located in Lockport I have three pops within a 20 minute drive of me actually four. three out of the four are really good I will not say which one is the lousy one but I will say this one in Lockport is right on par with the one right close to my house on 143rd and Wolf Road. this one still has beer not on tap but bottle if you want a cold brew with your food and it also has a monster dining room probably the biggest one I've seen in a pops this is it is very large it's surprising when you walk in and see how huge it is. like many other pops though the counter is set up and you can see the grill and the food being prepared the only difference is this one doesn't have sauerkraut so you can get a corned beef on rye which you can't get a Reuben. I was over in this area and I had a taste for some dinner so I cruised on in and had a breaded steak which was really good with extra red sauce and sweet peppers I asked for fries with no salt and a cup of cheese and it was done nice and quick. this one has Pepsi fountain drinks but it also has the caffeine free diet Pepsi which is a hard one to find sometimes I don't need all that caffeine. social distancing is it here too staff was wearing masks I believe gloves too but I wasn't looking at their hands. the cashiers and the employees were very nice and friendly. due to covid they do close earlier 8:00 p.m.. but like many other pops this is a go to one I would come back here again if I was over in the Lockport area and that hesitate to dine here too it's a little longer to bring home cuz the one closer to my house is about 4 minutes away this is about 13 or 14 minutes away so the food might get a little not as good to me. all in all though another great Pops. keep up the good work especially through the covid times. read more

This place was really disappointing. The Italian Sausage had no flavor at all, and was only semi-warm. I questioned whether it was cooked thoroughly and was told it was normal to have a little pink. Zero flavor. My wife had a chicken Caesar Salad and again, had no flavor. The chicken wasn't seasoned and extremely bland and dry. The salad had plenty of lettuce and other vegetables, but again , no flavor. I won't return and certainly won't recommend it to anyone. read more

I ordered the gyro special for $5.99. To my knowledge they are served with tomato, onion and gyro sauce. I asked for sauce on the side (the original sauce that COMES with the gyro) and she said she had to charge me for ANY sauce on the side. So if I get the gyro the way it comes it's $5.99, if you want ingredients "on the side" that are INCLUDED , they charge more. Make it make sense!!! So I got charged double just to put it on the side. Cashier was extremely rude and very unprofessional when I asked her to make it make sense. All she wanted to do was CHARGE CHARGE CHARGE EXTRA. I was excited to try Pop's Italian Beef & Sausage in Lockport, Illinois. We ordered two beef sandwiches with sweet peppers and mozzarella cheese, Corned Beef Brisket on Rye with Swiss cheese that costs $11.99, and an Italian sausage sandwich with giardiniera. The beef sandwiches where absolutely horrible! Tasted water logged, like it was frozen, freezer burnt and then microwaved. The sweet peppers were huge clumps, unsliced, undercooked and inedible. The cheese was weird and hardly any beef was put on the disgusting sandwich. I took two bites and tossed it in the garbage. The expensive corned beef sandwich was very skimpy on the meat and cheese. The Italian sausage sandwich was ok but I thought it would be grilled, it tasted microwaved, the giardiniera was also strange. Most Chicago Style restaurants use Marconi Chicago Style Giardiniera. The homemade potato chips were very good. Poor Boy's restaurant in Kankakee blows the doors off of Pop's. read more

This was my first time trying Pop's. I went to try their Italian breaded steak which is not readily available in the suburbs. I went to the Romeoville store which is the closest to me, at nine miles from my home. Ordered a cheeseburger w/everything, Italian breaded steak w/everything and a large fry's. I was absolutely disappointed with the taste of everything. The Italian breaded steak, which I have eaten from practically every Chicago land restaurant who makes it, looked good, was large with plenty of meat, sauce and cheese, however the first bite revealed an off flavor that I have never experienced. It tasted old, almost musty. That is all I could think of to explain the taste. I just know it wasn't right. I couldn't eat more than half before discarding it. The cheeseburger was also uneatable. It, like the breaded steak was a good size, looked good and had plenty of ingredients piled on. However, the ground beef patty was thin, dry and off tasting. I couldn't finish this sandwich either. The french fries were nothing special, a little over fried but eatable. I won't be back and recommend anyplace else for this type of fast food. read more

Are used to really like pops, the folks are used to be very friendly the restaurant was always clean and the prices were great. It's not like that anymore. My last visit last week it was $12 for my order of a chicken pita sandwich with fries that is outrageous. The food was mediocre at best and for that kind of price point I could've had a for dinner at George's restaurant. The restaurant was not clean, there was a smell I can't pinpoint it but it was off. Service was average, I read a lot of reviews about a gentleman behind the counter who seems rude or off putting and I can totally see that, he is definitely not a congenial person perhaps customer service should not be his work. No one was wearing a mask, there is a mask mandate but apparently they don't think they should follow it. None of the cooks were wearing masks either I should've walked out but instead I will never go there again. In this day and age with a mask mandate in place any restaurant that is stupid enough not to have their employees wear masks neither deserves my business or deserves to keep operating. I highly recommend Nikkis euros down the street they were masks, they are always clean, their food is always excellent, and the prices are good as well. They greeted the woman in front of me but i didn't even get a hello. Beef was tasteless, their hot peppers were not even mildly hot. Got a shake too and it's alright except for the tiny straw and large chunks of strawberries that makes it very hard to drink.. Recommend portillos over this place any day! read more

