    Birria Tacos
    Allison C.

Lawdamercy... if I'd had more room in my belly I would've ordered more! These Birria Tacos were so good. The beef was tender and the flavors hit just right. The service was REALLY good too. Everyone was super friendly. I'll 100% go back and I'm super sad I never went sooner.

I have been back to Portales twice since my first review. Each time, I get something that is my new favorite!!! I've gotten the burrito hawaiano, pollo tapatio, and the pollo fundido. All were extremely excellent! I wanted some veggies with the burrito to add a little crunch, so I ate some from my moms plate, and next time I will just ask them to add some. But the tastes were all exquisite. I'm trying not to get the same thing every time so that I can keep trying new things, but it's hard not to go back to these delicious dishes! The waiters are always so attentive and everything comes out fast and just as requested! This is definitely our new absolute favorite Mexican restaurant. I can't believe we slept on it for so long!!

I wish I would've found this place sooner it's my new favorite. I've never had rice and beans have so much flavor at a restaurant before and the fact that the refried beans aren't a grey paste they have texture and color and flavor. My first time here I had the chili verde and wow it was so good my husband ordered it next time we came and he usually only eats one thing. So my favorite thing of all time to eat is chili relleno and it did not disappoint I like it better without the batter like they make it. I can't wait to go back and try more! I will be back every time we come to town. Thank you for delicious Mexican . I was too excited for the chili verde and didn't get a picture

On the rocks pitcher and the chips and salsa... Dat salsa spicy!! But delish
    Kristen G.

Went here with a best friend. Ordered a classic chicken cheese and rice kind of deal called the Pollo Loco with added veggies for a dollar and a pitch of on the rocks margaritas. The waitress said the pitch was a better deal than just two margaritas but I think she was just trying to get us drunk. The drinks were strong and we couldn't finish the whole pitcher, but they let us have the rest To Go!!! The food was great, slightly smaller portions than I imagined but oh well. Salsa was spicy.. I liked it but my friend couldn't handle the heat! Service was great. Overall, will return. Closest Mexican restaurant to my house.

Salsa is good and spicy, and though the chips may be colorful, Their flavor did not impress.

Seems there's some weird disconnect going on I wasn't aware of... This location is now going by Las Mexicanos instead of Los Comales. Looks like almost all new staff too, that could definitely use some Customer Service training. The menu has a 3rd name on it that seemed off as well. I was not told to come to the hostess stand to be seated, no friendly greeting when I did approach the stand. Once seated, the chip & salsa dude was quick enough in dripping them off w/out so much as a greeting. Maybe he's the silent type? Who knows? 2 Now the real wait begins.... Nothing to drink nor any sign of anyone even slowing down @ my table to take a drink order. Maybe they were fighting to see who would take my order? ‍ I was almost finished w/the basket of chips, decided what I wanted and LAID THE CLOSED MENU on the other side of the table close to the edge, hoping someone would notice. I had decided if they couldn't be bothered to come by the time I finished the chips I was leaving. Magically a waitress finally shows up w/3 chips to spare. Placed the order for water and dinner at the same time. Dinner came out quickly but looking pitiful w/barely a full tablespoon of guac, tomatoes or sour cream. Cheap bastards! The flour part of the chimichanga was NOT CRISP, & I was given plastic utensils to maneuver this sad plate. I have eaten here MANY times as I live in the area so I am more than disappointed w/this experience. Not a single customer sitting in the middle @ the 4-tops & @ least 7 booths empty; on a Saturday night @ 8:00 pm. Sad that they have lost so much business, I'll think twice before considering spending my money here again.

Loaded with tender and flavorful shredded beef, whole beans, rice, and cheese in a grilled tortillia wrapper with a rich and hearty consume. He has a healthy appetite and still took some home. I got 2 alpastor tacos, which were excellent. Tender and flavorful pork with just enough pineapple. I alsi had a grilled chicken taco that was good, but not as luscious as the pastor. We LOVED the sauces. Yes, you got some mighty heat with a few of these, but they never sacrificed flavor for the sake of heat. Great pickled onion and habenaros, fresh crisp radish and cucumber, smokey, spicy dips. What is not to love!! Churos for desert, sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar. Clean, well lit reasurant. Casual. It was great, everything was authentic - but then Molly retired and the new owners moved the location to the hip and popular Overton Square. Reciently the restaurant has changed hands and the new owners have turned it back into a real Mexican eatery. Now the menu is awesome, and about half of it caters to vegetarian appetites.
