This is a neighborhood favorite! We often order takeout, but you can also easily pop in for a quick dinner. The space is small but inviting and warm and love all the plants. Our favorites to order are the spring rolls with shrimp and peanut sauce, the Karee Gai with a side of rice, the Kai Kua is incredible and you can never go wrong 3 flavors chicken. Its a cute small place with beautiful plants. The vibe is relaxing and cozy. The staff are old fashioned. Meaning, this is how a restaurant used to treat their customer. Kind, friendly and fast. Feels like a king. Food. I like the taste of the food here. Salad with peanut dressing is refreshing a tad sweet but good. I ordered pumpkin long beans garlic with purple rice. Love the taste. Its easy to eat and I found a new favorite. However, the pumpkin is either microwaved too long or something that make it chewy and not fresh tasted. But it still very good overall. Overall from my initial experience, Exotic Thai is a middle of the road kind of Thai restaurant. The food had its and misses & at this point there are so many competitors serving fabulous Thai food in the 805 I am not sure this spot would be high on my list to revisit. My review is on the shorter side as I only ordered take out from this establishment. Wasn't able to assess for vibes, decor, or staff. I will give credit that my order was packaged correctly and sealed nice and firmly to make this a good spot to order out from. It's hard to travel with soup but it was tightly sealed and made it from point A to B. The reason for three stars is my experience was about right in the middle. For the price it didn't fully live up to my hopes for the flavors and such but there were some good bites. 4 stars is their pad see ew. I ordered the chicken protein for mine (mainly because beef & shrimp were a hefty up charge). The noodles were really good and the sauce had good flavor. The chicken was cooked well and I appreciate there was a good amount of egg in this dish as some places skimp. Overall a good pad see ew dish. 2 stars was the Tom kha noodle soup. Sadly, this was one of the blandest Tom kha's I've ever had. There was really no flavor or nice kick....it was a really disappointing dish actually as I haven't had one this lackluster in a while. On top of the soup already being kind of flavorless the noodles were a little too underdone for my taste and the shrimps were smaller than other Thai spots. Pretty meh dish and I definitely wouldn't get this again. While the pad see ew was good there are a handful of other spots serving really good pad see ew and then some....can't give above a 3 when only half of my order was tasty. Hopefully this is a good Thai spot of the locals but I'll likely pass the next time I'm craving some Thai. read more

Exotic Thai Cafe has been my go to restaurant whenever I'm in the Thousand Oaks area. The restaurant itself is on the small side with a nice ambiance. Their lunch combos are reasonably priced and their food is always solid. My side salad was fresh and I love their tasty peanut sauce. The egg rolls are on the other hand just ok and I can do without. The Thai Basil Tofu was perfectly seasoned and very tasty and had a nice kick to it! Hands down one of the best Thai restaurants in Thousand Oaks, imho. Cons: Charges $2 for adding Bamboo shoots. Another turnoff is their seating benches which are faux leather, badly torn and cheaply fixed with clear tape. read more

I got my order to go. I thought it was cooked in a timely manner. The guy at the register was very kind. I liked the taro boba smoothie. Very tasty. My food was a bit bland. Kind of unfortunate. I came here for a team lunch with my colleagues. It's overall a solid place for Thai food in the Newbury Park area. Parking is plentiful, since it's located in a large plaza. We were immediately seated, and I took a look at their specials menu. The Pumpkin Curry sounded interesting, so I ordered it along with a Thai Iced Tea. The Thai Iced Tea was very refreshing, and I finished it within minutes. The Pumpkin Curry was pretty good, but doesn't surpass my love for standard Yellow Curry. The pumpkin pieces tasted a little off with the red curry and peppers, but it was still worth a try! The place is on the smaller side, with a more cozy ambiance. Not a bad place for meals with teammates or close friends. While I prefer getting Thai food in the OC area, Exotic Thai is not a bad option if you find yourself with a craving for Thai food. read more

I love coming around different holidays because the go all out with the decorations. I also like that I can eat indoors and outdoors. I ordered via doordash and as it turns out the business decided to close that day from 3-4 without notifying the delivery service it partners with. I waited in the parking lot for one hour. When they finally opened I told them I had ordered an hour ago online, but saw that they were closed during that time. They simply said, "well we are here now", then made we wait 30 min for my food. I was still polite and said thank you, they just gave me a blank stare. I understand miscommunications happen, but an apology is the bare minumum I would expect in that situation and there is so much more they could have done. The pad thai was edible but the flavor was not strong or curated enough for me. Noodles were good consistency, vegetables were average. A friend suggested it, based on her experience, so one day, happened to be driving right by in and ... we spontaneously decided to try it. This is one of our favorite places to go in Newbury Park. There's a few exotic thai throughout the area. My favorite one is the one on Ventura and fallbrook because that's the first one I went to but I also like the one in agura and love the one in Newbury Park. The staff at Newbury Park and West hills are so friendly. The servers have remembered me in my family throughout the years and make us feel special when we come to eat. I'd like to come down here on Valentine's Day because for some reason a lot of people order to go orders but don't dine in the restaurant so you can get a table right away and excellent service. They are also open a little later than other places so you can get a fantastic meal after 9:00 p.m. We always get the Thai spicy chicken with medium spice it goes so good with white rice I also like the jungle Curry because it does not have coconut milk, the fried rice is amazing, and who doesn't like a thai iced tea. Stopped for lunch with my mom a few months ago and really enjoyed it! Unfortunately they weren't able to make us boba drinks when we went but that's okay. We split spring rolls - my mom picked chicken ones which definitely isn't a fav of mine (I would've preferred veggie). They were my least favorite thing we got. Well, I've completed the event. Go to all Exotic Thai restaurants in the area. That's the goal. A second goal would be to go to Ojai and the Woodland Hills locations. But for now, I've completed the task: Westlake Village, Agoura Hills, Thousand Oaks, and finally, this one in Newbury Park. (note: Camarillo is long gone) Located in the Kohl's parking lot alongside Chipotle, Sharky's, Pickles, and a Starbuck's, its clientele -- locals and a lot of take-out orders, and definitely skews an older crowd. Yep, this is far from a night club environment. (Although, the were playing overhead a very bad Thai pop/rock band called "Lom Tung Yeun"). A small location, a small dining room and one other teeny tiny one. The same menu as the rest of the locations. The gf and I got two items, and one item "to go": ===================== 1. Kiew Wan (Green Curry) with Beef [$12, 4.0 stars] -- some veggies (mostly bamboo shoots) and decent beef, just not as tender as it could've been, and an amazing green curry that bumps the rating up. 2. Pad Thai with Chicken [$11, 4.5 stars] -- totally delicious. Recommended. 3. Pineapple Fried Rice [$14, 2.5 stars] -- unsweetened pineapple chunks along with one piece of BBQ Pork, one shrimp, and 4 pieces of chicken. Overall, boring and overpriced for the little meat I was given. Service: ======= ...was nice, but was scarce and could be improved. A young girl was the only server. Food used to be great at this place. This has been our favorite Thai restaurant for many years but the quality has gone way down. We got the Tom Ka Gai soup which is what we always get and this time the taste was terrible. Chicken was tough. Mushrooms were just ordinary type. I know we have inflation and everything costs more. We are fine with paying more but not ok with paying for low quality food. We may try this place one more time to see if the quality improves. It's such a shame. I really hope the owners see this post and make some improvements. It's hard to find good Thai food. read more
