This port in Miami serves both commercial/cargo and cruise/passenger ships. It also employs hundreds of thousands of people and contributes tens of billions of dollars to the economy. Each year millions of tourists cruise in/out of this port. Cruise lines currently include Azamara, Carnival, Celebrity, Crystal, Cunard, Explora, Holland, Hurtigruten, MSC, Norwegian, Oceania, P&O, Ponant, Princess, Regent Seven Seas, Royal Caribbean, Seabourn, Virgin, and others. I think that this port has eight cruise terminals. My husband and I have been cruise passengers in this port. Most recently, in March 2026, we sailed on a Norwegian ship from terminal B to several countries. I've gone through PortMiami a couple times now, sailing out on both Norwegian Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean International, and it's been a solid experience each time. The first thing that stands out is how organized everything is. With the amount of people moving through there, you'd expect it to feel chaotic, but it actually runs pretty smooth. Checking in and getting through the process is fairly straightforward. Lines move, staff directs you where you need to go, and before you know it, you're on your way. The location itself adds to everything. Sitting at the port before you depart is actually one of the best parts. You can just watch the city move. Boats going by, cars, people, everything just flowing. It's a really cool vibe. Last time I was there, I watched a guy land a seaplane right on the water, then take off again flying through the skyline with all the buildings in the background. That was one of those moments where you just sit back like... yeah, this is different. Definitely the kind of stuff I'm trying to be on when I grow up...lol. It can get busy depending on timing, so you'll want to give yourself a little extra time just in case, but nothing that feels out of control. Staff is helpful and keeps things moving, which makes a big difference when you're dealing with crowds. Overall, it's a good experience. While the new facility is very nice, the port itself is a mess to get into because of construction and design of this place. There can be quite a few ships on port and it's just congested while a mass of cruisers exit and another mass board their ship. They truly need a public transportation option here directly into the area - the reliance on taxis/ubers etc is a just a massive miss on the part of the city. When I lived in Seattle, I flew here to go to the Port of Miami to get to my cruise ships. Even back then, it was a super busy place with all the ships lined up, dozens of taxis, gobs of people, ship employees, cars, trucks, baggage handlers, and the huge ship containers. It is still that way but it has been reconstructed and updated and runs smoother. It is a beautiful drive from I95 to the Port. The views are fabulous of downtown Miami and Biscayne Bay. Going thru the tunnel is really cool also! There are signs everywhere to guide you to your ship. Now that I live in Miami, it is convenient to go there without much stress. This time it wasn't for a cruise but rather a meeting. There are so many buildings at the Port and they are used for many different things. I love being up close to the giant ships. I've had good experiences at the port of Miami Terminal B. Mostly what has helped me to make it a more smooth and enjoyable process- having my luggage tags attached and selecting a check in time. I set my checkin time between 1030 to 11am. Lastly, have your passport and ID ready for the embarkation process. They have this port running like a well-oiled machine. My only suggestion is to have more restrooms available and I wish there was a way to track your luggage after you drop it off with porters. read more

PortMiami used to be a decent cruise port, but lately it's become the worst in Florida. The biggest issue is traffic. We're experienced cruisers, going on 3-4 cruises a year, so we've seen the difference firsthand--and the decline here in recent years is very noticeable. Getting into the port is a nightmare--it can take nearly an hour to go just one mile on busy days. What should be a quick drop-off or parking turns into a stressful experience before your trip even starts. Port Canaveral isn't perfect, but it's at least ten times better. Traffic moves, access is easier, and the whole process feels much more organized. It's disappointing to see how much PortMiami has gone downhill. Until traffic improves, it's hard to recommend cruising from here. read more

Like the famous William Leonard Roberts II once said, "Port of Miami importing the candy". But if I would have tried that during Fleet Week, the Military Police and K9's would have caught me and had me peeling potatoes. For those of us who admire the military and high tech wizardry- regardless of whether one agrees with politicians or not - Fleet Week gives you the opportunity to check out "Top Gun" and "Crimson Tide" in real life. To get to the ship, my rideshare dropped me at a designated and well marked area by the terminal. I then went through a pretty efficient airport style security and walked through the glass-facade terminal and finally down to the ship, the USS Bataan. The ship itself is an amphibious warship which is basically how the Marines get ashore to do their thing. The troops on board gave demos of the pew pew sticks, humbees and helicopter. I was also able to go to the Bridge / pilot house and sit in the Captain's chair. Mentioning my foodie tendencies to my tour guide, I also had the chance to see the galley (kitchen) and try some Navy pizza. It was 5/5 as it was heavy on the sauce and a nice-textured crust. Remember how I mentioned I took a ride share instead of driving? Well the Port of Miami bridge to the mainland has a pedestrian walkway where I was able to get some PT and jog back to the mainland! I'd definitely recommend Fleet Week, just get on the webpage early to ensure you get a ticket. read more

