    Shrimp Soup

I got to try the Shrimp soup, rice, tortillas, and horchata from here. The Shrimp soup is on the more expensive side but it did came with a very generous amount of shrimp. Horchata was also good, but slightly sweeter than my preference. Tortillas were great, chewy and warm. In terms of service, our server did not speak even 1 English word, even I cannot speak Spanish, it was extremely hard to order or just to ask what does the soup even come with (like rice and tortillas).

Very large indoor Mexican restaurant. It's lost its appeal over the years. The service becomes a little weak when serving large parties. We've had the fajita botana platter and have been very satisfied. Portion sizes are large. Rice and beans taste authentic. Their chips and salsa are also good. Nice added touch with the traditional Mexican colors and decor. The large fountain in the center tie it all together.

I've already been to this restaurant three times in the last few days and I still can't get enough! Every time I go I order the beef tacos and they are sooooo tasty! The tacos are flavorful, the meat is cooked really well, and the sauces are a great compliment. I am in love with the tacos here! The service is really quick and friendly as well. If you eat inside they have a nice set up with a huge waterfall in the middle of the restaurant. It's very lively and filled with music.

Cucumber margarita and my fresh flour tortilla, refried beans, and chile toreado

This place is like a party everyday! I have been here on 3 occasions and there's been some brave souls up on stage doing the Karaoke. It gets pretty loud and crazy if you're near the stage area. If having a good time is your thing sit in that area but if you like it a little more toned down, the bar area or far away from the stage is your best bet. My latest visit to Pancho's was last week to celebrate my sister's birthday. On a Saturday around 8 p.m. they had a 25 min. wait. I had promised margaritas and a good time so I asked to be seated at the bar while we waited for a table to open up close to the stage; yes I went there. After a few margaritas I could probably muster some courage and sing a little, who knows. We ended up just chilling at the bar, we started with 2 shots of Patron Silver and then we must have tried every margarita in the menu twice! Just kidding, we did try the Mangonada blended, this had a little spice kick to it and was my favorite, I ordered 2 of those. Those Mangonada margaritas might be a favorite here because they kept flying by me in server trays to the tables. The bar tender, wish I would have taken his name was amazing, this place is high paced and he was super attentive, knowledgeable and quick to whip up those drinks for us. He suggested we try the Cucumber margarita but on the rocks to get the full flavor of the tequila and it was delicious! I was craving home made flour tortillas and fresh refried beans with some Chiles toreados(roasted chili peppers)and that's what I ordered. My sister was craving lots of cheese! So she ordered a botana plate with carne asada. The botana plate came with some hot quesadillas, fresh guacamole, and lots of gooey cheese piled on top of some carne asada. This was all perfect for both of us. Perfect bar food if you ask me. The party ambiance was perfect and even though the seating staff totally forgot about us and didn't seat us front stage it ended up being better at the bar. It wasn't so loud and my sister and I were able to catch up, share memories, and lots of laughs. I'll definitely be back! This is my new celebration spot from now on.

You walk in and are immediately greeted. Amazing service already! A waitress walks you to your seat and she asks for your drink. Then when the drinks come you are brought salsa and chips. The salsas were yum yum yummm! One salsa was homemade pico de gallo, another was red salsa, and the third was salsa verde. All the salsa had kicks to them but they were so kicking good ;) We ordered guacamole viva Mexico and it was so good - we added pepper, but that is just how we like it. The food platters are B I G! We ordered plato las gueras and the plate was massive. The food tasted amazeballs. I love the rice so much I had to order a la carte to take home. At the end, I waited until happy hour, and bought a margarita and it was WELL worth the wait!! We also got cuauhtemoc queso that came with homemade tortillas and the tortillas were yummy, and the queso was good, but not like queso you dip - it was on a skillet. The waitress was also very attentive and ensured we were ok. Even though we had a language barrier, our concerns and questions were answered and handled. Definitely a place we would return to.

Pros: Our food was good. The service from our waiter was prompt and good. My Margarita was nice and strong, but too syrupy, I was hoping for strawberry purée instead. Cons: The chips were way too greasy, couldn't eat them. The hostesses at the front were friendly on the way in and just cold and off putting on the way out. Like a total "welcome in, spend your money, now get out, " kind of vibe. Weird, not much for customer service Bonus: The guy playing the guitar, singing from table to table was great! Super entertaining! My toddler danced around in her seat the whole time.

Grimey and dark yet festive atmosphere complete with a large, working fountain in the middle of the restaurant. I was pretty grossed out when the person that seated us wiped the plates with a towel then proceeded to wipe down the table with the same well-traveled towel. *Shudder!* (I tried hard not to throw up in my mouth). If I was alone I would have walked right back out, but we were meeting someone. The prices were higher than other Mexican restaurants so we settled on a botana for two to split among our party of three. It was plenty of food, but still smaller than a botana for two at other restaurants. The food was surprisingly good although there seemed to be less meat than other botanas. Left to my own devices I would not come here again and would be quick to suggest an alternative to others. The towel incident and the weird interior still make me grimace when I remember our experience!

I had the pan his especial. Stuffed chili relleno, chicken enchiladas, a flaunts with rice and beans. Lot of food but little flavor. Also, the waiter did not speak English. Fast service. I doubt if I'll go back.

The Sauces. Red one is spicy, green one is tasty.

THE ATMOSPHERE. And I'm talking about the vibe, the food, the service, the dimness, the smells and sounds- All of it! The waiter was well versed in the menu and ingredients. We tried the barbacoa and machacado plates for breakfast, and tried out the oatmeal on the side and Wow. Very large portions and the flavor of those sauces was wonderful. The oatmeal was watery but in a good, soothing way like a sweet soup with a couple lumps like momma used to make. Can't go wrong stopping here!

Small bowl of chips and two salsas.

Not all that good; giving a choice, Taco Bell sounds better. Also, most Mexican restaurant serve extra chips and salsa if people want more. Ponchos has in two sentences at the bottom of a page on the menu, that an extra serving of chips will cost you. :( We had to wait for our waitress, drinks and food. Don't see myself returning. The music is too loud for lunch! My sister just asked if this is a disco!!!!

The food was really good and big portions. The watermelon margarita was really yummy. Service was great.

A Hidden Gem for Mexican Seafood -- Don't Sleep on This Place!…read more As a traveler from California in town for a swim meet, I was on the hunt for good Mexican seafood and stumbled upon La Costa Grill. Based on the reviews, I had decent expectations -- but this place blew them out of the water. The ratings honestly don't do it justice. From the moment we walked in, the hospitality was warm and genuine. We were greeted by the hostess and seated right away, even during the lunch rush. Then came a wonderful surprise: our server brought out a mini skillet of the most incredible black refried beans for dipping, alongside four salsas ranging from mild to hot, all served with tostadas -- compliments of the house. Back in California, you're lucky to get one salsa, let alone refried beans as a free starter. It immediately set the tone for the meal. Our server was knowledgeable and genuinely helpful with recommendations. We ended up sharing a lunch portion of paella, an octopus taco, and a fish ceviche tostada -- and every single dish delivered. The octopus taco was a standout; served over a layer of refried beans, it was a flavor combination I didn't know I needed. The ceviche tostada was fresh and bright, and the paella was satisfying and well-seasoned. I also have to give our server extra credit for her transparency -- she mentioned upfront that the paella leans heavier on rice than seafood. That kind of honesty is rare and really appreciated. We ordered it anyway, and we were glad we did. If you're visiting McAllen and want authentic, flavorful Mexican seafood with outstanding service and hospitality, La Costa Grill needs to be on your list. I'll absolutely be returning before I head back home.
