Oxtail plate with one side (potato salad) - $25
    Jenna S.

I'm a sucker for Oxtail so I had to try their Thursday special. The Thursday special is the oxtail bowl with ($17 for two bones), but it was sold out when we pre ordered in the morning. They only had the three bone plate with a side for $25? Anyways, the oxtail flavor was okay, and it came with only two bones (fairly good size). The oxtail was very fatty and the actual portion of meat was small. One bone was tough and gristly. They could have cooked it a bit longer. The restaurant is large and there was a fairly long line at opening! I recommend placing your order online ahead of time.

Base access is required Located at the old Taco Bell/ Pizza Hut building, this business takes up the whole area. There's plenty of parking and seating (inside N outside), so you don't have to worry about that. There can be a wait because food is made to order. I've gotten the catfish, ribs, fried shrimp to date. Everything so far I've really enjoyed. The sides (mac & cheese, greens, etc.) are portion controlled and on the smaller side. So far I have added some seasoning to all my sides but nothing crazy. There is a small stand where you can add salt, pepper, to some hot sauce. Overall four stars. It's a nice southern food style restaurant and they have daily specials. And if you don't want anything heavy they offer those fruit bowl and protein shakes. M

Smokin' Wings on Wing Wednesday is the best spot on this side of the island. However Fish Friday is a must try to start off the weekend right. The catfish is fried to perfection and the southern seafood seasoning brings your mind back to the Dirty South style cooking and seafood favorites. Highly recommend Smokin'Wings for your fish and chicken plates. Service is always pleasant and served with a smile. Good vibes and great customer service...

Not the fastest but when it's this good you ain't gotta be. I was extremely pleased with my food. Some don't get it right: too salty, seasoning covering the taste of bad fish.... This place hit all the marks!

On Hickam AFB, in the terminal, conveniently located next to the JBPHH fitness center. What set this place apart for me was the collard greens; made with smoked turkey legs. I'm not from the south and my first introduction to collard greens was in the Army. I was so puzzled when other soldiers got a sparkle in their eyes talking about mom's collard greens. I then visited family in Georgia and had good collard greens. That's when I understood. This is real collard greens, not the slop the Army served. As for the fries and shrimp, they were okay. Liked the fact the shrimp were large and not overcooked. The fries felt and tasted like they'd been sitting under the heat lamp for a bit. The lady that helped me was friendly and right off the bat let me know things they were out of. It was about 30 minutes prior to closing so I got it. There's a large sitting area, inside and outside, which was clean and simple. I'd like to come back for the wings.

I really enjoyed the food I ordered here. The service was very good and the flavor was excellent! I tried the cat fish and the crisp and light batter on it was so good! My friend who grew up in Tennessee loves their chicken tendies, bbq pulled pork and their Mac and cheese ! She says their Mac and cheese and honey mustard sauce tastes so good it's like Jesus Himself made it! Yeah!! I'm coming back to try other things for sure!

Catfish plate, with sides of collard greens mac & cheese came with cornbread and tartar sauce

Omg.... This place. It has a HOLD on me! I've gotten the jerk chicken plate (always with the collard greens and Mac & Cheese as my sides) and today I got the catfish plate.... It was AMAZING! The only downside to eating here is depending on what you order... it could take FOREVER for your food to come out, but all is forgiven once that food hits your lips. Delicious. Everyone who works here is also very nice

The most flavorful wings are served here. No other wing place can compare. The only problems is you have to have military base access to get it and the hours. A coworker told me about it and I had to go check it out. The restaurant has plenty street parking available. You will also find a seating area before you enter the restaurant. The workers are friendly and super nice. They gave me time to look over the menu and make a selection. Of course I had to try the wings. I ordered the mango wings, fried fish, shrimp, collard greens, mac n cheese, and ribs with the kool aid. The kool aid sells out fast. You will definitely want to get there early. Once it's sold out it's gone until the next day. The wings were everything from hot, fresh, well seasoned and not too spicy or sweet. I was licking up my fingers tearing these wings up. The rest of food was just as amazing. You will have to make yourself not come here. When you try it you will be soo hooked on the flavors.

