This was an okay chicken place. The skin had a pretty good crisp to it but I felt like the seasoning was lacking and just a small tad salty compared to other fast food fried chicken places. The fries were just average but not "in and out" bad. And the dinner roll was just there. Maybe the tortilla would have been a better choice. I did get an extra thigh by accident which was nice. The service was pretty good. The manager came around to check on every table. The place seemed well put together and clean. Though seems kind of short staffed when it gets swamped. First visit to this franchise via drive thru. Ordered an assortment of 12 pieces of chicken. Order taker said if we wait 15 minutes a fresh batch was being cooked. Of course we waited. I got 3 pc fried chicken. 1 side which was Mexican rice, a corn tortillas or roll. First chicken love the box was well vented. But in the box the chicken looked kinda small and oily, but was cooked well and had a good taste. Just box was big and empty. Rice. Was not that great. No taste much like minute made with a few corn. Very busy on opening day, but there were plenty of open tables for dining in. You can also sit outside if you want. The staff were nice and love how they are all smiling despite of the crowd. I ordered the Campero Bowl and side of fried Yucca fries. The bowl over all was good. I think there was too much rice and very little lettuce. I could actually count how many there were in my bowl. The chicken was good and tender and seasoned well. But the rice to me was bland. I was given some type of sauce, but unsure if it was supposed to be for the bowl or for the fried yucca because it was the same type of sauce that was given. The yucca fries were good but they only give you seven pieces, wish it was at least ten, lol. I do like the dipping sauce that it came with. My friends ordered the grilled chicken and it tasted pretty good. This place uses real dishes and utensils if you dine and not plastic. I was impressed!!! I recommend this place and give it a try. Our first visit to Pollo Campero was disappointing. We ordered a 12 piece family meal, mixed pieces with half fried and half grilled. The sides were rice, beans, plantains, and six dinner rolls. We also ordered 2 empanadas, 5 flan for $7, and 2 large horchatas. They handed us a large, sealed bag with our order. We had to remind them that we had ordered the 2 large horchatas. We assumed everything else was in the bag. They shorted us 2 pieces of chicken, with only 10 fried pieces included. There were no grilled pieces. The chicken was cold as if it had been refrigerated before we got it. The 2 empanadas were not in the sealed bag. I guess I was supposed to have reminded them of the empanadas also, but we didn't realize they were missing until we got home. The flavor of the chicken was excellent! The rice was tasty. The beans were delicious. The flan was different than Mexican flan. We would order the flan again. The rolls were similar to what you might buy pre-packaged from a grocery store; not bad, but not extraordinary either. The horchata is different than Mexican horchata, but we would order it again also. The plantains were also delicious. Flavorful, but not too sweet. If you order for pickup, make sure you double check your order before leaving, including counting the chicken pieces in the box. We plan to order from Pollo Campero again, but next time we'll probably dine-in, so hopefully the chicken will be hot and we can make sure we receive everything we paid for. We attempted to try Pollo Campero a week ago, but they were so slammed that there wasn't room to park and the drive-thru line was backed up into Lowe's parking lot. We ended up eating at Olive Garden next door. Perhaps the errors are due to ramping up all new staff and the fact that they are constantly slammed. Pollo Campero is brand new to this area. They've only been opened three weeks; in fact I think today is day 21. (September 25, 2024) They're not like other restaurants, where they can pull experienced staff from across town to train the new crew until they're ramped up. Very disappointed we saw the place it looked very appealing and we even did a u-turn. We figured it would be like Pollo Loco. Would have been better to drive several hours to the nearest Pollo Loco instead. The chicken was extremely fatty and greasy and tasted like a very cheap seasoning and didn't even have the charred grill marks that you would expect from Pollo Asado. Tasted like maybe it was reheated in the microwaved fully cooked or maybe oven-baked chicken. The rice and beans tasted like they came from a can or a pouch. The tortilla smelled rancid so we didn't even try those. I asked the employee at the drive-thru if he can include some new Tangy sauce that they advertised and I guess he cannot read because he gave me Ranch. Wasted 30 bucks never coming back.
