The food is tasty, except you have to be careful that you don't eat a fly. I stopped coming here, and it was not an easy decision, but the workers really don't care. I found a fly about a year ago. I went back with the fly kept in a plastic baggie. They seemed like it was no big deal, not even a sorry. They asked if I wanted another order of yellow rice. I said no​ because the meal was done, I had it to go. Instead of giving me full credit for the meal, which would have been about $20, they reimbursed me $5, which is supposedly the amount that the rice costs. Real Colombian food I love this restaurant :) Their soups are the best soups ever. Prices are fair and the service is good, very welcoming people. Always willing to help, they have outdoors seats which is nice for the season. They have typical Colombian food, like Bandeja Paisa, Sancocho, Ajiaco, Empanadas, etc. I have been in other Pollos Mario around Queens but for some reason this one is one of the best, the food taste better here. So many options, super affordable. It is the place to go if you're looking to feed a large family with some good Spanish food. All of the locals come here and you will find the natives here grubbing on everything as well. I'm fairly surprised to find the wide selection of South American drinks that they offer here and also a big fan of trying everything out. You have to have to have to order the bandeja tipica because it is seriously a lot of flavors and crispy chicharon that has me salivating still. I wasn't in love with the chicken and rice because it was shredded up and mixed into my rice already. I felt like it was lacking a little bit of sauce for that matter, but the portion was so large that it really was something that you can save for later. Service was amazing. Asked twice for a well cooked (fried) red snapper and same with tostones. I don't care how much I have to pay for my food as long as is worth the price but how disappointed I was when I opened my order and saw that the fish was so soft, not the way I asked twice, and the tostones were soaked in oil. literally I had to put the fish in a pan to finish cooking it! I am biased. I love any of the Pollos Mario restaurants. There are quite a few locations in Queens including in Astoria, Middle Village, 3 in Jackson Heights. Been to every location. From memory, I am almost sure Woodside is the smallest location of all the Pollos Mario in Queens. Been to this location a few times and there is only several tables in here. Only a couple of large tables and a few smaller tables on the lower level. Tiny location. My boyfriend and I seem to order the Mario's Special Platter very often at all the Pollos Mario locations, $18.25, which comes with a thin grilled steak (they cook it well done, it's going to be on the dry side), pork loin (excellent-very moist), Chicharron (fried pork skin, eat quickly!), 1/4 chicken (I always ask for dark meat), a generous side of rice and beans, fries (which I always ask for a substitute, maduros which is sweet plantains), and for making this plate look healthy...some salad. It feeds two people with leftovers!!! I am sure it feeds 3 or even 4 not so hungry people. We've tried the fried fish..which was only okay. The breaded chicken is delicious. And whenever a plate comes with fries, we always ask for maduros. We love maduros very much and it is very nice of them to let us substitute. This by far is not my favorite location. I had the frijoles con garra -- extremely flavorful beans with large chunks of pork accompanied by a humongous chicarron, an avocado, maduros, rice and a corn cake. The only thing I didn't care for was the corn cake, which was somewhat dry and tasteless. But the beans were out of this world! My husband had the lengua, which he loved. Unfortunately we were very disappointed with this restaurant. Usually a hole-in-the-wall setting is the sign of authentic food, but not this. I really hope that this restaurant is not the mark of good Columbian food. Based on the hit or miss reviews, we decided to give this a shot, but we shouldn't have. Everything was bland... usually South American cuisine excels in moist and well seasoned rotisserie chicken and we thought ordering that would be a safe choice. It was dry, under-seasoned, and we couldn't order enough cans of soda to chase the dry chicken with.... yes, no refills here. Grocery store rotisserie chicken ranks many notches above Mario's. Our other dish was some sort of chicken with rice, beans and salad. Nothing memorable, very bland, very dry. On a positive note, the gizzards and hearts soup I ordered was decent, and the only reason for the second star. I tried Pollos Mario for a Friday workday lunch, and it was pretty good. The decor inside is kind of like diner meets pizzeria, but South American, with large red booths for the restaurant, and a smaller area in the front. There are tv's with Colombian news, and the clientele and waitstaff seems to be mostly Latino, a good indicator of authenticity. The menu includes all the well known Colombian specialties, including rotisserie chicken, grilled pork, arepas, chicharron, breaded chicken, and fruit smoothies. The portions are unbelievably huge, and all include rice and beans. You can easily feed two people with one plate, or make 2-3 meals out of it. So in that respect, the value is great. However, the prices aren't extremely cheap, with most plates running around $15-20. For me, I can't eat a giant lunch on a workday, and I was going out to dinner right after work, so I couldn't bring the leftovers home, and didn't want to overfill myself. It was tricky in that respect because there was no lunch menu or small combos, so another girl and I decided to order a 1/2 rotisserie chicken and split some sides. The rotisserie chicken was absolutely perfect. It was cooked extremely well and was very juicy and delicious. We had a cheese arepa, which was a little disappointing, because it was just an arepa with a handful of shredded white cheese dumped on it. But it was good because I've never met a cheese arepa I didn't like. We also split a salad, which was pretty pathetic. Just a few scraps of cheap iceberg, two slivers of tomato, peas, and carrots. All this came with some spicy green sauce, which was too watery for my liking. I absolutely love Pio Pio's Peruvian creamier spicy green sauce, and was looking for something similar. I like how they scored the fish to create more crispy surface areas. I guess it also helps cook the fish faster and more evenly too. My friend had the sirloin steak with madaros (sweet plantain), guacamole, rice, and beans. I liked the fish, but my friend said the steak could be better. I like the madaros too. I ordered the mango juice and you can pick if you want it with water or milk. I chose milk and it was very good. For dessert, we had the tres leches flan. Is an obvious imitation of a more well known chain but thought it deserved a try given that we were in the area. Had the grilled skirt steak (I think) and the other half had the chicken. Overall, the food was good but given what I'm used to at the other spot, it was hard not to have it pale in comparison.
