I love this place. SO SO SO much. The toys are ridiculously good. I love to spoil my friend's 5 pound dog with the cutest little toys. And then I love to spoil Robert G.'s dog with the large indestructible ones. My favorite is the "tree trunk" that had mini-squeeky chipmunks in it. That one was for Lucia, the 5-pound pup. Dagwood (the big dog) loves the rubber toys that take him at least a week to destroy. Also, the variety of home-made cookies and treats are great. Lucia loves pig ears even though they are larger than her head! Dagwood loves the unmentionable parts of the bull. And I just love everything! read more

i don't think one could love this place any more.. i would seriously just move in if i could. you've obviously got to love spoiling your puppy to shop here, but i live in california and every time I'm in boston, i bring home two huge boxes of their chef selection cookies (much to the delight of my golden retriever) and an extra tube or two for friends with dogs. they make awesome gifts. it is a totally adorable, located in south end, total neighborhood type place, but i walk from back bay and it's doable. the decor is fun, not overdone or cheezy, perfect treat heaven for dogs with different treats/pizzle sticks/dried meat treats in those glass candy jars. they also carry great hard to find specialty toys and good selection of beds. but i just go there for the treats. my pup is allergic to wheat, so these are perfect, yummy baked treats. ok... a little on the expensive side, but great single bites, cute shapes, some even have the polkadog head on it, they are crunchy and there are tons of flavors: pizza, liver... the tube packages are designed with b/w photos of dogs who are store regulars. this place gives off the feel of those organic hip cafes you find in bay area, except, dammit, we don't have one here yet. read more

I really love this place! The thing I like the most is that most of the treats aren't like those other dog bakeries that look like they are more for the people than for the dogs. They have the nitty gritty stuff that dogs love; fish skin and some stinky treats. And there are tons of them too! I was so overwhelmed by everything they have and had no idea what to get for my pup since she wasn't with me. I asked for help and they were neither incredibly helpful nor unhelpful... probably more helpful than not. It's just that I was overwhelmed I think. So I ended up buying a little of a bunch of things (including a pupcake! so cute!) and it was cheap. Plus my dog loved all of it! This place is great! read more

Cute little place for spoiled dogs. I usually walk here with Mozart (yorkie) after a fun day at Peter's Dog Park. He loves it! The top floor has all the yummy doggie treats and then downstairs has designer leashes, toys, beds, and all kinds of things! read more

In my dog's opinion, there is nothing better than a Polka Dog Bakery all natural cupcake! My dog has a wheat allergy so I am extremely careful about giving her any kind of grains. Beautiful decor & very spacious inside. The store was warm/welcoming. There are sooo many rawhide bones to choose from, it was overwhelming! They had sizes for small dogs/puppies and several very large bones that one could easily imagine a Great Dane or Rottweiler chewing. The range is $1-$30 for bones. They had various brands for kibble like Timberwolf or Orijen & had small baskets filled with samples to try for free. They also supplied dehydrated food for BARF/RAW diet feeders.They sell colorful collars/leash, bowls, treats, some supplements, & water bottles for dogs. Staff was friendly & helpful. I have to agree with JR M. The selection of treats are amazing and that is why I am giving them 3 stars. But the prices are rediculous!!! I am telling you...you can find the same accessories for your dog online...or at another pet store for half the price..if not less. Just becuase you are located in the "South End" doesnt mean you can charge the prices you do...absolutely rediculous if you ask me. For those of you shopping here on the regular you should shop somewhere else cheaper then donate some of that money you were going to spend here to the MSPCA or Pine Street Inn wich is right around the corner. read more

Polka Dog bakery is my dog's all time favorite! When we are even remotely walking in the direction of the shop my dog starts running towards the door in hopes of getting a special treat. Everything in the shop is fresh and all-natural and according to the pooch, delicious. I'm very consentious about what I feed my pets (all-natural, organic, etc.) so Polka Dog is right up our alley. I have been going here for years and love it. They have introduced me to so many good healthy products for my dog that I use on a daily basis. The staff is always helpful and friendly. There was one time that I had ordered a cake for my dog's birthday as I do each year from them and they gave me the wrong one with another dog's name on it. The owner delivered me a new cake to my house in Burlington AND gave a basket full of goodies free of charge. This is the kind of service you can expect from Polka Dog. This is why I keep going back and make the drive in now that I have moved to the suburbs. The reason I have only given four stars instead of five is because I recently called to order a cake for my dog's 5th birthday and they said they now have them in the fridge and you can pick the one you like. I was really disappointed that they have now started to order cakes from a distribution company instead of making them themselves and allowing the customer to choose the flavor, shape, colors and adding their name. Just not as personal on that front anymore and I am sad that policy has changed. read more

