Goldberg's offers deli traditional favorites like fresh-baked bagels, lox, and sandwiches piled high with deli meats, as well as healthier options like salads when you want something lighter in an unapologetically casual ambiance. Goldberg's has been a local staple in Millburn since Tina and Marty Goldberg first opened the doors back in July 1977. The current owners took over in December 2022 and have done a fantastic job keeping the soulful and "old-school" Jewish-style deli spirit alive while making many subtle but meaningful improvements that today's diners expect and appreciate. However, it still has that authentic, "old-school deli" ambiance where you order at the counter then grab a table to wait for your meal and could end up with mismatched silverware. It's charmingly low-key and with a focus entirely on the food. The deli sandwiches are massive and the quality of the ingredients is consistently high. Unfortunately, that also means that the prices are somewhat higher than you might expect. A single deli sandwich served with a small bag of potato chips is in the $20-$22 range, which feels like a bit of a splurge for a casual lunch. That said.. You definitely won't leave hungry and the portion sizes encourage sharing or taking half of your dish home for a second meal. My dining companion and I split the West Orange sandwich, made with corned beef, turkey, russian dression, and cole slaw, on rye bread, which was excellent. We'll definitely be back. PRO TIP #1: Bring your wallet. I do feel obligated to point out that Goldberg's should be rated as a $$ / moderate price range (indicating $11 to $30 per person) rather than a $ / inexpensive price range (indicating under $10 per person). PRO TIP #2: While they don't have a private lot, there is plenty of on-street parking and municipal lots nearby. Use the mPay2Park app for the pay-by-plate meters ($0.50 per hour). Meters operate Monday through Saturday from 8am to 7pm; all street meters are free after 7 pm and all day Sunday. Not sure why there's so many negative reviews (perhaps ownership changed hands recently?), but I got a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich on a toasted salt bagel, two additional bagels, and a hash brown, for delivery this morning to South Orange. BEC sando was perfectly made. Toasty, salfy, chewy bagel, perfectly cooked bacon, with melty white American cheese and eggs. I guess some places can mess this up, but mine was pretty damn good (halfway through I thought, "yeah, I'd reorder this"). And even though DoorDash delivery said it was 25 minutes from pickup to delivery, it was still piping hot when it arrived (even though DD didn't follow the delivery directions and left it in my building's lobby...1/5 rating for DoorDash, which is outside of this Yelp review). Can't speak for the two bagels I ordered yet as I'm going to have them for breakfast tomorrow morning with the missus. The hash brown was moist/damp but that's because it was deep fried and wrapped, so it basically steamed itself during delivery. Didn't know where to start but was pleasantly directed by a guy at the bagel station. Order was simple, got an iced coffee togo and the sando was done. Brought to the car to enjoy. Sando was made just as I ordered it; chewy bagel with slight toast, good amount of ham and the egg was not overcooked. Decent size for the price. Jersey City is a culinary powerhouse, but when bagels are involved, I wish I was back on Union Turnpike in Queens in the 80s and 90s. (Now I'm one step away from claiming I played stickball on Avenue U and attended Brooklyn Dodgers games.) So I will travel for first-rate bagels like the meticulously crafted offerings at Goldberg's. The bagels here are ok. Passable. They are decently chewy and have an alright flavor, but lack a crusty exterior and could be saltier and use more malt syrup. The service is always good, you will be served quickly, and the staff is nice. They aren't a good restauran. I order from them on doordash and after after i ordered from them they were trying to charge my card three different times before they called me which i think is but right you should let the customer know when you are charging them for something else. read more

I've never been here before. Not even before the flood of Ida that destroyed this place. I decided to give them a try. Glad I did. It's now my go to place for Taylor ham egg and cheese bagel on Saturdays. I also get their super cinnamon raisin bagel that I eat as is with nothing on it. The eggs are not greasy and everything tastes so fresh. They charge 4% for credit cards but that's fine. I've gotten a crumb cake from them but I think all these bagel and deli shops get it from the same place because they look and taste the same. There is indoor and outdoor dining. The management is very friendly and keeps on top of the staff. I recommend this place. Also the prices are in line with all the others. I will be back and have already been back. read more

