Great food and amazing service. Our server Hannah was very knowledgeable and fun. She suggested a great wine and even brought us a taste of another bottle. The food was very good. We had the Magnolia Springs Pizza and veal piccata. Both were excellent. The piccata was perfectly balanced. It's great to see a little hole in the wall mom and pop restaurant here in Foley. Even better on Saturday nights wine is half price. Can't wait to try the house made tiramisu. The owners Chef Rich, and Pam are doing it right. Pam visited and spoke with every table in the place.

Just had a very nice experience at this place and giving them a solid 5 star!! Established in 2019, Portabella's in Foley, AL, quickly gained a buzz for their authentic Italian cuisine and inviting atmosphere. The original owners worked hard to create a dining experience that celebrated the flavors and traditions of Italy, that resonated with locals and visitors alike. There was a lot of folks lamenting when they suddenly closed it doors with an uncertain future. But after a few successful years, the original owners decided to pursue new endeavors, and in June 2023, Portabella's was sold to its current owners, Rich and Pam Lee. With decades of experience in the culinary world, including Rich's role as an executive chef for renowned restaurants, such as the acclaimed Antoine's in New Orleans, the Lees were well-equipped to take the reins and continue its legacy of exceptional Italian cuisine. Located in the heart of Foley Portabella's has a warm and welcoming environment that reflects the passion and expertise of its owners. The menu features a diverse range of homemade dishes, including Italian sandwiches and even a Mufaletta , classic pasta dishes, and a special Greek pasta with kalamata olives, tomato, feta, olive oil, with chicken or shrimp, lobster and ricotta ravioli, wood-fired pizzas, fresh salads, and great seafood options. Standout items include the Gulf pizza, with fresh spinach, shrimp, artichoke hearts, feta, and sun-dried tomato pesto, and the Five Cheese pizza, a nice combination of mozzarella, feta, Swiss, provolone, and parmesan. You can not only create your own pizza but you can also build you own pasta, very nice! We started with an outstanding Stuffed Portable that's spinach, artichoke, mozzarella, pita points with an ooey gooey deliciousness. My honey had the special that day of Clams Linguine that she totally enjoyed and I had one of my favorite dishes Veal Marsala, that was outstanding and a huge portion that I could barely finish. They also has a full-service bar with a fine selection of wines and craft beers, as well as decadent desserts like their famous Nutella cheesecake and homemade tiramisu. The restaurant also has live music events on select nights, further enhancing its inviting ambiance. Bottom line: Under the dedicated stewardship of Rich and Pam Lee, Portabella's continues to thrive as a beloved destination for Italian cuisine enthusiasts in Foley and the Gulf Coast. Highly recommended!!! Open for dinner Tuesday through Saturday from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and extending its hours to 9:00 PM on Fridays and Saturdays, it's a great setting for a memorable dining experience. Spinach, salad is amazing Garlic knots need help!... How about putting some fresh garlic/butter on them..... Step them up some they seem very basic/bland. A distraction from the other quality food at this restaurant. La pasta is amazing; highly recommend. Value of food is amazing. Wine is overpriced for this type of restaurant. One negative star for Garlic Knots and over priced wine

Our first time there...We were shocked at how small the place was (I think I counted 12 tables) we were greeted & seated promptly by a very friendly hostess. Unfortunately our "table for 2"mwas right beside the entrance door, so we were quite cold the entire time we were there. Our server was very efficient, but not friendly in the least! I don't think she ever cracked a smile! We told her this was our first time there, she could've cared less. Even told her we were celebrating a birthday, as was the person at a table beside us. Again, no response from her. We ordered the stuffed portobello mushroom appetizer, which was excellent. I had the veal Marsala...I was not impressed with the taste at all. My guy had the angel hair pasta which came with 4 large meatballs smothered in a rich marinara sauce...he said the meatballs were very good & would possibly order again. Each entree came with a small garlic knot. Both of our salads were an extra charge. Even though they were the same exact salad, we were charged $5 for one & $7 for the other!?? We splurged & ordered dessert...we chose the salted caramel cheesecake..it was outstanding! If go we back, we hope we don't get the same server.. FYI: they only serve wine & beer, no other alcoholic beverages.

