So - I called my roadside assistance through my insurance for help changing a flat tire on my small SUV out in Buda. They sent out pop a lock. They were 30 minutes later then their scheduled arrival time - but, things happen and I can deal with that - annoying but not the end of the world. Then, the guy arrives and starts to change my tire and says to me, "where's your wrench to lower your spare?" I said, "isn't it in the back of the car?" - He proceeds to tell me that's its not in the back of the car and I should check under the seats because he can't change the tire without it. I look under the seats - its not there. I ask if he has something he can use, since, afterall, he is roadside assistance. He tells me there isn't anything he can do except call me a tow truck. I tell him, okay, I guess if thats what I have to do then thats what I have to do so to call me a tow truck 'but' is he sure the wrench is not in the back, he says, "yes -it would be in the side wall pocket if you had it". Then instantly - in a speed that would break Olympic Records, he jumps in his car and peels out of my neighborhood (flat tire happened at my house). I turn around, look in the back of the car, pull up the rug covering, open the (very easy to see if you are looking) compartment and, viola, like magic there is a wrench to lower the spare, and believe it or not even a jack. I immediately run out to the road to see if he is gone but of course, by now, since its been 2 minutes, he is probably in Round Rock and all I see is the dust kicked up from his tires. I have to call my insurance company back again, restart the roadside assistance call - this time with a new company. I also call pop a lock directly - mainly to tell him not to send a tow truck...and they have no call out for my car for a no tow truck - how nice of him to say he is calling a tow truck and then not even bother. Lesson for pop a lock - if they guy can't find a wrench in the back of a small SUV then he shouldn't be sent to change tires. End of Story - avoid this company. read more

at 8 am i locked my keys in my trunk and used my insurance road side assistance . They placed the request with pop a lock. initially it said 40 minutes . then i got a text saying arrival 9:18. Then i got a text at 9:20 saying completed and how was the service ... THE GUY NEVER SHOWED UP!!!! So i called your dispatch and was told it was still open but the technician was running seriously behind- WHAT? IT WAS 8 AM when i requested help. HOW FAR BEHIND COULD HE BE?! So then dispatch said it would be about another 40 minutes to an hour ... and that she would have the technician call me immediately to give me an estimated time of arrival ... wow- I waited 30 minutes and he never called. DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE! How do I give them zero stars? I used Pop a Lock on Sunday, May 15. I couldn't get into my apartment and my office wouldn't help me get into my place. My experience was horrible. I'd rather break a window or sleep on the street than give this "company" one penny of my hard earned money for their sh*tty "service." I have never experienced such un-professionalism and the run around they gave me is unacceptable. 1st call - I call at 10:35pm after having my keys stolen. Dispatch (which is not in Austin) took my info and said it would cost $65 to open my apartment. I gave my address and she quickly hung up on me. The operator was incredibly short with me so it was a brief call. 2nd call - I call back right away at 10:40 after realizing she didn't even get my phone number (how will they reach me?) Another person answered and I gave my info again. She said it was submitted and would take less than 30 minutes. The operator was rude and silent whenever I asked a question. I had to ask "Are you there? Did you hear me?" Her response was "Yeah." 3rd call - About 40 minutes pass so I call again around 11:21pm to find out why it's taking so long and I find out my request ISN'T EVEN on the board! So I've been waiting for NOTHING and have to wait ANOTHER 30 minutes. 4th call - I call around 11:52pm to get an ETA. I tell them that I'd like a discount due to the fact that I called to confirm someone was on they way but they actually were not. The dispatch person was fairly nice this time and apologized. She said the driver would give me a discount for the error. The guy finally arrived at 11:55pm. I tell him about the wait time and how dispatch never put in my request so I am to be given a discount. He yells at me that he can't do that. He's only here to collect payment and open the door. I tell him I don't know how this works because I've never used a locksmith or Pop a Lock before. He tells me to call the office so I do. He also says this is common. That they have horrible dispatch service who lose requests a lot so hound them until I get through and get a discount. 5th call - 11:59pm I call to find out how to get a discount and the person tells me due to my location (Austin) the dispatch center is unable to help me and refers me to another number (254-773-2962). I attached a screenshot of all the calls that I placed that night to back me up. In total, I have waited over 90 minutes when I was told it would take less than 30!! Did I mention that it has been raining this entire night?! So I call the 254 number on Monday morning to speak to a supervisor. The first call they take my info and I gave the details on my Sunday ordeal. The person apologizes and says that a supervisor has my info and will call me by the end of the day. No one calls Monday. I call again Tuesday. I speak to a different person and give them the information all over again. This time the person actually is a supervisor and her name is Dee. Dee apologizes and says they will make it up to me. They will call me back by the end of the day. No one calls. I call again Wednesday. I speak to Brooke, who is the first nice and courteous person to actually treat me with some empathy. She says that they have forwarded my information to the Austin office and the manager, Marty, will call me back in a day or two. Marty doesn't call. I call again on Tuesday, May 24 to find out what is going on and why I haven't heard from Marty. I speak to Jacob and he says he will personally reach out to Marty. Marty finally gets back in touch with me but doesn't actually call me himself. He then says he will offer me a $5 reimbursement and that is all I "deserve." So eff you Pop a Lock! In the event that you ever lose your keys or have them stolen, I have a few tips that can help you avoid using a service like Pop a Lock. It's never happened to me so I'm prepared now: Tip #1 - If you live in an apartment, hide a spare key somewhere around the complex. A friend told me that she hid a key under a brick near her pool area. You can also give a key to a neighbor you trust. Tip #2 - I don't have family in the area but you can leave a spare key at a family member's residence or a good friend's home. Most of my friends here live in apartments like me so they may move around a bit and lose track of the key. It's better if it's a home and hid somewhere where they won't mess with it (not like a junk drawer) Tip #3 - Leave a spare key at work. I have card ID access so I don't need a key to get into my office. But if you leave a key at work and somehow can't get in, there is always a co-worker who may be nice enough to loan you their set so you can get into the building/office. Tip #4 - Find out what is your apartment's policy on lock-ins. Some may do it and charge a fee. Better to give them money then Pop a Lock. Pop a Lock is the WORST! If worse comes to worse and you don't have a key, just break a window. Don't give them a penny of your money. read more

