Went to celebrate a friend's birthday. Gorgeous decor of this renovated old home. Used to be another business in the past. There was ample parking in the back behind the establishment. We sat in a side room that had a few tables and chairs. Nice addition of portable coat or purse hangers/holders set up next to the table. That was very convenient so patrons do not have to place purses on the floor. Our server was very nice and attentive. There was a party of 5 and there was an automated gratuity. I believe when you make a reservation, that is information that is shared. Dress was smart casual. I had the shrimp tacos that were seasoned and delicious. There were three tacos per the dish. I really enjoyed the entree. The basket of rolls were very light and airy. The butter had chives and a great flavor. I ordered a wonderful and very light piece of cake for dessert and shared with the table. It was good but pricey. Our dinner was moderately priced. We enjoyed our food and my friend was given a birthday cupcake that was dry. She ate some of it. All in all we had a good time. We had a fun experience. read more

We came to Tekila Mexican Cuisine for a family dinner and had a great time! The ambiance was vibrant and colorful--perfect for a fun night out. Service was attentive and friendly throughout. I tried the lychee martini, which wasn't my favorite, but the other drinks my family ordered were really good. For food, I had the coconut shrimp with mashed potatoes--very tasty, though definitely an interesting combo! We started with egg rolls as an appetizer, and they were surprisingly delicious--especially paired with the guac. But the golden cake stole the show! Got dressed up and went to Tekila for our anniversary dinner. The setting is gorgeous. We got married in this beautiful building and were looking forward to celebrating our anniversary there. No one came to pour water or take drink orders. They were not overly crowded, and other tables seemed to be getting appropriate service. Interesting place. Very big, multiple rooms. Good complimentary chips and salsa, better than average. Our waiter seemed to have a lot of trouble with the order. We had to clarify things a number of times with him. I asked for 2 things on the menu, (a mazapan martini, and braised short ribs) and they were out of both of them. I got a Lychee martini instead which was tasty. I got panko crusted salmon with avocado risotto which was very bland but ok. Not terrible by any means, just basically a big nothing. Also ordered a side dish of asparagus. Got Brussel sprouts instead. They were also not bad but not particularly good either. I felt they were not cooked very well, I like them crispy and these were kind of mushy. We also ordered birria tacos and shrimp tacos. Both fine but nothing great. Started with guacamole made tableside. I liked that it was a bit on the lumpy side, but it wasn't spiced well. Very bland. Also had the cauliflower app. Grilled head of cauliflower absolutely smothered in a cheese sauce. I did like it, it was tasty and omg cheesy. My tablemates didn't love it. Felt it had way too much cheese. Also They have a photographer come around and take pictures of you. Then put the photos in frames and try to sell them to you for $20 apiece. Very tacky. I stopped in during spring 2025 with my mother and son for an early walk-in visit. Upon arrival, I was asked if I had a reservation, and I said no. At the time, the restaurant appeared largely empty, including the lower level, and the parking lot was not crowded. Despite this, I was told the hostess would check on seating availability. After a significant wait with no clear update, the process felt unusually slow for the level of activity in the restaurant. Ultimately, I decided to leave and dine elsewhere at Porch and Parlor, where I was seated promptly as a walk-in. I want to be careful not to assume intent behind the service experience was based on my race as African American, but as a professional woman, the interaction left me feeling uncertain and disappointed. A group of friends mentioned they wanted to try something new and said let's try Tekila so I scheduled a reservation for six on May 2 and after much reflection based on my previous experience, I decided to cancel my reservation and chose to dine at Folks Folly instead. While I cannot speak to internal operations or policies, my experience did not reflect the level of attentiveness I expected, and it influenced my decision not to return. read more

