I got to try the Shrimp soup, rice, tortillas, and horchata from here. The Shrimp soup is on the more expensive side but it did came with a very generous amount of shrimp. I've already been to this restaurant three times in the last few days and I still can't get enough! Every time I go I order the beef tacos and they are sooooo tasty! The tacos are flavorful, the meat is cooked really well, and the sauces are a great compliment. I am in love with the tacos here! The service is really quick and friendly as well. If you eat inside they have a nice set up with a huge waterfall in the middle of the restaurant. It's very lively and filled with music. read more

I stopped here for lunch while in McAllen on a work project. The place is really big and they have a fountain in the center of the dining hall. They have a small stage where it looks like they have live bands. They also have karaoke on tuesdays, and thurs - fri. They also have a full bar. It is a bit on the expensive side but they give you a lot of food. I ordered the enchiladas suisas plate. It was good! It had 3 or 4 enchiladas and rice and beans on the side. The server was great! He was a really nice guy and was very attentive and polite. I would certainly come back. This place appears to be a local institution. read more

This place is like a party everyday! I have been here on 3 occasions and there's been some brave souls up on stage doing the Karaoke. It gets pretty loud and crazy if you're near the stage area. If having a good time is your thing sit in that area but if you like it a little more toned down, the bar area or far away from the stage is your best bet. My latest visit to Pancho's was last week to celebrate my sister's birthday. On a Saturday around 8 p.m. they had a 25 min. wait. I had promised margaritas and a good time so I asked to be seated at the bar while we waited for a table to open up close to the stage; yes I went there. After a few margaritas I could probably muster some courage and sing a little, who knows. We ended up just chilling at the bar, we started with 2 shots of Patron Silver and then we must have tried every margarita in the menu twice! Just kidding, we did try the Mangonada blended, this had a little spice kick to it and was my favorite, I ordered 2 of those. Those Mangonada margaritas might be a favorite here because they kept flying by me in server trays to the tables. The bar tender, wish I would have taken his name was amazing, this place is high paced and he was super attentive, knowledgeable and quick to whip up those drinks for us. He suggested we try the Cucumber margarita but on the rocks to get the full flavor of the tequila and it was delicious! I was craving home made flour tortillas and fresh refried beans with some Chiles toreados(roasted chili peppers)and that's what I ordered. My sister was craving lots of cheese! So she ordered a botana plate with carne asada. The botana plate came with some hot quesadillas, fresh guacamole, and lots of gooey cheese piled on top of some carne asada. This was all perfect for both of us. Perfect bar food if you ask me. The party ambiance was perfect and even though the seating staff totally forgot about us and didn't seat us front stage it ended up being better at the bar. It wasn't so loud and my sister and I were able to catch up, share memories, and lots of laughs. I'll definitely be back! This is my new celebration spot from now on. read more

You walk in and are immediately greeted. Amazing service already! A waitress walks you to your seat and she asks for your drink. Then when the drinks come you are brought salsa and chips. The salsas were yum yum yummm! One salsa was homemade pico de gallo, another was red salsa, and the third was salsa verde. All the salsa had kicks to them but they were so kicking good ;) We ordered guacamole viva Mexico and it was so good - we added pepper, but that is just how we like it. The food platters are B I G! We ordered plato las gueras and the plate was massive. The food tasted amazeballs. I love the rice so much I had to order a la carte to take home. At the end, I waited until happy hour, and bought a margarita and it was WELL worth the wait!! We also got cuauhtemoc queso that came with homemade tortillas and the tortillas were yummy, and the queso was good, but not like queso you dip - it was on a skillet. The waitress was also very attentive and ensured we were ok. Even though we had a language barrier, our concerns and questions were answered and handled. Grimey and dark yet festive atmosphere complete with a large, working fountain in the middle of the restaurant. I was pretty grossed out when the person that seated us wiped the plates with a towel then proceeded to wipe down the table with the same well-traveled towel. *Shudder!* (I tried hard not to throw up in my mouth). If I was alone I would have walked right back out, but we were meeting someone. The prices were higher than other Mexican restaurants so we settled on a botana for two to split among our party of three. It was plenty of food, but still smaller than a botana for two at other restaurants. The food was surprisingly good although there seemed to be less meat than other botanas. Left to my own devices I would not come here again and would be quick to suggest an alternative to others. This restaurant is definitely different from any other restaurant I have been to. The customer service was great but the atmosphere was really not for me. They have Karaoke which I love, but this one was different. It was extremely loud. So if you are looking for a intimate setting where you can sit down and have a nice conversation this is definitely not the place to go. The guy that sings most of the songs dresses up in all these different costumes I guess to throw a little comedy relief in there. The food wasn't bad except for the beans having a burnt taste to them. Before you order your food they bring you chips and salsa which was really good also. They are open 24hrs so that is definitely a perk when you are out late and no other restaurant is open. Some people had on mask and some didn't. Sanitizer is available as soon as you walk in. They have a pretty intense menu...so if you cant make up your mind, give the chicken enchilada a shot! I got the verde sauce on mine...Good Stuff. Chip and hot sauce...YES!!! Chips are thick, but the hot sauce was a bit weak for me. I would refer to it more as colored Gringo sauce. Happy Hour: $2 Beer cans & Margaritas. Beer Good. Margarita WEAK...so soooo WEAK!! Cheap price during happy hour but not worth it. Service was good. Our waiter was not fluent in English but he did his best. This place was very popular a few years back especially for breakfast. It had a great vibe very family friendly now it's more like a late late night karaoke bar that's extremely loud. The people working the karaoke try and do their part by putting on a show and making jokes but isn't enough to make up for bad service by some staff. The first beer I had tasted like it was reduced with water or if it had been open for a few hours and just sat there then brought to me, very bad stuff. I mentioned it to my waiter who had been on his phone for quite some time, extremely unprofessional, he seemed fairly young. He did bring me a different one that tasted much better but it was useless by that point I was already disappointed and thinking twice if I should order food or not. My date was looking forward to trying the enchiladas there so decided to stay. I ordered a plate that had a beef flank 10 oz with an enchilada, beef and rice. The flank was super tender and perfectly seasoned, was a bit surprised with all the flavor it had. All the beef here is prepared "well done" not a big fan but still had some juices, wasn't that bad. The cheese enchilada was done OK nothing to die for, tortilla texture was a bit bland but enjoyed it either way. Same goes for the rice and beans, rice wasn't soggy which is OK, the beans tasted as if they were from a can. Wait time was average, it was past midnight so not surprised by that. Prices are slightly high and service is OK some nights and just plain terrible other nights. If you're craving some OK Mexican food late night or a beginner at karaoke then this is the spot for you. read more

