8pc fried 8 Pieces - Chicken Only with bbq sauce and ranch sauce
    Ahmad W.

I tried this place for the first time like a week ago. I was busy and didn't have time to post. I got a 8pc chicken only they charge like Popeyes prices. The chicken tastes alright. I got the fried chicken just to see what it is all about. I probably should have got the grilled chicken.

I just received an Uber Eats order, paid extra for white meat and received a thigh and drumstick. Dark meat it too greasy for me and I haven't eaten any since I was a child, this the food is going in the trash. I can only eat the rice and the roll that supposedly came with the meal wasn't there either. I try to patronize places but it is sad that they can't get basic orders right. It is not like I ordered a bunch of food. Waste of money and time. Now I have to go cook dinner after waiting an hour for the delivery. Thanks for absolutely nothing.

I've never noticed this restaurant in my life. But when Pollo Campero was pointed out to me, I was pretty excited to try a new kind of fried chicken. We got here at 12:20ish and the place was PACKED. There was no where to sit after we ordered, so we prayed that we would get a seat after our food came. There was no such thing. However, a cashier noticed that we had no seat and made sure we had a seat right away. Even with her broken English, we could communicate in our universal language of food. She wiped down our table and helped us set our food out. We ordered a four piece fried chicken combo to share, which came with two sides. I asked for some rice and mashed potatoes, and I also couldn't help from ordering the flan for dessert. The fried chicken is delicious - the breading is thin and crispy. The rice was a-ok. Mashed potatoes was nothing special. Bread roll was meh. Flan was not great, I wish I had gotten the quatro leches cake. Overall, Pollo Campero is definitely an interesting new "fast" food option on Buford Highway. The chicken alone is a solid 4 star, while the sides and everything else were a solid 3, at most. Definitely come here just for the chicken!!

It's okay. When we were driving down Buford Highway, after coming from Church's Chicken, we saw Pollo Campero (which looks like a former Church's chicken fyi) and made a plan to come back. One week later we paid these guys a visit, hyped for some great Latin chicken! As we visited on a Sunday after church, this place was packed. Tables were full and to go orders were also coming and going for the time we were there. We both decided to get chicken meals, have them split between fried and grilled ($6.99 each), and yuca fries/plantains ( both $1). The chicken was split with one fried breast, one wing and one chicken leg (both grilled). The fried chicken piece was actually fried very well. The breast was juicy, fried portion was crispy and not at all greasy. The grilled, which was a lemon herb blend, was somewhat underwhelming. You could get one side and one drink with your meal. I chose plantains, and while the plantains weren't bad, they weren't anywhere close to the best I've had. The yuca fries were also okay. Pollo Campero was JAMMMMM packed. If you aren't cool with eating with other tables and diners being very close to your table, maybe get your order to go. Parking at Pollo Campero is pretty easy with this private lot and there are a couple of entrances/exits onto Buford hwy. Customer service was friendly and their explaination of menu items was helpful even though they tried to upsell many of their additional sides and drinks. So yea, the fried chicken was good, not greasy, very crispy and I'd happily go back for that. The sides and the grilled chicken couldn't keep up with the goodness of the fried though. My next visit back will be for the fried.

