I love this place when I'm craving fried chicken, but don't want the usual Church's or Popeye's. Their fried chicken is a different flavor that I LOVE. I usually get the 8pc fried with campero rice and tortillas, this runs me about $18 which is so worth it. The chicken is crispy and crunchy and perfect when paired with Cholula hot sauce- which they offer at $2 a bottle. So convenient. I've also tried their grilled chicken which is marinated with a bunch of spices and dressed with lime. Their grilled chicken is soo flavorful and moist, even the breast! I love this place and will recommend it to any chicken lovers. Expand your palette. This is definitely overlooked but deserving of more attention! read more

The chicken is okay. It reminds me of Popeyes chicken. I tried their legs, thighs, breasts, wings and the camperitos. They make about four different kinds of sauce, but it was difficult for us to get them to let us try all of them. There is a pink sauce, an orange sauce. a yellow sauce and a green sauce. They might tell you the green sauce is only used in the kitchen for a specific menu item. After much dialog, we were able to procure all four sauces to use as dipping sauces for our camperitos. The sauces are discussed openly on their official website, so we assumed they would be easily accessible. One sauce is too thick, it is mayo based- I think it is chipotle mayo. But the yellow sauce, the orange sauce (the one they will try to push on you as the default sauce) and the green sauce are all very nice with camperitos. I had the flan dessert. It was okay. I recommend the yucca fries. My grandma is from Costa Rica and I have Panamanian family, so I grew up eating yucca and cassava, but those roots are not commonly eaten in the States. So, their yucca fries were very comforting for me. Very tasty. Try it. So yeah, I think the best things here are the yucca fries and the camperitos with as many sauces as you can muscle out of them. You'll have to pay extra for extra sauces, (like 50 cents a ramekin), but it's worth it. read more

I gave Pollo Campero 5 stars because this is how a fast food chain can be as good as it gets. This is a fast food chain, with fast food prices but with a restaurant feel. A typical meal with a drink included is around $6.00. Food is served to your table in white plates and you use actual silverware. No need to leave a tip since it is a fast food restaurant. I tried the grilled chicken, yuca frita, and the campero beans and I was VERY happy. My kids ordered the kids meal (1 fried drumstick with fries) and had "flan" for dessert which was pretty good. I don't understand what all the hype about this place is, but I was NOT impressed. we had no idea what to even order (this was before I started using yelp btw), so what better way to order than the special combo meal? it was a special that was running at the time and it came with like 3 pieces of chicken + 2 sides; no drink. they let us mix up the chicken with some fried and some grilled since it was our first time. service was decent and food was cheap. now, I've heard great things about how the chicken here is seasoned very well. I was excited to get home and chow down, but the only taste I got from the chicken was lemon/lime. what a disappointment. there was a lack of latin spices & seasoning. if I wanted lemon/lime chicken, then I would of just went to kfc that was next door and squeeze some lemon/lime from home on it. the side we got was french fries. that was dumb of us, but we really didn't kno what to get at the time. wish we could have tried their yucca fries though. not sure if i'll be back to try 'em out again..but if I do, I'll be sure to order more "authentic" meals..or sides. read more

