The only thing goof was the fried catfish. Dining room staff didn't seem to really know what was going on. My server ignored me or was nowhere to be seen , I eventually resorted to waiving my arms in the air like an air traffic controller to get her attention. Mac and cheese was dried out and pasta hard from being dried up on the steam table. I sent it back and the cook shook his head at me. As if he was the one who was paying for "crap" . Pop's is in a shopping center so the parking lot is huge. Big enough for you truckers looking for a delicious lunch. My wife and I were seated relatively quickly and Lyndsey was our server. She took very good care of us even with the place being super busy. I got the stuffed bell peppers with Lima beans and mashed potatoes as the sides. My wife got Fish n Chips with Coleslaw. They brought us a basket of cornbread muffins and rolls. The food arrived very fresh and hot and man was it good!!! Very very good! The peppers had a wonderful flavor with a little bit of a spicy kick. The best I've ever had. Lima beans were very good as well. Plump and juicy, tasted like they were just picked out of the garden. My Wifes fish n chips were hot fresh and flavorful. The chips were cut like waffle fries, thick too. We shared an salted carmel ice cream Sunday. The ice cream tasted like home made, so so good. Whipped cream on top helped support two maraschino....oh man it was SO good. I was stuffed. The only thing I would suggest is they should have a fork lift to haul you to your car! So anyway, first time here bun for sure it will not be our last. Our new favorite place to go. As you all know my reviews are 100% honest and with that in mind I am going to start my review of Pop's. The restaurant may be easy to miss if you're in a hurry since it's next to a Kroger's but don't pass this restaurant by. You'll be glad you stopped in. In addition to the menu they have specials that change daily. Today the special was chicken and dumplings but I got gumbo and it had just the right amount of heat. The only thing I would ask the restaurant to change, however, is the cornbread. I tried it and to me at least in my personal opinion it was really dry and dense. But again that's just my tastebuds. I'll always miss Stevie B's Pizza. Not that it was the best pizza, but that I always enjoyed it. Well, those days are gone and there's no sense living in the past. I was immediately taken by the changes they've made and looking around at the differences as I was reminiscing. I thought it was a nice, comfortable place. I didn't like how it's set up where you have to walk through the waitress area to go to the bathrooms. That wasn't thought out well. Service was great. Friendly and attentive, but untrained. I didn't like the menu. I felt like it was too rigid and structured. It didn't allow for any improvisation which is necessary for a meat and three kind of place. Simple things like black eyed peas, squash, fried chicken were all absent. I don't remember any pork either. The menu needs to be a living thing as they try different dishes, change up variety, and figure out what the customers want. The stuffed peppers just flat out sucked. They were terrible. Shriveled up peppers with dried up burnt ass meat inside. I didn't care for the gravy either. It came to the table within about 5 minutes of me ordering, so I know it was just burning up in the oven waiting for some fool to buy it. This was right at noon though, not like they had leftovers and sold it at 3:00. I know it wasn't microwaved and you can't cook it that fast. I really love the Stouffer's frozen stuffed peppers you throw in the oven for an hour, so I really expected better than that. I ate less than half of it, yet finished my sides. If the waitress can't notice that, she's not well trained. It didn't occur to her I didn't like it. The turnip greens were the best thing I ate here. They were undoubtedly cooked from fresh leaves and had a lot of flavor. I wish there was a place that actually puts turnips in their greens. That's how southern food is supposed to be cooked, in my book anyway. And what in the world is up with these little cornbread muffins? That ain't cornbread. It's just cornmeal in a muffin pan. Cornbread has to be cooked as a pie in an iron skillet to give it that moist center. That's the only way I like cornbread. The mashed potatoes were great especially with the skin from red potatoes. I didn't care for the powdered brown gravy though. Gravy should be made from beef drippings. Period! It's one of the easiest things they can make, and it's plain to see this was instant mix. Okra is frozen, so I suspect most of the other sides are either frozen or canned as well. Nobody makes their own fried okra anymore do they? The waitress could not tell me much about the menu. She couldn't tell me if the burger was 1/2 pound or what. She just made a shape with her hands. They need training. The menu needs daily specials. The cooks need to learn to cook instead of reheat. The white beans were raw, the deviled eggs were overcooked, and the roll was stale. The fried zucchini would've been good if the pieces of zuchini were larger. Y'all... we were SO pleased with our meal and the service was phenomenal! We felt SO welcomed and Magen our server answered all of our first-timer questions like a champ! They serve complimentary yeast rolls and corn muffins (warm, by the way) with your order. You'll get them before your meal. My meatloaf and HOMEMADE mashed potatoes were SO tasty! I had the brown gravy, which by itself was to die for! I also had the fried zucchini as an additional side - very tasty (order it with ranch dressing). My husband ordered the country fried steak with white gravy (SO Good!) with a side of cabbage and mashed potatoes. Everything was SO tasty! No salt needed for ANYthing! One of the hostesses gave us their loyalty card, where after your 5th meal, you get a free appetizer. It also gives you free stuff for your birthday! The Hubs was able to get a free dessert (a slice of super tasty Butterfinger pie). When we walked in a couple of weeks ago I noticed they still had Christmas trees up, multiple ones. Upon closer inspection, I realized the Christmas trees had been transformed into "Freedom Trees". Seriously? That was a bit of a turnoff to me, but hey, it's a privately owned restaurant and they have the freedom to do as they please. A little kitschy sign adorned the wall above our table... "Today will begin with a little bit of coffee and a whole lot of Jesus." Anyway, on to the food. The complimentary cornbread that you can get before your food arrives is pretty much awful. Glad it was free. I ordered the fish and chips. I tasted the cole slaw and it was warm, which was weird. The frozen breaded fish was removed from the Sysco bag and placed directly into the