Both of the two times I didn't care for the beef, and neither did my guests. I ordered here one more time , because it was a last minute party. When I got the beef home, it literally stunk sooooooo bad!!! It smelled my whole kitchen up & my guests where asking what the awful smell was, just to find out it was the beef that stunk horrible. We had lunch at Pop's Italian Beef and everything was A-Okay. There are not a lot of frills to this place, but it doesn't need it - they serve up some tasty food and that's all I care about. We had burgers, a pizza puff, fries, and a milkshake and everything was great! In fact, they make a VERY good burger here. I'm sure everything else on their menu is tasty too, but only being able to speak for what we had... they get a solid B+/A-. If I'm in the area again I'd certainly stop in for another bite. I'll admit, I gave up on Pop's at least 5 years ago after a string of poor meals at this location. However, I had a kind of rare craving for a hot dog. Weighing my options I had four choices. While I have more positive experiences with the other three places Pop's was closer and had closer to what I wanted overall. So I decided to give Pop's one final shot, make or break time! I ordered the jumbo hotdog/w fries and a small drink. The drink station was nice and clean which made me happy as the previous time I had been here years earlier the machine looked neglected. I got my lunch pretty quickly and the fries were decent; I prefer steak fries and these were closer to shoestring but not bad. The hotdog itself wasn't bad either. I'm not sure how they cook them but it was a little dry although it was nothing a bit of mustard couldn't fix. Over all, I give my experience 3.5 stars and generously rounded up to 4. I don't know if I'll be back any time soon but this experience did improve my perception a little bit. read more

We've been coming here after soccer games and it's quite the treat! You can't go wrong with Pop's. As someone else noted, the hot dog comes wrapped in fries. I like my dog loaded with everything and Pop's piles it high with goodness: tomatoes, pickle, onions, relish. The fries are great too, either dipped in ketchup or not. I also recommend the beef sandwich, especially soaked in sauce with some peppers. It has a nice family atmosphere and is clean. One thing to note: Not all Pop's have the same items on the menu. The Orland location on 143rd Street has a great salad that I didn't find on the Lockport menu. read more

We stopped in recently while driving through the area. This location is large, with plenty of seating available during dinner hours. Service was quick. We ordered a meatball sub without cheese, fried and a gyro meal. The meatball sub was good. The bread was fresh and the sauce was so plentiful I had to eat the sandwich with a knife and fork. As others mentioned, the fry portions are huge- a small could easily feed two. The gyros were good too; meat had the right amount of crispiness on the edges, and pitas are fresh. Unfortunately we don't live in the area, and I wouldn't make a special trip to visit again, but this is definitely a place with consideration of you are in the area! read more

This should have received a four star review. The food IS pretty good. Tonight I stopped in for a combo (beef and sausage) sandwich, small fries and drink. The sandwich was delicious, fries were plentiful and the drink was, well, as good as a Coke from a fountain can be. Cold(?). But the fact that four people chatting behind the counter will let me walk up to the counter (with no other customers in sight) and just stand there without offering to take my order ticks me off. Just another example of how the customer doesn't matter and I'm getting really tired of putting up with that. Will I be back? Sure. Like I said, the food is good. I got the impression that I should have been thankful for the opportunity to eat here. When it comes to Italian beef and cheese fries, you really can't go wrong. Or can you? Pop's is a spacious, clean, casual restaurant serving fast, greasy food. The beef is really good, as are those cheese fries, but we both asked for hot giardiniera. What we got were sandwiches topped with a pickled jalapeno and celery blend. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't the Chicago style Italian beef that we know and love. It could be that we got the wrong pepper mix. Or maybe this is their house style of making hot peppers. Beef joints are a dime a dozen in the Chicago suburbs. I wouldn't go out of my way for Pop's, but it's worthwhile if you're in the Lockport area. read more

Last time I went they forgot my cheese but that's not a big deal the chicken nuggets are amazing but they keep changing how they look and taste but they usually taste good the fries are good to but I will only eat them with the cheese and I'll also only eat the chicken nuggets with barbecue but they usually don't forget that overall I love pops and it's a good restaurant. read more

The Gyros are ok, just ok and that is it. They use Kronos for their supplier for Gyro meat so there you have it, not fresh, that's why it is only "ok." The french fries are awesome! The service is great! Now onto why I gave this place a bad review, the disgusting, dry, Scala's supplied, foul tasting pile or thinly sliced meat on Italian bread they call a beef sandwich! I would rather call it s**t on a bun! This is still the worst beef sandwich I have ever had to date. I know a good beef when I taste one and this place blew me away about how horrid it was. Not only to mention I got mildy sick after eating it. The sickness lasted for hours, I do not think I was food poisoned, I think my body was mad at me for feeding it disgusting dry bad tasting crap!
