Just as I remembered - an extremely crunchy exterior from an overload of breading with a salty flavor profile andp no depth. Fast casual-wise, KFC has a bit more flavor but no one can unseat Maui's Minit Stop chain. The side of red beans and rice was surprisingly good with subtle smoky notes. Coleslaw got tossed and the spouse consumed the biscuit. OVERALL: I'd be ambivalent with a Maui location (for variety's sake) but not elated. read more

I have visited this location a few times now and I can say that we have not had a bad experience. We have had a mediocre experience, but not bad. The service is excellent - quick, kind, easy - and I have always gotten exactly what I ordered. The food quality had be great, especially considering the limited places on the island that I seem to be able to find decent fried chicken! The restaurant itself - for a good court location - is in excellent condition - clean, well-stocked, and plenty of seating. We have been here during both busy and slow times, and they seem to manage themselves well regardless. They do talk a little bit of smack behind the counters, which is unprofessional, but certainly not enough to prevent me from returning and it doesn't change the quality of My food. Haha! read more

Great Food--Not ideal service. We rarely eat Popeye's, so we don't know the ordering process well, but the ladies at the counter/register weren't quite understanding what it is we were ordering at all. Local women they were, aunties for sure, so there may have been a language/accent barrier, but we really tried to be as plain as we could when we ordered still. We ordered "The Chicken Sandwich #1 combo, large, with 2 sides and a drink" and "12 piece boneless wings combo with 1 side and drink". She proceeded to tell me combos come with 1 side, not two, though the menu very clearly said large combos come with 2. So, I was up-charged for wanting my supposed 1 side to be large, when I in fact was given 2 sides after all. And my husband's wings were not boneless, nor did he receive his drink or want to go back and ask while there was a long line for ordering--that just felt rude to us. So, after just shy of $40 for 2 combo meals that we struggled to order AND half of it was incorrect or missing, we'll eat elsewhere next time, unfortunately. In short; Our qualms are with the ordering process itself, not the food. Prices suck, but it's Hawai'i with 2024 prices... everything costs several bodily organs worth. The ladies at the counter did not seem to know the menu very well because they kept looking at the menu itself rather than the screen to understand what we were ordering. You need base access to visit this Popeyes location. It's hidden away in a food court on Hickam. If you're not familiar with the area, it can be very confusing. The food court is very clean and has other establishments like Starbucks and Subway. This location has Mac n Cheese! I don't know any other Hawaii location that has. They don't charge sales tax. They gave me mash potatoes instead of the Mac n cheese I ordered.....so check your order. I'll be back for the Mac n cheese! read more

Not all Popeyes are created equally. This Popeyes is located at Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam (in the Hickam food court). You can count on them to serve their crispy and flavorful fried chicken but the main difference between this location and the ones off base is that this location offers fish products and mac and cheese as a side. My personal favorite fish product is the Cajun fish. They also have a Shrimp Po' Boy and Blackened Tenders-not available at the Popeye's locations off base. Iced tea (both sweet and unsweetened) is serve yourself on the table in front of the registers. The rest of the fountain drinks are also serve-yourself at the shared fountains in the food court across Subway. Customer service is good. It's apparent that for a lot of employees, English is their second language, so practice patience if you have to repeat yourself several times while ordering. Also, if you go during peak times, expect a long line as there aren't many other choices in this little food court. This is my favorite Popeye's location specifically because of the extra seafood options. Don't get me wrong-I love their chicken but it's always nice to have other options on the menu besides their chicken. read more

Cravin chicken. Was in the area, so decided to stop in. Lines at all restaurants were long, it was the lunch rush. Our line went down pretty fast though, I think it's an every day thing so there prepared. Got some original chicken, fish and popcorn shrimp. I was hungry, ok...lol The chicken was excellent, just the way I expected from Popeyes. A little heavy on the batter though, but still good. However, the fish was a little thin and dry. It fell apart as I picked it up, I think it was a little overcooked. Most of the popcorn shrimp was batter with hard to find shrimp. I should have stuck with my instincts, chicken only. The fries were super stale and crunchy and cold seemed like they were sitting out all day , our chicken sandwiches were not fresh at all supper crunchy and not so warm and on top of that biscuit were hard as a rock. Very unacceptable and unsatisfying. Contacted the manager there and all she could do was offer a free meal no refund or anything almost $40 wasted. I will not be returning there . read more

