After each party, get together , or after a while when my water bottles start over flowing I visit Ponce Recycling center to help the earth, and add some cash back into my pockets. Located next to ralphs , in the corner, its always busy but today i was in luck. Coming in the morning , on a weekday instead of say right after a major holiday makes a huge difference. The people working here are always helpful and friendly. Today my haul was $6.07 for a mix of water bottles, glass, and aluminum cans. Not bad. 10/10 read more

Dishonest and Unprofessional - Avoid the Marguerite Location If I could give zero stars, I would. The Ponce Recycling Center on Marguerite Parkway has a long history of shortchanging customers, making up their own rules, and treating people with blatant disrespect. Every time I visit, they reduce the number of recyclables I bring in, only to "magically" recount correctly after I call them out. Today, I brought in exactly 50 aluminum cans, and they tried to claim I had 48. The employee counting the cans did not communicate with the employee printing my receipt, so they tried to rip me off at both ends. When I demanded a recount, they both threw a tantrum, slammed the cans down, and eventually admitted I was right--but not before cursing me out in Spanish. To make matters worse, they allow certain customers to recycle non-CRV items, like dish soap bottles, yogurt containers, and bean cans, while refusing to accept legitimate CRV items like my pineapple juice cans. There is absolutely no consistency in their rules. It's clear they favor some people while treating others with hostility and dishonesty. Their behavior is completely unprofessional. The staff ignore me when I arrive, refuse to acknowledge me when I say hello, and act like they are personally handing me money out of their own pockets when all I am doing is reclaiming the deposit I already paid. And the worst part? When they shortchange customers, they pocket the stolen money for themselves. Today, after both employees tried to steal from me, the worker printing my receipt threw it at me, threw a dime at my face, and told me "F* you" in Spanish. The employee counting the cans also joined in cursing at me. Strangely enough, my Latino friends never have any issues. They take their word on the number of cans they bring without counting, but they always try to shortchange me. I've given them multiple chances, but this is a pattern of behavior, not a one-time incident. If you value your time, money, and sanity, avoid the Marguerite Parkway location at all costs. I have been coming here for years, the location is convenient and honestly there are not many Recycling centers close by. I am sharing updated photos, what bins sort what and now and hours of operation including their lunch break. They are open Monday -- Saturday from 9-5pm, Closed all day Sunday. Lunch Break between 1-1:30 See photo for 2022 holiday hours. How to sort cans/bottles/glass. Black with holes = plastic bottles and cans. Blue no holes = glass. The staff will then pour your items into another container to check that they are sorted correctly and bottles are empty. Next, they will weight them and you will get a slip of paper to write your first name and sign that you agree. (If u don't agree you can always just donate your recycling and tip the hard working staff - as in there is no way to get your items back and take to another location) other wise grab ur cash drop it in your piggy bank and save up for something special. This is what I do it takes awhile to save up but every cent counts. I use to get a lot more $ back from Recycling than I do currently have prices changed or are they ripping you off like others have posted? read more

I'm curious if anyone has walked w more than around $30? It seems no matter how much I take here that's the amount I get EVERY TIME. Regardless of what size vehicle I take there (whatever I drive I always put as many recyclables as it'll hold) even when I took a full on open bed pick up, still only $30. I feel like if I took a small uhaul I would still only get $30 but that's just speculation. Has anyone ever actually done something like that and got more than around $30? Maybe that's an accurate price, I'm really not sure but the whole thing just has a strange shady type vibe and it doesn't help the workers supposedly conveniently don't speak English well and can't seem to answer questions that might be asked in order to clarify pricing so your left w a bit of confusion on how the price came to be... Feel like they take advantage of the fact there the only recycling place in the area..bc even if they are ripping me off what am I going to do about it. This bad review is to the particular operator. It happened on 12/14/2024 9:41am. I had two recycling items, one was aluminum cans, the other was water bottles. He treated water bottles with profession, however, he treated the aluminum cans with greedy. He purposely left his hand on the aluminum cans recycling basket when he weighted it, and purposely lifted the basket. So when he entered the weight of aluminum cans, the weight was from 2.4 lbs to 0.8 lbs. When I took over the receipt, I told him " oh, the aluminum cans are so cheap". Another thing was on the receipt, he stated his name as 'USER'. I found this recycling center while ago. The first recycling experience was great. So I came back for recycling again. Not good this time. It was just a couple bucks, but I hate liar. Basically, if the center management is reading reviews. The management shall be clear to the process. Like the hand off the basket when weighting, mandatory leave the first name of operator on the receipt etc. read more

