I am impressed with the service that I just received from Pop-A-Lock. I had a flat tire and normally I call my insurance company's Roadside Assistance but they made a mistake and removed the Roadside coverage so I was left on my own to figure out what to do. So I came to Yelp and decided that I would call Pop-A-Lock. The service technician's name was Will. I just cannot say enough good things about him. I am so impressed. First of all, it was freezing outside and he was just really nice, and friendly. As he started to pull down the spare from underneath the car he said that I could wait inside if I wanted to but I wanted to learn more. I know how to change a tire but have never had to do it on this car. So, I stayed outside, he explained everything along the way in a very kind way. I was a little nervous about doing it myself because a friend told me that with air pressurized tools, the lug nuts can be very hard to get off and I was unsure how to get the spare out from under the car. He told me that the pressurized part may be true and he told me what tools I could purchase if I ever wanted to do it myself. He showed me how he put the jack underneath the car and explained why it was angled slightly different than the jack that is part of my car would be if I used it. He finished the work and then told me told me then gave me a safety advisory -- saying that I could not go faster than 50 miles an hour on the spare. I knew that but he explained why that was (which I did not know) and said that I needed to be really conscious of the speed at which I am driving and that the tire is only meant to get my car to a place that can fix it -- I shouldn't spend too much time driving around on it. All of this was said in a very nice, non-condecsending way. He was very good at teaching and explaining things. I am very grateful that I called Pop-A-Lock and that Will was the technician that was assigned to me. I was happy to have all of the information that he gave me. My son and I have had several experiences with Pop-A-Lock through his car insurance with USAA. EVERY TIME the service has been rapid, courteous, and extremely efficient. I have NEVER had a single complaint whether it was a flat tire, a dead battery, or a misplaced key. In the past, the same service technician came every time and I was pleased and reassured because I "knew him" and knew he would do a good job quickly and competently. Yesterday, Dec 23, we had to call because the car wouldn't start. I was a little worried about what kind of service we would get since it was so close to the holidays (last week I had to call 17 plumbers before I found one who would come out). The service technician - a new and different individual - was at our house in under 30 minutes from the time we placed the first call to USAA's road assistance. Mikey, the technician, was extremely friendly, polite, and helpful. My son is hearing-impaired and since Mikey is proficient in American Sign Language, he took the time to verbally explain what was going on to me and then to repeat everything in ASL to my son! Wow! I know that the type of service often depends upon the individual technicians and other circumstances around the situation and their day, but in every instance, we have had great service from Pop-A-Lock. I have used pop a lock many times for flat tires. I have always been happy but todays service was 5 star. I was on 620 and I ran over a steel rod. Pulled over quickly and call roadside assistance, who then called pop a lock. The guy shows up on time (yeah), he is friendly, nice and tells me the process. Even gets out a chair so I can sit will he jacks up the car. He adds air to my spare and make sure he tightens all the lugs sufficiently. He told me to be careful on my spare and actually scared me a bit (which is a good thing). Getting a flat stinks but having someone take care of it so well is awesome. read more

A little courtesy goes a long way with a service like a locksmith. He's kind of got you over a barrel and a less than pleasant exchange can easily escalate into Yelp warfare, a trend well evidenced here. Hired Pop A Lock based on their glowing reviews on this site and got a super nice, funny and accommodating locksmith who showed up fast and extracted a key broken off in a lock quickly and with great courtesy and personality. This is one of those services that I think a lot of folks consider to be the realm of shady types and shakedowns, and I am pleased that this business has apparently trained its people properly in an attempt to negate that perception. read more

Called for roadside systems and they said they're going to be out there in 15 minutes. They never called back, just cancelled and I found out with a phone call from my own insurance telling me they canceled because it wasn't safe on the side of the road. Are you kidding me! You're "roadside assistance"!!!! How hard would it be been for the technician to call me or stop quickly and say can you move your car to a safer location. I now have to wait another hour for another roadside assistance to show up to take care of me. read more

