    The French Dip
    Brandon G.

My wife and I took our three young kids there for lunch, five people total, and the experience unraveled at every step. From ordering to receiving food, it took about 25 minutes for two sandwiches, two kids pizzas, and a mac and cheese that never arrived. And unfortunately, the wait was only the beginning. The food quality was extremely disappointing. The French dip I ordered was, without exaggeration, the worst French dip I have ever had (photo attached, this was how it came). A frozen grocery store version would have been noticeably better. The kids pizzas were undercooked, with raw dough inside. When the mac and cheese was missing, I told the staff member who dropped off the food. He walked to the back, said nothing to anyone, and disappeared. After waiting another five to ten minutes, I had to walk up and explain the issue again, as if it was the first time they were hearing about it. When the mac and cheese finally arrived, it was just as underwhelming as the rest of the meal. Service was nearly nonexistent. Drinks are self serve, tables are not cleared until you leave, and staff will walk past stacked dirty plates without acknowledgment. The bathrooms were out of paper towels. Overall, there was no sense of urgency, ownership, or basic attention to detail. The best way I can describe this place is a low quality version of Jason's Deli that misses the mark across the board. I gave it a fair shot, and now I know better. If I see a Newk's Eatery in another city, I will keep driving. Subway would be a better option. Gas station pizza from Casey's would be a better option. Save your money. Save your time. Skip this place entirely.

Clean friendly atmosphere. Quick service, bit pricey though. Nice crisp French roll. Macaroni and cheese was a bit disappointing.

Another year, another restaurant pops up to occupy the doomed little building near 47th and Seneca…read more Everything about Sweet Willy's is heavy-handed, from the menu's cartoon cowboy claiming this to be the best barbecue he's had, to the amount of hickory used in the meat that ensures you're going to smell like the woods before you make it back to the car. Going so over the top doesn't help my old barbecue standbys: the pork was on the way to becoming jerky, the brisket was dry and the fat unrendered, and even the sausage had a casing that was too thick for my liking. The ribs, on the other hand, stood up to the smoke well, producing a caramelized crust that gave way to tender meat that came off the bone cleanly. I'm not normally a ribs guy, but it was one of the saving graces of the meal. What Sweet Willy's lacks in panache it makes up for in gusto. The menu is peppered with all sorts of non-traditional applications of barbecue, from poutine to chicken lollipops to tacos, though the most surprisingly enjoyable thing may be the burnt ends, which are tossed in a honey and garlic sauce that is not only more subtle than the KC-style sauces served with everything else, but surprisingly works well with the sugars in the meat in a way that doesn't overwhelm. There's clearly a lot of effort put into Sweet Willy's, but not a lot of confidence, no matter how many "yums" are on the menu. There's some good to be found in places you wouldn't expect, but the brisket and pork are serve as the foundation upon which the rest of the menu is built, so improving them should be the first priority.

Amazing BBQ hole in the wall place! We tried the family pack with 3 meats, 3 sides, rolls and…read moresauce. The garlic slaw isn't too sweet, the sweet potato salad is a surprisingly delicious change from traditional, and the baked beans are the perfect mix of sweet smoky and a kick. Pork, brisket, and turkey are all moist and top notch! The mild sauce is very sweet and the hot sauce has a nice vinegar flavored kick. You need to try this place out for some good Kansas BBQ.