This place has decent bagels but is nonetheless not a place I can recommend. Let's start with the service: Two stars tops.....indifferent and abrupt, except that the staff seems to step up when the owner (who is a very good, and competent, guy) is physically present. One is apt to stand at the counter waiting an aeon for someone take the order...even when no customer is in front of you and two or three guys are working behind it. On three occasions over the past year, most recently today, I waited to the point where my considerable patience (I am actually pretty chill) was exhausted and I just walked out. That was strike 3. Now you might ask, fairly, "why not speak up?" In reply, I would say "because you shouldn't have to." I'd rate the food four star, but definitely not worth the wildly inflated prices or the utter disregard for customer service. Skip it. read more

Their dine in experience was good. Last time we were there we dined outside and had lunch - the salads were really delicious. My son was ill this morning so I couldn't venture out so I placed an order for 3 bagel sandwiches on DoorDash to be delivered. I am a regular DoorDasher and have ordered a lot from many other restaurants. Goldberg's Doordash menu is quite possibly the least intuitive DoorDash menu I've seen. The first thing that appears under the "Bagels" section are standalone individual bagels like "Plain bagel $1.69". Right there within that item there should be a drop down menu to pick "no topping, plain cream cheese, scallion cream cheese, toasted /not toasted etc) but if you want all that you have to notice a separate tab called "bagel sandwiches" with items like "bagel with butter or bagel with scallion cream cheese." Needless to say I was in a rush and didn't have time to look through the entire menu. In any case despite what I ordered - they got my order wrong. Instead of the whole wheat everything bagel that I ordered - I got a plain whole wheat. Instead of onion bagel sandwich - I got everything bagel. For a famous long-standing deli - you would think these basics wouldn't be so hard. And 3 bagels were nearly $30. Way too expensive. Come on guys you can do better. If you ran out of these items, you should have at least called and explained / offered me a credit. I will definitely not order bagels from here again. read more

So I really can't believe this place doesn't have 5 stars. The woman who took my order on the phone was very friendly and helpful, the people who helped me when I went in were great too. I'm not sure who in their right mind goes into a bagel place/deli expecting "ambiance" but the place is a charming old school deli. The food is DELICIOUS! I had Nova with cream cheese, tomato and cucumbers on an everything bagel and it was amazing. My coworker had a sloppy joe which was great too. We ordered two knishes and they're huge!! And very yummy. Also some other reviewer had an issue with the portion size, I don't understand that. The sandwiches were super filling and I thought the pricing was very fair. Took them around 20 minutes to make 3 sandwiches with no one else in the store. A Taylor ham sandwich that wasn't even right also had a bacon piece on it, very unclean. On a Tuesday at about 10AM, I ordered a cheese omelet thinking it met the definition of "eggs any style". I was wrong. The special does not include omelets, and I was charged $11.95. Very hard to chew bagels. Asked for toasted bagels, but received cold twice, which were cold and not fresh.

Goldberg's menu is overwhelmingly large. I had seen some not-so-great reviews on their bagels, so I figured I'd save the calories/carbs of a bagel, and put it towards a whole wheat wrap and hash brown. I ordered the Power House, which was a wrap with egg whites, cheddar cheese and turkey. To add some indulgence, I added a hash brown inside. This was a solid enough wrap. The egg whites were fluffy, the turkey moist and cut thick, which worked well in the wrap. I think adding the hash brown or something was a much-needed add - without it, the texture would have been too much softness. The hash brown added a nice bit of crunch, which improved. In terms of flavor, I don't know that it's reasonable to expect a whole lot given the ingredients, but it felt like there should be something acidic, so I added a little hot sauce, which made for a nice punch of extra flavor. All in all, not a bad breakfast, and the thing must've weighed at least a pound! read more
