I wanted to come here as I've read a lot reviews saying that they were really good. I got the Thai iced tea and a combo that they had where you pick an entree and tom yum soup too. I ordered five stars for my pad kee mao and I don't think you can pick the spiciness of the soup. It took some time to receive the food but I don't mind, especially if the food was good. However, the food was just meh. It wasn't anything memorable really. I appreciated the wok fire taste from the pad kee mao but that was really it, it wasn't really that spicy and the flavors that I expected weren't there. The soup was also disappointing with no depth or flavor. The Thai iced tea was okay as well, again nothing to really make it memorable or worth grabbing again. The service was courteous and friendly. They also ensured that the food was packed securely so no spills and it traveled well to my boyfriend and I's hotel room. read more

Thai food continues to be my go-to choice for Asian food in Portland, and this place didn't disappoint either. I tried the pumpkin curry, which was very rich in taste and had a nice blend of sweet and savory flavors. The 3/5 spice level offered the right amount of heat combined with the pumpkin curry flavor. This is a food truck, and they have nowhere to sit but we walked to a nearby food cart park ~2 min away with seating and ate there. Wow let me tell you I'm embarrassed to say the number of times I've drove 25 minutes just to get the coffee here because I love it THAT much. My partner loves the Thai tea as well. Super close to PSU so a great stop between classes or if you're just downtown for the day. I can't wait to try the food as well. The staff is always very friendly as well! A tasty little Thai food cart located right next to PSU that serves up some delicious curries! They're only open during the daytime, so probably best for lunch hours. For the price of the food and also the great taste, value really is unbeatable. The folks who run it are very sweet and we got our food super quickly. I was able to enjoy it during the lunch hour with plenty of time to spare. I got the Pumpkin Curry with Tofu which was SO. GOOD. The rich curry itself falls somewhere between the classic Thai red and panang curries (not too spicy or sweet like the latter, but the levels for spice can be adjusted) -- it's super tasty and even came with jasmine rice! It has lots of veggies and tofu in it. I thought the pumpkin was super unique as well, and would definitely recommend to anyone who hasn't tried it before. I had ordered at another food truck green curry before having to come here. The other food truck just ran out of green curry but luckily Poompui didn't disappoint. I ordered pork green curry with white rice. My order came out piping hot and fast. I had asked for super spicy during my order. It was spicy and flavorful but not super spicy like I asked. However most people when I order super spicy fail to deliver. Meh. I would have liked to add extra spice to it but I didn't see any condiments. Hands down the best Thai food cart I've tried in Portland, complete with a menu that's exciting! The Pad Thai is amazing, and so is the Panang Curry, and Garlic Pork w/ Egg. I can't complain about the mango sticky rice either. Wait time is quick for a food cart, as they're used to serving rushing PSU students and business people in the area. Portions are generous for the price; my pork dish was half meat. However, the best thing for me would be the drinks! The Thai tea is only $1.50! The green tea is $2.50 and well worth it. I will say, though, their pink drink (the nom yen) tastes exactly like Peptol Bismol. Not my speed, but if you enjoy that then go for it! First Impression: Cheap, but Flavor Unexpected. Good Price and Size of Food and Drinks. Price-wise, most of their dishes are between $6-$8, which is pretty great. Their portions are pretty big, and the variety of their menu is wide. I ordered a Vegetable Pad See Ew and a Thai Iced Tea (Pad See Ew was about $6 or $7 while Thai Iced Tea was $1.50 for a 24 oz.). The Pad See Ew was definitely not like the usual ones I ate--the color was lacking the dark+light soy sauce found in usual recipes, and it was more like banh cuon with soy sauce than Pad See Ew. The taste was light so those who prefer it light will like this. The noodles were sticking to each other more than the usual stickiness that food carts have, the sauce was not spread out adequately, and I had found a piece of plastic in my box. Overall, it was a good dish, just that it's definitely not the taste of the Pad See Ew though. For a price of $1.50, 24 ounces of Thai Iced Tea is such a great deal. The taste is exactly what you expect if you've drank this before. Great deal in a large 24 oz. cup than usual places. I'd love to try their other foods as well, just that I was a little disappointed and surprised of their recipe of the Pad See Ew. read more