I just got home and cannot get past the terrible, old food served. I ate there tonight Dec 1, 2022 at 6pm. Ordered a chicken sandwich ( which used to be my favorite even over chick fil a) and a coke. The sandwich was so old and soggy. The mayonnaise had melted and was clear except for some semi opaque dabs hanging outside the bun. The breading was actually tough, rubbery and soggy. I don't know what type of system they have or how long they keep food in the hot rack but this sandwich should've seen the dumpster at least half an hour earlier. Prices increased, size decreased and quality hit the bottom of the barrel. Stomach feeling weird now. I only ate it as I was starving having got off of a long flight. Unbelievable! Maybe DOH should make a visit around the same time on another day. read more

I am a girl from Brooklyn who spent eight years in the south. This means that when someone says "sweetened or unsweetened" in regards to my tea the answer is always without a doubt sweetened even if that means an extra 500 calories so when I saw the big giant sweet teas sitting out at Popeyes I knew that it was meant to be. I ordered a healthy selection of a sweet tea and a biscuit and had it with honey. Diabetes special for one. I'll be shopping for mumus shortly. read more

I like popeyes! I can't afford to eat it regularly because then i would just be obsessed and develope cholesteral problems. Although popeyes is always one of those unhealthy foods you eat just because you have a cravings. For those of you who thought utensils are a must, you're wrong, theres nothing like taking a meaty, crispy, oily, chicken drumstick and dunking it into a pool of mashgravy mixture. The biscuits here are A-Ok but i could seriously survive just off a whole barrel of drumsticks and a tub of gravy. Yes, i know. these are true fat boy problems of the first world. Why many of the locations are on base, confuses me. There are actually many unhealthy fast food places on base. I wonder if its because special discounts these fast food places get for serving near or on a military installation. Either that or the government is trying to fatten up the troops. Usually they are pretty fast, but make MANY mistakes. Sometimes chicken is overcooked to the point it is like jerky. Definitely check your order before leaving!! Always packed at lunch time. read more

When we ordered our food there wasn't enough already made so they had to prepare additional food, which is fine, but the manner in which the additional food items were delivered was extremely rude. First time eating Popeyes and it's pretty good. I've only eaten at KFC, which is basically the same. We got the 9 piece meal with drumsticks, chicken wings, mashed potatoes, fries, and biscuits. We placed our order for some chicken and fish. We requested only dark meat ( specifically 3 legs and 3 thighs) for the chicken. The worker repeated our order then said they were out of legs and gave us the option of substituting wings for legs or wait 15 minutes. We opted to wait. 31 minutes later, they gave us our order (4 legs and 2 side breasts). I watched the girl handling the chicken go through every breast on the rack a couple of times and found no thighs. She did not say a word to us, shrugged her shoulders and put two side breasts in the place of the thighs. They left most of the order on the counter in boxes while they were waiting for the legs to finish cooking. At least the fish we ordered was good. We have been patronizing this location for a few years and the first year was great.. The past two years the service and quality has been subpar. I believe some changes may be needed to bring this place back to good. read more

This is one of the busier restaurants at the food court. In terms of food quality everything is pretty fresh considering it's a Popeyes. Line was a bit long during lunch hour but got my order and food pretty quickly considering the volume of customers. I had the 3 piece tender meal with cajun fries. This is by far the best popeyes on the island. I am personally a KFC fan but I enjoy this popeyes for their wonderful service. Been meaning to write this review for quite sometime. My visit occurred the 19th of July. Went during the lunch rush to get food for me and the kiddo's. The line was long, which is understandable at lunch, so we waited. Got to the front to placed my order and asked for the strawberry pie. The cashier begins to tell me they no longer serve it. I was bummed they had taken it away so soon as I had just tried it from that same location a few weeks before. The problem occurred when the cashier/manager began to argue with me stating "they haven't had it for months" and "no other location on the island has served it since April" I then told her it wasn't a big deal and tried to continue with my order. I guess she had a soapbox that day because she insisted on telling me again they hadn't served it in months. I then told her I just had it a few weeks ago as my husband and I had grabbed a bite at the food court before he left to go TDY June 30th. Therefore I knew what I was talking about and I had ordered it at another location as well. Then she started to get combative saying I was wrong and that they discontinued it months ago. In my mind I thought to myself hmmm... Were you there when I ordered it? Did you serve me that day? Do you know the current supply of items at ALL the popeyes locations on the island? NO. They could have quite possible still had some supply of it in stock and continued to serve it until they ran out. It wasn't until I told her to drop it and handed her my card she stopped talking about it an rung my order up. All the while she's holding up the line to argue with me about a strawberry pie???? Totally unprofessional and I agree with the many other yelpers they really need to work on customer service. Will I visit again?