Staff was super friendly, especially the manager on duty. He seemed to really enjoy interacting with his customers. A couple came in who looked nervous and unsure of what to order. After standing in line for a minute or two, they were about to head back out without food. He caught them before leaving and coaxed them back inside, offering samples and an explanation of the menu. The food was good. Not the most amazing fried chicken I've ever had, but definitely a great fast food meal. I would take Pollo Campero over McDonald's or any of the other burger joints any day. The fried chicken definitely has a different flair than the usual southern style, and the batter used to coat the chicken tasted slightly sweet to me. I had a combo (two chicken legs and a thigh) with yucca fries and a Jamaica drink (hibiscus tea). My husband also had a chicken combo, with a side of beans instead of yucca. The beans were great. I liked the yucca fries, but next time I'm getting the beans. They offered a variety of salsas and fixins for your meal (jalapenos, etc). I especially liked the spicy green tomatillo salsa. Friendly service-they even asked if I had been there before and, since I hadn't, offered samples. The chicken is very delish, but the sides are bland and the servings are super-small. If I want super-small servings I'll at least go to Popeye's where they at least have some flavor. The prices are high and you're mostly paying for the huge, sweet, fruity drink that comes with combos. Wow. We'd heard of Pollo Campero but this was our first time and were blown away by the very friendly service and awesome good. Suzy was the perfect server who so generously offered a cross section of samples. Both fried and grilled chicken were so good I can't decide which is my favorite. Seasoned perfectly! And the sides were deliciously unique. Seriously I rarely rave about quick service concepts but now I understand why this concept is so popular. It's now on our regular go to list. This is a fast food restaurant but it's not your typical fast food restaurant at all! The service was fast and friendly without the typical fast food attitude and general disarray. When you order you are given a sign with a number and then you can go to your seat, they actually bring the food to you. They use actual plates, okay plastic, but real plates and clear the table when you're finished. The place was pretty busy but the food came out quickly and it stayed busy the whole time we were there. We had the chicken strips with fries. The chicken was tender, juicy, not greasy and the fries were just right not blazing hot and they weren't greasy either. While I was eating one of the ladies who was working asked if this was my first time eating there, okay I stood out as I was the only non-Hispanic in the restaurant at that time ( a few others came and went later). I told her yes and she asked if I had tried the grilled chicken I told her I had not and she brought out a sample. Nice touch. This restaurant and its team offer premier service and delicious food! Ray and his team did an amazing job making me feel welcomed. The cashier was pleasant and the hostess did everything possible to make sure that I was taken care of. Ray took the time to explain the offerings and popular recommendations, which was awesome. Sides are basic and traditional, so kinda bland, but go well with the chicken, and for me its all about the chicken. The grilled is also delicious, but I'm partial to the fried. They have a nice chipotle-flavored red salsa, a spicy green tomatillo salsa, and fresh pico de gallo, all great tasting, wish they had more, like the thicker salsas. Great food but horrible customer service. Waited 20 minutes in drive thru. They close at 10p.m. but they run out of everything by 9:30 and all they say is sorry we ran out. If a restaurant is open til 10pm they should serve all items on the menu. I asked for plantains, mash potatoes, chips, pico de gallo and burritos and they were out by 930 of these simple items. I had the most memorable, positive restaurant experience - of any class of restaurant - of my life so far at the Norcross, Georgia location of Pollo Campero today. As a matter of fact, it was probably the best customer experience of any type that I've ever had. THE SHORT ANSWER: if you don't regularly eat here - your life isn't complete. I didn't know what I had been missing. I'll be back again and again I'm certain! This was my first time at any Pollo Campero. I had to go to their website to get their menu item names right for this review. Note: I edited out a lot of my story so that I could fit the post's character limit. They provided metal - not plastic - utensils wrapped in a paper napkin and real plates. I looked around to see if these were part of the special treatment, but it wasn't. All the diners, including several families, were served at their tables with the same service. Of course they couldn't serve everyone such a robust taste test. I was served almost immediately at my table with a ¼ of a chicken each of both their fried and grilled chicken, I think each of their Latin sides, each of their four Latin origin beverages and dinner rolls. One of the servers stopped by right away and friendly described each dish in detail. I was already impressed. All this gracious treatment would have fallen flat if the food didn't measure up. Maybe, I was already biased because of such wonderful, unexpected and unwarranted hospitality. Yet, the food was all original, fresh and most tasty. The fried chicken had a subtle, unique flavor compared to so many other quick serve restaurants. It was crisp on the outside but moist, tender and cooked perfectly inside. The grilled chicken was just as good but busting with flavorful seasons as expected. I highly recommend utilizing the lime wedges served with the grilled chicken to squeeze the juice over the top: delicious! The mashed potatoes and gravy was comfort and unassuming, surprisingly different and better than any other similar fast food similar fare. The flavor made me think it tasted just like fresh mashed potatoes I would fix at home would taste - not fluffed up powder potatoes with goopy gravy you might find elsewhere. The coleslaw was also fresh, colorful and well balanced in its ingredients. I prefer a sweet style recipe for coleslaw, but this non-sweet recipe would go on my table any day. The campo rice and the campo beans were both flavorful and lively without being bold. They were a great pairings with the chicken. The black beans were prepared great, too. It's another mildly flavorful, fresh dish with a recipe that shines because of the quality ingredients, not just bold cover-ups. They also shared samplings of their signature sides of plantains and yucca fries provided with sour cream and camper sauce respectively. I'll have to get the plantains every visit and occasionally pick up the yucca fries. Mmmm. I don't think I would have tried the Latin drinks if they didn't help me with that, but I would have gone wrong on my own. All four of them were different, but an awesome surprise. This gringo won't make the mistake of not picking up one or more each visit. I had horchata once before somewhere else and absolutely hated it. That other place must have really screwed it up, because it was awesome at Pollo Campero! The Jamaica and Tamarindo will be in my rotation as well. Though the Mango was worthy, it was unique enough for me in my travels to pinch hit often for one of the other three. This mango drink was the best quality I've found anywhere, though. First visit was good. Should have tried the grilled chicken, but went with fried chicken. It was good. YUCA fries were REALLY good. Tasted so fresh. Very good tomatillo sauce--very flavorful!
