This is one of many locations for this rapidly growing Guatemalan chicken chain, now based in Texas. My last time stopping at one of their locations was in Chinatown, where I tried a Spicy Chicken Sandwich, which was good, especially with a side of roasted plantains/maduros. It was comparable to other fast-food chicken places, such as Popeyes, in terms of combo meals, though I preferred the kick at Popeyes and the side at Pollo, so presumably, I would prefer this place overall if I went with a non-spicy chicken sandwich. Anyway, this Midtown East spot has been here for a while, and I was there a good while back for lunch. The cashier in front was friendly. Along with the aforementioned sandwich and a few other options, such as bowls and nuggets, I went with one of their classic Individual Chicken Meals, which is available fried or slow-roasted. For three pieces, including a side and either a roll or tortilla, it was $12.99, and I went with the slow-roasted version. I went with the plantains again as my side dish and tortillas. It took a bit to come out, presumably since there were plenty of delivery and takeout orders, but eventually I got my food. The meal came with one leg and one thigh, and you can pay an extra dollar to replace a piece with a chicken breast. The chicken was surprisingly moist, especially for a fast-food place, and had a mild spice profile with a hint of sourness among many other flavors. The sweet plantains were again solid, though I prefer a bit more crispiness, though this is usually a matter of style preferences, depending on which country the maduros are from. The tortillas were standard. Apparently, the original locations in Guatemala are better, but I still liked the food here. This is an above-average chicken chain in a rather prime location, competing with the nearby Chick-fil-A and a couple of bad halal spots, such as Holy Burger. read more

Well, for starters, the location is great. The staff was friendly too--big plus because they actually looked like they wanted to be there. Now, the food... it was okay. The chicken had a great crunch on the outside, but the dark meat was a little undercooked for me. I like my chicken cooked to perfection all the way through--I shouldn't have to negotiate with the inside of my chicken. It wasn't bad, but it's not something I'd sprint back to order again. The fries were decent, and the nuggets were a little too chewy for my liking. Overall, I'd give it a 7/10. Delicious-you need to try the food here. I love the juicy chicken, and it is flavorful. The place may look closed from the outside because the windows look like they are covered with white paper, BUT, THEY ARE OPEN, and there is great food here! Love the Mac 'n cheese, too! I'm over here pondering if I ever would have stopped in to a Pollo Compero had it not been for a Yelp event and I'm pretty sure that while I work near one, I may not ever have tried them out. I would have been at a loss because while it's fast food, I was sort of blown away by this fried two piece ... I got a few extras because why not try it all. Downloading the appp and placing an order also gets you $10 credit to come back, so you know I gave this a thorough trial. The crispiness of the fried chicken was fantastic and the chickens pretty good underneath, I was not disappointed although I didn't expect much, the Mac n cheese was standard, the flan while a little heavy n sweet was good, the horchata is thin, the Jamaican punch is a sugar bomb and not great but I'm imagining it's like a sorrel punch? I dnno, the yucca fries are cool to see, the rice n beans were just fine n dandy.... I told you I went back. I tried a ton. I was impressed by the flavor of the grilled chicken. A lot of the experience far exceeded my fast food expectations. The place is clean and the staff is kind. I even liked their ranch even though I never ever want or order ranch. I liked the creamy crunchy coleslaw a bunch but thought the tortillas stunk and the rolls almost as lame. Ordered the Two Piece Individual Meal for Yelp Elite - choice of grilled chicken, beans, tortilla, and extra cost for a regular drink. The requested utensils were missing in the bag, but the rest of the order was correct. The order was completed by the time I arrived and warm when I picked it up. The grilled chicken had crispy and flavorful skin, the corn tortillas were warm but fell apart easily, and the beans were pretty liquidy but also alright. There was one table for 1 at the bottom level where the cashier was, with stairs leading to upstairs seating. I swung by on a Saturday evening, and there was no line so I was able to pick up quickly. This branch actually has two floors with a spacious second floor dining area; Ordered at the counter on the first floor; menu is simple with several varieties of Chicken flavor; combo meals has both fried and grilled chicken as well. For the Pollo Campero - Midtown East Elite event, I was allowed to redeem 2 piece chicken with 1 side, bread, and a regular drink via their app. I chose grilled chicken, side of mac and cheese, a potato bun, and horchata. It took less than 15min for my order to be ready because it was already packaged when I came to pick it up. The chicken (drumstick and dark meat breast pieces) is nicely seasoned and citrus grilled, so you can taste a lemon flavor. The mac and cheese is a little on the salty side. The potato bun was soft and is always nice. I have never tried Horchata before, so it was interesting to try the blend of white rice, water, and cinnamon. I've had the fried and grilled chicken here a few times. The chicken is delicious. I like both the fried and grilled. The fried chicken breast is crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside. The thigh and wings are pretty good too. The pieces tend to be smaller, but I think that's normal chicken size. The breast is slightly bigger than the rest of the pieces. The chicken was very flavorful and juicy, however i felt like it was mostly bones and not much chicken. The yucca fries were absolutely delicious!! I ordered on their mobile app and it was a pretty easy ordering experience. Once I got to the restaurant, there were a lot of people waiting for their orders. In the app, it said that my order was ready but I still had to wait ~10 minutes before I got my food. That being said, I didn't mind the wait, especially since I knew that the store just opened. Everyone working was very friendly and helpful- I think they were just not expecting to be so popular in their first week. I ordered the grilled chicken with plantains and a roll, and I thought it was a perfect meal for lunch. At first, I thought the meal might be a little small but the portion size was great for a lunch order. If you are hungrier, they also offer 3-piece meals and more, so there's a good selection. The meal is also only $10 (excluding if you add a drink), which I think is very reasonable, especially in New York. This review is primarily for the service although the food wasn't good either, I placed a small mobile order, received a confirmation that the order was complete and ready for pickup and then ended up waiting over an hour along with 40-50 other people who were facing the same issue. The staff was very rudely ignoring some of the people while the manager was apologizing to some people and making their order quickly. They shouldn't send notifications that the order is ready if it isn't and maybe shouldn't take that many orders if they can't handle it. The restaurant was extremely busy during lunch time however the service is quick. It's a quick grab and go spot with some seating on the top floor. Last week, at Pollo Campero (the Midtown East one on Lexington Avenue), I enjoyed being warmly welcomed by a kind lady named Celinet; she efficiently served my spouse and I a delicious lunch! I'm really sorry, friends and fans, because we were so hungry and it was so darn yummy that we ate it in nearly one inhale and exhale. (No joke!) So, I don't actually have photos of the awesome food to share here. LOL Though I can share exactly what we received. (Thanks for asking! Ha!) Our lunch consisted of: a 2-piece, grilled chicken meal (a leg and a thigh), with 2 sides (plantains and a dinner roll), and a Horchata drink, as well as an additional side of Yucca fries...again, everything was yummy and tasted so fresh. We took our food upstairs and ate in their surprisingly spacious, comfortable and airy dining area. And - let me tell you drink fans - that Horchata was to die (well, let me be more positive), no, to live for. : ) Moreover, what we loved even more than the festive food and delectable drink (which is hard to top), was the ambiance. The people who work at PC Midtown East seem to genuinely take pride in working there and, again, welcoming people into their lovely establishment. And that is, sadly, almost a countercultural mood these days, especially in post-pandemic NYC. I mean, what we received when we walked in the door was *all smiles* -- and that type of evident kindness feeds the heart and soul in a way that food alone cannot.
