We walked in to Pony Club hoping to grab a warm tea and beer after walking around in the cold night air. We were greeted by a friendly server named Sara (hopefully, I recalled her name correctly). Before we were seated, I asked if they had hot herbal tea and she said they definitely did. Although hot tea wasn't part of the bar menu, she went out of her way to accommodate my request. She even had to get the hot water from the hotel. She was so sweet! The bar lounge wasn't overly large but they did their best to accommodate their patrons. Before we finished our drinks. some new patrons walked in and they had to be turned away since the lounge area was already filled. We kept our visit short so they could accommodate more patrons. I'm sure the food they offered would have been delicious but we had already eaten dinner. The sticky toffee pudding sounded like it would have been wonderful! Perhaps we'll be able to stop for dinner or a casual bite to eat next time we're in Paso Robles! I hope others enjoy their visit with Sara and the other staff at Pony Club too! read more

We spent a night at Hotel Cheval and visited the Pony Club Bar for both pre-dinner drinks and breakfast, the latter of which was included with our stay. The bar is connected to the hotel and open to the public between 4 and 9PM. It's a charming spot with a nice patio and a cozy interior. The vibe is more bar than restaurant, but there's a pretty substantial food menu. We walked in around 6:30 on the Sunday night of Presidents' Day weekend, when I gather the whole town was packed with visitors. The place was busy, and we were kind of left to seat ourselves at one of the patio tables. Service was mostly fine, fast and friendly enough, but our waiter seemed confused when we asked to get our table wiped down. It wasn't filthy, but there was a used cocktail pick right in front of me. We only stopped in for a round, and the drinks were decent. I got the In-a-Pickle Martini with Aviation gin, dry vermouth, and pickle brine. Not as savory and delicious as I hoped, but easy to drink. My husband got the Hazy Days of Winter Old Fashioned, made with Rod & Hammer winter whiskey, black walnut bitters, and cinnamon-nutmeg simple syrup. It tasted like Christmas. Breakfast was great, though that's only relevant if you're staying at the hotel. All-you-can-eat menu, but you sit down and place an order. Service was speedy and polite. I had smoked salmon, scrambled eggs, avocado toast, and a fruit cup with orange and grapes. I enjoyed sitting at the bar and sipping on my latte. I liked the Pony Club Bar and would recommend it whether or not you're staying at Hotel Cheval. It's a cute place for a round or two in the middle of downtown Paso Robles. read more

Cute and cozy bar tucked down a side street near the park in Paso. I went twice with different companions. First, we choose an inside table near a closed French door. Some poor little bees kept flying into the room and getting stuck buzzing up and down the panes, trying to get out. They left us alone however. Our drinks were good and the stuffed jalapeño poppers were delicious! Four big poppers. Yum The second time I visited, my group sat outside at a tabletop. We just ordered cocktails-done well again. At first, we thought this place was some kind of a private equestrian club. It's not! It's a hotel, with a restaurant and bar. We decided to return later that day for drinks, and I'm so glad we did! The service was extremely friendly and fast, the drinks were amazing, and the food was delicious! We had the cheese plate, and it was beautiful and tasty. The live music was also excellent! I definitely recommend a visit. I'm just really sad that we didn't get the chance to have dessert there. read more

Mom & I stumbled upon the Pony Club because we heard the live holiday music and it was the absolute best find!! Kiki took wonderful care of us and gave us the best suggestions including, the candy cane espresso martini and deviled eggs! Hotel Cheval is a great experience. The Pony Club is the bar downstairs and it has a wonderful ambience, both inside and out. My friends and I stopped there for a small meal of hors d'oeuvres, grilled cheese sandwiches and soup along with some really awesome wines and cocktails ... we sat outside underneath the beautiful lights. if you want to sit inside, the bar is beautiful and in a horseshoe shape which goes with the whole theme. I have stayed here before and the rooms are incredible. The prices are very steep, but nothing in Paso Robles is cheap anymore. BTW the servers were wonderful!! read more

