Do not trust this optometry clinic. Poor bookkeeping of patient transactions. They were unable to record a card payment I was asked to pay. Luckily, I kept my receipt. Unfortunately, they cannot return your phone call as they promised. And they do not alert you to let you know you have a balance. You need to follow and be prepared to have unresolved billing issues for months. Avoid the frustration and headache. The clinic doesn't return calls, so expect to have unanswered phone calls despite calling them at various time of the day. Avoid the headache. Find better treatment elsewhere. I recommend staying away from this place. Poplar Spectacles owes me over $600 for glasses they ruined during the fitting process. I was having an OK experience for a couple of years until Poplar had some issues with their staff and hiring the right people recently. They ordered me new glasses and charged the full amount for the exam and glasses (over $800) and when the glasses arrived during the fitting process one of their employees ruined the glasses and they were no longer wearable. They ended up firing that employee. And instead of providing me options like a refund, they said they would order new ones. I asked that they just order the current glasses I already have but in a new clean version (I didn't want to risk the fitting process again with them). I was extremely patient with them as they said they were working on ordering me the glasses. Then months went by, more than 6 months and I still did not have any glasses (while they still had my money). After 6 months, they stopped calling back and providing any update on "working on ordering me new glasses" I had no other option but to dispute the charge. Unfortunately, since I was trying to give them the benefit of the doubt the whole time and was being patient thinking they would actually replace my glasses, the time lapsed for being able to dispute the charge on my credit card. In the meantime, my bank reached out to them about the dispute and instead of reaching out to me to apologize for their lack of care or any customer support to fulfill my order and what I needed for glasses, they just eventually ordered the wrong pair of glasses (the same pair their employee damaged in the fitting process) and sent those to me in the mail to make it look like they fulfilled their end of the deal with the dispute on my credit card. Another classy move by Poplar and Dr.Shelly Wu. We have sent them a demand letter for the dispute and we will be filing a lawsuit against them as I don't think this is a way to conduct business and I don't want anyone else to have to go through this with them. read more

Very nice and efficient optometrist. It's located in the middle of Alamo plaza, with a lot of parking spots close by. The staff are really helpful, and they have excellent frame options, even though it's a small store. I did my eye test with a very helpful eye doctor, and had lots of time to find the right frames. Feel like this is a good one stop shop where you can use your insurance, get a good test, and find nice frames. I'll be back soon to find some good prescription sunglasses. read more

Just got my new glasses from Poplar Spectacles Optometry. It is very light and comfortable. More importantly, the progressive lens is very clear both for watching TV and for reading emails on my mobile phone in between TV commercials. Not to mention the transition lens and tailor-made clip on, which does an great job of shielding my eyes from the bright California sun. Even though I live in San Jose, I have been here a couple of times with foster kids from Ukraine. My most recent experience was a couple of days ago. Dr. Wu is very friendly, personable, patient. All 3 Ukrainian children that I've brought to her have spoken minimal English. But she spends more than enough time with them to make sure they feel comfortable and get a thorough exam, for which I am extremely grateful since Ukrainian orphans rarely, if ever, see an optometrist. She is highly knowledgeable as well, testing for and explaining to me what symptoms can be present with FAS (Fetal Alcohol Syndrome), which can be common in Ukrainian orphans. And because the girls are returning to Ukraine in 1.5 weeks, Dr. Wu put a rush on making the glasses, producing them within 36 hours, to ensure ample time for the teen to try out the glasses before returning "home". The office staff are also patient and friendly, taking as long as needed to help a reluctant teen from Ukraine to pick out glasses, and even using the eyeglass measurement machine to humor the teens younger sister who was eager to get glasses but didn't actually need any. I'll be taking the time to go to Dr. Wu myself - the drive is worth it! read more

Dr. Wu and her staff are incredible! First, the eye exam. Dr. Wu was very thorough and patient with all my questions, ranging from why my eyes are so dry to her thoughts on laser eye surgery. She explained all the tests, what she was looking for, and what my results were. I felt very educated and got a better understanding of my eyes. Emma was so great and picked out an awesome pair of glasses for me. I'm not sure how she does it, but she knew which frames would look good on me and encouraged me to try things I wouldn't normally go for. Great customer service! Great variety of frames and sunglasses! So helpful and knowledgable! I went into Poplar Spectacles Optometry this morning to see if they were available to help with a simple repair.. I was politely greeted right away and welcomed in. I asked if they would be able to help with a basic repair and the gal who helped me was super knowledgable about what was wrong etc... Rig away she got to work on fixing them (I thought I would have to come back to pick them up..). While my glasses were getting fixed, I chatted with Dr. Wu about how wonderful her selection is. She explained her extensive and well thought -out process of making the perfect inventory selections of frames and sunglasses based on customer demographic and trends. It is apparent that Dr.Wu definitely takes pride in what she does and loves helping her customers. I went to Poplar Spectacles for contacts and two pairs of glasses. I am extremely near sighted and also far sighted. The contacts I received seem to be working OK. The glasses, however, are a different story. After spending thousands of dollars on two pairs of glasses, I cannot see properly out of either pair. I have not been able to use them at all, and still wearing my scratched up old glasses. I went back so many times to Poplar. They were nice each time and trying to help but finally I got tired of spending every Saturday there so I gave up. The new glasses don't work for a combination of reasons: 1. They are super thick lenses. I asked about it and Dr. Wu blamed the frames. I have been nearsighted all my life and very familiar with how frame size and shape can affect the thickness of glasses. These were small frames. Finally after being pressed, she said there was one lens thinner than what they gave me but it was "a very small difference and not worth it." I was very clear when I ordered my glasses that I wanted the thinnest lens possible and I paid over $600 to get them. In my world, every percentage point thinner is a big deal. 2. The bifocals don't have the right spot so it seems I can't see far away when I look up or close up when I look down. I think if you are a straightforward case, I am sure Poplar is fine. If you are very nearsighted and farsighted, you might be in for a challenge. Finally, if you do go there and you have thick lensed glasses, insist on getting the very very highest index lenses as this is not what they provided me. read more

The kids loved her! Based on what I had seen I decided to try her as a new optometrist. She was fabulous! She was very thorough and extremely knowledgeable.
