Greetings my Foodzies, recently we tried out a restaurant called Pops Place at 8418 w Grand Ave. River Grove. It a small spot tucked away I a little strip mall at Grand Ave and Thatcher. There's a table and window seats for fine in, the young man who took our order was very friendly and polite. We ordered a steak sandwich with fries and a combo (beef and sausage) the steak sandwich was decent size it just needed a more seasoning, the fries were crinkle cut frozen fries (we prefer fresh cut) and needed to be a crispier. Down-to-earth, humble spot for some Chicago fast food! They have gyros, hot dogs, burgers, shish-kabob, Italian beef, fries, onion rings, and more. When I was here I got the #8 Greek chicken which was nicely seasoned broiled chicken, garlic bread, and rice. It came piping hot and fresh and served with a drink. I loved it! Their fries and onion rings were delicious, too. Pop's totally reminds me of a true Chicagoan spot for some grub - you'll see locals coming in and out while talking with the staff (because they're regulars) about the Bears, work, or construction nearby on I-90 (very Chicagoan). I loved the lowkey and charming feel here. Their pricing is affordable with most combos (including fries and a drink) being under $11. It's better to eat individually or with 1 person if you want to dine-in since they don't have tables inside, just a built-in tabletop against the walls so you're facing the window/wall when you eat. I recommend taking your food to-go. The 2 men at the counter helping me were personable and approachable. Located in a tiny stip mall off the busy street, this place is a small spot with convenient parking right out in front. Pop's is one humble fast-food place that serves up fresh menu items and Chicago classics. I'd recommend it! read more

omg amazing find on our way to the airport! We tried the triple cheeseburger, gyro and meatball sandwich and all three far surpassed our expectations. I have been driving by this place for 8 years and telling myself "ohhh I should stop there one day...". Well, yesterday I finally did! I ordered a very eclectic meal of a gyro sandwich and toasted ravioli. They were both excellent and made me wish I had taken the time to check out Pop's earlier. The prices were very reasonable and the portions were huge. The guy at the counter was super friendly. He was very patient with me ordering (I can be a bit indecisive to say the least.... and their menu is HUGE). He offered me suggestions which were very helpful. Stopped for a hot dog & fries. Basic but all the right elements! Hot dog had a good snap, bun was fresh, pickle was perfect! Very tasty dog. Fries were not fresh cut, but still a better quality fry cooked perfectly. Overall, can't be beat for less than $5!!! read more

the jalapeño poppers are my absolute favorite here. $5.37 after tax for 6 of them but boy they sure are worth it. The last popper was the most perfect popper in the bunch. I get mine with cream cheese but you can also get them with cheddar cheese. read more

This is a great place to stop for a quick meal to eat there or to go. I usually stop here a couple times a week after I get off the train and need a bite to eat. When you go, order this: - Gyro meal. Meat cooked perfectly, sauce is wonderful. - BLT meal. The bread can be over toasted/grilled with butter. You might want to tell them light on the butter. Otherwise everything is good the way it is. - Chicken Nugget meal. These nuggets taste like McD's, but at a cheaper price. The Chicago Style Hotdogs can be ordered with everything on them and there is no extra charge for it. They also have several kinds of Polish Sausage Sandwiches on the menu, from the loaded Chicago Style Polish to the Maxwell Street Polish that is open flame broiled with grilled onions on it. I have never received a bad meal there, hell, even the deep fried Pizza Puffs are exceptional. lol If you're in the area and hungry, give Pop's a try, I doubt you'll be disappointed. read more

THIS PLACE IS AMAZING!! It's your typical small, local, looks-like-nothing special, kind of place but OH EM GEE! Their burgers, fries, philly sandwiches - WOW! Everything is always, always fresh and delicious. We don't eat out a lot, but when we do, 99% of the time we get Pop's Place! I don't even consider it a fast food place because the food is so good and fresh it really feels like you're eating at a restaurant - or better. Great job!! So happy we have this place nearby! Never ever ever will I try this place again. I wanted something last minute and being that I was unfamiliar with the area and in a hurry, I opted to use my Yelp app. It seem to have reasonable reviews (until now). I ordered the chicken philly and an order of fries and chicken nuggets and fries for my little one. It came to just over $12. My sandwich looked delicious and I was hoping for a great experience BUT after I took that first bite something was off in the taste and it hit me. IT TASTED LIKE CIGARETTE ASHES!! I had already left this place and was running late to an event, but there was no way I was eating this sandwich, so I went back. The employee didn't have a clue as to how to use the cc machine to refund me and the owner was out of town. To resolve the issue I was told I would have to call back on Monday to talk to the owner. Needless to say I haven't received my money back. Very unfortunate because up until that point I was pleased with the service as the employees were very friendly. read more

I went here for the first time yesterday September 21st. I have lived in River Grove for 15 years and I can't believe I never came here before and gave this place a chance. They have really good food I was really satisfied with my order. I got the Philly Cheesesteak with Cheese Fries. This place is legit the steak was actually paper thin like a Philly steak should be. You know how some restaurants use steak but there a lot bigger not like a traditional Philly. Well you don't have to worry about that here this place makes a legit Philly. I wish they were open longer to be honest. But overall good first experience. The man working the register was really nice helpful and polite. They cooked the food pretty fast. This is a pretty nice little hot dog stand. It's conveniently located on Grand and Cumberland Ave. The gyros are really good and ther serving size is huge. I also like the #7, two (vienna beef) hot dogs, fries and a medium drink for $3.99. read more
