This staple in Southeast Houston is a must visit! The food is second to none. The servers are super fast! The ambiance has always been friendly with good music in the background! Food was good. Gordita was a bit oily but eh non a few napkins can't fix. I will say they reminded me of a "popular" gordita restaurant not far from there. Well when they used to make em this way. You can't go wrong with a torta. Only problem I had and I'm sure it's something they can fix but cook the meat a bit more to get a nice char on it. The agua wasn't overly sweet but it wasn't lacking flavor either. The salsa umm yeah.. the green one I lit out the whole cup in half of my torta and I couldn't even tell it had salsa. I'm a red salsa type and I wish it was better. Would I come back? Yeah. Recommend it? Sure. For $21 I think I got a good amount of food. The sandwich was probably one of the best breakfast sandwiches that I've had in ages. The sweet concha contrasts with the ham, cheese, and bacon -- it all goes together perfectly. I wish I would've known about this place sooner!! I came here specifically for the bakery and had a very pleasant experience. **Please be mindful that the staff didn't speak fluent English, so I used my little knowledge of Spanish to better communicate with them. If you're not comfortable with this, I suggest you go elsewhere. When you first walk in, you'll see a shelving unit that has bread on top, a shelf filled with metal trays and a bunch of metal tongs. Grab a pair of tongs and a metal tray and use these to grab which pastries you want. Once you're done making your selections, you'll take your tray to the counter where they will bag everything up and then collect payment. When I first walked in I was very confused as to what do, but thankfully the employee working noticed and asked "necesita ayuda?" Then walked me through everything when I responded "sí, por favor". She was very kind and helpful and definitely appreciated my attempts at speaking Spanish to her. The prices here are so reasonable!! I literally spent $24 total on the 20 different things I got (I was picking up a bunch of goodies to take to family in Dallas and was choosing them based on photos sent so I'm not 100% sure what all I walked away with). Also, the employee saw me reaching for a conchas from the bakery display case and told me to get a fresh one from the shelf instead. This is one of my original favorite got to places when I am on the south side or up for a long drive. This is the best Tex-Mex place where you will find some of the best cheese enchiladas. When it comes to their chips and salsa, the salsa is served warm and I literally can just drink it. We always have to get a refill because I go through it like a drink. A Limonada is a must order drink. It is always made fresh not a fountain drink lemonade. Even better there is a bakery next-door to get all your favorite pan dulce. You must try everything at least once or at least do not go home without sweet bread. This is definitely one of my favorite Mexican food restaurants in Houston. I've been going here since about 2014. The prices are so reasonable. They also open very late, so it's great for a late night grub. My favorite dishes to get from here are the tacos and torta. My favorite meats to get with them are barbacoa or al pastor. This place does get busy pretty fast during peak times, but it's worth it. The complimentary chips and salsa are also really good too! I love how homey and casual the restaurant feels. My family and Taqueria Del Sol go waaaay back. TDS catered my grandparents' 50th wedding anniversary 30+ years ago, one of my sister's quince, and we pop in from time to time when in the area. It's been a while, so after a visit to the Houston Botanic Garden with mi madre, we swung by TDS for some eats. I got the Del Sol Bowl complete with chicken fajita and seasoned veggies over lettuce. The veggies were great! The portion was hefty. The chicken was just overcooked and very, very dry. My mom ordered the chile relleno that didn't have much batter. It was more of a chile covered in soggy batter that was falling off. Major disappointment. Service was prompt, the salsas were hot, and the agua de jamaica was good. My wife had the Carne Asada plate mixed. The chicken was super dry and tasted old or freezer burned. The ambience and vibe were pretty nice, nice seatings too. On to the food, I ordered 1 Al pastor taco and 1 Chicha verde Taco, and 1 Asada Carne Burrito. OMG the burrito was really huge! I think its enough to share for 2 people... the taste was good too but i felt like the Tacos meat were a bit dry, maybe cooked for a lil bit too long, but overall pretty good. Service is quick and it stays busy here. The ambiance is casual and it's somewhat loud. There is plenty of parking here as well. We had fajita, chicharrón and barbacoa tacos. All were very good and filled just right but they are pricier than others. The Gordita was thin but it had meat and cheese. These too were higher than other places especially if you order fajita meat. The only downside was that prices on the menu did not match what we were charged as you can see on my receipt.
