Yammed Fried Chicken with 3 Vegetables
    Christy S.

On our quest to find new and interesting local restaurants, we found a great experience at Florence's! While the restaurant has been open for nearly 70 years, it was new to us. We were greeted promptly and received friendly service throughout our visit. The menu is filled with comfort foods like your grandma used to make. I ordered the Wednesday special, which was honey meatloaf. I didn't really taste honey, but it was full of peppers and onions like any good meatloaf should be. More impressive to me were the side dishes. Do not come here without ordering the candied yams. They were the best thing on the menu! The mashed potatoes and gravy were also really good. Just to end things on a sweet note, I ordered the peach cobbler. It was only $3 and was the perfect size after a filling meal. If you haven't tried Florence's yet, what are you waiting on?

Finally got to try this restaurant & we will definitely come back. The food was delicious! Our waitress was friendly & service was great. They have an outdoor patio & an inside dining area. My brother in law said it's the best fried chicken he has had, so I need to try it next time.

The chicken is good but the portions are small

Chicken tasted good but the portion was small and did not have much meat on the bone. Maybe it was because they were running out and we ordered 45 minutes before closing. Also tried the mashed potatoes and they tasted like they were made from scratch and were pretty good.

We never stop looking for special and wonderful places to share an extraordinary meal with our loved ones. Here they welcomed us and served us with big smiles, and a kindness that we would only find at Amona / Grandma's house. Here we will enjoy dishes full of stories, a lot of care and good love, simply delicious, culinary magic. Before finishing, we decided to have a little more of that love, of course, and we ordered additional dishes to take home.

Food was delicious. Portions were very small. Music was weird. Service was fast, but not friendly (Candace). I would eat here more often if the portions were bigger, and the prices a lot lower!!! I won't be back.

An Eastside staple for soul food. I can appreciate the upgrades & remodel of Florence's. I hadn't eaten here in years. I started with a watermelon lemonade & had 3 refills. It had the right amount of sweetness & tart. I chose the pot roast with, mac n cheese, collard greens and Boley beans. You get 3 sides! Pot roast smacked! Normally I prefer the savory pinto beans & savory collard greens. Both my sides had sweet undertones. Hot sauce balanced the sweetness. Just a heads up depending on your taste bud preference. My friends fried chicken was seasoned and cooked to perfection. The yams were sweet to the point it was my dessert. Certain days of the week feature different specials. Will go back for the fried fish. I Left a $10 lunch tip & an additional $15 tip hit my debit card! was my biggest complaint. I don't know why our server thought we were leaving a $25 tip on two lunch plates. Florence's did refund the extra debit card tip charge the next day after calling & informing & going back the next day.

Stopped in for a quick lunch. The restaurant is clean with modern decor. Our waitress was amazing. The place was packed, and the food was tasty. The chicken was a little dry for my liking, but still good. The gravy had lots of flavor and the yams were wonderful.

    Nice Little Salad

I met a group of 7 coworkers here for lunch. I had the Friday special chicken and dumplings with green beans and a salad. Some of us called our order in and some placed it there. My order was called in and was served five minutes after I arrived. It truly felt like I had sat down at my grandmothers kitchen table for lunch. The green beans were fresh not frozen, the salad is clearly made fresh and is not a bagged mixed (loved the fresh mushrooms!) and my chicken and dumplings was made with whole chicken. Unfortunately there was a wait for those of our party that ordered at the restaurant but everyone loved their food overall. If you go during lunch order your food in advance. I'll definitely be back for the fried catfish and koolaide!

    Hot honey chicken special

Yum I went in thinking I was going to chicken and dumplings. Unfortunately, that's only served on Friday as a special. I was about to leave and Xavier said gently, "no don't leave. You won't be disappointed by the hot honey chicken special." Xavier was super friendly and helpful. He's the reason I stayed and ordered as he suggested. I chose a few sides . Shortly after ordering Xavier came along with my order in hand, Xavier suggested I check the order. I opened up the box and all the sudden I get excited and cannot wait to sit down and gobble up this deliciousness. Can't wait to try the chicken and dumplings because this was so amazing! The portions were enough to share with another person. Looking forward to my next visit to Florences. Shout out to Xavier for keeping me reined in and ordering the Monday special. Super nice guy and definitely part of the reason I would come back. Of course the food is the major reason!