I love when Yelp hits the spot! All the reviews were good so we thought we'd try it out. A cheap hole in the wall restaurant that has incredible food! Worth every penny! We enjoyed the garlic knots for an appetizer with the amazing marinara sauce that everyone else has mentioned, a pepperoni pizza, and chicken Alfredo. Everything was great and we had good service! We will definitely come back here the next time we're in town. read more

Everything was delicious! Friendly service. We will definitely be back! I do wish a small salad would come with entree. We had the portobello mushroom appetizer which was excellent. French onion soup was quite tasty. I got the lasagna and my husband got the chicken parm. The sauce was sweet and delish! read more

Sadly we did not get a chance to eat here. We were very excited to try it because of the great reviews. We came in tonight about 15 minutes before closing time. They did not make their annoyance a secret, and when she saw our whole family, she commented to another patron, "I didn't realize it would be a party of SIX." We felt really unwelcome and didn't want to be rushed out of the place, so we left. I too have worked in restaurants, and sometimes it's frustrating when people come in close to closing time. But as long as the restaurant is open, it's the right thing to welcome people in without a grimace or a guilt trip. read more

Absolutely amazing food! My wife and I brought our 10 month old in, and they treated him like family!!! We live about an hour in a half away from this place, and will definitely make it a regular spot! If you're ever in Foley, visit Portabellas! read more

My Mom and I went here after a long day od shopping at the Foley outlets. cute cozy little place. We ordered shrimp and artichoke dip. This was a very different dip than normal. It was almost like the canned vegetable spinach and artichoke dip. We ordered half of meatballs and angel pasta. That meatball was to die for. hen, the other half order was the chicken alfredo. The sauce was very watery. The chicken seemed like frozen chicken not fresh and came with broccoli as well. Not a fan f that dish at all. read more

I came here with Italians who know good food... And they loved it! The pizza is thin-ish crust... Not quite New York style, but as New York as you'll find around here. The chicken cacciatore was good... The sauce made it. And the spinach salad was delicious! The homemade dressing and the candied nuts were great. The service was so friendly... It's family owned, and family-friendly, from the environment to the prices! :) read more

Very Yummy! We had the garlic knots first. They were very good. Then the spinach salad that my mom and I shared (her side with the pecans which she raved about) was very good. I had the lasagna that they make homemade every day... Yum! My mother had a pizza with shrimp, fresh tomato, Spanish, bacon, and cream sauce.. Very good! The end of our meal was a wonderful home made tiramisu. It was a wonderful meal from beginning to end that was only made better by the lovely server. This will be a place we revisit soon! Maybe even this weekend when my husband is down! read more

Absolutely the BEST pizza!!! Actually everything we had there was phenomenal. We had the bread swirls and artichoke and spinach dip for appetizers. Both were amazing! I had the Lion pizza and I ate all but one slice. I couldn't fit it in. My party had various pizzas and we all were blown away. Kids had the spaghetti and meatballs and they loved it too. If we are back in the area again, this place tops the list as a must stop. Awesome! read more

I got stuck on their pepperoni pizza...real New York style. We've lived in Alabama for almost 25 years now and one of my biggest complaints you couldn't find a decent pizza anywhere...well you can at Portabella's. The restaurant can be crowded and noisy but the food is great, especially the pizza. read more

Found this place on Yelp after shopping at Tanger. Had delicious pasta dinners with Greek salad. Pasta was hot and tasty and service was fast and pleasant. Two beers, two salads and two pastas, about $30. Great place read more

Fabulous Italian food!! We had the garlic knots with marinara sauce - yum!! The sauce tasted homemade. The Caesar salad was very light, loved the dressing and the croutons - I usually don't eat them. I had meatball marinara- OMG!! Full of flavor, I cleaned the plate. I live 5 hours away and I would drive back for this food. Love, love love it. The service was great too - very friendly. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. FYI. If you want to go have a glass of wine, this is not the place to go. They refused to serve me because they said I should have went and gotten a new ID that was flipped sideways because 6 months of being 21 is plenty of time to get a new ID. My ID doesn't expire for two years so let me apologize for not wanting to spend my money to buy a new one 2 years before it expires for the sake of pleasing the rude chef at Portabellas. What an embarrassment! This place is a JOKE. read more

We decided to stay in and pick up pizza one night! I'm so glad we did! We had the chicken pesto pizza with the artichokes, the meat pizza, & the chicken Alfredo. Everything was delicious and this is exactly what I was looking for, a nice local pizza place to try something different. I always love to support locally owned restaurants. Yes the wait may be a little longer than normal but you get what you pay for, which is quality. Each pizza is made to order and the pastas are out of this word. I would highly recommend the angel hair pasta with pesto and tomato sauce (I don't remember the name). Today was my 1st time here and we went for a late lunch . I'm in Foley for business and we wanted to try a local place. It's a small place but food was very good (everything seemed really fresh) and the service was friendly. I had a greek salad with chicken and my co-worker had a fancy pizza and tiramisu . We were both happy with our meals. This was so much better than all of the chain restaurants that we have eaten at this week. I will definitely be back. read more

