Location is good along with the boutique atmosphere with a wide selection of eyeglasses. However, I cannot give the 5 stars because they blast loud hip-hop music on the speaker near the front desk. DR. BEVERLY SMITH - Huge shout out!!! I just received THE most comprehensive, informative, absolute best eye exam I have EVER received. Didn't know Dr. Smith till today, but she informed me of some issues that I have had for over 6 years and finally received some answers and ways to improve not only my site, but the health of my vision. I got a new exam from 1-800 contacts for $20 online. My experience here was not awesome. Dr. Wu started things out by turning my head and swiping her gloved hand over my eyeballs to remove my contacts with very little warning. I don't know if that's a tactic, but in general, it's rude and jarring. The exam and Rx for glasses and contacts are very expensive, but they ask over and over again if one has insurance. Yes, people in Alamo can afford it, but that doesn't make the cost ok to jack up so high, then expect people to only order from Poplar (you must ASK for your Rx to take with you). If you have to order contacts, they won't send them to you- but they will send you a text to come pick them up. Mine were delayed, so they offered to ship them only after I asked to cancel, but then I got a text to pick them up the very next day. The order was wrong. What happens after this is just going to make me mad to detail, so I'll summize that everyone is very polite, but at the core of this place, there is a lack of spirit for service to do the right thing. Overall, my impression started out well. They have a great spot with beautiful choices in glasses, a big staff, and an inviting office. In the end, I felt oddly pressured to spend more on extra eye exams (dilate, etc.)- whatever could add $$$ to the bottom line, then frustration over the lack of follow through with my issues over the strong Rx, incorrect contacts, and their process. I don't think the customer is always right, in general, but it's clear, Dr. Wu believes she's always correct. I've no doubt I'll get some kind of response to this review that'll infuriate me further. If you have a lot of time and money to blow on your eyes, then go to Poplar. I ended up with a better, clear Rx for $20 online (yes, this is done now!)- and for only $125 flat, I bought beautiful glasses from Quay in Walnut Creek. They don't charge any more than that for having an Rx added to any of their approved frames. I wish I'd known this before spending over $300 for nothing at Poplar. read more

Can't give less than a star hence the one up here. I went in few weeks ago for an eye exam and was told that I need eye plugs. All good and well till the doctor started putting them in. First off not everyone is habitually poked in the eye with pointy stuff, so when that happens patients may freak out. Doctor was literally throwing her arms in exasperation when I said that my eye hurts. She was visibly mad at me for not 'not reacting' when she did the procedure. Very unprofessional and insensitive! Second off the staff is all over the place. If you ever walked by the store you will always see someone at reception but God forbid they pick up the phone when you call. I spent the last three weeks calling them at different times of the day to check on an eyeglass order. But they didn't pick up. So I walked in today to see what's going on. I was wondering maybe they shut down or something. But nope, I see two people chatting away to glory at counter and ignoring the ringing phone. I asked them about the glasses and was told they are not ready. Ok, I ask why? They checked again to find that the order was voided by the lab. And they chose to not inform me of that. They have charged me for the glasses and didn't feel the need to let me know that glasses are not being made. I encourage everyone to not go there till they hold themselves accountable and change the way they conduct business. I for one, am not going back. read more

The receptionist is a rude young lady. First, she changed the type of lenses my optometrist recommended. And when I asked her to check with the optometrist she was insulted. I needed to make a request the next day, and she said she didn't like the tone of my voice, and hung up on me. Then I was texted that I could no longer return. What happened to the days when salespeople were considerate, kind, and helpful. The worst part is I had the best optometrist and lost her due to the young girl being so rude and insulting to me!!!! read more

Very professional Optometrist the best so far I encountered. There was a slight problem when I went to pick up my glasses a lady who was covering for the resident Optometrist was so lazy did not check if they fitted properly asked me look down the hallway whilst she was standing. Also they gave me a wrong box for glasses not the one that came with the frames from Germany as I had paid for it. I contacted the staff were very helpful said ordered a new box plus get glasses fitted properly when the box arrives. read more