Most of the restaurants around our hotel were closed (I assume due to covid) so my family was very excited to find this food cart open. I got the Pad Thai special, which came with pork dumplings and peanut sauce. It was hands down the best pad Thai I've ever had. Super flavorful, spicy without being too spicy, great texture on the noodles, each coated with sauce and not stuck together at all. We also had an order of spring rolls which were crispy and delicious even after our walk back to the hotel to eat. Very reasonable prices and generous portions. Fast and friendly service. Located away from the bustling cartmania pods, Poompui is situated by itself in the park blocks just North of Burnside (Eight and NW Couch). For an urban setting, its really quite tranquil (minus the lady who cursed at us randomly and the construction across the street, neither of which seemed like they'd regularly be there, lucky us). Note that they are open weekdays 11a- 5p and if you text your name and order to 503-709-1662 you won't have to wait for them to cook it. I imagine this could come in handy on a busier day. The menu is expansive including: Appetizers - Salad Rolls, Popia Tod, Fried Wonton Soups - Tom Yum, Tom Kah Beverages - Thai Iced Coffee, Pop, Coconut Juice, Mango Juice Noodles - Pad Thai, Kua Gai, Pad Kee Mao Stiry Fry - Pad Pug, Pad Gaprao, Pad Cashew, Stir Fried Eggplant Fried Rice - Pineapple, Tom Yum, Curry Curry - Praram, Green, Yellow (choice of protein chicken, tofu, beef, or pork with the soups, rice, noodles, and curry) The best part about the menu is the pricing. $3 for soups and appetizers. $5 for noodles, stir fry, fried rice, and curry. Now there's a stimulus package I can get behind (or in my mouth). TWSS Of course this would matter little if the food was inedible, but it's really quite good. I had the Stir Fried Eggplant, ground chicken, chinese eggplant, soy bean curd, chili paste, onion, and basil served with rice. Everything nicely balanced,sweet, spicy (though its worth mentioning if you like real heat) at some point I gave up on my chopsticks (which really isn't that Thai anyway...for saucy things like curries spoon and forks are the way to go) and started shoveling with my fork. This led me to consider, a new business idea (I have a few daily). What if I could invent a new utensil that everybody would want to use? Knives, Forks, Spoons, been there done that. And forget Sporks, how bout utensil sized Shovels? As usual I digress, maybe I'll instead start a paper company, undercut the competition, and hope to get bought out before anyone realizes it's bankrupt. Props to Michael Scott for that plan. What will you find here at Poompui? A serious serving of pad kee mao for just $6. The container had to have been three pounds at least. I couldn't finish it. There was a lot of food & by all means that is not a complaint. What I did complain to myself about though was the fish sauce. It was enough to notice which wasn't pleasant but that's where Sriracha came to the rescue. Other than that everything else was great. The assortment of veggies & tofu were all very good & thoroughly cooked. The service was surprisingly fast for how many customers there were waiting during lunch hour. The food cart is ridiculously tall or I've gotten ridiculously shorter. I had to step up onto a curb, or platform, or whatever was there, from the sidewalk in order to reach the window to pay. Pretty sure the back of my head was touching my back from having to look up so high each time. Anyways, that shouldn't stop you from trying Poompui. I've had their food a couple times and I found each time was just "meh". I've definitely had better pad Thai given that it's a good cart. It does come with peanut sauce which I've never been offered before at other places. The fried tofu sticks and tempura is pretty good. The tom yum soup is decent. I feel like I should try more of their food, but in an area saturated with Thai food carts that I know make me satisfied every time, it's hard to choose something I'm iffy about. I love avocado shakes and this place knows how to make them. The mango smoothies are good as well. The mango/avocado smoothie was a bit odd. Kudos for trying something new. Not necessarily good in my opinion, but I can now say I've tried it. Coconut and pineapple smoothie can be passed on. I regretted not getting an avocado smoothie. Thai food can be done well, or it can be done very well. At least that's what I think. I have yet to eat horrible Thai food (thank goodness), which either means: I don't eat Thai food very often (and when I do, have gotten lucky eating at good places), or that I'm easy to please. I definitely don't think it's the latter (ask any of my friends- wait, don't!) Before getting a haircut at Grace, I realized that Poompui was right down the block (and a few left and rights) away from the salon. So I pulled my car up and ordered a Pad Peanut (or at least I think that's what it was called). It was so good, and Poompui has definitely become one of the top 4 Thai places I've eaten at. And with food cart prices, where could I go wrong?? Apparently, I look like a regular customer of theirs, because the guy who worked there first said, "ordering what you ordered last time?" and then secondly asked, "so, do you have a sister?" Which means: he's really friendly and tries to remember his customers, or: he was hitting on me (or prefers someone who looks like me, but isn't actually me). During my first week in Portland I ventured out on the Trimet to Downtown Portland to check out the food cart scene and I should say that I was thoroughly impressed with Poompui. I can't remember the name of the dish, but it was a curry with noodles, tofu, veggies and some crispy noodles on the top. The flavor of the curry was top-notch and the veggies were cooked perfectly. Their portions are pretty generous which means you can get two meals out of it! This place definitely delivers top notch flavorful food and is worth the money! read more