We had eaten here twice and ordered pasta. It was good. On the third visit we ordered 2 pizzas. I love pizza. It was a sad experience. They used Caramel onions on a pizza. Who does that? I will try one more time, but not ordering pizza again. read more

Stopped here for dinner while on vacation. We were seated right away and the staff were very friendly. We ordered the garlic knots for a starter and had the seafood imperial. Everything was amazing! The marinara was delicious--our 6 year old raved about the garlic knots. Quite a refreshing change from the over-hyped touristy places near the beach. We'll definitely be back. read more

Portabellas restaurant is opened and has the best Italian food around. I have had many pizza 's ,pasta dishes,lasagna ,salads rolls. Everything is great tasting.All is made from scratch. Stopped in for lunch with my family, because it was recommended by a friend. The eating area is a little small, but if you don't mind, the food makes up for it! I had the Lobster Ravioli & it was delicious! My children had a pizza that was completely handmade from scratch with fresh ingredients! I was surprised! We've since returned to try every menu item! It's location is odd & unless you're looking for it, you could pass it by. It sits in a building attached to a seafood market...look for it!!! read more

A-freakin-mazing!! We just came in from the beach it was perfect. Family of four came in order four side salads. 2 appetizers and two pizzas- ATE IT ALL! Highly recommend the garlic knots and the Greek salad! The dried tomatoes were an interesting texture. We ordered the florentine and the lion. Lion was good but the florentine was amaze-balls! Definitely have a food baby going on. Couldn't be happier.... Except if I had a nap. read more

Like to eat at local, family owned places when traveling. Sick of chains and tourist places. Don't pass up this restaurant because of it's hole in the wall exterior. That makes it more of a gem. Besides great service the food was great.Having lived in New York, Miami Beach and Las Vegas I can tell you it was awesome.The spinach salad was outstanding and the lasagna was the best I have had in a long time.Changing our route to include this stop for sure. read more

Always have very good food. I've never had an issue with waiting too long, it is a little chilly so I would suggest bringing a jacket because the cooks get so hot in the kitchen. I would also suggest trying the garlic knots and "The Lion" pizza. Nothing but good things to say from me! read more

Not fancy and not expensive. Just outstanding pizza and great service. I would go back in a heartbeat. The server Kristie was about as good as it gets. My best tip is get there early if it is a day such as Valentine's or a Friday or Saturday as it is not a large place and could fill up fast. It appears that a lot of people get pizza and other items to go. read more

The one item that has gone up exponentially is the cost of everything on the menu. We have continued to spend money here out of some false sense of nostalgia in hopes to see this place rebound. The picture I have included is a broken dish our food was served in. Luckily it was noticed before anyone in our party cut their hands on the protruding shards. The only reason I am giving this review 3 stars is because the live music performance by The Heat at the time we stopped in kept us there. I highly recommend looking them up and planning a night out to see them.

There was one chocolate dipped cannoli left and I fully believe no cannoli should be left alone. If you've never had a chocolate dipped cannoli in your life, you'll experience the same life changed moment I went through after taking my first bite. If you're in Foley or nearby, this is the place to eat at if you're in the mood for Italian food. It was worth every penny we spent.

I ordered a egg salad sandwich and order a pasta salad and an iced tea. My grandson ordered hotdog plain with just ketchup and potato chips and a soda. Although the food was very tasty, I just cannot understand why the items that I had ordered totaled $26. The bread was good and fresh, but it wasn't toasted, and the pasta salad lacked a lot of the ingredients I am accustomed to seeing in a true pasta salad. I gave this four stars, as the food was very good, but again I thought was much pricier than what we received.

We are from south louisiana and were raised on flavorful delicious food. We have lived in the gulf shores area for 7 years and have had a difficult time finding good food until we ate at portabellas! The restaurant is easy to pass by and very small but trust me it is one of our favorite restaurants in South Alabama! Be sure to try the lobster ravioli, lasagna, shrimp Alfredo and spinach dip; those are some favorites! So "pass a good time" and enjoy this special find! read more