fryer. My fries were cold. I told our waitress and she offered to get me another order of fries, but we didn't have time to wait. She did not apologize. My other half ordered vegetable soup, which was pretty tasty, and a BLT. The BLT had quite a bit of bacon, but not much lettuce or tomato, which made it dry. It was pretty loud in the restaurant which, thankfully, drowned out the music. On our way out I stopped in the restroom and was greeted by the loud Christian radio that was being piped throughout the restaurant. Not my thing. I ordered via Uber eats and the food and presentation was terrible. Usually, I have good food from here, but someone didn't care on today. The cabbage was dirt color brown and tasted like it sat up for 3 days. My spaghetti was half done now noodles with nasty sauce. My bread was old and has been sitting up as the bread wrinkled in the bread and the bread was flat and soggy. The only edible portion was my Lima beans. I've wasted over $30.00. My husband and I took our two grandchildren to eat at Pop's today after church. We were promptly seated, even though they had a lot of customers. The first problem was we were seated in a window booth, we always ask for a booth, if they are available. This time being seated in a window booth was a mistake. We sat down and we were bombarded by flies. The flies were so bad that I wanted to move. My husband resorted to killing as many as he could. We said something to our server about it. Next we placed our order. We waited patiently for our meals to come out. We expected the food to take a few minutes as they were crowded. My husband ordered one of the Sunday specials, a cheeseburger and fries. I ordered the quiche and salad special. Our four year grandson had water with Mac and cheese. Our four year old granddaughter had chicken tenders and mashed potatoes. The cheeseburger was bland and over overcooked, the fries were cold. The quiche too was overcooked. Our grandson said the Mac and cheese was not good. It had been under a warming lamp. The chicken tenders were so hard our granddaughter could not eat them. We are not patrons that ordinarily complain or ask that something be taken off of our check. However, this time was different. None of our food was what we expected. When our check arrived, I asked if they could take the price of the chicken tenders off of the check. Our server said "she would see what she could do". Soon after, we were told by another lady that " they don't make adjustments just because someone didn't eat the food". She told me that she put a fork in it and it was tender. That was not the problem. She wanted the chicken, but she was unable to eat it. We were offered more chicken tenders. No thank you. They did bring ice cream for both of the children. My second and last time at this place. I thought it was bad the first time, but I had friends that wanted to check it out. So, I went with them, and they all agreed that we'll not be back. The food is of very poor quality and the portions are small. The stuffed peppers are absolutely horrible, I seriously think they make a bunch of them early in the week, and warm them over and over throughout the week. They're nasty, and don't even go with the mystery they call dressing. I've never seen or tasted anything like this before. Turkey, dressing, cranberry sauce and a mystery vegetable. It was supposed to be cabbage. I have never seen cabbage that looked like Pop's cabbage and it tastes worse than it looks. It appeared to be mixed with turnip greens or something. The turkey was good but I couldn't eat my dressing because the weird vegetable juice had drained over into the dressing & ruined the taste. You will leave "stuffed and satisfied" My wife and I have been able to enjoy Pop's several times and found that the service is as good as the food. And the food is really good. I guess I have a couple of favorites. I enjoy the Country Fried Steak and the Chicken Fried Stack (not Steak); it has 3 big Chicken Tenders. I only recently tried the Chicken Fried Stack because I have had the Country Fried Steak a few times - and I -really- like it. I've had the Pot Roast too, but I keep going to the Country Fried Steak. Now the Chicken Fried Stack has about as much food as the Country Fried Steak (it is Huge). The chicken tenders are flavored so well that the meat is moist, tender and tasty. Yes, there are 3 big boneless chicken tenderloins that will let you leave "stuffed and satisfied". The veggies are really good too. I haven't even tried the desserts yet. I guess you figured it out. You can hardly go wrong by ordering most anything here. Oh, I also want to try to the Pop's Chicken Pasta with the spicy cheese. I guess I will have to go back, again! Darn! read more

Great food! Fried catfish was outstanding! Turnip greens were great, as was the Mac n cheese. My daughter ordered the country fried steak and she said it was awesome. I wish I would have tried it, but I'll take her word for it. We all ended up saving some room for dessert. The banana pudding, and coffee milkshake did not disappoint. Both really good. Service was spot on. We had Joshua as our server, and he was right there for any refills, or to clean up used plates. When I come back to town, I'll be sure to give Pops another whirl. It was AMAZING! So first off it's in my neck of the woods which is perfect! We were seated immediately waited on immediately and after we ordered got our food immediately! We had chili cheese fries as the start and they were awesome. The fries are fresh cut swirly potato fries and the pops chili and pops cheese so freakin good!!!! My husband had the spicy chicken pasta and it was good and I had the grilled cheese (added bacon :)) with the tomato soup and holy cow......it was so good! For dessert the husband had an Oreo milkshake and I had a chocolate malt. So so good. The chocolate malt tasted just like the ones I had with my grandpa. Honestly absolutely loved this place. Every odd places, looks like its just getting started. Lots of food selection. Kinda a cross of Sweet Pea's and O'Charley. I order the Chicken Fingers, auto side is fries. Took about ten to twenty minutes, no one checked on me during the wait. When it came out the chicken was extremely hot (I'm ok with that), the fries are the whirl potato things, hard to dip or cover sides. Came with no dipping sauce the ketchup on my table was empty after the fries. So it was just mustard. The service did pick up at the end, few refill of water, Next encounter the severer was trying to collect the check too early,I wanted to order a slice of the Lemon Ice Box pie, the pie was perfect, cool, and tasted great. At the end I tipped well "66%", was offered a cup of water to go. When i went to drink it, it had dark things at the bottom of the cup. Have to give this one a fail.