Rob and Deb have always treated my and my poops like family. the first time I came in, eight years ago, I had just adopted two little toy poodles. I will always remember saying to Rob "my little Ellie won't eat" and Rob gave me half a dozen dog food samples and lots of good advice for a new doggie mommy. I also love how they give to the community, holding fundraisers for the Animal Rescue League and Peter's Park, and really truly wanting to help animals. The offer great products and yummy treats. It is impossible to walk in this place without smiling. Everyone brings their pups everywhere in the South End... but the pups LOVE to come to Polka Dog Bakery. I mean, you can see how excited they are when they know you're buying something FOR THEM here. Some weekends I've come in and seen them doing make your own treats where kids can frost the dog cookies with a special glaze and take them home for their furry friends. Whenever my pups get to spend the day with me, we always make a stop here! Last weekend I picked up a present for the two guys and they were already smelling it from the kitchen table! I finally put it on the ground only to have them unwrap it and wiggle their little tails like it was the best day ever. And honestly, the all natural stuff really goes a long way. One of our dogs doesn't eat hard treats normally -- I'm guessing they don't actually taste that great and are probably filled with junk. I bought a box of "meat cookies" from here last weekend, and he was begging for more ALL weekend! So cute! It seriously is a dog's dream here! read more

I would hate to calculate the percentage of our income that has been spent at Polka Dog. It is heaven for spoiled dogs! They have the best selection of bones (ostrich femurs!) and other assorted treats (trachea, anyone?) in Boston. They also have a great selection of premium foods, fashion-forward collars and leahes, and a basement full of toys and other such goodies. The staff is very helpful and friendly. My dogs give it five stars, but I give it four for the toll it takes on the wallet! read more

Great selection at this dog store as we feed our dog Stella and Chewy and Fromms. The prices are a tad higher than Chewy but they offer a great rewards program that gives you discounts. Staff is helpful. Sometimes if you call ahead they put the food aside for you for pick up. However, I'm giving three stars because I felt that the staff was a little too helpful standing by me each turn I made(which is very noticeable and slightly awkward considering the size of the store) and i'm not a fan of the treats being out and uncovered as well as the treats in the jars on the counter not containing nutritional information as our doodle has allergies. Upon inquiring on an item, it was disclosed that the item we were interested in had soy. Furthermore, i'm not sure why most of their locations don't put more effort in making pricing of items more available, so we're not asking for every item. Still a great shop for occasional supply needs, but its not our preferred. read more

I have been going to the Southend location for three years and have yet to have a single bad experience. I love Polka Dog, not only for their great bakery treats, but they have so many cute toys, collars, etc. But back to the treats! I have never actually bought Sadie any of the cookies or cakes or anything else like that, but the rawhidish item selection is insane! She loves the cow knuckles (I've found a lot of dogs love them actually) which occupy her FOREVER, as well as a lot of the other strange dried and cured animal parts they have :) If you have a strong chewer at home, their treats are a must. Sadie can tear through most things in under 5 minutes, the cow knuckle took her days, and the first time we bought her one of the filled bones, it took her months. They also sell some all natural dry and canned food. It's not a very large place, so if you have a big dog I wouldn't recommend bringing them with you, but for unbeatable treats your best friend will beg you to bring home, they're #1. read more

I am (well, i should say my dog is,) a big fan of Polka Dog. They have tons of chews and many of them are just the right size for my very small dog. Sure, they are stinky, but they keep her occupied and happy for hours so thats the important part. I was also able to find a few toys perfect for her too (it is hard to find toys small enough). While on the high end, the prices aren't as marked up as i've found elsewhere. Plus the staff is always very friendly. Either way Polka Dog is the place to get a la carte chews for dogs of every size. read more

Lulu loves her new polka dot harness from Polka Dog! We stopped in here last night after an hour of play at the park, and I decided it was time to get my curious, easily distracted, and sniffy corgi a harness so we could stop yanking her neck all over the South End. The saleswoman came out and helped fit Lulu into a couple different harnesses until we found the perfect fit. Lulu modeled the harnesses for us by scurrying off behind the counter and into their back room, where another saleswoman had to bring her back to me. With all the hubbub Lu was causing and all the squirming and wiggling she was doing while we tried to get her in and out of the harnesses, neither of the saleswomen seemed annoyed. We will definitely include a regular stop at Polka Dog on our way home from the park from now on. Lulu was eyeing those treats like a madwoman and there are enough at this shop to keep her happy for years to come. read more

After a bumpy day, as my Pittie baby has an ear ache, we stopped by on our way home for a good boy treat and I'm so happy we did! Great service, lovely little corner shop and all the gross smelling chewey things my Bo loves! I was impressed with the prices, even got my regular food for half the price I usually pay. I live in California and went to my local Global pet food market in Carson. I saw a grey stick looking treat at register... WOW! The cod skins are FANTASTIC!! My dog inhales them... GUESS WHAT??? My SUPER picky cat loves them too! The BEST part though is knowing that I am feeding them both a quality and really good for them treat!! BIG thanks to you Pokadog!!! Love, love, love this pet boutique and bakery. They offer the best dog treats I have come across--everything is fresh, free of artificial ingredients, and they even offer venison (for those of you with dogs with highly sensitive stomachs and allergies). They also have great coats, harnesses and collars, as well some nice toys. A little pricier than what you'd pay at your standard retail chain pet store of course, but very well worth it. read more

Our dog loves the cod skins! We used to get a lot of charming pet toys from this store but their selection has gone down a bit (maybe we've just gotten everything). We also got his harness here and it's extremely durable! Only con is that we have a polka card that we use quite often but there are never any rewards. read more