This company is so unreliable because I requested Emergency Roadside Service thru Geico Insurance for a flat tire and the lazy mechanic never bothered to call or rescue me for hours in the middle of Georgetown all night!! Then I called Geico back, another request for Pop A Lock, and some black guy shows up 3 hours later giving me an attitude saying why didn't I just give him the home address instead of saying "downtown 15th street and whatever" on Google Maps? Then asking me how I jumped the curb and ended up with a flat tire at 7:00 am, just being a fucking asshole!! 100% best experience with a locksmith EVER. I'm from Houston and lost my car keys in Austin. I called a few locksmiths to unlock the car, and they all gave me the same run-around of "it'll cost ~$40 for the service call, and the technician will be able to quote you for labour" etc... Then came Troy from Pop-A-Lock, my knight in shining armour. I called Pop-A-Lock and they told me I'd be contacted by a locksmith shortly. Within 15 minutes, Troy gave me a call. He was very upfront about the entire cost for key replacement -- no bullshit service fee, no surprise labour fee at the end, no crazy cost for the key itself. Straightforward and directly to the point. Moreover, once he was here and working on the car, he told me in detail exactly what he was doing and gave me a solid time estimate. We carried on a great conversation for the ~30 minutes it took to make the key (old Toyotas have 4 potential chips for the split-year make), I signed my receipt, and we were both on our merry ways. locked myself out the house. they are very affordable and arrived on time... twice. Called dispatch and they sent someone out to pop a house deadbolt (with keyhole). 30 min wait. First time they sent a kid out who looked and sounded straigh out a stoner movie. He didn't know much. the lock was 'unpickable' and he couldnt do it and had to go. I dont know why the dispatcher didnt ask me if i had a smart lock first and saved us the time. He called another guy named Will to come drill it out and replace the lock. He showed up in 30 min and kicked ass and knocked it out. he replaced the lock and gave me some spare keys which i didnt have before. Dispatch was nice comapred to other rude locksmith companies. I've locked myself out of so many cars in the past year alone, you'd think I'd have the hanger trick down....or have a hide a key. However, this is not the case...so in comes Pop-A-Lock. I've used them the last two times I've annoyingly locked my keys in my car & both times their service was great! I was low on cash the first time & they gladly accepted payment over the phone from my roommate, who was at home & I was locked out at Zilker Park. Today, my brain was mush & locked my keys in my car again. After an hour of trying the hanger deal, I gave up & called Pop-A-Lock. The dispatcher was very nice on the phone, quoted me $49.95 & said a driver would be there in 30 minutes. 15 minutes later Corey called & was at my car! He was friendly & personable while taking my info & quickly unlocked my car. I'm going to get a spare key made (finally) but will definitely use Pop-A-Lock again if needed! read more

I locked my keys in my car and fortunately enough I was able to get them back in 30 minutes from call and the service. The representative was super sweet and patient with me and told me that the guy would be there in about an hour. I was okay with this after hearing of people waiting up to 3 hours elsewhere. 10 minutes after the initial call, the wonderful guy named Ian called and said he would be there in about 10 minutes. He arrived right when he said he would and then got straight to work. Within a minute he had my door unlocked. After a signature and paying 45$ the whole thing was done. I'm happy with the great experience I had for something that everyone loathes. I would recommend popalock to anyone!!! The price was great compared to the others I was looking at! Security called me to inform me the locksmith was out in the parking lot an hour after initial call. Go outside, and don't see anyone. Security guard informs me the locksmith said he'd be right back. 15 min later, call back, they still have the wrong number (3rd call to dispatch) and she said she would have him call me. 15 min later, no call, so I call back and get Jerry back on the phone. He tells me it'll be 12 min. 30 min later, I call Yellow Cab, then call Pop-A-Lock back to cancel. 15 min after I call Yellow Cab, I have my keys. read more

I had a great experience with these guys. I would give it 5 stars, but my experience is based off of the service I got once from a single team member and I know that there are many out there...so I can't speak for how everyone else there is. I needed a jump and my insurance handled it and called these guys. It was probably just luck of the timing, but the service guy showed up in about 20 minutes when the insurance company ETA'd it at over one hour. Not only did he jump my car, but he ran a couple of other checks for me (like on the alternator) and gave me some tips/advice on the situation and hybrid cars in general (mine is a hybrid) from issues people with the same car had experienced. He spent an extra few minutes talking about recommended parts, pricing and whatnot since he used to work in an auto parts store. Overall an excellent experience. Thanks! read more

This may be mostly the insurance companies fault that I waited over 2 hours for someone to show up - with two different phone calls, I'll write a review on their page after this. The first time I called for someone, neither the insurance company or pop a lock told me that no one was available so I sat around for an hour waiting for someone to show up. I had told the insurance company in the first place that I needed a new key and my car is already unlocked. After another hour, (eta was 30 mins) someone finally comes and says that he can only unlock the car, he can't make a new key. He then told me I need a bigger address number for the house bc we "live in the boonies". Note that I did add the description of my car and that it was parked on a gravel driveway between a pt cruiser and a suburban. Guess he didn't wanna check those notes. The man spoke with attitude and he just came off as really rude. I am completely turned off by this company as well as my insurance company. I'll be looking elsewhere if I ever lock my keys in my car. read more

