i've been going to Ponte's for years, and they have never let me down. Good service, good food, friendly waitresses.

When going from Houston to Abilene, after visiting family, we stopped in Fairfield to get a bite. A friendly sheriff said that Ponte's Diner was a good place to eat. After reading the reviews I ordered the chips and salsa with a small scoop of guacamole. They had a rather extensive menu but my husband ordered a senior dinner of one taco with Spanish rice and retried beans. The chips and salsa were good. The salsa appeared to be a mild flavor, but I noticed there was some spice that picked up as you ate it. My husband said his meal was also good. The service was great and the young man that waited on us was friendly and polite. We will definitely keep this place in mind for another stop on our next visit. read more

We stopped here for a quick lunch on the way to Galveston, didn't look like much from outside, but had a lot of cars in the parking lot, so we gave it a try. Glad we did. First thing I noticed inside was how clean the place was and all the waitress/waiters dressed alike. The menu is huge. The three of us all had something different, I had the fajita nacho's and they were wonderful. Quick friendly service and sweet tea! Husband and I just stopped for lunch due to the good reviews. It is a cute local diner with a lot of ice cream. Maybe we ordered the wrong thing? we ordered a chicken fried chicken to split as we didn't want to travel with any leftovers, and literally every chicken fried chicken we have ever ordered was enormous and could never be finished. We informed the waitress we were splitting the meal but got no warning as to how absolutely tiny this thing was. I am usually shocked by how large portions are and never am able to finish a meal. No problem with this meal though, the CFC was the size of a hamburger patty and had too much breading. I was shocked, not only by how small and thin it was, but that the waitress did not advise us of the size when we mentioned that we would be sharing?! That is a very important job of a waitperson. This food was very average and nothing special. Can't say I would go back, even the tea tasted bad, probably due to water quality. Maybe try the enchiladas and ice cream? Very Disappointed - left hungry and disgusted. After reading the reviews I was looking forward to a great meal. Well, that didn't happen! When we walked in there was a large party seated right at the front door. They were the only table in the restaurant yet were set up right at the front door. We had to awkwardly make our way around them as we were told FROM ACROSS THE ROOM to seat ourselves. It was a challenge to find a clean table. The floors were filthy and there was food spattered on several booth seats. There were several people standing around, that appeared to work there, but nobody was doing any cleaning! We were starving so I tried to overlook the trash and tried to convince myself that a party of 40 toddlers must have just left a mess seconds before we arrived! Then I noticed that the TV had a program on that was so disturbing I had no choice but to leave. On our way out a man behind the counter with his arms crossed said, "Goodbye!" very sarcastically. We stopped and ate a late dinner on our way north. The majority of their offerings were fattening and fried. The waitress offered to bring us chips and salsa, and after my son said yes I noticed they costed $3.95. They were fair. I opted for a grilled chicken salad which to my disappointment arrived covered in approximately a package of shredded cheddar cheese. My son had the chicken fajitas which were a good portion and were much more appetizing than my cheese salad, but the tortillas were not fresh and he said they were only "okay." We were so lucky to stop in here on our way back from our vacation. We couldn't agree on what kind of food we wanted to eat so we finally settled on this small diner and boy were we surprised. The menu has a variety of options (Tex-mex to traditional american) and there are some good looking milkshakes on the menu. I got the buffalo chicken sandwich with fries which was pretty good. The fries, if anything, stood out (curly fries forever!) but the sandwich itself earns 3 stars. It's a nice spot to come for lunch, the food takes about 10-15 mins to come out. We stopped at this diner on our way to Galveston. When we walked in it was packed, we found a corner booth, and were immediately greeted by a waitress. The menu features dishes you would expect at a diner: hamburgers, sandwiches, salads, but they also have many Mexican dishes as well. I had the chicken fajitas, which were big enough for 2 people, and they came with chips and salsa. I loved that they had an old fashioned soda fountain that you can sit at, as well as, sodas, shakes, ice creams and other sweet treats. I was totally disgusted! They had "Whipped Spread" instead of real butter. Other than that, this place is awesome. This place looks a feels like a diner should. They even have a soda fountain! We were greeted immediately upon walking in the door. Our waitress (Haylee) came to our table quickly, brought us menus and got our drinks. She was very friendly. We chose two Tex-Mex dishes. Haylee brought us chips and hot sauce while we waited for our food, which was served fairly quickly, It looked great, and smelled better. The guacamole was fresh and green, and had small chunks of avocado in it. I like that, because you know it is fresh, made-in-store guac. It had a wonderful, flavor of lime, garlic, tomato, onion, and of course, avocado. The taco and enchilada I ate had the perfect amount of spice. The lettuce, cheese and tomato on the taco were fresh. The beans were the perfect refried variety. And, the Mexican rice was the best I have ever had. My wife had a chicken, bean and cheese burrito. It was so big, she had to take part of it home with us. We ate so much, it was hard to stay awake on the drive home. This place has a wide variety of offerings, from burgers to sandwiches to salads, to Tex-Mex. The service is great. The prices are reasonable. We will definitely be back to try some of the other items on the menu. read more

We stopped in on our way home from Galveston for lunch. The food was fantastic. Eight of us ate our fill and had drinks for less than $90. My dad raved that his patty melt was the best he's had in a while. My enchiladas were as good as my favorite authentic Mexican restaurant. We give this restaurant 4 stars since we are comparing this location against other locations in this small town of Fairfield. Pulled into the parking lot and the lot was full mostly of pick up trucks, therefore we had some ideal what to expect. SAs we entered nearly every table was full, however our waitress waited on us very quickly. Ordered the fried catfish platter and the fish was rolled in a coating that as very good. The fires were OK. The price was excellent as was the tea. Can't beat this place for a good meal at a reasonable or price. We noticed several round us had ordered a mexican plate. The chips and salsa looked very tempting. Service was fast and efficient. read more

Friendly service & good fresh food. The coffee was topped off regularly & the atmosphere was calm. Several locals arrived in & out throughout our sitting. Once our meal came (western omelette & ham/eggs with pancakes) it was hot, fresh & delicious. The pancakes were fluffy & soft. The omelette was filled with veggies & hearty deliciously flavored ham. The fresh homemade salsa was flavorful & had a nice 'kick' to it. Being from California, salsa must be fresh, spicy & flavorful - and this Texas salsa was definitely good! The meals were fairly priced for the portions. The place appears to be a little out-dated & doesn't smell as good as I prefer diners to smell like, but the restroom was very clean & maintained.
