Since the last time I reviewed Poplar they now have a full bar. The outdoor patio area is going to be available this spring/summer. Last night I had the Chicken Club Sub.. breaded fried chicken, with bacon, lettuce, tomato & onion. I got mayo on the side. It was absolutely delicious! As a side I had their Fresh Fried Potato Chips served with a Sour Cream Onion Dip... oh my!!!! Those were sooooo good! Yum! read more

This place is always packed & I have no idea why. EVERY SINGLE TIME my family has eaten there the service has been very poor & at least one person's order has been wrong. The last time we went everyone was freezing (we had a party of 8). My husband asked our waitress to turn the AC down. She laughed & told him no because she was hot. That was the last straw in our poor dining experience here. Took a year break from it to see if things would improve. We went back last night. We had to ask for drink refills every time. Our waitress seemed to be wondering around a lot not doing anything. It took 45 min to get our food. My son did not get the pizza he ordered, my husbands meal was wrong, my pizza was burnt on the edges & not even warm (I waited to eat when I got home & could put it in the oven). My daughters pizza was warm, but not hot. This was all in 1 evening. We will not be back. The ONLY good thing about this place is the pizza (not the gluten free, it's pre-made & just not very good. Go to take & bake pizza place for GF pizza). So if you really want to eat here, just order it to go & plan on reheating your food. read more

I remember the original location in Pine Ridge area, my cousin lived a few blocks away. Great to see "Buffalo Proud" in KS ! Ordered a small pizza and few beers - pizza was done well, buffalo style and nice touch added with Franks hot sauce ! Poplar Restaurant really lives up to the hype. I believe the one in Andover is one of two in the state of Kansas. I typically go Saturday nights for their Long Island Iced Tea special. The menu has everything. From salads to pasta to sandwiches to pizza, they have it all. While I haven't really explored the menu, I can vouch that the Meatlovers pizza, wings, and sampler appetizer is worth it. They are absolutely delicious. There is alot of family seating, I have yet to see it packed, even 2/3rd full, which surprises me. For those who like to sit at the bar, they have a bar with six barstools and two or three TV's, nothing special. They also have patio outdoor seating as well. Poplar's is also reasonably priced. The only thing that is holding me back from giving Poplar's a five star is the fact that it is somewhat hidden, which may be why it is never packed on special's nights. It is located at the corner of Andover Rd. and Kellogg (US-54), behind a liquor store and Spangles. Even if you are heading north on Andover Road, you may have a tough time finding it from the road behind the gas station that is blocking the building. read more

Great place in Andover to take family and friends for a good meal. We go maybe once a month or so. Recommend any of the the pizzas offerings, charbq wings, ribs (when on special), but the absolute must try is the fried chicken dinner which is just like homemade - similar to Strouds pan fried. read more

Brought home a pizza tonight-- 1/2 supreme, 1/2 cheese. The cheese 1/2 was just flat out burnt on top. The cheese was so burnt it was not edible. We frequent Poplar, so called them up and told them the issue. I was informed 'That's what happens when one side has toppings and the other doesn't. The topping side needs to cook. I'm not sure what you want me to say? I guess I can have the manager call you back when we are not slammed...but that's what she told me to say.' Well, for a $20 pizza....it should be edible. Great food friendly staff. Came in last night and had the chicken parm. It was late so I got a nice booth and had a relaxing meal. Unlike some restaurants the staff was very nice and didn't make me feel rushed even though I was one of the last customers. I had to come back again tonight. I got the KC strip. It was a little more cooked than I had wanted but the flavor was amazing. Overall good local place with a great selection of food!!! read more

Checked it out this weekend and the pizza was great, the service staff made us feel like family over all a great experience. BUT the wings are incredible. We got 1/2 buffalo and 1/2 char B Q. Oh my goodness, this was absolutely incredible. There's no one in the ICT metro that's even in the neighborhood of wings this good. Do yourself a favor. Go and get more wings than you think you can eat and some cold beer. You'll thank me. read more

Food was great! Only minor complaint is that even though I ordered online (super convenient!) 35 minutes prior to showing up, I still had to wait 15 minutes at the restaurant for my food to be ready. But the pizza and loafer were extremely good and the staff was pleasant. read more

I love Poplars but the service to food time is pretty slow. Never disappointed with the food however.

