We stumbled upon this spot, and it ended up being one of our favorite restaurants during our week in Rhode Island. From the moment we arrived, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was just as impressive. We sat outside overlooking their beautiful hydrangeas, which made for such a relaxing setting. Three of us ordered the smoked chicken wrap, and it was absolutely incredible. The rest of our group had salads and pizzas, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and would absolutely come back the next time we're in Rhode Island!

I suppose the name should give it away. When they say poor people, they mean it. They do not have a fryer, everything is baked. We started with what we thought were potato skins. They were potato shells, with American cheese melted on top with a strip of bacon... they tasted freezer burnt. As I said, no fryer so everything came with ridge chips. They were very good. For main meals we got 2 chili dogs. The chili on the dogs was pretty good, but I knew what it would do to me later. The grilled buns and dogs were just fine, the service was great! The decor is definitely poor people's pub style. So it all depends on what you are looking for. Cheap, frozen to table food, that's more economical? Then they're the place you'd like to hit up! If you're looking for a bit more then I'd suggest going elsewhere. They are handicapped accessible and they have a large private parking lot. They're just across the street from the Lovell lake boat launch !

We haven't been in a while and since we weren't in the mood to cook.... The turkey dinner wasn't bad. A little dry and the mashed potato's were too. I had the special bbq Hawaiian pizza. A large is just 12" but I was only having 2 slices and bringing the rest home. The BBQ sauce was a little overpowering

Stopped by the Poor People's Pub for the first time yesterday and had an incredible experience. From the service to the food, everything was five stars. Our server was such a sweet and cheerful woman and we met the owner as well who was very nice and made sure everything was going great from start to finish. I highly recommend the French onion soup, pepperoni sticks, and steak tip Caesar salad. The vibe is casual and laid back and perfect after a day at the lake. I will definitely be back!

    Hobo pizza special

Just a classic local restaurant with cheap eats and drinks. Specials include the best lobster roll in new Hampshire, specialty pizza of the day plus a whole lot of comfort food. On my last visit I got the hobo pizza which was corned beef, sauerkraut, cheese, pickles. It's unusual but really good.

I've been traveling and was starving. I checked the menu and got the grilled cheese with tomato and bacon to go. I'm not sure if I was just missing NH or famished but that sandwich was absolutely delicious. Bacon was perfect, tomatoes were plentiful and the rye bread was delish. I was in heaven as I sat by Sunrise Lake munching my sandwich.

The bike shop in Wolfeboro recommended this spot after we cycled 12 miles into Sanborn. What a phenomenal treat to enjoy the best lobster roll in New Hampshire - I would dare say on the Eastern seaboard - after a challenging bike ride. Excellent service, fair prices and a fantastic dive-bar vibe. Cannot wait to come back and try out more of their extensive menu.

Not a fancy place but that is part of it's charm. Started by a couple of guys to make good food affordable, my friend and I popped in for their famous lobstah rolls. Served either hot or cold - and both are delish - I recommend the cold one. Attentive and friendly service!

It can get loud so the dining room side might be a better choice if you want quiet. Sat at a window side table and was promptly given menu's and Amanda asked for our drink order. Bloody Marys were ok but Sams Summer was better. We started with one of the specials starter, Thai chili shrimp. It was highly crispy with a nice chili sauce. We followed that with a small cheese pizza which was tasty, cheesy and thin. Hit the spot. We also ordered a Chicken Parm Stromboli to take home which was fantastic and worked on that the next day. Everything we got was very good. Our waitress Amanda was efficient, friendly and stopped by often to check on us. Nice Job. The place gets a solid four stars.

The bartenders and service staff are always on top of their game and are above average to say the least. The current ownership seems to have the traffic at a higher level than the past, causing much disorganization when things get busy. They could better manage and better serve everyone by having reservations during their heavy rush times. Because they don't, the staff has more work managing the long wait vs. having more time to process table turnover. In addition, they don't take reservations, but they place a RESERVED card of a 6 chair high top every weekend night. I've seen this table empty for hours as customers wait an hour or more in the foyer. If you're looking for a nice sit down dinner during peak dinner hours, there are other options. I'm sure it's a great landing spot for early afternoon dinner. Edit: The owners response on May 15 2026 stating that they allowed reservations was incorrect. As of today, May 22nd, they announced their "New Policies" which were posted on Facebook which states that they are taking reservations which in my opinion will improve the dining experience there.

I wish I had more room in my luggage and I would have purchased some gifts to take home. Love the feel of this place with the rocking chairs on the porch and the lunch counter. Finally, now that the 'newness' wore off, 4 of us were able to grab a table with ease. There was live music & they post on their Facebook page regularly with updates on food & cocktail specials. We decided on appetizers: nachos w/ chicken, mozzarella sticks & potato skins. The nachos were really good - I liked the chips they used. The mozzarella sticks were a bit underwhelming, similar to frozen ones I've purchased at BJs. The potato skins tasted like they were made in-house. ABOVE & BEYOND MOMENT: Our server, Jackie, was friendly & patient with our requests. I had asked if they could make a spicy margarita. She asked the bartender & they were out of their jalapeno tequila so they asked if it was okay to muddle fresh jalapenos instead. I said I trusted the bartender to do what they thought best. When my margarita was delivered, the Jackie asked if I wouldn't mind tasting it to make sure it wasn't too spicy. I think the fact they custom made the drink & ensured it was to my liking was great. I see mixed reviews about the prices. I honestly found that appetizers averaging about $15 was on the high side. We'd like to go back for dinner, maybe when there isn't live music. Very loud due to the small space. The ambience is a cleaned up version of J.J. Goodwins & there are (2) pool tables.