i went to poncho's on Sunday 5-18-25.....i was there about 7:20AM for the after i buffet. ......i noticed that after i received water i could NOT help but notice that at least 3/4 of the food service stations were NOT FILLED with ANYTHING !!!.....NO bacon.....NO sausage...NO ham....NO scrambled eggs.....NO pancakes.....NO French toast....NO biscuits......HAD to go and have eggs cooked while i wait.....however there were fruit.....some kind of shredded chicken.....sp AFTER eating my eggs there were STILL NONE of the above on the buffet !!! SOOOO wanting a couple of pancakes i HAD to go to the grill and WAIT for them to be made !!!!.....even the waitress stated she did NOT know WHY the food was later coming out today !!!!......after all the i went to pay my bill and the MGR. was up at the register and i questioned is the bill REALLY $17.99 ??!!!!.....and he stated yes !!!...i will NEVER be back and will tell ALL the people i know and the Winter Texans about this !!!!............... read more

They have 3 main restaurants (been to all of them), then one in the mall, one at the university & a fast food type one down the road (which I haven't tried any of other latter 3). Of the main 3 this is my go to one & it's open 24/7! They remodeled it about a year or so ago. It's very spacious & has lots of tables. They wall facing the Expressway is full windows now so it let's in a lot of natural light to about 1/4 of the space nearest to them therefore they had minimal lighting on, which made it a little hard to read the menu (but, we made it)! They have a stage for what I'm assuming is live music/entertainment for nights/weekends. The separate bar area is pretty nice. I love the very Mexican feel, decor & the wait staff's uniforms of all the main restaurants! Service: Very friendly, attentive & prompt! Mostly Spanish speaking though. Our waiter today was super cool. We arrived at 11:30 AM & the breakfast buffet was still out but, they were about to pick it. I've never made it to breakfast there but, I've heard it's really good. My friend was curious so went to look at what was on there. Our waiter asked if she wanted to try the menudo before they put it away to which she accepted & loved it. Food: AUTHENTIC & DELICIOUS!!! The salsas are really good (while not spicy for my liking they are very flavorful), tortillas are homemade & everything is always fresh & very well served! They have a lunch menu w/more than a few specials for $5.99. You can still order from the dinner menu though (which I usually always do). While some of the items are a bit pricey, it's worth it compared to other similar restaurants that are priced higher. I love all of their enchiladas especially the Verdes. Typically, most places make it w/a kind of bitter tomatillo sauce; here they make it w/a thick savory green salsa (not spicy at all just very flavorful)! One of my favorite Mexican spots! The food is great here! My only gripe is the lighting. It is insanely horrible. It feels like you're walking into a dungeon. The bulk of the interior is basically unlit, relying on a wall of windows on the north end to bring in light. Without widows anywhere else, it cats a crazy dank gloominess into the place. It's a platter that brings together families in the best and worst of times. We share the food, along with stories to entertain one another. We challenge each other to see who can grab the largest set of tostadas with everything on it, and we used our forks to battle over the last piece of fajita meat. The botana is my go-to food when I make a visit back home. Yes, I understand there is other types of food on the menu, but the botana is the only one of its kind in Texas, perhaps the country, that exists. It's not nachos. It's not panchos.