Chicken and Dumplings with Boley Beans, Candied Yams and Spinach

Florence's is one of those places I've heard about and driven by for years. This was one of those days when I just couldn't decide what I wanted. When I saw their Friday special was chicken and dumplings, I knew it was time to give it a try. The decor is more updated that I would have expected; more functional that fancy. Everything is extremely clean. I got there just before the lunch rush and found a table just inside the door. The place never got packed, but there seemed to be several getting takeout. The waitress was nice despite being really busy as it seemed she was the only person not in the kitchen. The chicken and dumplings came with three sides. I picked the candies yams, seasoned spinach and - at the waitress' recommendation - the Boley beans. It took almost no time for the food to come, along with two cornbread muffins. Chicken and Dumplings - 4 You need to know that all chicken and dumplings are compared to my Grandma Lambert's. These were awfully good, and loaded with chicken. The dumplings weren't a bit doughy. The dish needed a fair amount of salt, and I had use my napkin to spit out several pieces of gristle. Looking at it from a positive note, that proves it's "down home" cooking. They were some of the best I've had in a restaurant. Sides - 5 Though the spinach didn't taste particularly seasoned, it had such a fresh taste. The candied yams were a bright orange, soft, buttery and sweet. You won't find many any better. My favorite were the Boley beans. They are sweetened pinto beans and I could have eaten a bowl full. The sweet cornbread muffins were light and tasty. And you can't have a meal like this without sweet tea. It was sweet without being overly sweet. It was a milky orange and visually looked like a New England India Pale Ale. I do wonder if they might add a bit of juice, as you could detect a hint of citrus. It was very good.

The food is delicious and the stuff was super friendly and attentive. This is a great spot to take a date. Pro Tip: 1. Order the sweet potatoes 2. Order the greens 3. Try to call your order in prior to visiting for take-out 4. Make some extra time if your limited to an hour lunch. They make everything fresh.

All secondary roads are still snow packed so at 11:30 there was only one other couple in the restrauant. The Press is in an old (1920's ?) repourposed building. The interior is comfortable, charming and a bit whimsical. We started with an order of cheese sticks. They were very good and large. I liked that the cheese sticks did not have Italian seasoning in the breading. Jan ordered the chicken fried ribeye with mashed potatoes, cream gravey and green beans. Jan loved it. I took a bite of the chicken fried steak and it was excellent. The green beans were very good. They were loaded with garlic, which I love, but if you're not a garlic fan, I would suggest another side. I ordered the grilled chicked sandwich with waffle fries. The sandwich was good and the waffle fries were excellent. The portions are large and the food quality excellent. The prices reasonable. The menu has variety. That price isn't even including a tip. This place has always been pricier than the rest, but a couple years ago they used to give your to-go coffees in a mason jar so it was justified. Now the mason jars are gone, the cups are barely bigger than a claw clip, and somehow they're charging even more. This was my fourth time here and I wanted to give them another shot, but it'll have to be my last try. You can get much better coffee at a much more fair price at other places in the city. The only strength Elemental has is that it has a bit longer food menu than other cafes, but if you're paying more than $20 for a tiny coffee and a mediocre snack then you are wasting your time and money. Also, I don't expect you to yell a welcome or fall on your knees to greet me when I walk in, but the service here is miserable and always has been. The barista asked me how I was doing, to which I said good thank you, then just stared at me for a good few seconds. I guess that means go ahead and order here. A simple "what would you like today" would suffice. Most places you get used to waiting a second while the barista prepares the system, so if that's not the case, just say something. Then they hand you your to-go drink without a lid, because the $9.50 you spent doesn't cover that level of labor and you need to do it yourself. I love to support our local coffee shops here in OKC, but you'll never find me recommending Elemental. Which is a shame, because the mason jars in my cabinet at home are a good reminder of when they served unique and fairly priced coffee. I am so thoroughly disappointed that I made an account just to say this. At least the espresso is okay.
