I really wanted to like Pork Butt BBQ. The owner who was at the counter was extremely friendly and welcoming. As a person with celiac, it was amazing to be able to at anything on the menu. But, the meat was not good at all. I tried the small trio with ribs, brisket, and sausage, and they did not taste good, did not taste smoked, and were bland and tough. Needed to be smothered in sauce and even then, didn't taste good. Maybe it was an off day and it's usually better than this? Again, I so wanted to like it and support this awesome concept of a dedicated gluten free bbq restaurant. The smashed potatoes were great, but I don't go to a bbq pace just to eat potatoes. Great BBQ! I've been driving past this spot for years and had no idea. Hidden gem! Literally. Wow! Tucked away in a plaza is this little hole in the wall BBQ joint. Very small cozy dining area, but big flavor! Fair prices and good portions. I ordered the Trio (small) which came with brisket, ribs, sausage link, 1 side (I got mac and cheese) and a drink. Everything was amazing. The mac and cheese could use some pepper, or spice or something. But the meats were awesome! The sauces were great too. I got the spicy. Yum! The brisket was really good. I've been to some of the best BBQ places in KC. I've been to a bunch of great rated BBQ places in Texas and the Carolinas ... this place compares. You know how a lot of places you feel sluggish or weighed down aftera meal vs. other places when you eat you feel light and your body feels great? I felt amazing after! No sluggishness. I can tell they use fantastic meats and ingredients! The owner, Joshua, came to us a few times to talk to us ... what a fantastic dude. He mentioned that the space next door is open and they're looking to expand. He's considering a GoFundMe to pay for it ... I'm in!!! Hole in the wall looking place but clean and well run. Large selection of meats and restaurant specialties, all explained when you order. I went with large brisket sandwich, mud pie, and an iced tea. Sandwich was large and arrived quickly. I was offered a selection of 6 sauces to try. Sandwich came with their "regular" (tomato based) sauce on it. I tried the regular, the sweet (also tomato based), and the Carolina. All 3 were very good, hard to pick the best. The brisket was of good quality meat, well smoked, and not over-seasoned. A tiny bit on the greasy side, but big on flavor too, so that's a trade-off with brisket. I was checked in on by a guy (probably the owner) who wanted to make sure everything was good and it was! First of all I am not an allergy person but came here with someone who is and OH MY GOODNESS! I loved all the food. Best bbq I've had in Colorado Springs. They have 6 house sauces that I couldn't pick a favorite, so every bite had a different sauce. The fried chicken is going to be my all time go to cause the flavor was chefs kiss. But I am so excited to try the rest of the menu. Jalapeño sausage was wonderful and spicy and the brisket just melted in your mouth. I ordered dinner at the pork butt BBQ, and they told me it was gluten-free. I almost walked out because I've been burned before--gluten-free usually means cardboard with seasoning. But this? But the rubs and the sides that are served at this amazing little restaurant are also gluten-free! We saw Chef Joshua and Chef Shawn on our local morning show @livinglovinglocal and just had to check it out. Being a Texas girl, I have very particular personal tastes in barbecue and was excited to find that their brisket is moist AND tasty! most places in Colorado Springs can get one or the other... Chef Joshua has accomplished both. Speaking of the chef... He did a table visit while we were there and we found him to be humble and a lovely family man. His wife, Bonnie has created the most amazing desserts, Sammi took our order, and everyone who worked there seemed to treat the restaurant like it was their own... Which made it feel like it was all family working there. While we were there, a filming an interview was going on for "the best restaurants in America". They selected four restaurants in Colorado and this one was one!! We also had the pleasure of tasting the cheese sauce that they use in their macaroni and cheese... OMG ! We didn't get their macaroni and cheese, however we did have their loaded smashed potatoS which has pulled pork cheese sauce and beautiful pickled red onions, as a garnish. Definitely a must get! Lastly... All of the pies looked amazing, and the host of The Morning Show raved about how delicious they were, but we got the cherry berry and were totally completely surprised by how amazingly delicious the crust was, and yes!...
