We stumbled upon this spot, and it ended up being one of our favorite restaurants during our week in Rhode Island. From the moment we arrived, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was just as impressive. We sat outside overlooking their beautiful hydrangeas, which made for such a relaxing setting. Three of us ordered the smoked chicken wrap, and it was absolutely incredible. The rest of our group had salads and pizzas, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. I suppose the name should give it away. When they say poor people, they mean it. They do not have a fryer, everything is baked. We started with what we thought were potato skins. They were potato shells, with American cheese melted on top with a strip of bacon... they tasted freezer burnt. As I said, no fryer so everything came with ridge chips. They were very good. For main meals we got 2 chili dogs. The chili on the dogs was pretty good, but I knew what it would do to me later. The grilled buns and dogs were just fine, the service was great! The decor is definitely poor people's pub style. So it all depends on what you are looking for. Cheap, frozen to table food, that's more economical? Then they're the place you'd like to hit up! If you're looking for a bit more then I'd suggest going elsewhere. They are handicapped accessible and they have a large private parking lot. Stopped in while driving thru the town, looking for somewhere to eat quick. It was a hole in the wall for sure. Service was excellent extremely friendly and very attentive. This is definitely a dive bar where locals come regularly. The food was okay nothing special but did the job. The turkey BLT with cranberry mayo was missing the mayo. It could have had more lettuce and bacon. We also got the chicken bites and fries which are an appetizer, these have seen better days. I do have to say the hobo special which is a Reuben sandwich was outstanding! That is one thing they have going for them. It's not somewhere I would go out of the way to eat at but if you are passing thru it's not terrible especially because passing thru there are not many places to stop at. read more

We haven't been in a while and since we weren't in the mood to cook.... The turkey dinner wasn't bad. A little dry and the mashed potato's were too. I had the special bbq Hawaiian pizza. Stopped by the Poor People's Pub for the first time yesterday and had an incredible experience. From the service to the food, everything was five stars. Our server was such a sweet and cheerful woman and we met the owner as well who was very nice and made sure everything was going great from start to finish. I highly recommend the French onion soup, pepperoni sticks, and steak tip Caesar salad. The vibe is casual and laid back and perfect after a day at the lake. I will definitely be back! read more

Happened upon this gem by chance after finding our usual stop closed, even though their social media page indicated otherwise. First and foremost...great service! Our waitress was wonderful; very friendly, attentive and efficient. We had lobster rolls, a turkey BLT wrap, a tuna sub and a Reuben. The meals were great except the fries were baked and not fried. I read there is no fryolator on the premises. No matter. The beverages were ice cold and the lobster rolls huge!! Had a great experience here. No frills. Just a classic local restaurant with cheap eats and drinks. Specials include the best lobster roll in new Hampshire, specialty pizza of the day plus a whole lot of comfort food. On my last visit I got the hobo pizza which was corned beef, sauerkraut, cheese, pickles. It's unusual but really good. read more

I've been traveling and was starving. I checked the menu and got the grilled cheese with tomato and bacon to go. What a phenomenal treat to enjoy the best lobster roll in New Hampshire - I would dare say on the Eastern seaboard - after a challenging bike ride. A great find! Menu is filled with good American food choices. Our party enjoyed a blue cheese burger, bacon cheeseburger, black bean vegetarian burger, and a meatball sub. All were liked very much. Fries and chips were great. The vegetarian burger was likely Gardein brand and not home-made. The buns and rolls were all well proportioned to the different burgers. We started with salads. Dressings are good, fresh and crisp vegetables. The atmosphere is comfortable. Lots of wood and some nick-nacks. Lots of self promotion of themselves / the resturaunt. Our food experience here was quite bad; fortunately the service is a shining star. On the plus side, their French onion soup is quite good, and our 9 year old enjoyed the pasta. However, everything else we ordered was badly a "miss." One of our party has quite a stomach ache after the Hobo sandwich; another barely touched the pulled pork special for how dry it was. I chanced the Best In NH lobster roll, which was somehow dry, tough (overcooked? Cooked twice?), and I gave up before finishing it. Not sure what's going on in the kitchen, but at least the interior was cozy (other than a strong bleach or other chemical smell) and the folks working there were super nice. read more

Well I heard it on Friday, in all of its schlocky, campy, kitschy, over the top glory while having lunch in one of the very coolest places I've been to in a long, long time. We were there at 2:00 pm on a Friday, and the place was packed---every seat taken with a 20 minute wait for new arrivals like us. That sure says a lot, doesn't it? How do I even start to describe the Poor People's Pub? Well, every single square inch of every single wall is covered with something -a photo, a print, a cartoon- maybe 1,00 individual pieces, and I haven't even mentioned the painted artwork on the windows. Much of the painted artwork includes their logo -a hobo and a dog walking along-they're modeled after the country gentleman on the monopoly piece whose top hat was downgraded to a derby hat. Their menu has a lot of bum/beggar references -like Beggar's Banquet Salad, a slew of Bum's Bombs sandwiches, a Poor Burger, Tramp's Treat, Pauper's Choice, and Hobo Special. Pricing is super reasonable and you'll be hard pressed to find anything on the menu over $12. We ordered a cup of white chili with tons of chicken, sliced jalapenos and tortilla chips ($5,99), a Poor Boy cheeseburger with chips ($5.49), and a diet cola ($2.75). We were so disappointed a couple of weekends ago. We usually love the lobster rolls and this time the amount of lobster was at most 2/3 of the usual amount and was tough as if frozen and then o er microwaved to heat for our hot lobster rolls. Oh and the price was $36 versus $28 a couple hours f years ago. Cole slaw muscle amount and a few chips. We might be back but far from the best lobster rolls in NH like they used to be. Cute fun pub in a little town Sanbornville with 900+ residents. Friendly super helpful service from Jill. Draft pale ale beer is good. Food is average quality, can be dry for most dishes. People's pizza has generous toppings, and could do better with more sauce taste. Pizza pie is interesting, though not preferred by kids who may find too dry. First time here but we'll be back! Great food and great service. Hubs had a roast beef sandwich on a gluten-free roll (thank you PPP for gf options!), and I had the legendary lobster roll. They give you so much lobster that they put it in a casserole and let you stuff your bun yourself -- a good value for $31. I got the hot buttered version and the lobster was fresh and perfectly cooked. The place seems very popular so go early, esp. for dinner. read more

Drove so far for the "famous Hot turkey dinner" and was so disappointed. It was like a tv dinner, the turkey crumbled with my fork and was dry. The roll was inedible and hard I could have cracked a tooth. There was kids running around playing hairdresser at the next table over. Food is decent. It can be a little chaotic inside if you go at night, and seating is a tad confusing. However, the food is ok. I got the lobster roll since the place seemed to be known for it, but I wasn't too impressed. The lobster was a little bit dry and the flavor I think could have been better. The pizza was also mediocre, but my kids were hungry and didn't seem to care that much. We ordered large pizzas but they seemed more on the medium side. I'd recommend this place if nothing else close by is open which was our situation. read more
