Over $6 for a tiny bbq sandwich now! Seriously, it's not that good. I know prices are going up but that's just crazy. Next time we want bbq, we'll do it at home. I can buy a Boston butt and get 20 sandwiches out of it for $10. read more

My friend and I were out doing some errands when we wanted to get something to eat. So we decided on BBQ for dinner. There was a restaurant that we haven't tried before so we went to Hendrix. What a great decision on our part! It was so small inside and the ambiance was very retro with the decor. They had a lot of vintage signs on the wall and a huge statue of Betty Boop when you walk in that greets you. The service was amazing and quick. The staff was very friendly and the food was really good. We ordered a BBQ plate which had pull pork sandwich with red slaw, house salad with homemade ranch dressing, fries and hush puppies for $11. It was a lot of food for the price which is a plus for me. I would come back to this place again and it is worth the visit! read more

I've been going to Hendrix BBQ for my whole life. Generaly good food. My family and I have had a lot of celebrations here over the years. Lots of good memories. But during the COVID crisis this establishment had no respect for people at risk. Masks were worn incorrectly if at all. A young waitress just refused to put the mask on that was around her neck even though I explained my friend was very high risk. What a bad attitude. Only one barbecue place in Salisbury was compliant with common sense measures during COVID. That's the one I go to. You can argue about masks but you're wrong. Science wins over how you feel. I just want a restaurant that cares about its customers. read more

Have been a loyal customer for about 8 years, primary because of two amazing employees (ladies) that are always kind and pleasant and always made my wife and I feel welcomed. Other staff, not so much, but I tolerated it, because I try to see the good in everyone. But that changed recently. About a week ago I drove up to the drive thru to place an order. When I pulled up, there was one pickup truck that was waiting for their food, and about 10 other cars in the parking lot, so not really busy. The server came out with food in hand, so waited for her to deliver that food and figured she would come get my order afterwards, or at least acknowledge that she saw me. Nope. She walked right back in, never acknowledged me and came out about a minute later to take change to the truck that was still parked in the drive thru. After the truck pulled off, she headed, you guessed, right back inside, never even looking my way. At that point, I simply drove off. Unprofessional behavior for a service oriented position. There is a quote that sums up my experience; "You must have the courage to leave that table when respect is no longer being served". I have excused myself... permanently. I decided at that point that I will NEVER step on that property again, nor will I spend another penny at this establishment. And the worst part is that I will never get to see my two favorite people. If I were you... I'd go here hungry and ask for recommendations. We were recommended this diner by some guys who knew we were hungry and wanted something quick. It was beyond what I was expecting. They said "diner" but it's more like a breakfast place with some grilled food and BBQ chicken and pork. The server was a SWEETHEART. She was very friendly and open to the fact that we weren't from the area so we asked for a lot of recommendations. She told us red coleslaw is best with BBQ and white coleslaw is best with seafood. She told us to choose hushpuppies over dinner rolls. And she was not wrong. Service was quick. The BBQ plate was big! A nice helping of hushpuppies, bbq pork, salad (with PICKLES!), red coleslaw (diced very small), and some great crispy french fries loaded on top. So both Partner and I haven't ever had good hushpuppies before, but these were good! Very crispy outside, soft inside, and somehow so savory but also sweet. The bbq pork and coleslaw were a perfect level of vinegary and the pork was tender. Knowing that the plate was going to big, I got a small meal of a chicken and dumpling bowl and side of fried okra. The okra was fried very well and freshly so. The chicken and dumplings was good (nice and thick with lots of shredded chicken) but disappointingly cool. The meal was great with an awesome server. I could definitely tell that some of the other staff weren't nearly as friendly as she was, so just be forewarned on the service, but you can't fault the food which is just solid comfort food. read more

Was recommended to us by a health care worker. We went since we were nearby waiting for appt. Never going back! Hubby had a HUGE pancake which was good. I ordered French toast. Wish I would have taken a pic. Pathetic! I think they dumped almost a full cup of powdered sugar on it. We told the server I didn't want it and she said they'd take it back. They never came. I ate some of Hubby's pancake. Talked to waitress and she said they wouldn't take it back. Talked to manager and they wouldn't take it off the bill. Taste of the barbecue is fine. Didn't have a great smokey taste. Red slaw is good. Salad with homemade ranch was the best part. I stated that I was eating a low carb diet and asked if they had a plate with fewer carbs or some ideas. We decided on the BBQ plate with extra red slaw and side salad. No fries or bread. The decor is awesome here. It's classic and retro so you could spend a lot of time just looking around inside. The dining room is not large but they've been pretty good about doing social distancing. Mask wearing by the staff has been mixed though I've worn mine here when I wasn't eating. This is definitely the place for Southern cuisine and the hush puppies are definitely on par with the place I normally go to for them (which burned down before the pandemic and is still rebuilding). My family has mixed impressions and felt service was a little lacking when we went last week but overall, it's a solid place to go if you want authentic Southern cuisine at a reasonable price. read more