The port is one of those things you can't stand going to but once you're there and settled in, it's great. I was here a little bit ago for a cruise and let me say, the entire place is so confusing but it also makes sense if you actually look at the signs and follow them. There are a multitude of officers and dock workers as well as other people helping keep the flow of cars from coming to a standstill. For the most part they're friendly but they are strict, it's basically like the airport. The location of the port is easy to get to and there is one way in and one way out of it, making it get a little busy if you're there at peak time. They offer overnight parking in the garage, however it is pretty pricey if you're going to be there for am extended period of time because of a longer cruise. Overall a nice port but once it's done (eventually) with its construction, it will be an absolutely stunning port to willingly to to! read more

The ports formal name is Dante B. Fascell Port of Miami, and is located right off of the Biscayne Bay, in the shadow of Kaseya Center, where the Miami Heat play. This is the home of many of the hottest cruise ships in the US. You will find 8 cruise terminals here: A (Royal Caribbean large ships), C (Norwegian), D (Carnival), E (Carnival), F (MSC ), G (Royal Caribbean smaller ships), J (Oceania and Regent Seven Seas), and V (Virgin). They also have a major cargo side of the port, as well, but I did not care much about that. This place is easy to get in and out of. I recommend taking an Uber (especially if you have more than 2 people or a shuttle (for 2 or less) to get her. They have a few commercial parking garages, but they can get to be pretty pricey, especially for the longer trips. The traffic control staff and the baggage handlers are very efficient, but they do handle your bag for "tips" and are not afraid to let you know. The port looked very clean and operated efficiently. A lot of people's port experience depends on the cruise ship that they are going on. They are really hard to separate. My experience is based on a few visits while going on different cruise lines. The port is on an island, so even though there are a few shop and restaurants that are close, they are almost impossible to walk to because you have to cross a bridge. You will have to get a ride to/from most of the close eateries if you are looking to go there to kill some time. Given the amount of traffic that this port gets, I was very impressed with how easy it was for me to get in and out of. I can' t wait to go back and mostly because that will mean that I am more than likely going on another cruise. read more

I used to think Galveston had the worst cruise port in the US. Not anymore. I have cruised 4 times out of Miami and each time it's worse than the time before. This time was absolutely the worst. You can see by my photo from Waze that it took 26 minutes to travel 0.8 miles. And many more minutes just to get to this point. That's less than 2 MPH. Between the poor road design and construction this port is a nightmare. I thought for sure getting off the ship and into an Uber would be better. Nope! The rideshare area was packed and the taxi area not packed at all. And cars would pull up and say they are a taxi (in the rideshare lane) and pick up people. That seems illegal to me. Their vehicles were not displaying the placards taxis require, they did not queue up with taxis, and are taking cash payment, and likely not paying taxes to the city. The other problem was the rideshare vehicles could not get in the pickup area because of a huge number of taxis queing up and blocking the entrance. The port of Miami needs to build a bridge and extend the Metro all the way to the port. This would give tourists staying downtown an option to taxis and Ubers and cut down on congestion. read more

Can be a smooth experience as long as you know which gate your ship boards at. People will be exiting their cruise as others are trying to get in line for boarding. This is a very congested and busy area, so be sure of where you need to be at and then you'll be fine. Have all your documents ready to show so you don't hold up the lines. read more

Now that's what I call a cruise port! It is in a Strait, connecting Miami Beach to Downtown Miami. We went there in early January for a 2-week Panama Canal Cruise and got a chance to experience this port as a departure point on a sunny Saturday. We had chosen/been assigned a time slot of 12:30 - 1 to arrive. Not knowing Miami traffic, we left our hotel at latest checkout time, and got a Lyft to head to the Port. We got there a bit early (11:30 or so), but there were no problems advancing. On the Southern edge, there are terminals. Just like an airport, there are multiple terminals with ships coordinating departures. We got dropped off by our Lyft driver in the right terminal. We were immediately able to find a porter, who took our room number and immediately took our baggage (writing our room on the tags manually). To enter the main line, you must first show your COVID vaccination card to a firm keeper-of-the-line (even though we were told explicitly before that it would not be required). Then you go through x-ray machines (no liquids allowed, just like at the airport...so we had to quickly chug our water bottles). Once past, this takes you to another queue, to wait for the next available agent. Once we got to the front and found an available agent, he took our room number to find our reservation. He then checked and scanned our passport. Everything checked out, so he went away for a little bit and then came back with our cruise cards (the cards do not contain the room number). You are then given a placard containing your boarding group. You must then find your way to the waiting area, where it is crowded and loud. There were long lines for both sets of bathrooms in the waiting area. Once boarding groups were announced, it went by quickly (Group 2 was at 12:15, 8 at 12:21, 39/40 at 12:57 which was our group). From there, it took about 15 minutes to get onto our ship. So from arrival at 11:30 to getting onto the ship, it took about 90 minutes (definitely better than expected). In terms of the ship departures, there were multiple ships loading passengers and wanting to leave in the late afternoon. As mentioned, there are dedicated terminals for each major cruise line: A is Royal Caribbean, B for Norwegian, C for Disney. The Royal Caribbean ship left a little before us and then we started to move out. Within 15 minutes, we were able to clear the dock. Super cool to watch the ship go sideways to leave the dock (wish we had that for cars when trying to parallel park in busy city streets). read more