Had a going away party in the patio last night. All the food was tasty, and the service was good. I had the char wings, and they were cooked well and meaty. The cole slaw was so-so. Was a little hesitant to have the party there because I have heard so much about the bad service from friends, but they were attentive and polite. Food took an average amount of time to come out for such a big party. Will return if I'm in Andover again. read more

The waitress was rude, and refused to service with a smile. She waited 20mins to bring us extra sauce for our bread and lemons for our water. And she said and I quote "I only service people who are going to tip me." Obviously referring to the fact we are teenagers, and most likely don't have money to tip her... But after her comment we made sure to leave her with a tip that's hopefully her last. Not that hard to do your job... If you can't I'm sure a teenage would more then happily take your job, which you most likely stole from one in the first place. But the calzones are great! read more

This place was above my expectations. The whole staff was very friendly. Zach our waiter was very knowledgeable with the menu and gave us wonderful recommendations. We took his advice and went with a loafer (similar to a calzone) that we probably should've shared, it was big enough for two and delicious and the chicken fried chicken that was moist and melted in your mouth. The food was on our table in less than 10 minutes straight from the oven. This visit was very pleasant and we will definitely recommend this place to everyone and I will be making a return visit next time I'm in Andover. Great service Zach! read more

Great pizza, good fried chicken, service is fine and they stay very busy at times. Their so called pizza delivery is pretty much non existent. A shame cause I'd order from them more but about 8 out of 10 times they "don't have a driver" they shouldn't advertise deliver in my opinion. Wow. A secret discovered. I have been going to all kinds of restaurants in Andover and around it for a year or so and only just found a jewel. My family gave it a go the other day and were so pleasantly surprised. We did a sampling of their different menu items and were not disappointed. We tried a slice of their pizza with anchovies (there was not an inch of the slice without an anchovy on it), the medium wings (not too spicy but very full of flavor utilizing a dry rub instead of an overly saucy bath), a basket of homemade chips with their homemade dip (you have to try these because they defy description), and a stuffer (another word for calzone even though it is a bit different). All in all the entire meal was great and full of flavor. The chips were hearty and thick and so hard to put down, that I don't think we left one in the basket. The Stuffer was full of sausage, onions, peppers, and mozzarella cheese and was so big, that it just had to go home with us. The tomato sauce that accompanied the stuffer was great, though it should be served warm instead of cold. Other wise it was spot on. We can't say enough about this eatery. The best part was the incredible prices and the quantity you get for the price. Bring an appetite and friends. The owner is super nice and very attentive. I don't know how we missed this so long. I rarely do reviews, but feel compelled to write one for Poplar Restaurant (Andover, KS) My family (My wife and I and our two boys aged 12 & 2) are new to Andover (only been here for 2-weeks) and have heard good things about Poplar, so we decided to try it out (Wednesday evening 8/5/2015). Well the experience was horrible right off the bat, never had a chance to even try the food. Apparently POPLAR IS NOT A FAMILY FREINDLY ESTABLISHMENT. Was greeted at the door by an older woman (hostess/waitress) who seemingly was not happy to be at work. She asked "how many?" I jokingly said "3 and this thing!" pointing at the 2-year old I was holding. Her reply in a displeased tone: "so 4, then?" okay fine... everyone has bad days. She then goes on to inform us that "All she can offer us is a "table with a high-chair." I asked about a booth, she says "NO" Well, our 2 year old is BIG, too big (and too old) for a high-chair. But again, "okay" we'll give it a try. But as we are walking to a table, we are walking by MULTIPLE OPEN BOOTHS. So I ask, "Any way we can just use one of these open booths?" She says " NO, we reserve those for big parties." I look around, there are NO big parties and still plenty of space should one walk in... so I say, "But do you have any big parties." Well apparently that was all it took. This woman gives a LARGE exasperated Groan/sigh and looks around OBVIOUSLY ANNOYED BY MY REQUEST. Only to moan and groan and utter a "well I guess" in a very hateful tone of voice. I had enough at that point and said "forget it!" My family walked out, went across the street to Arby's, where we were actually treated as if they wanted out business. We ate dinner here tonight and everyone with me ordered a variety of different things of the menu. Hubby had catfish, I had pizza, one daughter had spaghetti and another had chicken wings. The food was great and the atmosphere is laid back and down to earth which makes it very relaxing. They had a bunch of different things on the menu. I love variety. Our waitress was really nice and service was good. Killer gluten free pizza AND they have gluten free beer oh my gawd. Ambience is warm and comfortable, staff are super friendly, and menu is expansive. The homemade cole slaw is what you want with that pizza. Um, I only gave them 4 stars because I didn't see anything local on the menu...need to double-check this. Was our first visit. The service was slow and terrible. We waited forever for everything. I had some sort of "loafer" which was over cooked and even brought to the table with black bread because it was cooked too long. Very hard and tasted like burnt toast, so I can't tell you if the philly chees is any good or not. I told the waitress she blew it off. My husband had the CLUB sub which was okay but nothing special. I asked for Ranch for the fried pickles and was told they come with Dill. She even verified that I'd rather have Ranch dip but never brought it. $30 later we were wishing we had gone to Spangles. read more