Our server never came back to refill our drinks. 1 waitress made a racist comment to my friends son. Then when we got up and got our own drinks she fussed at us. We will never eat there again. Second time I've been there. Food was excellent and the staff was friendly and very attentive. Place is very cool inside, loved the Blue Brothers driving in the car on the wall. Decided to try something besides their mediocre BBQ today and ordered two double cheeseburgers all-the-way for lunch. Both burgers came to the table in just a few minutes, meaning they were not actually cooked to order, which is ok if the restaurant is really busy and they slinging out food quickly; but not busy at all. Burgers were way over cooked and ice-cold at the same time, probably pre-cooked leftovers from the night before. Puking ensued a couple of hours later. I really don't know how their food tastes . Because I did not stick around to receive the food . I went through their drive-thru to order breakfast. I gave my order in and then she asked for the credit card or the payment and then after giving her the credit card and payment not the payment but you took the credit card she asked me if I wanted to tip her . I go through the drive-thru so I don't have to tip so I don't you know feel like they're serving me to tip . So after thinking it over for about 2 minutes I asked for my credit card back and withdrew my order. Because if I said no I don't know what they're going to do to my food and I did not feel like I it was voluntary for me to say yes . Ordered a mesquite salad and I ended up getting a very small amount for the size of the salad called back in and they insisted that they had put two pieces of chicken onto the salad which is standard. I am one of the biggest fans of this establishment . I used to come here at least twice a week . That was until I found out waitresses were talking crap that they didn't want to wait on us . I usually tip pretty decent for the amount of times I was there . I also am respectful of people because I myself have to deal with people everyday in the service industry . I have been serving people medically for over 40 years . I have given my life to the United States and daily I continue to be a proud Patriot . I also I'm a firm believer in my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ . So when I found out we were not wanted here by some of the waitresses I just continue to boycott it . I would really appreciate if they would get some more customer driven waitresses that are 100% customer service oriented. I think unfortunately so many of them think they're going to be busy no matter what and they may be . But if they have trouble with me I think the average consumer can expect they don't want to wait on you either . I hate this because I think the food here is above average . I like the owner he has been doing business in this area for over 50 years . I just think customer service is sinking the ship here . I think unfortunately some of the bad apples have spoiled the whole bunch . I will revisit someday even though I have no idea other than second hand gossip what their problem is with me . I think a lot of great diners and dives are having trouble getting good customer service oriented waitresses since covid-19 it seems no one wants to go back to work . been going there off & on for years, always had decent service, but here lately, ( 2 months or so ) for breakfast, with others ( 5 to 8 ) ordered my breakfast, after i would get it, that was it as far as service. several "young" girls come to table either to refill or ask all alright to everyone but me, 1 kinda flirting with some. sit there with empty cup, until 1 morning i noticed ( in the last room ) there was tea pitchers on a table along with lids/take home boxes, etc., so i helped myself to refills. will have to say, there was 1 older lady ( when she was there ) would wait on me very good. would check on me, bring refills & such. what finnally made me "stop" going there, i was having a car show & asked the owner if he would donate $25. to help with the show expenses. he declined to do so, & after all the $100.'s-possibly $1000.'s i've spent there, he couldn't give me a little $25. for sponsering my show!! needless to say, but i will "never-ever" spend/give "him" any more of my money !!! read more

The barbecue here is typical of that served in the Salisbury area, very close to that served in Lexington, but with a sauce that is a little more Eastern style than that found down the road - it is a little more peppery, but with some tomato in it, still the result is rather mild, and tasty The pig is moist and tender, with no real sign of smoke. It comes out of the kitchen moderately chopped, and well sauced. The slaw is the red slaw typical in this area, but it is sweeter than most, and not a version I like. The hush puppies are fries are both excellent, and the hot dog is nice. All and all, this is a nice barbecue joint, with NASCAR memorabilia on the walls, friendly service, good barbecue, decent portions, and reasonable prices. There is another location for this restaurant elsewhere in Salisbury, but I've only eaten at this one. read more

I wasted $16.00 this morning. I ordered 2 livermush plates with eggs and grits and initially I had a problem with the grits. They were matted and old and i could hardly pick any up with the fork. I called the restaurant to let them know that i decided to bring the plates back. The manager told me that she would only replace the grits portion of the plate stating that it is company policy. Today ordered hamburger steak mashed potatoes and green beans. Now you think that would be something you could not mess up. The potatoes were dry , could not get any butter.