Then, he could not get the spare tire off of its holder, so he said he wasn't getting paid enough and left. Next day our service called him again, and he lied that our spare did not fit! My roadside assistance service dispatched Pop-A-Lock to jump-start my car. I was very pleased with how quickly they arrived, especially at 8 o'clock on a Sunday morning. However, the guy they sent (can't remember his name) only tried to jump me once with a pretty wimpy portable charger, and when that didn't work on the first try, he immediately said that there was nothing else to be done and that he'd call me a tow truck. Barely gave me time to say a word, and didn't seem to care about trying everything possible before handing me off to the next guy. In short: service was pleasantly quick, but less than satisfactory. I called Pop-A-Lock after the locking mechanism on my 2004 Honda Accord stopped working with my key hole on the drivers side door. The woman who answered my initial call was polite and told me that it would take an hour for them to send an associate. It took an hour and half--minor inconvenience--No big deal because I didn't have anywhere to be this afternoon. He shows and it takes about fifteen minutes for him to work the lock up through the door. I give the guy credit because he had to get creative getting the door open. As soon as the door opens the alarm goes off. No big deal, I'll put the key in and start it up and the alarm will go away. Nope. It continues to blare in the parking lot. I ask the associate if there is anything he can do and all he replies is that it's above his pay grade and hands me the bill. My door's open but I can't drive the car! He doesn't offer any solution, gets in the car and leaves me stranded. Tl;dr- they were late, unprofessional, and did the bare minimum. Waste of money. read more

Do not use these people! They were supposed to fix my flat tire as I sat on the side of 71 In Spicewood in 95 degree heat with my son. I was told they would arrive 50 minutes later at 3:37. That came and went - I learned they canceled the call as they didn't have a mechanic - but didn't bother calling me or Liberty Mutual Roadside. This placed me and my son in potentially dangerous position and had to wait another hour for a reputable and reliable company to help. The person at Pop a Loc could have cared less. Called State Farm roadside assistance who sent pop-a-lock to help with a flat tire. After taking 30 minutes longer than stated, Scott showed up who wasn't very pleasant. He told me that the kit Audi provided me with wasn't correct and pulled what I needed up online. I told him I wasn't sure what I was supposed to do. I have had one flat tire previously and they had no issues using the tools. He said he would be unable to assist and said he would contact state farm for me. I was still standing outside my vehicle, I thought he was going to go to his vehicle, call and return with an update on what would happen next. But no... he just sped off in his car without giving me any information on what needed to happen. I contacted state farm and they confirmed he did not call and should have contacted SF with me to provide an update. I contacted the office of pop-a-lock and they seemed to care less about what had happened. I know consumers have no control when going through their insurance but please be aware of choosing to pay this company for terrible service. read more

This company is without scruples and scams vulnerable customers. In July my friends and I went to San Marcos to go tubing. I lost the keys to our rental car. We did not call the locksmith recommended by the tube rental place, but deferred to the rental car company's choice. That was a huge mistake. Getting a locksmith to come out and make a key should have been covered by Chrysler (Dollar Rental said that), so Dollar Rental called Pop a Lock. They assured they would come out, open the car and make a key. A guy did come out, but could only open the car. He was dressed like a homeless person and when we asked why they would send him out, when he was unable to make us a key, he stated, "I've only worked here for two weeks and have been sent on so many of these calls where people are expecting me to make a key, but I can't do that." They knowingly caused us to lose out on the warranty coverage provided by Chrysler and left us stranded anyway. Thinking we needed to stick with this company (for the sake of the car rental company), we waited 3 more hours for them to send us someone to make a key. They told us a different story ever 30 to 45 mins: -Yes, someone is coming out at 5:45, it will cost $300 -Yes, someone is coming out at 6:30, it will cost $365 -No, no one can come out -We will have to come out tomorrow at noon and it will be $365 -Okay, we will have someone there at 7:45 -Nope, not till noon tomorrow -Okay, someone will be there at 9pm -Ooops, he will be there at 9:45 This left 4 women out in a park, at night, alone, 3.5 hrs from home We finally called AAAA Locksmith (http://www.bestsanmarcoslocksmith.com/). They came out and made a key in 20 mins. It only cost $165. The employee was professional and helpful and even gave us coupons for food at a local business. Pop a Lock is a scam company. They have zero concern for the customer, not even their personal safety. If they cared, they would have referred us to a locksmith that could help us and would have told Dollar Rental they were not the best choice for locksmith service. read more