We have been to Pony Club twice in the last couple of months. Our experience was 100% positive and enjoyable. My husband and I were thrilled to hear about the reopening of the Pony Club, post-pandemic. We just went on a Friday night, to find live music as early as 5:00 p.m. The artist was Emily Smith, who has an amazing voice and appears to be a recurring act on their calendar for the near future. It was already crowded by the time we arrived at 5:15, with no outdoor seating (luckily a table opened up about 5-10 later). There is an indoor bar and a few tables inside also, but we love the ambiance of sitting outside (weather permitting), where they have wonderful lighting and many outdoor heaters. We were pleased to see they now offer craft cocktails as well as wine, beer and cider. They continue to have a limited food menu. We ordered their trio of sliders, which have the option of adding a salad or fries, at additional cost. I opted to not add a side (to save room for dessert), but my husband added fries. We both loved the sliders, which came with bacon, cheese and arugula. They had a nice spicy taste to them, but not so heavy-handed for those who cannot handle spicy foods. The sliders were pretty filling, so this dish could likely be split for two people, for those with lighter appetites and a desire to try dessert. The sticky toffee pudding was AMAZING and totally worth the calories. I hope this stays on their menu, as it is SO good!! I kept my drinks in the rum group with their Spiked Chai, followed by the Christmas Campfire. The Chai came in a coupe style glass and was very yummy, the sweeter of the two drinks for sure. I could drink this cocktail every night! The Christmas Campfire came on the rocks in a highball glass, with a toasted marshmallow on a drink skewer. It was less sweet and more strong as a cocktail, definitely more of a 'sipping' drink when compared to the Spiked Chai--still very good though. My husband had his usual Old-Fashioned , which he enjoyed also. The service was friendly and attentive. Their outside patio is dog friendly, and their schedule implies that live music may be scheduled for both Fridays and Saturdays. The patio rocks! We enjoyed happy hour under a nice canopy of trees on the patio. Note...dog friendly! Located right off the town square and adjacent to Hotel Cheveral. Very friendly staff and quite attentive I must say. Just great service! We enjoyed some appetizers of caprese with heirloom tomatoes and hummus and pita. Both were excellent and i reccomend. They have local wines available. I had a local craft brewery IPA though. It hit the spot on a warm afternoon. The bathrooms were spotless and were Jen G approved. Nice place to enjoy happy hour on a weekday. It is conveniently located just off the main square. It's connected to the Hotel Cheval. We enjoyed two appetizers of caprese salad and hummus and it was good. They feature a local winery for tastings. We opted out of this since we had been wine tasting earlier. Though, hubby did have an IPA to quench his thirst. The service was very good. We had three attentive servers waiting on us. It's comfortable seating on the outside patio, with the large oak tree as the main focal point. And it's dog friendly. The only thing to note is that there is no breeze that flows through the patio and it got a little hot on this warm and muggy evening we were there. Perhaps a strategically placed fan would help. We have stopped in this bar a few times-most notably last year we came by with another couple. Our friend was asking the server questions about the hotel and just joking around like he does and the server was so over it, rude and at one point just walked away. I get that customers can get obnoxious but our friend was just making conversation and not rude at all. This kind is service is uncalled for. We have been treated a little rudely previously as well-I guess because we were not guests at the hotel but merely paying customers in the bar there-how dare us! read more

We came here for happy hour (4-6pm) on a Friday afternoon around 5pm. It wasn't busy at all. I came to think that Paso Robles is quite a quiet town. There's both inside and outside seating. There was someone singing live outside on the patio area. We ordered the cheese torte for only $8, a sparkling wine flight for $21, and a glass of chardonnay to share. The cheese torte was amazing! It had some vegetables in it, bunch of different kinds of crackers, and 3 kinds of cheese. The waiter was nice and let us taste a sauvignon blanc to see if we liked it or not. Problem here is the hours- they say they are open until 9pm, but they close the entrance at 8:30pm even though there are still folks at the bar. So if you were able to get in, they are basically cleaning up around you while you're having your nightcap. I saw some regulars come in at 8:45pm and they said they would not serve. I absolutely love the ambiance of the Pony Club bar. They have the cutest outdoor seating area that is absolutely beautiful in the evening when the hanging lights and heaters are turned on. We had great service and the food/wine was nice as well. We came here for live music to have a relaxing evening after wine tasting all day. The only drawback is they charge $15/person minimum when there is live music. You're going to end up spending that amount anyway, but in our situation, it was really disappointing because the musician took a break as soon as we got there and didn't start back up until almost an hour later when we were getting ready to leave. We would have ordered more and stayed longer if we got to hear the music. read more