Getting to Port Miami for a cruise is pretty easy with the exception of all the construction before getting to the tunnel. When it gets backed up, it is better to take the surface roads around Bayside to get to the port. Once on property, the signage is pretty good as long as you know which terminal you need to get to. All traffic goes one direction so there seems to be the feeling of looping around alot. There are specific parking garages for each cruise line and parking is between $22-$25 per day. You pay when you exit so the line backs up when people don't have their tickets and payment form ready. Exiting is easy as long as you follow the signage. read more

For my cruise on 9/24/23, we ported from Miami. The port is huge...and obviously so with cruises coming in and out and carrier ships coming through here. The port staff are always looking for tips. I guess that is the new thing...every place wants a tip for doing the basics of the job. I put my own suitcase on a crate, but I tip you for what?!? And plus, if I could bring my own luggage on the boat, I would, but I can't. Anyway, the port is super busy and I know they shuffle people, and things all day long through here. The interior portion of the port is beautiful! I have only been to this port once and have only cruised once but from my time at the port I can say that the interior is beautiful and clean. I visited this port in May to board Royal Caribbean's Wonder of the Seas. The one thing that I didn't like was having to wait outside/on the exterior of the port until time to board the ship. I thought that you could enter and wait in a waiting area. I had to stand outside near transportation drop off until boarding time. It was only my second time at a cruise port so not sure if this is the proper protocol but would loved to have waited in the waiting area before boarding instead of outside. When I entered I was pleasantly surprised. From security to boarding the ship so beautiful and aesthetically pleasing. I even enjoyed the photo op spot before I boarding. read more

My family and I went recently to the Port of Miami as we were going on a seven-day cruise aboard the Carnival Celebration going to Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Saint Thomas. The Port is huge! Per Wikipedia 9.6 billion tons of cargo moves through the port and it is considered the largest passenger port in the world. Many cruises leave the Port of Miami as it has 9 cruise terminals! We took a lyft to the Port of Miami, it seemed pretty easy to get in and then out of the Port of Miami if you are a passenger. I have no idea what the parking situation is like, though. There is a designated area within easy walking distance outside the Port for pickup from Lyft/Uber. Getting your luggage transported to the ship is easy/seemless. You can take your carryon like if you are in an airport and you have porters who take the rest onto the ship for you. Your bags will be searched much like going thru an airport, the experience is much like TSA... but more invasive. They confiscated one piece of candy my mom had, and searched through all her makeup thoroughly. I thought they were way to invasive. Getting onto the ship via the port is super easy, as the gangways are covered. Except for their "TSA", it was a good experience. read more

This has to be the WORST cruise port that I have ever been to in my life! No exaggeration! The traffic once you get here is horrendous! The signage is absolutely awful. Figuring out how to get to each terminal and where to parking garage is for each terminal is EXTREMELY tricky and difficult! It freaks you out because if you accidentally pass it, you know you'll have to sit in the hour long traffic again and potentially miss your ship. The parking garage is also terribly laid out. This is the best sport in the world to catch a cruise. I have taken countless cruises from here over the years. Since it is the Cruise capital of the world, you will find almost every cruise line here sailing their ships. You can find a cruise to go so many places in the world from here. But it is too chaotic. They need to have better organization, especially with special events. It took 3 hours to get home from this port. I left my fun cruise just to be super frustrated getting home. Normally it would take about 50 minutes to get home from here. There was a ton of traffic along with the Miami Marathon from hours earlier. It also took a lot longer to get here at the beginning of the cruise due to excessive traffic and poor signage. Just as bad as the traffic is the fact that cell phone service is minimal at best. We had to wait a very long time to book an Uber. Lyft app kept spinning too. With all the money they make on port fees, it is time to invest in better cell service. read more

