They have their own baker make fresh focaccia dough that they then par bake, before constructing their pizza masterpiece! They too had the right amount of crisp and the serranos on the spicy pepperoni is a game changer! I visited for the first time in many years and found that most vendors have changed over the years. One familiar vendor is the Sarefino's Pizzeria & Italian Deli. I had a delightful experience ordering some pizza for my friend and me as well as some pasta at the Pastaria next door. I arrived and looked around at the options. There was a small wait for a Saturday lunch, and I jumped at the chance to order pizza from a familiar restaurant. I remember ordering from them way back when. I attempted to use an Entertainment Book coupon (Buy 1 Get 1 Free), which hasn't been renewed for some time (though still shows up in the book). They were happy to honor the coupon and seemed delighted that I ordered pizza from them a long time ago. I ordered two pieces of pepperoni pizza, which were huge pieces and very tasty as well as nice and hot. Yum! It turns out that the man I was speaking to was Don Ziliak, the owner of Sarefino's Pizzeria & Italnian Deli (and also Pastaria and Pastaria Seconda, also located in the North Market). Don was very welcoming and made me feel right at home. He shared some of the history and also let me know how he had been an owner of the restaurants for quite some time. I learned that he initially acquired Pastaria in 1993, purchased Sarefino's in 1995, and opened Pastaria Seconda in 1998, making it a family-run business. The location is on the west side of the North Market along the wall. The hours at the North Market are Monday from 9 AM to 5 PM, Tuesday through Friday from 9 AM to 7 PM, Saturday from 8 AM to 5 PM, and Sunday from 12 to 5 PM. I would assume that later during the lunch hour during the weekends (and weekdays) it is probably quite busy. The pizza at Sarefino's is considered by their East Coast customers to be "the best pie in town" and is considered to be New York style pizza. They hand toss every pizza and serve it pie shaped by the slice daily. While I ordered pepperoni pizza, other favorites include cheese, and a veggie pizza with spinach, artichokes, and roasted red peppers. I certainly would come back to eat there again!