I've frequent this location under different restaurant names so I knew the building would be beautiful due to its historic ties, they couldn't change much, thank God!! I never understood why make a reservation only to arrive and they make you wait "to get the table ready". Shouldn't it be ready if you knew my arrival time. The menu is upscale from a less casual Tekalias which I appreciate just be warned the prices match this upscale experience as well. Drinks: The frozen Prickly Pear was nothing shy of AMAZING!! So good, you have to just try it. Sweet but you can taste the classic margarita if that even makes sense. There was another drink (name?!?!) with pineapple, passion fruit, tequila and tejin rim that was REALLY good too!! Appetizers: Mexican Corn, beautiful presentation but flavor missed the mark. I didn't realize it was corn on the cob, so I politely shucked it on my own. Cheese Dip: Nice texture and good. Table Bread: That butter, I could have eaten with a fork it was so good, I don't advise for dietary reasons, use the bread. Dinner: Grilled Shrimp tacos with flour tortillas. They were okay to me but my Bestie LOVED them. I'm a Taco Nganas kinda lady! Grilled Cesar Salad with Salmon. Presentation beautiful but understated , it a WHOLE stalk of grilled romaine lettuce with Salmon just popped on top with salt/pepper, Romano cheese and dressing (which looked like mayo to me). Not my meal but Friend liked it. Coconut Shrimp Deep-fried coconut battered shrimp with mashed potatoes and mango chipotle sauce. Presentation beautiful. I would NOT ordinarily eat CS with mashed potatoes but so how with the sauce it worked!!! I'd probably order again. I personally was looking for a more citrus flavor like Bahama Breeze CS. TLDR; employees fighting at hostess stand, extremely overpriced, no sight of these drink/salsa carts, slow. As the Yelp 2 star review says, could have been better. I'm a lifelong Memphian and have been to many of the places Memphis has to offer, and I would not say Tekila warrants a second visit for me. My party was a walk-in and the hostess asked for my name/party size, gave it to her, and she didnt say anything else before walking away (didn't give a time estimate). While I was waiting on my party to arrive, 3 employees got into it at the hostess stand yelling and cussing at each other...at the entrance of a "fine dining" restaurant. Nothing says I want to spend more money than I should like having this as your first impression. While 2 of the fighting employees moved to the back of the house, the hostess stayed at the podium cussing to her coworkers about the incidence. All of this is not very professional for what you'd want at this kind of establishment. Before arriving at the restaurant looked at the menu and knew what I was heading into price wise, but all the Mexican food they served are classic Mexican cuisine you can get at anywhere but excessively upcharged. On the dinner menu, the tacos are about +$7 per your usual street taco. I had the $26 Drip burger since that felt like it was the only thing worth the sticker price, and it was tasty but they throw on bacon bits on top like a garnish when it would be better in the actual burger. The side of fries given was meager too. It was clear that this place tries to "sell" a luxurious experience whether its the drink/salsa carts that my party never saw the entire experience, the "fuego" steak experience, or pouring cheese over a burger. It reminded me of a desperate attempt to be Memphis' version of instagram reel worthy dining experience. Some people may want this kind of catering, but it just seemed more like a production without much substance. Several other reviews have complained of slow service and I would agree with those. The place did not seem particularly busy, but service was slow and infrequent. I liked our server (Derek/Gary?), it just would have been nice to be attended to more. The response from the restaurant on these reviews say they are working to improve this, but it seems to still be a linger issue. In conclusion, if you are wanting to go out and pay a premium for fine dining, I would highly suggest going elsewhere if you want to feel like you are getting value for your money. read more

This experience was a whirlwind. My girlfriend and I came on Valentine's Day. We reserved an outdoor table but were seated upstairs next to a wedding with blaring music and cha-cha lines. Dinner was a set menu starting at $90 per person (not disclosed when booking), including a starter, salad, entrée, and dessert. The starter was one pork egg roll split in half. Entrée options were salmon risotto, a 12 oz ribeye, or lobster fettuccine. We ordered the ribeye and lobster fettuccine. The ribeye was undercooked, and the vegetables were cold and hard. The lobster fettuccine was decent. Service made things worse. Our server never introduced himself, was rude and unhelpful, and refused to box our food--despite doing so for other tables. The bill came to about $230 with an automatic 20% gratuity that was also not specified in advance. I have no issue paying $90 per person plus 20% for quality food and service, but this was not that. They even brought plastic silverware for dessert--and there wasn't soap in the bathrooms. I don't normally leave reviews (this is my first), but this experience warranted one. read more

