This is a wonderful place to hold an event, gathering, fun night of bowling or come for a fundraiser. Amy and the staff here are so accommodating and dedicated to providing a great customer experience. It's an older venue, but a classic set up for bowling and a variety of options for food and drink in the bar area or party rooms. The pizza served here is really good and has a lot of cheese. My favorite is the thin crust sausage pizza. It is great that you can rent different sized rooms here for events and have them catered well right on-site. When we arrived , the employee at the front desk ignore us for a while ( there was no other costumer around) when we asked for a lane and shoes, he was very hesitant to provide the service we requested. Keep in mind there was only one other lane being used, everything else was available. When we attempted to extend our game for an another hour, he immediately told us there's no availability. The only thing that was positive about the experience was the food. Pizza had a lot of sausage, fried pickles were really good. I understand not everyone is friendly however we were all very uncomfortable and felt unwelcome. Maybe if you are a pro player, they will treat you better. read more

The bowling alley was very clean. The workers were very nice and took pride in their work. They have a restaurant/bar and with lots of TV's so you can have a drink and watch the game. They also have a banquet room. This was my daughter's first time bowling. We asked to use the gutter guards so we didn't have to worry about (any of us lol) getting gutter balls. We played two games and had a great time. The machine was hard for us to use but Joshua helped us anytime we needed anything. There was some white powder on the floor and two different guys were there cleaning it up and vacuuming and wiping it down. You could tell they take pride in their work and want the bowling alley looking immaculate. The food is ok it's about on par for normal bowling food. The food service can be slow. The bowling lanes are solid they keep them well-greased. The bar isn't very good. My woman's club held a very successful bunco fundraiser at Poplar Creek Bowl & Banquets. We used the Chicago Room for our event and a smaller room as a welcome/registration area. BTW--the Chicago Room has an outside patio! Amy Wiel, Events Manager, was very accommodating and a delight to work with. The last several times I've tried to get a lane, it's only gotten increasingly more difficult. I've even called to see if lanes were open and the attendant confirmed there was, so I show up 10min or less later and he says there's nothing available for over an hour. Came here for first time on a Saturday afternoon. My wife has been here before years ago. Place was clean. Service was very friendly and attentive. Wife remembered she had chicken and jalapeño pizza here last time she came. She remembered it was good, so, we tried it this visit. Pizza was tasty. We ate it all. Also had a couple drinks. We played 2 games of bowling. The only negative is they don't have automatic lane bumpers. They are either up or down manually. No big deal, made it so my wife can't cheat lol. Great food from Bar Down Sports Grill! Really nice, large, up to date bowling alley. It's very clean and they have a lot of lanes. They even have servers that come to the lanes to serve you! Not to be that type of person or a "karen" but I came here with family on a sunday night at 7:30 and was almost turned away because "the manager said to stop letting people come in at 7:30". We were given a lane next to a league that was very loud and the workers had attitude and when dealing with us. The workers at the bar were friendly but very unprofessional. The food was pretty good but expensive for what it is. Our first game had ended and we asked to play another but we were told since they closed in 45 minutes we were not aloud time to play a second game. I believe that is enough time to play a second game. When we first arrived we were told it was $7 per person per game but for 6 people and one game the total somehow came out to $72. SERVICE/SUPPORT ANIMAL ACCESS: I'm posting this as my experience at Poplar Creek Bowl. I don't know if service animal owners have ever tried to enter and been turned away. I was at Poplar Creek Bowl today for all of 2-3 minutes and no further inside the building than a step or two waiting for a friend. The manager saw me with my dog, who was harnessed and sitting calmly by my side at the door. The manager, from about 20 feet away, yelled over to us, "Why is that animal in here?" I didn't want to make a big deal, so I just said "Waiting" and pointed to my friend who had just spoken to him and was heading back so we could leave. We would be back out the door in seconds. We had no intention of bringing the dog further inside and we were not visible to any other area of the bowling alley. The manager then started toward us and said, "We don't let animals in here." The tone of his voice and movement toward us was very intimidating. He wasn't asking if my dog was a service animal. My immediate thought was to wonder if he would actually deny a service dog access. Did he know the law or not? So I called back, "He's a service dog." (My dog is a support animal, well behaved, and presents himself with the same seriousness as a service animal.) The manager stopped coming toward us but replied, "I don't care. We don't allow animals." I called back that he should care because it was the law. He turned away and we proceeded to leave. I didn't want a confrontation, and I have never had one before about my dog. I don't bring the dog to places unless access is stated or given. We don't just walk right in. Most place actually invite us in. We would have been gone in seconds if the manager had taken a moment to just observe the situation. Instead, I now know that Poplar Creek Bowl "doesn't care" if you need a service/support animal. We won't be back -- ever -- to bowl, to eat/drink or to rent the banquet space. I hope the manager learns the law before some one teaches it to him the hard way. read more