Best recycling center in South OC. They weigh it all which means they are very quick to get you the cash. I went on a Saturday afternoon and there was no line. The amount came out to what I would have anticipated and we were done in less than 2 minutes. Felt bad for the men working there though because there were a lot of bees flying around in there. read more

First things first - I'm disabled and a fall risk. About an hour ago, I was at this recycling center dropping off $36 worth of recyclables. Though I was 3rd in line, the owner did not seem to care that I was disabled. He was not helping me - even though I spoke Spanish, his associate also was barely helpful. I do understand that with COVID (for which the owner wore no mask, yet works with multiple people daily) & post-holiday things make time difficult, however he'd promised me I'd be next I'm line & told me to pull up in the no parking zone; I felt relieved. I'm on SSDI & moving heavy things is very hard for me because I'm a fall risk. Once I pulled up, a host of people had pulled up after me; then the owner said he could not assist me. Despite my disability I initially would've given Ponce 1 star if not less, but 2 EXTREMELY sweet women came through, putting my needs above their own. They completely helped me out to get my bottles/cans to the front. I could not be more grateful. They are the ONLY reason I added any stars, not because of Ponce, yet because of these 2 amazing women who showed up at just the right time to help me. I'd just gotten out of 3 hospitals (not COVID- related) & needed to head out of state for further care. One of the ladies was a beautiful blonde in a camouflage jacket named Lisa; unfortunately I did not get the other lady's name, but she looked like the amazing actress Laura Fraser (see IMDB) from what I could see above her mask. Not only did they help me, but they even gave me their earnings from their own recycling, putting my needs above their own. I've lived in C.Mesa for the past 14 yrs. It seems that the most compassionate people in OC live in Mission Viejo, RSM, & Aliso V. They're like OC's best kept secret esp. compared to CM. I must say that I'm honestly not a huge believer in a religious God; I believe that the universe is my "God", but for some reason I couldn't stop saying God bless you to these generous ladies. For some reason I felt someone was looking out for me. Probably the universe, but all I could keep repeating was God bless them. I felt silly saying it, but I consider what they did a blessing - a 'godshot' - they couldn't have appeared at a better time. One day, when I don't need to recycle bottles just to make a living out here, as my disability prevents me from working, and I'm ashamed to require govt $ - I know when I do move back to CA once my health improves, I'm def. going to look to those areas for which to move, assuming my disability improves enough for me to return to work. Had I not been used to the OCC recycling center which is amazing with at least 10 employees, I understand that there were only 2 people working at Ponce, so the delay made sense. However when the owner told me to park in the handicapped area, said I'd be next, then went back on his word, by the time I was ready to have my recyclables moved to the front (something I was dizzy, panicky, and incapable of doing on my own as a fall risk) several additional cars pulled up. The owner just put them before me. I would never wish any disability on anybody and I also hope that he and his family, (¡así como la familia del otro empleado que trabaja allí. Él no habla Inglés, y mi Español es malo, así que espero que pueda leer y entender estas palabras!) keep their word and become familiar with ADA law. If Lisa and her friend happen to be reading this, I want you to know that you are really selfless, fabulous women, & I'm at a loss for words regarding your generosity. If there was a way to leave Ponce 1 stars & those compassionate ladies 6 stars, I would have. In Costa Mesa's OCC recycling, when they tell you you are in line, you are in line... they even help you carry up your load. Perhaps it is because they have more employees, much more "partying in CM" but maybe it's something else that owner and employee should consider if the power-hungry Ponce people blatantly lied to a disabled woman - for which I wear lanyards stating my multiple disabilities worn on me at all times - by the owner. Gipped me out of 5 cents. Not much but it's the principle of it. Ponce Recycling at Lake Forest and Trabuco: There is a substitute there for Omar. I had 200 12 oz cans, always weigh 5.8 to 6 lbs. They weighed and dumped before I had a chance to see weight then told me it was only 5 lbs. They also argued. Gipped me out of $1.60. You need to hire more honest people like Omar. He never cheats anyone. Very disappointed in the service. I don't like to be cheated. read more

This place is scamming so hard I have been collecting these for over a year, what an absolute joke. I urge anyone and everyone reading this to avoid Ponce at all costs. 22.5 weight? Is that pounds? Because I had like 10-20 cans so that makes 0 sense that their weight would be 19.0. Questioned them about the cost I was getting back and they acted clueless. They need to change their posted recycling list. As far as we can tell, they only accept CRV items. We were hoping to keep a large amount of PS #6 styrofoam out of the landfill, but we were told that they don't accept it. The same goes for LDPE #4 plastics - it's not accepted at this recycling center. read more

