I always look forward to having a bagel with salmon and cream cheese from Poppy's on my flights to Chicago but this time my experience was terrible and I will not return. Here is what happened: I approached the counter and ordered my bagel. So excited! I saw the lady behind the counter begin to make my request. She did not toast the bagel as requested, but I let that slide. Next she put a gross looking piece of salmon on top of the cream cheese, the chewy kind with all white fat and very little salmon. I kindly asked her to swap that piece, figuring she probably just didn't realize. The next piece of salmon on the stack (and most of the other pieces) looked great. Instead of throwing away the yucky piece she looked at me and then at her colleague and started laughing. She left that one piece of gross salmon and didn't even add an additional fresh piece, bullying me in front of all of the other people in line. I took a photo of her and hope that this review will help you teach her how to treat customers, with mutual consideration and kindness instead of disdain and bullying. She ruined my morning. Gas stations serve better bagels. If you aren't starving, stay away from this place. They ask you to order on an iPad. We ordered plain bagels with veggie cream cheese which we confirmed is vegan. We ordered coffee with Oatly oat milk. We paid. 5 min later, I'm told they have no oat milk. Why sell it then? Another 2 mins later, they have no plain bagel. Again, why is it available in my digital order app? We settle for everything bagel with veggie cream cheese. 10 mins later it's ready. But veggie cream cheese isn't vegan we're told. Did we not ask and confirm?? The lady proceeds to make another everything bagel with plain cream cheese that's also not vegan. Sigh. A quick pick up and take on the plane meal is a Poppy's Bagels. That's if you do bagels. Ask for it to go and take it right on your flight. My egg, bacon & cheese bagel, was much more enjoyable than the food on the plane in the little shoe box. read more

Airport food is already overpriced and a good meal can be hard to find, but this place was a nightmare. We waited over 40 minutes for a breakfast sandwich and a kids breakfast. Everything is basically pre-made and it was not that busy. We literally walked the entire terminal and came back and our food was still not ready. Bagel tasted old. Threw it out after the first bite because I cannot eat old bread, bagels, or pastries. By far the WORST "bagel" I've ever had. It was more akin to a roll than a bagel but that's an insult to rolls. Our flight was at 9am and we live 90 minutes away, which meant we were up at 4am. I should have forced something down at home but alas. We ordered a breakfast sandwich - bacon, egg and cheese - along with a plain bagel with cream cheese and a coffee. Aside from the horrific faux bagel, the fried egg on the sandwich was burnt, I couldn't find any cheese and there were maybe three shards of bacon (which was especially funny given my view of the grill where huge slabs of bacon were cooking). There are three men laughing their b&tts off, desperate people waiting for their overpriced below average bagel sandwiches, and if people dare to ask them if their order is ready (saw this many times) they start speaking their native tongue (French?) and seem to punish the people. Twice now I've seen people come in after the folks who ask about their orders and get served first. In terminal C gate 120's, poppy's bagel is the easiest place to grab a quick breakfast before your flight. They are usual pretty busy so you would think the bagels would be fresh due to the high turn... well WRONG! I have an early flight so I wanted something simple... I grabbed a plain bagel with cream cheese toasted and can barely eat it. The bagel is beyond stale. It's a combo of hard and rubber. You literally have to pull hard to bite a piece off. We aren't talking a little rubbery here... it's full on stale! Newark's food prices are outrageous! The newer restaurants present themselves to be more premium high quality establishments but it's just a facade. Serving stale bagels at 6:15am is inexcusable. Unfortunately for me I don't have time to go back and return my bagel or get something else to eat before my long flight. Not really a bagel, just bread shaped like a bagel served with tasteless whipped (not regular) cream cheese and all served up by the most unhappy people. Lady in front of me ordered the Big Poppy. Their signature sandwich and since its all ordered through the app (ownership obviously doesn't want their people talking to customers) its not fully clear how much you have to do. She forgot to pick her fish. So she got a dirty look from the person making the bagels for her and her family and was scolded for not ordering her fish. The woman just said she'll take it without fish. It was cream cheese, red onion, capers, cucumber and your choice of fish for only $14. Go anywhere else. read more

They put it in a wax bag--- which was really sticky with jelly....when I opened the bag there was jelly all over the outside of the bagel. I don't expect much from an airport bagel. The egg & cheese was fine and fulfilled its purpose: fill up before a flight. The five stars are for service. With all the attitude and stress at the airport (from the curb to the door) it's refresh to interact with people who genuinely want to serve you and make you comfortable. No hassle (or nickel and diming) for extra oat milk, changing my seat, watching my stuff while I dealt with something at the desk, and to top it all off, a free topper on my coffee. I was treated very rudely here. After waiting about 15 minutes for my food and seeing others who came after me receive their orders, I asked one of the young women working there if my order was upcoming. When she asked another woman behind the counter making the sandwiches, we noticed that my order was on the counter. Perhaps I didn't hear her or she mispronounced my name because she did have a heavy accent. But it's no big deal. My bad! I grabbed it and got ready to go when the woman behind the counter began yelling saying that she kept calling my name and no one responded. In the same irate voice she began to speak in another language to the first woman I spoke to which I thought was extremely rude. Too much drama for a sandwich bagel. It wasn't very good either.
