The technician told me that the part needed to repair my unit was not available from the manufacturer. I checked the manufacturer's website myself and found the part listed as available. I was also told the part would cost over $5,000, plus labor. However, the same part was listed on the manufacturer's website for around $1,500. I completely understand that HVAC companies need to mark up parts and make a profit, but more than tripling the price seems excessive. When I questioned the availability, I was told that because it was Saturday, they couldn't confirm anything. I was essentially told to pay the diagnostic fee, accept that I had a non-working unit, and that there wasn't a repair solution as they don't like the brand I have and did not want to quote the part or repair. I wish they kept their word and said the diagnostic fee would go to the repair cost. What bothered me most was that the conversation then shifted toward pressuring me to purchase an entirely new system. When a repair part appears to be available directly from the manufacturer, being told it isn't available and then being pushed toward a full system replacement does not inspire confidence. The appointment started off great, and I was hopeful they would be a company I could trust. Unfortunately, by the end of the visit, I felt very uncomfortable with the information and pricing I was given. I would strongly recommend getting a second opinion and independently checking part availability and pricing before agreeing to a major repair or full system replacement with this company.

This 2.5-ton unit had cooled the home effectively for over a decade and was never flagged as undersized during their 2024 visit. Dismissive Service: They denied any leak existed and dismissed our warranty inquiry by labeling the visit a "nuisance call." Proven Wrong: We brought in a second licensed HVAC contractor for an independent assessment. They immediately confirmed the system was low on refrigerant due to a slow leak. Once properly recharged, the unit went right back to cooling normally. I had troubleshot past the capacitor (good), and Big Wave recommended replacement of circuit card, fan, motor, and igniter. Why would all of those items break simultaneously, and parts would take 3 weeks to arrive. I called Shawn Labert and they weren't able to schedule me until the following week. Shawn called me back immediately and remarked that since I had already taken the trouble to check the capacitor, replacement of the control card should be well within my ability. He even suggested ordering one from Amazon which I had assumed was only available from an HVAC supplier. Finally, he even offered to be available to answer any technical questions I had. His encouragement was all I needed! I found a replacement card on Amazon sold by Rheem for $151. It arrived the following afternoon. That night I installed it within 30 minutes, and my blower roared to life! I literally saved $3,000 and 3 weeks of living in a hot house. In the future, I'll call Shawn Lambert if I need HVAC support.

He explained about the capacitor--been hearing that word for years but never knew it meant something sort of like a battery in the condenser unit (that big metal cube thing that sits in your backyard that powers all of the life-sustaining cold air in the house that keeps you from certain death during a heatwave...LOL!l), flushing the drain lines etc. Also learned how to do simple things like opening the drawer for the filter--DUH! I'm so lame, I'd been trying to open the big flat panel to put in a new filter for some time but gave up --then the other day I realized the drawer on the bottom was the thing with the filter, but because I'm arthritic, I didn't think I could pull it out.