Pollo Campero is actually pretty good. El Pollo Loco and Pollo Tropical don't have anything on this place. Pollo Campero is the world's largest Latin chicken chain. It's a mix between fast food and fast casual. The ordering process, delivery time, and prices are like a fast food joint (there's even a drive-thru), but the food is personally served to your table on a tray with real plates and silverware like a fast casual restaurant. I had dinner here last night with a group of 12 for our latest Buford Highway UYE (http://www.yelp.com/events/atlanta-buford-highway-uye-pollo-campero). We showed up unannounced. The manager and staff were friendly and accommodating to our large group. I was pleasantly surprised with the entire experience including the service, the quality of the food and establishment, and the speed at which the food hit our table. After 28 BuHi UYEs with large groups, Pollo Campero easily wins for fastest food delivery time. In some cases, people received their orders almost instantly. "Pollo Campero" roughly translates as country chicken. They serve all sorts of chicken: fried chicken, grilled chicken, chicken sandwiches, chicken strips, chicken bowls, and chicken burritos. You can choose which pieces of chicken you get (e.g. leg, thigh, breast, wing). Most of the aforementioned items cost only $6.00-7.00 each and include a side and fountain drink. Note on the fountain drinks: In addition to the self-serve fountain machine with sodas, you can choose any of the fresh Latin drinks (agua frescas) behind the counter. They include tamarindo (tamarind drink), horchata (sweet cinnamon rice drink), and jamaica (purple hibiscus tea). I recommend these over the self-serve fountain drinks. Family meals are available. You can order up to a 16-piece chicken meal with 4 sides for $32.99 (serves 7-8 people). You can also order a whole grilled chicken for $11.99 (or with two sides for $17.99). Sides include Latin dishes such as seasoned pinto beans ("Campero Beans"), black beans and white rice, seasoned rice, yuca fries, and sweet plantains, and American sides like mashed potatoes and gravy, coleslaw, and fries. If you're looking to eat healthy, salads are also offered. A self-serve salsa bar is located next to the ordering counter. Last night, it contained five different types of salsas: jalapeno, pico de gallo, cilantro/onion, roasted tomatillo, and chipotle. I ordered the #4 1/4 Grilled Meal ($5.99). It came with a grilled chicken leg and thigh (other option is breast and wing), a side (I chose Campero Beans), and a drink (I chose horchata). The meal was delicious. Everyone in our group who ordered the grilled chicken was surprised at how tasty it was. The chicken was well seasoned and marinated. It was tender and juicy -- perfectly moist. It's almost like eating rotisserie chicken. The dish also came with a fresh slice of lime and a choice of a dinner roll or two corn tortillas. Lime was not necessary for the chicken, though. The skin already had an appetizing tanginess to it. I went with corn tortillas in lieu of bread and the tortillas were mostly unmemorable, except for the fact that each set of two was individually wrapped and heated in plastic bags. The Campero Beans were quite flavorful. Campero Beans are slow-cooked pinto beans simmered with smoked bacon, chorizo, onions, garlic, tomatoes, jalapenos, and a special seasoning. They were certainly hearty and satisfying and I recommend them. Drink-wise, I tried two of the agua frescas listed above: the horchata and jamaica. Both drinks seemed more processed than what an independent, perhaps more "authentic" Latin joint would serve, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. The horchata was super sweet and consistently silky smooth throughout. Often times, horchata can have a powdery texture because the drink isn't mixed all the way through. Not here. The jamaica was fruity and also very sweet. I liked both drinks. The store is bright and clean and decorated in bold burnt orange colors. You wouldn't think it from passing this place on the road, but Pollo Campero is probably one of the nicest, if not the nicest, fast food joints on Buford Highway. It's probably 10 times cleaner than the Taco Bell next door. Service was excellent. Apart from receiving our orders super quick, staff periodically checked on our tables, asked if we needed anything, and took away finished plates. At the end of our meal, the manager checked on us one last time and thanked us for coming. Overall, Pollo Campero gets a solid 4 stars out of me. I had a good experience and the food was good value for the money. I'll be back.

We were there on Saturday with small children and never even stayed long enough to order food because the odor was that bad. I used to visit this restaurant years ago and had already noticed signs of decline, but this latest visit made it clear that the conditions have become significantly worse. The bathrooms were dirty, with broken fixtures and obvious signs of neglect. The entire place looks outdated and poorly maintained, as if renovations and upkeep have been ignored for years. The strong smell of mold throughout the building was alarming and made us question the overall condition of the property. It is difficult to understand how a restaurant can operate while allowing customers to be exposed to such an unpleasant and toxic environment. It's disappointing because we love colombian food. Sadly, it now appears that providing clean, safe, and quality facilities is not a priority. We left immediately and chose not to eat there. I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone, especially families with young children.

Whoops! This is an overdue review from December…read more Xela Pan Cafe is a Guatemalan restaurant/bakery/convenience store on Buford Hwy in Doraville. Just a quick warning that, depending on which employee helps customers, there may be a slight issue with their understanding of English. They absolutely speak and understand Spanish. Xela Pan Cafe is in a small strip mall that is next to the strip mall where Kung Fu Tea is located. There is limited parking in front of the storefronts. This small business is made up of a restaurant, a bakery and a convenience store all run by the same employees. The convenience store sells a lot of seemingly random items, just about all in glass display cases. I noticed a lot of things to help with digestion and upset stomach, and hoped that this wasn't an indication of their food (Thankfully, it turned out that it wasn't!). The bakery items were in a separate area of display cases, but customers are free to self-serve themselves by using a tray to place whatever they choose, using either tongs or disposable gloves (I can't remember which they use) to take the items out of the cases. R and I came here for breakfast on a Sunday morning just before 9 am. There is an order counter, but that's for customers who are ordering items to go. Once the employees found out that we were going to eat breakfast inside the restaurant, we were told to seat ourselves and an employee would be by soon with menus. The restaurant area contains mostly booths, with some tables and chairs in an area between the order counter, convenience store and bakery areas. A very helpful and knowledgeable server came by our table, bringing a couple of glasses of water and menus. For a small restaurant, there were many items on the menu. We both ordered the scrambled eggs, rice, black beans, plantains and cheese. We didn't wait very long, in spite of other customers lined up at the counter to order takeout meals. The scrambled eggs with tomato and onion in them tasted a little bland, but I dressed it up with some bottled red hot sauce that was on the table. The plain tasting white rice, which had peas, carrots and corn in it, was pressed into a heart shape. The black beans in its watery sauce were very good. The plantains were cooked to a perfect firmness, and had a perfectly matching natural sweetness to them. The small block of slightly salty cheese also had a nice firmness to it. The price for each meal was very reasonable. Overall, this was a good dining experience.