This is the best soul food I've had since being on this island, hands down! I ordered the catfish and shrimp plate for myself and the wings for my son. We ended up sharing both plates because the food was just that good. We waited about 30 minutes to receive the food after ordering but it was worth it. I would definitely visit again when in the area.

I loveeee this spot. I usually get lunch her when I'm at work since it's pretty close. The owners are super friendly . My favorite day is Thursday because it's oxtails day!!!! But everything else is super yummy. My other favorite is the catfish plate. I usually get everyone from works order as well so this day they ordered the catfish plate, jerk chicken and some lemon pepper wings and oxtails of course. They said it was good and the only comment was wished they gave more oxtails. My go to spot for lunch!! I suggest calling in your order because they get suuuuuppeerr busy and I'm impatient so I don't like to wait. They also do online order and sell koolaid .

Probably the worst place to get chicken wings from. Food is great can't complain but the service sucks dick. They cater to some more than others. What ever happened to equality? We are all paying customers. It ain't that hard to fry some chicken and toss it in sauce. I don't see why the 10 customers that got there after me get their damn food before me. This is ridiculous it's probably because my eyes are a little slanted and I'm yellow. But that don't mean that I don't love chicken and collard greens. Y'all chicken fryers need to do better especially crushed ice working the back

Smokin' Wings and Southern Things would probably be more popular if it wasn't on post. This place is the epitome of a simple hole in the wall place that gets the staples in its name sake right. Catfish seems hard to get right at some places around the island, but not here. Sure they could be a little more hospitable and friendly (to get the "southern" theme aced) but the food is a GIFT! I'm told there is another location, but I went to the one on Hickam at the Space A terminal. I will be back as long as they are open. It cost me around $25 for this plate and a large sweet tea. It doesn't matter If you can't cook but you are craving this or if you can and you are just pressed for time.... Just save yourself the stress and hop on over to the terminal and grab yourself some chow. Also they were out of most of their menu, but the other location is most likely fully stocked. They have a number to call ahead for pickup. Please check the website.

I was surprised to see the place pretty empty on a Friday night around 7. I went to the bar to order take out and the guy working was really nice and took my takeout order. I will say it smelled amazing in the restaurant. Food took about 10 mins to come out. The catfish was great, two pretty big pieces very well seasoned. The Mac and Cheese and Yams was also pretty good. I will say the Mac tasted better than it looked and I only say that because at first glance it didn't seem to have much cheese but I was wrong. The corn bread tasted good but was dry. I warmed it and added some butter and that didn't trick. The only thing I personally wasn't a fan of was the greens. They weren't necessarily bad but like Keith Lee says I don't know if I'm their target audience. They tasted a bit sweet and there was something else in the seasoning that I wasn't a huge fan of but couldn't quite put my finger on. I almost forgot the plate came with "yellow seasoned rice" which is under the fish on the Mac side. Honestly it's a free inclusion so not super fair to judge it. Everything in the picture was about $47 bucks. In my opinion that's a bit high and I'm guessing that's because it's in Waikīkī. I definitely plan to go back especially to try the Happy Hour, and I'd like to dine in to see how that goes.

Banana Pudding: 0/5…read more I was grabbing breakfast nearby at the Koa Pancake House but I've seen that this place had banana pudding on their menu. So I swung by on my way out to the parking lot for a sweet treat for later. I have to say this is probably one of the worst banana puddings I've ever had. It's one of my favorite desserts so I've had plenty from all over the country. If it's on the menu, there's a 90% chance I'm going to buy it. Their's tastes artificial. The pudding was reminiscent of a snack pack, but something about it made it taste worse. I don't know if it was additional sugar or how long I had been sitting in their fridge, but the pudding was pretty bad. There's maybe three or four nilla wafers on the bottom and one on the top for presentation. For the few wafers on the bottom, there was a slice of banana on top. Potentially totaling maybe three slices. For those slices, though, the banana was not ripe. You could tell the banana slices needed a few more days before use. Overall, I was wildly disappointed. I would highly not recommend their banana pudding, which is such a shame. I wished I loved it but sadly 0/5. The best part of the whole pudding was the 4 soft wafers. If that's the case, that should tell you something.