I would say there is a lot of construction going on down here so you might want to leave her home early. Parking at the Royal Caribbean parking. Garage is around $28 for four days or less and $24 for five days or more. It's just a couple dollars cheaper to park at the port parking garage. It should be illegal for parking to cost this much. This is a wild place and until they finish the construction on the bridge... I am staying away. Use to be our favorite port as it is so beautiful as you pull away on the ship and see the Miami shoreline, South beach, etc. Literally took hours to just cross the one bridge. They tried to build more parking and added more new terminals for the cruise lines but you better expect hours before you finally arrive on your ship. Do NOT taxi or that ticking will put you in the poor house. Also the parking outside the ports are a pain. Have not found any nice ones, they are mostly indoor garages with small vans that shuttle you but barely run every half hour as they claim. We end up using Uber each time though they offer free shuttle. This was my 18th cruise, most out of Miami, but it will be our last. Miami cannot handle this traffic. They are trying but we are done. read more

This was the start and end point if our recent Carnival Sunrise cruise. We had a blast! This is my 2nd time at PortMiami (largest cruise port in the world) and it was a good experience, besides the humid hot sticky weather. The embarkation process can have long lines so bring patience as there are thousands of people going through security & check in within a few hours even with appointment slots. This time was a little over an hour from car drop off to walking onto the ship. Make sure to have your boarding pass/documents on you as they check multiple times in line. I'm not sure of parking as we Ubered each time. This was very convenient as they drop you curbside to the terminal. There are porters there that help bring your check in luggage to the ship right at the curb and show you where you need to go. Our terminal was very clean, large, & spacious. The walk to the ship is longish so be sure to check in your luggage so you don't have to navigate with it through the terminal & ship if your stateroom is not immediately available. After disembarking, we called an Uber. The ride from PortMiami to Miami Airport (MIA) was about 12 minutes when we disembarked early in the morning with no traffic. There was a VERY SHORT WAIT (like 2 minutes) for an Uber ride! They are waiting to take you to the airport! :D I'm sure we'll be back for more cruises! Until we meet again, PortMiami! I always enjoy finding a historical marker so I can learn a little more about the history of an area. The Port Miami historic marker is located in front of Bayside and at the entrance to the port, at the intersection of Biscayne Boulevard U.S. 1 and Port Boulevard. Marker F-818 was erected in 2014 by Florida East Coast Industries, Florida East Coast Railway, Foreign Affairs Center, Inc., Florida Trade Association and the Florida Department of State. After reading the marker I learned that the history of Port Miami goes back to 1895 when local land owners Julia Tuttle and and William and Mary Brickell convinced Henry Flagler to bring the railroad to Miami. The area was unincorporated and had only 300 residents when the first passenger train arrived in 1896. The original Port of Miami was where Maurice Ferré Park now sits. After making a channel, Flagler began offering passenger service between Miami and Key West in 1897. Flagler also owned a steamship company, Peninsular and Occidental (P&O) which provided shipping service between Miami, Grenada, and Nassau. In the early 1900s, Government Cut was dredged along with a new channel to what is now called Bicentennial Park in downtown Miami. This new access to the mainland created the Main Channel which greatly improved the shipping access to the new port. After World War II Port Miami experienced a boom due to its proximity to the Caribbean and South America. A port expansion resolution was adopted by the city of Miami on April 6, 1960. The port was moved to Dodge Island which was created from three historic islands Dodge, Lummus and Sam's Islands which were combined into one. The port was formally named Dante B. Fascell, in honor of 19-term Florida Congressman Dante Fascell, Port of Miami is also now known as the "Cruise Capital of the World" and "Cargo Gateway of the Americas." The port is connected to Downtown Miami by Port Boulevard, a causeway over the Intracoastal Waterway and to the Watson Island via the Port Miami Tunnel. The Virgin Voyage port is brand new, looks very friendly, and is easy to navigate. However, their lines for people to board the ship were very early, going through the covid testing and then checking in and waiting to board the ship until you receive your results. Drop off was a bit confusing, and unsure why you cannot pick up someone in the roundabout makes it slightly more chaotic. Port Of Miami is big. You can get there from Miami by bridge or tunnel, depending on where you're coming from. The buildings are well marked and the signage is good. It's really something to see, especially when the ships are in. Every time I've been there I'm very impressed. I want to tour every ship, I want to travel somewhere, anywhere. Even though I'm visiting I find it to be very exciting just being there. Recently I had the chance to board the Virgin ship, Scarlet Lady. It's a beautiful new ship, but that's a different review. Parking was easy in the garage across from the pier. Because of the pandemic we had to bring proof of having been vaccinated. We also had to have a negative Covid test before we could board the ship. Getting the Covid test involved a lot of walking. Even after getting my negative test results there was a lot of walking to get to the entrance of the ship. The promise of lunch on board kept me going. Not even a bench to stop and rest for a few minutes. I had a wonderful day, but I didn't look forward to making that long trip back to my car. read more

Port of Miami is a beautiful port. The cruise lines are very active here. While I was down there I had a nice lunch on virgins scarlet lady ship. I had a nice Seabass and steak for lunch.