Let me begin by saying the ambience of Tekila is beautiful. It's definitely a good spot for a special occasion. That being said, I was let down by the service here. We had a reservation at 6:45, yet we didn't get our food until 9:15. It took about 30 minutes just to get drinks and 30 more to get appetizers. I wish we would have ordered our entrees sooner because it was then an hour and a half before we received the main dishes. The server was excellent and I ended up asking her what the delay was; she said they were busy that night with many large groups. Attention to Tekila Mexican Cuisine staff, crew and soon to be customers. The service my family & I received on June 16th as our first time deserves a zero star rating. What I'll give credit to is whomever oversaw the ambience of the entire building (10/10). June (14th-16th) of this year was Father's Day weekend. Anytime there's a holiday weekend, I've very low expectations pertaining to the food industry. By that being said, I took a major gamble on taking my dad out as this place has been considered new with a stellar content engagement. The service started slow out the gate by providing beverages of our choice. Then it transferred to our entrees NOT the appetizer. The appetizer (Tekila Eggroll) I received was small-scaled but tasty with the mayo chipotle sauce. I think it's vastly impolite if a restaurant brings out everyone's entrees at different times! That defeats the entire purpose of any dinning experience! The image of my fish tacos wasn't what I was expecting. The proportions of the batter fish lacked including flavor and presentation. My mom's ribeye steak had to be the absolute worst steak I have ever tried. Keep in mind this is a cuisine & steakhouse Mexican restaurant! Another person in our party ordered the red snapper, the best food presentation out of all of the parties entrees! I can't remember if they relished as I was highly pissed that the man of the weekend, who we were celebrating, hadn't received his food! At this point, the entire party is done eating. We kept asking what's causing the long wait time for a lobster pasta? Which's what my dad ordered for his entree with no appetizer and a glass of blue moon. The waiter eventually comes out explaining that my dad's entree was mistakenly given to someone else and they had to remake the dish. I'm all about communication! If the waiter was on his P's & Q's by being consistent with checking in on our table. He would've noticed that my dad wasn't provided his only entree. Therefore could've redeemed himself by asking the kitchen of the issue earlier to allow my dad of his decision on the next steps to proceed with his restaurant experience. Instead when the lobster pasta finally was presented, why was it noddles with an entire lobster tail on top? Nothing, I mean nothing, in the description stated a lobster tail. The entire party thought grilled lobster chopped and tossed into the pasta. I told them to take it back! Especially after the statement "We will take half of your entree ($65) to make up for our mistake." Half (in my Soulja Boy voice)? If you can't take the entree ticket off entirely, please take it back, or give it to someone else for all I care! But give me the check before I step out of my character! We were also served warm bread with jalapeños honey butter, while we waited for our steaks. *it should be noted that steaks here range in price from the 24k gold Tomahawk at $200 to the Ribeye Choice at $45. Also, steaks are ala carte so expect to order a side. The steaks were seasoned really well and cooked to our satisfaction. We were really looking forward to this experience however when we were seated a waiter did not show up at our table even though we saw white patrons being seated by what appeared to be the GM and hostess. They were attended to promptly by waiters. We called a waiter over who apologized for the neglect, poured us water and took our order. The margaritas and Oysters were delicious. The steak was bland, the mashed potatoes appeared to be instant and also tasted bland, and no comment on the vegetables. During dinner, our waiter fired up the grill for the couple at the next table who ordered a Tomahawk and immediately the room was filled with smoke as flames shot up to the ceiling. The flames were so high we could literally feel the heat. A smoke detector began blaring right behind my head as the man at the next table crashed out and yelled obscenities at a woman across the room who was videoing their experience. So we've got smoke, fire, smoke alarm, bland food, poor service, and an unruly, aggressive and hostile customer screaming obscenities at the top of his lungs and calling a woman the B word all at once. They did not ask him to leave, did not call the authorities, they did not apologize to the other patrons whose dinner was dramatically interrupted and ruined, or even offer desert as a comp. Posting pics of the drinks because they were wonderful. But the remainder of the dinner was a hot mess. Stay away if you value your peace and safety. We will never come back. We've never experienced such a horrible dining experience. I also left a comment on their FB page and someone there deleted it (because they don't want you to know) so here it is again...all for $166 for 2 people. read more

Worse and most disappointing experience for a restaurant I had longed to visit and experience. We are new to TN, and Memphis area. I've admired this building and its architecture along with location for such a long time , that was out of my mind surprised when my family took me here for Mother's Day and turned into the parking for brunch. We had reservations at 1145a. we arrived promptly at 1140am. First we were sat in the back room- (waitress said it's the worst) it looks like the dungeon-even with the nicely decorated and freshly painted walls and curtains on the window. The first thing we noticed was the rather obnoxiously noisy and loud the table across from us was. We asked immediately to be reseated and we were denied. Then we ordered our food- and it took an hour and half for our food to arrive- and it was cold. mind you, there were no one waiting or it didn't seem like there a lot of people in the restaurant .The pancakes were robbery and dry. I ordered the Red Snapper- not at all did the filleted fish I was served looked like the carcass that it was presented it- it was terrible presentation.Again, my veggies were cold. The mimosas were ok- the waitress never returned to for more water or anything . Very disappointed considering the amount of money we spent. read more