After a Saturday of wine tasting and road tripping, my friends and I were thoroughly exhausted and eager for a snack (or glass of Prosecco in the case of my roommates). Pony Club had two things going for it - it was open and had a happy hour that lasted till 7 (5-7pm daily). It was quite packed when we arrived around 6:15 and we enjoyed a seat at their plush bar. The wine bar is located in the Hotel Cheval and has a quaint feel, like you are at a fancy farmhouse that's been making their own wine since the 1800s. My friend and I shared the $7 (happy hour price) cheese torte, which was a unique blend of cheeses, pesto and sundried tomato. When I imagined our cheese torte and crackers I somehow believed it would be served warm. Unfortunately, this was not the case. The dish was still pleasant enough but I would probably not order it again, although it was satisfying as a happy hour/post-wine snack. Our waiter at the Hatch told us to check this place out for a Friday evening. It was my husband's birthday so we went to have dessert. There was an acoustic guitar player outside, we were told to sit wherever but outside was a $15 minimum order per person for the live music. We opted to do that since we knew we would hit it, but it did seem a little silly to me especially since the musician took a break and left right in the middle of us sitting. We finally got to try this local spot in Paso Robles and enjoyed this place! It is attached to a boutique hotel and has a nice patio out in front. We stopped by for happy hour where they had $3 beers! Even better.. they had Lost Coast Great White! Perfect after a day of wine tasting. They also have a good small bites menu where we tried the margarita pizza and enjoyed it. Service was also great.. here is why it gets 5 stars. A chef from the hotel kitchen came out and offered us freshly made smores with a choice of chocolate and homemade marshmallow... excellent service and is now one of our favorite spots in Paso! OK, my three stars are for the food. However, I think that anyone visiting Paso Robles should visit this hotel and restaurant and bar. To be fair I have never eaten dinner here so I do not know the quality of their full meals. They have a great happy hour and so far, of the food we have eaten here the cheese and salami plate has been the best thing going. I get the feeling that they really want to rise above the local fair and be exquisite. However, they are missing the mark on the quality of the food. Tonight we shared the meatballs and linguine specialty plate. For $14 we received a salad bowl with linguine and two medium size meatballs. The meatballs were OK. I really think they need to master a fabulous marinara to go with this dish. I absolutely hate pasta with chunks of stewed tomato in it. My husband and I travel a lot so maybe it is not fair to judge them not on there are meatballs but we've had some pretty freaking awesome meatballs in our travels and this is not one of them. I believe, as with many small town restaurants, the chefs that they hire are either local or are not shafts that periodically visit the big city. I think that they could benefit from visiting restaurants like this go far in Los Angeles if they are going to feature a meatball on their plate or even visiting some of the restaurants in Las Vegas. I think that Paso Robles is an up-and-coming destination location and they have this incredibly beautiful hotel which attracts visitors with a nice price tag. The food needs to match the price tag of the rooms. On a more positive notes they have the most gracious and accommodating staff in the bar. Their patio is amazing and is what keeps us coming back. We would just like to be able to eat here and enjoy the food. If you love wine, this is a great restaurant for you. The bartenders and waiters know a lot about the local wines and will educate you so that you receive a wine that you love. I cannot complain about the service at all. They are wonderful. While staying at Hotel Cheval, we loved sitting on the patio under the trees enjoying a nice glass of wine and snacking on one of the appetizers. The staff was fun and friendly, service was excellent. They have a large selection of local wines and are happy to tell you where to find the wineries if you want to head out and explore one that you enjoyed the wine. Friends and I stopped by the Pony Club to have a glass of wine following dinner on a Friday night. It was a little after 8:00 when we arrived at the bar. We were quickly told by the bartender that he would be closing soon, so if we were planning to order a bottle we've have to drink it fast. At abruptly 9:00 we were told that we needed to finish our drinks because the bar was closed. By 9:05 our unfinished glasses were then picked up from the table and removed. Now we all know that at times overly served people can linger too long and be annoying, but this was not the case. The bartender and staff that worked that night were inexcusably rude. At first glance, Hotel Cheval's boutique-looking sweet atmosphere made this adjacent bar look cozy. After reading the reviews, I was looking forward to the multiple outdoor fireplace sitting areas! But when we walked in to the bar's wide open door at 4:30pm, we were met with a server's semi-icy "we're not open til 5". Then when we wandered out the door to see the fireplace areas that I had read about in the other reviews, two other women asked us to wait on the outside patio for the bar to open and literally escorted two of my friends to said patio. Mind you, all we were doing was looking at one of the outside fireplace sitting areas, which were accessible through the wide open gates that led to the bar area, so it's not like we were even remotely trespassing or causing a stir of any kind. Hm. Ok, sooo the space is warm-feeling but the humans that work here are not. Service didn't warm up when they finally opened and we were seated either. Rather than endure another moment of iciness, we passed on the small menu offerings here and walked down the street to Thomas Hill Organics. After the icy reception here, I'd think twice about staying in the hotel too - however charming it appears. read more
