What a pleasant surprise this little spot turned out to be! Located in a small town near Rainbow Ranch Campground, this restaurant was the perfect place to stop for a meal before my friends and I headed our separate ways after a wonderful weekend. From the moment we walked in, we felt welcome. Our waitress was absolutely fantastic--friendly, attentive, and one of those people who makes your dining experience even better. I wish I had caught her name because she deserves a shoutout! Don't come expecting anything fancy. Instead, expect to feel like you're among friends. The atmosphere is comfortable, relaxed, and unpretentious. As for the food, it was phenomenal. I wish I could remember the name of my dish, but it featured grilled chicken, mushrooms, and onions, and it was absolutely delicious. Even the rice and beans impressed me--and that's saying something because I don't typically eat either one! Great food, great service, and a welcoming small-town feel. This is the worst Mexican food I've ever eaten. They charged me $50 for food that didn't even taste as good as a microwave TV dinner. There was a bug in my water. The chips were stale. My family of 4 decided to eat here last minute for dinner a few weeks ago. When we arrived it didn't seem to be too busy. There were maybe 4 tables with small groups waiting for their food and several more already eating. We ordered within 10 minutes of arrival. Our order wasn't complicated, we had two kids menu items and two entrees. At the time of our order I overheard a neighboring table asking the waitress how much longer they'd be waiting for their food which should've been a red flag. We waited over an hour after ordering for our food. We arrived around 6:30 and didn't get our order until 8:00. There were multiple tables that were seated after us with larger groups who received their food before us. I asked the waitress politely several times if there was an issue and how much longer the wait would be and she told me the kitchen was really busy. I have two younger children. It's not easy keeping them entertained and patient for extended periods, especially when they're hungry. They're pretty well behaved, but the long wait was not enjoyable. At approximately 8:00 I contemplated canceling the order and just eating at home because it was my kids' bed time. I asked the waitress if we could get the food to go. She told me my order was just about finished and I politely requested they pack the food in to go containers. Within 5 minutes they had the food packed up and I paid at the front counter. I did not get a receipt, but the two entrees (around $12-$15 a piece) and the kids' meals without drinks or any sides cost over $50. I'm pretty sure I was overcharged, but at this point I just wanted to leave. We live less than 5 minutes away. When we arrived home we found several of the dishes were cold. Not lukewarm, actually cold. It was obvious that the food had been sitting for an extended period of time before we requested to get it packed to go. My daughter ordered a grilled cheese sandwich. Her dish was cold as well, and she found several pieces of raw onion on the sandwich, which was not supposed to come with onions and we made no special requests. That makes me concerned about kitchen cleanliness and cross contamination. My burrito was bone dry and did not have queso which I paid extra for. It was also very cold and did not come with any rice or beans like it was supposed to. My wife told me her dish was cold and bland as well. We've eaten here in the past and had decent experiences. This time was way different. It was a miserable dining experience and I don't believe we will eat here again. The food quality is sub par. Questionable food handling/food safety standards. The food is overpriced for what you're getting. The staff seemed untrained or unable to handle the slightest rush which is why I believe we waited so long. The only positive aspect of our visit was that the waitress was polite. We only interacted with her two or three times, but she seemed to be trying her best. Management needs to train their staff better and get the kitchen squared away if they want to retain business. Sad to say because I want to enjoy eating at this small local establishment, but I can't justify more than 2 starts. I would really give it a 1.5 but for yelp I'll round up to 2 stars. read more

The food was good. The margaritas were awful, looked like a glass of antifreeze. Clearly a premade mix from a bottle, not sure there was any tequila in it. Stick with bottled beer. When entering you are hit with a blast of tobacco smell from the bar. It is not as bad in the dining room, but the scent still lingers. My husband and I ate here while staying nearby on the lake, and we were very pleased with everything. For starters, the chips and salsa were very good, my sangria was refreshing, and my husband's beer was nice and cold. I am a vegetarian, but I ordered the Tacos Gusto (build you own tacos) knowing my husband would take my corn cup of meat. When the food came out, it looked so fresh and was absolutely beautifully presented. Then when we tasted it, it was sooooo good! It tasted as good as it looked. We just stopped here on our way thru town and it was great! Family owned restaurant for 26 years they said. My husband had the chalupa burger and he loved it. LARGE beef patty with a bean and cheese chalupa and fresh pico in it. Came with freshly made crispy fries and he couldn't finish it all. I ordered Rita's chicken and shrimp and it was wonderful. Grilled chicken on a bed of mexican rice topped with fresh pico and 5 good size grilled shrimp and on the side a good size dollop of guacamole.. also came with ranchero beans seasoned with bacon. And fresh corn or flour tortillas. Needless to say I had to get a To Go box. Don't eat too many complimentary chips and salsa. Service was great, very friendly and attentive. We stopped along our vacation route. Glad we did. Had the torta with french fries. Torta was humongous with so many ingredients and the fries were very, very crispy the way I like them. Wish I had taken a picture of the torta- enough for 3 and it was just for me. Lots of leftover for the very inexpensive price. Wife had the burrito and she ate it all. I also love that on Sunday- Thursday they are open until 9 p.m. and on Fridays and Saturdays they are open until 9:30 p.m. Los Pepes have a very friendly staff. It is really hard to find a good Texmex or mexican food place here, but these people do not even try. Surprise in Groesbeck, TX. Out for a group camping trip and decided we needed some Tex-Mex. We drove over from Fort Parker SP only 7-8 miles down the road. What a pleasant surprise the staff were friendly and the food was really good. The chips & salsa not anything spectacular but did taste fresh. My wife and friends shared a pitcher of Sangria and while it looked really dark they said it was great. I ordered the Burrito with queso with fajita beef wow it was fantastic. Beef skirt steak was perfectly seasoned and tender, Yes tender and all beef no filler beans, rice, onions or green peppers just mounds of beef in a tortilla covered in queso...YUMMO! My wife ordered the street tacos on corn tortillas came with same tender skirt steak covered with onion & cilantro very tasteful. Service was good especially for group our size when came time to pay it was as if they never wanted us to leave so it took us a while to get all settled up..granted our group consisted 12 adults & 7 kids. read more

Stopped yesterday for a bite before heading back to the campsite and was quite pleased. The service was perfect, the owner/manager came over just to say hi and welcome us. We split a large guacamole which was super chunky, fresh and yum. The queso with ground beef was super creamy but could have used a kick of spicy. The Pepe wings though stole the show. Chicken breast stuffed with a ton of cheese and fresh beautiful jalapeño then wrapped all around like a ball of happy and deep fried! Childhood Favorite. I used to come to the Los Pepe's in Marlin, Texas for years and years. Unfortunately, the Los Pepe's there is gone, but stumbling upon the one in Groesbeck brought back all of those sweet memories. Plus, the food is still just as incredible as well.