The person who answered the phone sounded like a teen and spoke very quickly, even after being asked to slow down. She placed me on hold, came back and told me they couldn't do the job. And that was it - didn't offer after-hours work, or a suggestion abt setting a time tomorrow. If that's the best they can do, why are they even in business? The last thing you want to deal with is waiting, poor customer service or having to spend to much money. Pop-A-Lock is none of those things. They are a great price. USAA was told I needed a T-O-W truck instead, I waited over an hour for a dude to show up in a wrapped #PopALock van to tell me his dispatcher was confused and he'd tell dispatch to "send a truck" I waited another hour before I called USAA and they had no record of #PopALock calling to say they couldn't do the job and another company needed. Needless to say, 3 hours later a PRO showed up and towed my car to a nearby shop. If these dudes can't even take a simple order from USAA are you sure you want them working on your car? Not me. The worst service I have ever experienced. I lost my keys last year and the dude who came sexually harassed me the entire time. Made comments on my body and was just a total creep. The battery in the keys i got must have been old because it didn't last more than 4 months. I called them again this past week because the key stopped working and they were the ones who originally made me the key. The SAME dude came again was creepy and made comments that made me very uncomfortable. For the price of these keys it would be nice to get one that actually works and not be sexually harassed. read more

Had a blowout on the interstate and called roadside assistance, and they sent Popalock, who arrived 40 minutes later. After he couldn't find us, a sheriff pulled up and waited. Popalock guy called and said "I see you are on the inside of the interstate and I don't do that. You have to get a tow truck". We told roadside assistance we were on the inside. The cop thought that was ridiculous and talked to him on the phone, and Popalock reluctantly decided to fix it, with the cop ensuring traffic wasn't close. Moral of the story is Austin Texas Popalock has a less than adequate "man" working who says he doesn't have life insurance or make enough and would rather drive off and say no than help. He agrees he needs to look for a new job. Also if you have someone stop on the side of the road don't wait on roadside assistance who calls "Popalock" to help. Should have known that was a bad idea anyways. Or if Popalock comes make sure there is a sheriff to talk to them. That obviously works too. read more

