It's OK. Was within walking distance of the Best Western so we ended up here for convenience. At least we got in before the rush! We visited Devils Tower and stayed nearby. We did not have a lot of options to start with in the area as it is remote. Dinner options after 7 are even slimmer. This was open till8. I had ribs that came with sour salad,potatoes and slaw. Excellent food. My wife had pork chops that were great. There wear good quantities and the service was terrific. The town was nice. At night it looked like only a couple things were open. This restaurant has a bar area in the back that was quite lively. We had a very nice experience. read more

I was so excited to see this place was open for dinner. This tiny little restaurant is a must not miss if you are in town. The young lady who was serving us was killing it. She was friendly, efficient and informative. Apparently they had some kitchen issues and had a limited menu but if the limited menu says anything it's that this place is serving gourmet food. We got the chicken pot pie and the stuffed shells. The homemade meat sauce on the shells could have been my Italian grandmas. I kept discovering delicious bits of different meats and it was divine. We also had the limoncello cake for dessert which was phenomenal. Support this local business, they deserve it! read more

I had the worst burger I have ever had in my life at the Ponderosa. It looked like they boiled the burger and let it touch the flat top for a half a second. It was grey and bubbly. I only took a few bites of the burger and ended up getting food poisoning from it along with a few other friend that ordered burgers too. read more

We had a steak (with a salad, soup and fingerling potatoes) with caramel walnut apple pie with whipped cream. My wife ate dessert, I ate the steak. My wife thought the pie was good and my steak as slightly under-seasoned but salt solved that problem. We stayed in the small town of Hulett, WY overnight on a longer road trip and had dinner at this great little restaurant. I had a steak, which was delicious, and the Hubs had one of their specials which was a Tri-Tip Bread bowl concoction with gravy that was also quite yummy. The have variety of beers on tap & in bottles/cans to choose from but there wasn't a printed menu of the beers so you can just tell the server what type of beer you like & they'll let you know what they have available to suit your taste. Service was great and the food came out fairly quickly. They had a nice variety on the menu ranging from sandwiches to steak & pasta, as well, so there is pretty much something for everyone. And they are right down the road from Devil's Tower, so you gotta check that place out! read more

We were staying overnight in Hulett and needed dinner. We stopped into the Ponderosa and were not disappointed. The server was very friendly and accommodating. We had a "mountain man" meatloaf which was a mix of beef, elk, bison, and wild boar. Dinners came with a salad and a cup of soup. I'm not sure I loved the meatloaf itself -- it was a little firm/dry -- probably because of the wild game being less fatty. All in all, a nice dinner. read more

Let me start by saying the service here was excellent. I clearly stick out like a sore thumb here, but the waitress was very nice to me, very, accommodating, and really made me feel welcome. Not that anyone else didn't, but she clearly went out of her way to make me feel comfortable there. I really appreciate that. However, I ordered my burger with a little pink inside and what I got was a hamburger that was half rare and a half medium well. I don't mind a juicy burger, but it was weird that the burger was literally half-and-half. Almost like one of the burners was off. The fries, well interesting looking, we're mainly burned. I appear to have gotten the last of the last fry order and all I got was a bunch of little pieces, not even soft enough to be potato chips. This was very disappointing. The reason I stopped here is because I was told that there was a very high-end chef from Detroit who ran his place and I would never leave disappointed. The burger was good, but lacks any seasoning and was cooked very unbalanced. The bird french fries really did it for me. I would expect that a real chef would be upset to see the quality of the food as it went out. I'm not a chef, but I've seen enough cooking shows to know that somebody should be checking the quality of the food before it leaves the back, and it clearly wasn't done. I want to believe that as opposed to this was done intentionally. I did not receive any negative vibes there nor do I think it was intentional, so I have to assume that somebody was just slipping back there. If you're coming out of the field after eating camp rations all day, I can certainly see that this will be a five-star experience. The quality control seems to really be lacking, and I think that a chef should keep their high standards no matter how big their venue is. Maybe next time I pass it through I'll try again read more

Okay, not much in Hulett, but this place was a godsend. On the basis of having Rangpur gin for a GnT on a hot day. How rare to even find in a big city bar and grill establishment. Im getting the battered walleye and my son is getting the bacon burger. Burger is outstanding and fresh. Blue cheese dressing is homemade. Fish is crispy and hot! Awesome experience. My wife and I finished a long day in the badlands and at devils tower. This was the perfect ending to the day! Hulett is a quaint rustic town and this local restaurant is a gem. I had a ribeye that was perfectly cooked and seasoned! A 10 for sure. My wife had an egg and Canadian bacon with cheese sandwich which was also excellent and large. This town, or at least this part of it, seemed almost deserted--we were hoping simply to find a place that was open and served something resembling food. We were thus surprised by the superb burgers. The 1/3 pound patties were thick, tasty, and juicy, requiring a fork and knife to eat. The fries were a shape I'd never seen before--sort of curved slices--and the coleslaw was also excellent. Although the hotel clerk warned us that most restaurants closed by 7 (something we had discovered to our chagrin in Custer, SD), this restaurant in apparently open until 9. A nice place for dinner before heading off for stargazing at Devils Tower. read more