Worst response to a "re-opening" there possibly could have been. Basically no balls and the staffs response was "sorry that's what we have". Even worse is their "ball sanitation station" which no one touched the entire time we were there. Meaning that the reason there are no balls in simply because the staff has no interest in cleaning them. Complete joke... read more

I would give this place less than one star if I could. I booked a party for 10/23. We showed up to set up and the tables we were given we're still dirty, I had to ask where my preordered food was only to find out no one bothered to start making it until we had been there for an hour because they forgot. I asked to speak with the manager twice and got no response. I got in contact with the person I booked the party with and she offered to call me and I agreed and even she couldn't be bothered to listen to my concerns. I would never have a party here again. The pizza was made from fake cheese that contained only food starch , vegetable oil and fat, no dairy and not real cheese so we literally threw it in the garbage. My friends and I bowl here a lot when they have their $1 game deal going on. Usually never have to wait for a lane and always plenty of balls. They also have plenty of pool tables, which is almost always empty. The only thing that's kind of weird is the older gentleman that works there, who tends after the lanes and the balls. He kind of creeps us out, coming over and patting us on our backs when we don't really know the guy at all. So i only live like... walking distance away. Seems pretty clean. No stinky ratty rental shoes here. Service is pretty subpar, as expected, but not rude by any means. Just distracted. Came on a Saturday night with the boyfriend and the place was barely half way full. No blacklight weekend bowling here. I know many people that bowl here often. On the weekends though, we normally always had to wait for some lanes---We usually went in the evenings. I agree with the first reviewer that it's not the "spiffiest" of places, but it works for the most part. My friends buy the beer here, and I hear it's moderately-priced. No one ever really eats the food---it's just cheap, quick stuff, but I'd rather go to a fast food joint honestly. The place is pretty large, with pool tables and some arcade games, and a bar. I went on a Tuesday and the bartender was nice and attentive, she checked in a bunch to see how we were doing , which was very nice. I've been coming to this bowling alley since I was a child. I love this place like a second home. I'm truly grateful for all of the staff that work to help keep the place up and running, and create opportunities not just for the adults to bowl competitively, but to help the youth stay involved in enjoying bowling. If your looking for a place to go bowling with a party and enjoy some good bubble tea afterwards, this is the place your should go. Unlike Arlington Lanes, this place is first come first serve in which they don't seem to take reservations meaning you will get to bowl as soon as you arrive as long as there is an open lane. The establishment is nice and clean and the staff is very friendly. When it comes to paying for your shoes and games, always be wary as there is a $4 credit/debit card limit so make sure you are spending past $4 if you want to use your card. The games and shoes are paid for when your finished up, giving me and my group alot of flexibility in how many games we were going to play. During the summer, I believe that they have seasonal discount where you get to play games for $1 per game, making this the perfect place to go if your out late at night with your friends! Oh, and about the bubble tea, there is a Korean Cafe near by called Coffee Haus which serves Ice cream, bubble tea, popingsu, and other great drinks in which I usually go to before and after my bowling at Poplar. read more

Bowling alleys can be weird in an "I don't know what just happened but did I just walk into 1994 all over again?" sort of way. I have been to Poplar Creek Bowl no more than a handful of times spread over years and each time seems totally unchanged from the last. You know what though? That's not a bad thing. I haven't been the biggest fan of AMF equipped alleys but this one is well kept. The pinsetting equipment only goofed once and the lane wasn't all wonky and unpredictable. The people at the front desk were friendly and the night was relaxed and hassle-free. No pay up front gimmickry like they do at the Elk Grove bowl. No goofy pinsetters like they have at Eskape in Buffalo Grove. Just a low-key night hanging out with my buddies. read more

99 cent games during the summer are the big seller here. If the bathrooms were nicer, they'd be getting a 4-star rating. I've spent many a fond night here during the summer where the games are cheap and the drinking is much more feasibly done given how close it is to home. They recently upgraded the arcade to pool tables which is nice - ya know, if you're into billiards and such. Good deal in the summer, but probably not worth it whence the 99 cent deal is gone. read more