I was inside so they called me. The guy was very pleasant and helpful. He removed the spare, changed it, and put everything back in less than 10 minutes. Quick, efficient and polite. And the customer service that he gave was awesome the best I have used the service before I never thought about writing a review only because it wasn't worth writing a review until today he was very nice and very polite. Well when you tell someone that you'll be arriving in 45 minutes and you can't, a company should probably let you know they'll be late. After you call the company and let them know that the drivers late to find out when he'll be there and they say he'll be calling but doesn't bother calling 30 minutes later, you tell them to go %$^8 themselves and change the tire yourself. This company was dispatched by USAA, my insurance provider, to change a tire. I waived off a Good Samaritan who pulled over to help because these guys were coming. Soon after the good Samaritan left I received a call from USAA stating that I was parked too close to a wall for them to change the tire. I locked my keys in the trunk last night. It was 11:40 and I was in an HEB parking lot and that day we got a cold front in Austin and it went from 80 to 45 in one day. Anyways I called pop a lock at 11:45 pm and they told 30-45 min. I said cool. I just waited and at midnight I had to leave the inside of heb bc they were closing and I had no jacket. So I call pop a lock again and they assure me in 30 min someone will be there. I'm in a short sleeve shirt with no jacket at midnight in the parking lot at heb, which was my fault entirely. I just had faith that pop a lock was coming. Needless to say I called again at 12:30 and the dispatch told me it would be another hour to an hour and a half. I had no one to call. And thank god a nice lady saw me crying and offered to take me home. read more

As I was leaving work, I realized I had a flat tire and roadside assistance was set up by my insurance company. My service tech from Pop-A-Lock arrived earlier than the estimated time which is the only thing that went well about the service. Scott, the service tech, was looking at my registration which I had not adhered to the windshield yet due to needing to remove the old inspection sticker which was not coming off easily. Scott told me "that was lazy" and then told me how to remove it. I politely told him that I had tried to remove it that morning but was unsuccessful. It was so frustrating to have someone say that what I had done was lazy because it was far from that. My husband had the flu, I was ill, and I was trying to care for our four month old baby. I had not had the time to properly remove the sticker which I knew how to do. When he put the spare time on my car and it was flat, he sarcastically told me that I needed to check my spare more often. When I responded that I just had it done, he told me how it wasn't sufficient. I just needed my spare tire put on, I did not need to be criticized for what I wasn't doing. To Scott: when you are caring for your sick spouse, being the sole care taker for a four month old baby who does not sleep, commuting 1.5 hours every day, and having an occupation that makes sure people don't kill themselves, then you can criticize me for what I'm not doing. As I see it, what I do EVERY DAY is more important that making sure I have my registration sticker adhered properly or personally inspecting my spare tire once a week. Never again Pop-A-Lock! I'm adding changing my own flat tire to my list of things that I will do from now on! read more

I had the WORST experience with Pop-A-Lock yesterday! I had a flat tire, thankfully was close to home so I made it to my house. The person who came out to my house though, decides he's going to put air into my tire. When he realized that won't fix my flat (shocker right?), he asks for my tools to fix my spare. When I start to explain to him that my back hatch door is broken he tells me I have to tow my car and then leaves! He didn't even let me explain that I could open the door for him from the inside of the car. LAZY. That's all there was to it. Reliable Roadside Assistance came out today and fixed my tire in 10 minutes! I was completely shocked because yesterday I was told the only way to fix my tire was switch it out completely. a few months ago i needed my safe to be opened, i called a random place, was told it'd be $20, had them come out only to tell me "$20 to come here, $89 for the service" yeah.... so the other day my bf locked my keys in the car when we were getting fro-yo. my purse, cell, EVERYTHING was in the car. i called a few places and was told $39+ service charge by the first two, called this place and was told $39 total. the lady was super nice, telling me that it was okay and to take deep breaths (nice to hear when you're angry). the guy came about half hour later, was super nice (wish i could remember his name, young thin blonde guy) and got the car unlocked in less than a minute. This place absolutely blows. Was sworn at by the technician, Lauren, who could not get into my trunk- where my keys were. (I was totally calm and polite, I just asked why I should pay her when she couldn't get my trunk open. I was quoted $45 to get the keys out of my trunk. When she stuck a metal rod into my window and set off the alarm, the trunk release was disabled. Therefore, I was not able to get into my trunk.) Filed a complaint, and was contacted by Scott - who just hung up on me after I wouldn't accept his offer to "file charges" against me. Yes, that's right. Rather than fix a screwed up situation or admit fault, they will threaten to file charges against you for "failure to pay". NO WAY WOULD I EVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE-- EVER! I called another locksmith who came and was able to immediately get into my car without sticking a piece of wire through the window- FOR LESS than I was quoted from Pop-A-Lock.