This local bar in the small town of Hulett is just what we needed after camping for two weeks in a tent. We found Lois the bartender extraordinary. She knew her bar. They had an awesome selection of local crafted beers on tap. The decor was great decorated in excellent stickers with cool slogans. They had some neat curtains hand sown together with Crown Royal sacks. They had a neat bar dice game. We sat next to the town Mayor and his wife. Who were delightful. We only wanted to stop for one beer. But the owner, bartender and locals were such gems. We enjoyed the better of a rainy afternoon in their company. This is a true Oasis from miles around. Was looking for good a good dinner spot since we were staying in the area and we found what we were looking for! Friendly service and yummy food. They serve great takes on a lot of the classics. Really great food in the middle of nowhere. From the outside it looks like it's trying to be a old western saloon. When you step in it's filled with notty pine and staff is very welcoming. I did notice that most of the clientele appear to be local, however a few of us where tourists. The base menu is very pub like but the also have a huge special menu. We ordered beer and wings and then 4 full meals off the special board for all of us. Everything that came was fresh and delicious. Our server was great and prices where extremely reasonable. If you find your self by devils tower, make sure you find your way here as well as the food is just great! read more

There are not many choices in Hulett, Wyoming and after eating many meals on the road in Wyoming our expectations were not that high. Do not judge this restaurant on its decor. It looks simple and you might feel that the food will be the same. However, we were more than happily surprised with our meals. The salads were beautiful with fresh dark-green romaine lettuce. (Hard to find in this area of the state. Most salads we had up until then were basically white iceberg lettuce with dressing.) My wife had the chicken with portabello, asparagas, and tomato. Fantastic!! The kids meals were definitely above average. If you are driving to Devils Tower, don't pass this by. There is not much else and this will surpass your expectations. Enjoy. read more

The Ponderosa offers breakfast, lunch, dinner and has an attached bar as well for the nightlife. Right in the center of this sleepy town, I stopped for breakfast before my drive to the Badlands of South Dakota. Service was quick and especially friendly. I'm a decaf drinker and the waitress made a fresh pot so I wouldn't have to be drinking old coffee even though i was the only one in there and they weren't going to sell much coffee. We got to Hulett late and strolled in at 7:47 hoping for dinner and were told they were closing early for some reason. Though not obligated to do so, they sent us on our way with a couple of delicious prime rib dinners. Thank you so much for being accommodating. The only sad thing were the three other parties who came there while we waiting (in a course of less than ten minutes) who got turned away. My wife and I were blown away by the hospitality, reasonable prices, generous portions, and overall ambience of Ponderosa. Allow me to expand upon this thesis. We are talking about 2 ounce shots of Patron for less than you're paying for half that in a major city; beer-battered pike that hearkens back to the lakes of Minnesota in terms of preparation and execution; 10 ounces of filet mignon tips in a bed of greens and shaved cheeses that is truly enough for two. 60+ bottles and 15+ drafts. $3 mixed drinks. Vintage decor. Clean restrooms. In a town of fewer than 400 people. If you are taking in Devils Tower, the Black Hills Forest, the Sturgis Rally, or merely enjoying one of America's most beautiful places, you owe it to yourself to visit Ponderosa, possibly before bagging a sixer of craft beer for less than $12. Awesome burgers. They aren't kidding with the 100% Angus Beef. Ordered mine medium and it was perfect. All the fixin's - tomato, lettuce, onion, cheese - perfectly seared and on a fresh, durable bun. Traveling often around the country I always make sure to go to the Ponderosa when in the Devil's Tower area. The whole experience is great, it sits in the quant town of Hulett WY which is 9 miles from Devil's Tower. They offer a cafe in the front of you'd like to sit at a table with a group or bar and table seating in the back where there is also a patio you can dine / drink on. The staff is always great and friendly and if you have a chance to talk to the chef / owner you're in for a real treat. Great menu, food is always good and huge selection of beer and liquor. What a nice find!! We were in the area to see Devil's Tower and stopped here for dinner. Victoria was our server, and she was so fun!!!! We got onion rings as an appetizer and they were delicious! Nice and crunchy with the right amount of batter. I got the fried cod, which was very good. My husband got the pork fritter, which he enjoyed. The fries are different- they are curvy and small, but have a lot of flavor. We liked the Riesling so much that we bought a bottle to take back to our hotel room. The specials all sounded good, and if we ever go back to Hulett we will stop back here. read more

This place was a surprise. We were a party of 6 and they seated and served us quickly. I had the Elk burger and it was huge and delicious! My friends had the Walleye, which was basically gourmet fish sticks. Everyone loved the food. Definitely try the daily specials, they usually have like 8 of them. read more

Late review. Came here for dinner on Sat May 12, 2018 when we were in town visiting Devil's Tower. Their food was surprisingly good. My wife had the Chicken Alfredo Penne from their daily special menu, and I had the steak sandwich. The Chicken Alfredo had a rich sauce that reminded me of the mac and cheese from Beecher's Handmade Cheese in Seattle, except even richer. The steak sandwich was exceptional, as well. Their Chicken Alfredo is one of the best dishes I've tasted in a while. read more

This place has some pretty good food. The decor could be a little better. But I would imagine that you are like me and you don't go to restaurants to check out the decor. In fact, the word decor might not be used in Hulett, Wyoming all that often. Or ever. Then again, I am the guy using the word decor right now. So I don't know what that says about me. All that said, I bought a pretty cool shirt from this place and I wore it last week. It was nice and comfortable and worth the drive back from Devil's Tower just to go get it. I mean, it was kind of worth it. It was also kind of weird that I felt like I had to have it so badly that we drove back for it. But we did it. I have a very flexible brother. With regard to his temperament, not his physical flexibility. I am unaware of his limberness but I would imagine it to be sub-par. read more
