Found this place walking around bright and early in SF and it was one of the only spots we saw open. It was such a pleasant surprise stopping in here. I picked up a box of pastries for everyone and was recommended the Almond Bearclaw which was delicious. I picked up a cream filled glazed crumb donut which was the BEST. I would come back just for that it was seriously incredible. We also grabbed a latte, raspberry danish and an apple strudel. There was only one person working and with this being the only open spot it was a bit busy. Perfect place to stop by if you're in the area before 8am when other businesses start opening up! There were barely any customers where many of the surrounding cafes and restaurants were packed, which we probably should have taken as a sign. We ordered a ham and cheese on an English muffin ($7), and a salmon avocado cream cheese croissant. I could have made the English muffin sandwich in our hotel room. The salmon avocado was fine enough, but the vegetables were old and soggy. The cappuccinos were decent and the woman at the counter was sweet. PLEASE BEWARE!! Do not buy anything from this establishment. It is absolutely disgusting. One of employees said the owner is making them sell all the pastries before placing a new order once per month, which is why the pastries look old and molded. Another employee lied and said the pastries were fresh and delivered that morning. I took a chance and bought one because I was so hungry. The almond milk is old and used until well after the expiration date. The place hasn't been cleaned either. The floors and and counters are filthy with flies all over the pastries. I worked in The Cannery for the better part of the first year I lived in SF. Admittedly, I was playing the "see how many hours I can spend in the office until I go bonkers"-game. Not liking to lose, I worked through most lunches and breaks (my choice) and rarely went far for lunch. I didn't seek out Waterfront Bakery, I ended up there by default. It was a lucky find. Waterfront Bakery offers pastries, breads, coffee and awesome sandwiches. I used to get their ham or turkey sandwich when I snuck away for 20 minutes. It's a great sandwich - good quality bread, fresh meats and veggies. They do a sliced cucumber that they cut into cubed sticks. I'll get a photo, but I really think these make the sandwich. The sandwiches are substantial. I ate half frequently and saved the rest for later. They also have delicious Ham and Cheese Croissants, which they can warm up in a press. Since the ingredients are A) Great and B) Three of my favorite ingredients ... It's a winner. The coffee selection is full of the standard fare, and everything I've had has been good. They also have bread for purchase, which I have never done. Bit looks good. Brass-Tacks: Classy little place. Small and hidden, a clearly the standards are high. The service is good, although a little on the laconic side. I'll trade quality for social effusivity. The space to eat inside is limited to a handful of tables, but the have an equal number outside as well. It's a cool little place to have a quiet bite or cup of coffee. 2.5 Stars. Eh! A sad disappointment. I decided to stop by here for lunch while at work last week, and I was super excited after reading reviews. The variety of breads was great, I chose a Dutch Crunch roll for my Roast Turkey sandwich. The roll was a good size, and I requested to have my sandwich heated. After ordering, I decided to seat myself outside. They have about 4 little round tables on the sidewalk covered with umbrellas. Sandwich finally arrived, looked yummy, but it came out not heated as I requested. Not a problem, I just sent it back to be warmed up; the gal kindly apologized and brought it back out. While the sandwich definitely looked y u m my , and made my stomach growl even louder, after taking one bit into it, I quickly started wondering what the hell I ordered. The name of the game here is "Where's the turkey?!?" Can you see it? There was TOO much lettuce, a piece of tomato, Monterey jack cheese, and sliced cucumber. But I could barely find the turkery! It was such a disappointment. The turkey if you can't find it is on the bottom--a skimpy piece below the lettuce right before bread, not the thing below the tomato, which is the cheese. For the price, including a Fisherman's Wharf neighborhood employee discount, my sandwich and apple juice cost 8 bucks. *Blah* With a discount? So not worth it in my eyes. I will definitely pass on this place next time and head over to Safeway in the North Point Center instead if I'm seriously craving a deli sandwich. read more

This place is terrible. My ham and cheese croissant was cold and the ham was stale. The order took for ever to come out. The customer service was horrible. I had to file a complaint against them. I had to return my items because the quality was so bad and they said they would give a full refund, but that it would take a while to process. That refund never came through.
