I have had a decade-long hiatus from Panda Express, because their food had been subpar during the long years I lived in LA. Well, I think this Panda has broken that hiatus, because this? This hits. I ordered the plate with two entrees, spicy orange chicken and honey walnut shrimp, and a split side of rice and chow mein. The chow mein was fresh from the wok. The cabbage was tender and the noodles had a nice chew. The fried rice was soft. The spicy orange chicken was sweet with a very slight kick, wonderfully candied, and meaty. The honey walnut shrimp will always be a crowd favorite: creamy, sweet, and also candied, with enough crunch to do it for me. It was meaty as well. I really enjoyed my plate here, and I especially wanted to shout out the older Asian gentleman manning both the food station and the register. The manager, Marianne, treated the staff HORRIBLY!!! The cash register would not open to provide change to the customer. Therefore, the employee informed the manager of this problem. When the manager, (Marianne) came out from the back of the restaurant, she berated her staff in front of customers by talking to them condescendingly which is totally unacceptable. The looks on the employees faces were heartbreaking a they were afraid to say anything. The staff did nothing wrong. Marianne should be retrained or even fired. I don't know if it was because this was delivery, but the portion sizes were so much smaller than I ever imagined they would be. I got the orange chicken, 1/2 lo mein, 1/2 fried rice, and crab rangoons. The orange chicken was probably the best part of this dish. I thought the crab rangoons tasted too much like a cream cheese bagel. The fried rice was not seasoned at all - tasted bland. The lo mein was also bland. This is one of many lunch locations in close proximity of my workplace were you can get a decent meal but for $10 and up. I do not come here regularly because of this reason alone. However, on the occasions where I do decide to get lunch here, my go-to meal is the boneless organge chicken with vegetable fried rice and walnut fried shrimp. I recently began to request some soy sauce or whatever the dark sauce is at the far left on my fried rice. I gave it another try. Same problems. There is no way to reach anyone in the corporate office to let them know the customers feelings. The first Avenue restaurant is dark, does not give the feeling that it is particularly clean. Staff is extremely accommodating but that is the best I can say for it. Waited today for fresh fried rice to come out and fresh sweet fire chicken with pineapple. Neither was temperature hot enough to be safe to eat. There was not one piece of pineapple to be found in the whole order. You get a bowl full of fried rice and very little of the chicken. I said some thing so they gave me a little more. The orange chicken is usually tasty but sometimes there isn't even chicken in each bite (only batter). Occasionally, the staff cuts into the teriyaki chicken and it's severely undercooked. This is one of several lunch places my mom and I dine at when she is doing her check ups at Hospital for Special Surgery or Weill Cornell. This Panda is a pretty spacious location and even though there are lines during lunch hour rush, hospital staff frequent it, it moves quickly. The food presentation is great: the containers are always filled with hot and fresh food which is great because I don't want a dish that's been laying there awhile. Panda has dishes for every palate: there's Angus Steak or Walnut Shrimp or Orange Chicken and now Peking Pork. There's also chow mein, mixed veggies and fried rice. There are many ways to order: a bowl which is one entree with one side, a plate one entree and 2 sides and a larger plate. I tried for the first time the chicken teriyaki with minimal sauce and mixed veggies ( my fave Orange Chicken is a no no on my diet but it is delicious!). The veggies were not drained properly thus the water seeped into my chicken etc. The teriyaki was well prepared. There is seating but during lunch hour usually every table is taken. First and foremost Unique is awesome. We were the first people here at 10:30am and was greeted appropriately. As soon as we walked in the door she said, "Welcome to Panda..." She asked how we were? Can she help us with anything? She was very personable. I like her. My daughter even made a comment on how nice she is. As I sat here watching how the employees worked and interacted with the other customers I noticed that the other customers took easily to Unique. She even took the liberty to help a customer in a wheelchair with her tray of food. She tells customers to have a nice day after they have finished their meal or picked up their order. So on top of great tasting fast food this place has great customer service and employees. This is the main reason for my yelping this location. The space is always clean when I come in the morning or afternoon. The tables, floor, and chairs are in good condition. The space has good lighting. There is something special about a freshly cooked batch of black pepper chicken yummy.  Although I was taking my black pepper chicken to go I ate one piece (my favorite word) delicious! The chow mein lacks flavor but it's still good. $8 plus tax each for a one-entree bowl with noodles I won't complain at all. Granted it's a new store, but it's well-designed with a cafe-like seating area, trendy lights, and stream-lined menu. It did correlate a little with price, because it's pretty expensive for fast Chinese food! The items are the same as in other places, but the batches made area smaller and taste fresher. To be honest, I had a feeling that I would despise this place. But as the saying goes, curiosity killed the cat! (In this case, curiosity killed my $10+ bucks!) I was hungry and desperate for food.
