All the rage about the new chicken sandwich got me thinking, I hadn't had Popeyes since I was 13 years old (a long ass time ago), had the day off today and decided to make the 45 minute drive to the nearest one which is on I-95 heading North in Kennebunk Maine. Upon arriving I noticed quite a line, my excitement grew until we got closer to the counter and noticed all the signs stating that the chicken sandwich was not available at this location. What the heck. Decided on the 5 piece spicy tender meal which came with one side and a biscuit, I chose the fries as my side. Portions were huge and I actually scored a 6th tender in my meal, that's where the excitement stopped. The tenders were bland and barely spicy, there was just no flavor at all, it was just crunchy plain chicken, so disappointing, the Cajun fries were just ok, crispy, but nothing to write home about. The biscuit was delicious, had I known, I would've just ordered 4 of those and called it good. Super pricey, (2) 5 piece tender meals and a medium drink for $26, not worth it. All in all, it felt like a wasted trip, I didn't finish my meal, it just wasn't worth it to me.

    Fried goodness.

Love me some Popeyes. Everything is good here, but tonight I had the chicken po' boy sandwich. Chicken was perfectly cooked: tender in the middle with a perfect batter-dipped and bronze-crispy coating. Fresh shredded lettuce, mayo and packet or two of ketchup on a soft hoagie bun cushioned the chicken and made for a great transport vehicle from plate to mouth. Of all the food choices offered at this rest stop, Popeyes is by far the superior choice. One star hit for the wait time. Most 2 and 3 piece meals were ready on the spot. My po'boy had to be specially prepared. Worth every bit of that 4 minute wait!

Popeye's Chicken and Biscuits. 1030am. Friday. Breakfast. "One piece each?" I ask. "Ok, one piece each." Order a spicy thigh and it comes with a buttery and fresh biscuit. The chicken skin is the crispest I've ever had. The meat is tender and juicy. Fatty and oily deliciousness is in my hand. The grease runs down my paws. The biscuit survives mere moments longer. The moist and buttery morsel is gone. So delicious I burn the sh-t out of the roof of my mouth. That's the price of ordering fried chicken and biscuits for breakfast. One of the best breakfast decisions I've ever made.

They are always "out of food" at 6:45 pm when I pass through traveling. Apparently it's hard to fry more chicken.

I'd been coming here for at least 20 years, and in recent years it had been a favorite spot to eat outside when traveling with my dog. But now, we are not allowed to eat outside with a dog. Instead we had to order to-go and then walk down back to a 'dog area' which is a spot to the left of the building, below the parking area with one picnic table and some chairs in the woods. It was a beautiful sunny day, but we were getting eaten alive by no-seeums, which is not a nice experience when paying $100 for 1 meal with 6 scallops, 4 small pieces of fried fish, fries and slaw, an order of onion rings, a small clam chowder, and 2 beers. And $50 for a small lobster, an ear of corn, and an iced tea. I get that this is a tourist area, but $12 for a beer in a plastic cup and a $7.50 up charge for 6 scallops while being banished to a buggy spot that made eating very uncomfortable is a big no thank you for me. Crossing this place off my list, sadly. The upgrades and changes to this place are not a bonus at all. I'm sad that a place I always felt was friendly and welcoming is now overpriced and we all felt like we were being treated as second class citizens.

Our waitress was hands down amazing, because when my mom asked for water, she remembered that she didn't get ice and asked her she wanted ice in her water, which I thought was such a thing to remember. She was super friendly, and I made sure to tell her that at the end that I thought she was awesome. I got the chicken sandwich and the onion rings and they were both delicious. My mom got the taste of maine. The only thing that I think she would have changed is the clam chowder had a lot of potatoes in it.i think she wish it had more clams. But overall it was great

Both were exactly as we had hoped. The free valet parking was also a bonus. Regarding the actual food, for new it was a Greek Salad with grilled chicken and my dinner partner had the lobster roll. The salad was just a salad, the lettuce was not the freshest and the dressing was sparse, but the chicken was well grilled and juicy. My friend said the lobster roll was good as it did not have large chucks of celery, and the flavor of the lobster was good. She said she has had better and she had worse. Again, if though want pubs food with a drink and a great view, this is the spot. If you are seeking a great and flavorful meal, I would look elsewhere.
