Think a couple of velvet plush chairs and plenty of memorabilia). Affordable grub that is the essence of Soul Food. I've heard of this place on Facebook and my people on the east side tell me about this place, so I figured I'd give it a chance. To be fair, I ate four separate dinners across four different times to check for consistency, in both food quality and customer service. So I'll list the good points: 1. The portions on some of the dinners are good. (The wings dinner, the rib dinner, the whole catfish dinner were slightly under whelming portion wise). The Catfish filet dinner was a good size as well as 3 piece fried chicken dinner and the jambalaya dinner were nice portion size. 2. The cookies are the best dessert they have hands down. If they have snickerdoodle or chocolate chip cookies, get those. 3. They have a huge variety of things to chose from. Now for the bad points: 1. Don't get anything fried. It's not seasoned, it sits under heat lamps (they fry a lot up in advance) and what you get is often cold and greasy by the time u get home. I've had the fried lobster tail (tough and cold), the fried chicken (greasy, no seasoning), the catfish filets ( not seasoned, but ok), and the whole catfish ( no meat, mostly skin and all grease). Fry up smaller batches at a time, change the grease when needed (DAILY) and fry seafood to order as it dries out faster than pork or chicken. 2. The cakes would be better if they were kept refrigerated and not on top of the heat lamps. Every cake slice I had, while ok, were dry due to being on the top of the heat lamps. 3. If a customer asks for a sauce or gravy on the side it should not be rocket science or a political drama. You have cups you serve kool aid in, put the gravy in that. That's common sense. Acting like you have no clue to get a cup and down and put gravy in it is ridiculous, and poor customer service. I wish them the best, but for the prices of the meals ($17 to $22 each), you're better off spending the money elsewhere. read more

Great food. Unfortunately, we ate before the camera because we were so hungry. We had honey hot wings, Mac & cheese, Cabbage, mashed potatoes, and oxtails. The portions were plentiful and the service was impeccable. It's really just a make shift steam table, so everything is ready and there's no need to call ahead. They have two tables outside so there's really no seating. But with food like this, you NEED to be in a comfy spot because a nap is certain to follow! read more

I placed an order from this place at 3:49 pm on March 1, 2026 after reading the rave reviews. The order was supposed to be ready and delivered by 4:45-5:00 pm; which I thought was insanely long, but ok. The first Grub Hub driver arrived at Polk's House around 4:40pm and waited. 4:49 pm I received a text stating my order is delayed and will be delivered between 5:10-5:25 pm. The next driver arrived there at 5:00 pm and waited. The last text I received at 5:45 pm stated, "The restaurant has cancelled this order because they're out of a menu item." Really? It took two hours to inform me that the $24 I spent is now gone, but will be refunded in 3-5 business days? Why couldn't someone at Polk's House have a little courtesy to call me and at least offer something else from the menu? Two hours of waiting for nothing is totally unacceptable. It's now 6:32 pm and I haven't a clue what food to substitute for this debacle because I planned on eating out today. I guess the only customers that matter are the ones who visit in person. I truly enjoyed this little gem. My cousin and I had a taste for a little soul food after a visit to OKC for a fashion show and Polks House didn't disappoint. I got the oxtail dinner with collard greens, macaroni and cheese & cabbage. This really a hole in the wall kinda place. No fine dining and only enough room for 2 people to enter at time. With that being said the food is phenomenal!!! I wasn't sure about this place. I arrived at 5pm and was told they didn't open until 6pm on Saturday. I came back at 6:55pm and the door was still locked. He said we open in 5 min. So, I decided to wait. I'm so glad I did. As soon as I entered I recognized the place was very small and no sitting inside. Even in spite of Covid I can only imagine 2 people at a time in the space. The server greeted me promptly and was very friendly! She described menu and prices and was very patient in the process. The food looked and smelled delicious and the strawberry swirl cake my new favorite. I couldn't wait to eat so I ate in car. I was a happy camper. This place is a hidden gem located on the east side right on the corner of lottie and 23rd. I'm a fan!! I will be back!!! read more

I ordered a shrimp burger and it was beyond delicious. It was a perfectly cooked burger patty covered with shrimp and melted cheese. A big serving of steaming hot fries and all the fixings for the burger. It doesn't matter what you get from Polk House, it will be excellent home style delicious food. I never in a million years would have expected a good restaurant to pop up on the corner of N.E. 23rd and Lottie -- seriously. (The building sat vacant for many years, after all, and I had become accustomed to seeing little business activity at all in that part of northeast Oklahoma City.) I found Polks by simply driving by on my way to Florence's, a much loved Oklahoma City institution in which I grew up eating. I thought to myself, "Sure. Why the hell not? I've been to Florence's a jillion times. Give this place a chance." I ordered one of my favorite comfort foods -- chicken and waffles. Hubby had the salmon croquettes -- a longtime favorite of his. My chicken was hot and flavorful, and its crust was nothing shy of perfection. My waffle was fresh and tender, not cold and chewy. (No one much likes cold waffles -- be honest with yourself, Lulu.) We shared a couple of orders of sweet potatoes and collard greens, and found that both were prepared perfectly. (In fact, both almost made me cry a little, as I associate both dishes with my late grandmother, a fine old Southern cook who knew how to make her family VERY pleased at the table.) We were warmly greeted when we arrived, and the service we received throughout our meal was friendly and prompt. (You can tell this place is locally owned, and that its owners are prepared to succeed.) Further, I tend to judge a restaurant by its kitchen, and the kitchen at Polks (from what I could see that day) was clean and tidy -- always a welcome sight in a world filled with nasty-assed kitchens and scads of Lord only knows what kinds of pathogens. The restroom was also immaculate -- another factor that I never fail to consider when judging an eatery. Parking here is limited, yes, so come prepared for that fact (especially at lunchtime). It does my heart SO much good to see vibrant young businesses thriving in a part of northeast Oklahoma City long associated with urban blight. And yes, it does my fat Okie ass good, as well, to find a clean, welcoming restaurant that serves up the kind of home cooked comfort that makes me so happy. Ok I'm a real foodie my sister recommended this place. I ordered the meatloaf with two sides which was dressing and mashed potatoes and gravy and I ordered the chicken and dumplings with two sides as well. Then I ordered a pork chop by itself with no sides. Everything was just okay it wasn't great. The dressing was really good homemade you could tell it was homemade. The potatoes were a little bit too creamy not as thick as what they should be. The gravy was okay. And I also ordered a drink which was their Kool-Aid and it was gross I had to pour it out and get me something else to drink. I also got dessert which was a pecan pie a chocolate cake and a lemon butter cake all of it was gross except the pecan pie and it was just okay. So my mail totaled up to almost $33. And it was very expensive but they do give you big portions. The pork chop was not season well but really really thick and big only took one bite of it because it was so big enormous. I wouldn't visit this place again I just went here out of curiosity from what my sister had. I'm not a fan. Also they were supposed to open at 1 on Sunday they didn't open until 2 and I sit outside waiting for about 15 minutes for them to open the door so they don't even open based off of their display hours. It's very small it's really a to go type of place you can't really sit down and eat anywhere unless you eat outside.