We didn't really need it since the restaurant was pretty empty, but we were a bigger group and didn't want to risk it. The hostess didn't confirm our reservation until about 10 mins prior, which was quite concerning, but everything worked out at the end anyway. Our server was wonderful! It was our first time here and he explained their background and what his favorites were on the menu. We for sure wanted to try the paella, so went ahead and ordered that first, with the carretillero ceviche, mixed empanadas (chicken and beef) and patatas bravos to start. The ceviche was delicious and fresh. Loved the fried calamari and all the toppings it was served with. The empanadas were also delicious and was served with a very spicy sauce! The patatas braves had a nice, smoky flavor. Now for entree, I ordered the veggie chaufa. Our server may have been a little biased as he preferred the Peruvian side of the menu, more so than the Cuban side. My dish was easily good for 2-3 people. It had tons of veggies and scrambled egg, plus served with a side of fried plantains. Our group ordered a bunch of other dishes and tried some of them. The churrasco steak was a little chewy but loved the chimichurri it was served with. The parrillada de mariscos was so good too, and my personal fave was the grilled octopus! Personally, I would opt for this instead of the valenciana paella. You essentially get the same types of seafood. I love that we got to dine at this hidden gem! We truly enjoyed our experience and will be back for sure.

Venue and Atmosphere The venue is decently sized with both booths and regular tables. There are beautiful paintings hung all over, and the decorations that make you feel like you've stepped into a little part of Mexico. Atmosphere is super casual and comfortable. Food and drinks Now the menu here is massive. Take your time and prepare to be overwhelmed, because everything sounds amazing. Here's a breakdown of what we got each time. 1st visit - El Rey Del Taco Parrillada It's meant to be shared with two people, and comes with a pound of beef ribs, your choice of chicken or al pastor meat, six shrimp wrapped in bacon, with melted cheese and chorizo, plus tortillas and charro beans. It was just as delicious as it sounds. 2nd visit - Tacos The pastor con queso and the shrimp al pastor with cheese, onions, and al pastor sauce. You're welcome. 3rd visit - Fajitas Fajitas Texanas, with steak chicken and shrimp. There are 7 different combinations of sides that you can get. We got white rice, salad, and charro beans. This can also be shared, which my wife and I did. Speaking of the charro beans, they have the best beans I have ever had. For drinks I got the supreme regular mango margarita. My wife got strawberry. Both great. Service Food came out fast, but other than that the service was a little slow. Our waitress was nice, but it did seem that she forgot about us for a little while. The food was so good that I forgave it, plus at the end of the day I got everything I needed. Verdict If you're looking for amazing food and drinks, this is absolutely the place to get it. It just might end up being your favorite too! Until next time!

On the plus side, our server was lovely and took the time to ask us about our familiarity with Peruvian food and outline some standouts on the menu. I didn't mention this to him but the menu online doesn't seem to match what they had in person... for example I remember seeing a Colombian empanada option (which drew me there in the first place) on the website. Cocktails and food came out really fast. We had the ceviche mixto, octopus, and chaufa for food and I had the mango jungle water to drink. The prices were pretty high for the portion size of the food. The ingredients tasted fresh (the fish of the day was mahi mahi) and the flavor was there. The octopus had nice char but wasn't as tender as I would have liked. I'm not a big eater so these three dishes were enough for the two of us and we opted to go to the Asian bakery next door for dessert instead of getting something here. Honestly I would recommend Tio Lucho's hands down for ceviche and Peruvian cuisine. It was fun to try something new and different at Madre Selva but I just don't think the food measures up. Tio Lucho's is much closer to the Peruvian food that I know from my time living in Miami. I can't speak to the authenticity beyond that. Madre Selva did seem like it would be a lot of fun for a large group and/or when the weather is tolerable. The ambiance is incredible. On a related note... I don't think I've been down to the Lindbergh MARTA station since college and I was totally floored to see all of the restaurants and developments in the area (Tongue and Groove is still a thing?!). The benefit of going to Madre Selva is that you can take a stroll and visit some of the other nearby businesses as well.