Biggest rip off ever. DO NOT COME HERE! They are stealing from people. My partner and I took 25 bags of aluminum cans, plastic bottles and glass... they tried to give us $22!!!!! We complained and they gave us $40. It should've been closer to $200. They are making numbers up and don't let you watch while they weigh. This was a giant mistake to come here. We saved all this recyclable material for so long to have a decent payout and instead we got totally jipped. This place needs to get shut down and reported. Was surprised to see how the new set up was. I thought I had to organize my cans and bottles like usual but these guys take care of the organizing which is convenient during this time! They have you sign your receipt and they give you the cash up front! The price per can and bottle is more than the last recycle company that was there so that's a plus! This review is so overdue...how we forget when busy with the holidays. About 3 months ago, I stopped by the Ponce located in Aliso Viejo Town Center behind Ralphs on Aliso Creek Rd. We're new to the area. The two guys working there, absolutely coordinated together to rip me off. Obviously, they need the $ more than I do...this is what saved me from holding the anger toward them. I told them that me and my husband (both) did a count of the clean CRV bottles and cans. They one guy inside did not even bother to weigh them. Then, the super-sticky fingered guy outside the covering, with the dark rimmed glasses, who seems to want you to put your return money into his tip jar (noticed this, too, the only other time that i was there), suddenly grabs the container that I poured the contents into and starts to quickly and DISTRACTEDLY begin to count them himself. His buddy, inside, said, "He counted 63." (For this container). I said, "NO way - he's counting too fast and he's distracted. My husband and I counted 100...both of us. There's 100 in that can, for sure." (So that's part of the $2.80 at $1.85, that they "decided" to keep.) And then, they shorted me on the others. So, to the owner of Ponce. Are your workers keeping $2.80 of my money worth this review to you? BTW...Loved the way that these two guys "suddenly" did not seem to "understand" English when I was telling them of the big count difference. Sticky-fingers (with dark glasses) had some of the cans and plastics laying on the ground so that they couldn't be properly weighed, anyway. Just think: Let's say that they pull this blatant theft game on only about 50 customers a day. This is between $100 to $150 that they could be pocketing everyday...and they know it. I had the idea this was per can/bottle redemption. They go by weight, which is faster. I did the math, and the total comes close to what I'd expect per can/bottle. As certain comments here are posted... Rip off location when it comes to their services to the accurate payment of the actual recycling turned in. Disrespectful employees... Recent taking into consideration newest staff & services.... Upon my approach, the newer employee leaves his post to process my recycling to talk to their 'friend' who recycles daily & speaks w/ her, leaving me standing there waiting for someone to process the recycling. I usually need to say something in order for them to begin & this is retaliation due to the request that they payout accurately for that which is provided & calibrate their scales b/c turning in similar amounts yet the payout is quite different is what began to make me a question. I count them myself for those I could & they don't bother to count them & yet complain about my asking to weigh something as weigh anything above 50 as is policy & yet as aforementioned the scale is way off at times. Regardless ...I get what I get. Only upon obvious error did I ever request they correct it & Alexis or Alex the cashier/documenting in error gives me a hard time & then retaliates publicly should I ask for them to payout what was given & I document so my count is accurate. He even sends his coworker to me afterward after giving me a hard time & asks me what the count or weight was to put it in as even though he acknowledged he didn't enter it. The customer behind me heard my comments to them requesting they accurately process & stating I didn't appreciate the frequent shortage w/ my getting retaliated upon should I say anything. They've got a profit for more than their hourly wages & that in cohorts w/ others whom I will not name. Regardless of their work ethics, stealing from me isn't appreciated. Numerous persons noticed the disrespect & cheating/shorting me & the large payout to someone else while cash exchanging hands from that person to their employees as well. Not to mention the theft from my nearby belongings while distracted being given a hard time by their employee questioning my accuracy keeping my attention. Sadly, I became stranded in the area at the moment & this is my only source of income if/when possible, while others have rather 'creative'&skimming behavior&try get rid of me from area to not get caught. I am not their judge & they each ...to whom it applies ..are responsible for their own actions regardless of impersonation of someone & then ppl trying accuse me.:/ Insistant I be 'rushed' through' after making me wait to turn in the recycling in an effort to get a line behind me & then apologize to the ppl behind me making it seem I am a problem & that I am the reason that they are having to wait!!!
