Having grown up in Shelbyville and moving away since , I was skeptical of a local coffee shop doing well and tasting good. I am not a coffee drinker, so everyone looking for a coffee review from me, scroll on. I'm a member of an Indy based foodie group, and someone made a post about having the best biscuits and gravy ever here at Porter. My wife and I were in town for an appt this morning, so decided to stop in and see what it's all about. The place is in an old bank, so it's set up a little weird, but the inside is nice and updated. The workers were friendly. I had the whole order of biscuits and gravy. First off, you better be hungry if you are getting the whole order, as it is a lot of food. The biscuits and gravy were top three I've ever had from a restaurant. The biscuits were unique, and crunchy. The gravy was thick, and had a great taste to it. I also had a hibiscus lemonade- no comment (as I think I don't like hibiscus). Overall, will definitely return to eat some more biscuits and gravy.

Tried out the new Porter Coffee location in Shelbyville and I gotta say, this place is it! Porter is a small batch roaster and best of all, they're local. We tried their Brown Sugar Latte, Iced Vanilla Latte, and chocolate biscotti, and everything was great. The coffee was at a perfect temperature, not too sweet nor too bitter, which resulted in a vibrant and smooth taste. The biscotti was a perfect accoutrement to the coffee. In terms of ambiance, I could see myself coming in and being productive as it is inviting for either studying or simply chillin'. Overall, this new coffee joint is hella solid and I recommend it to my friends and family!

Such a good addition to this side of Shelbyville! Porter Coffee has plenty of seating inside to sit down and enjoy a coffee and sandwich, but they also offer a drive thru which I'm sure I'll take advantage of at some point. It's decorated and painted beautifully, makes it easy to sit and visit. Our group had a plain bagel with cream cheese, a lemon blueberry scone, Alabama step child, prom night, a strawberry chocolate scone, and a banana to eat. All were delicious! I'll definitely be back for the Prom Night sandwich. I got a Panda Porridge for our breakfast and also grabbed one to go. The prices are reasonable compared to similar places and I'll happily pay it to support small business. The employees (one was the owner I believe) were kind and helpful with questions we had. My daughter said "I think we should make this a weekly tradition!" Good experience and can't wait to go back!

I've worked in Shelbyville for 6 years and couldn't be more pumped about this opening. I got a brown sugar cinnamon latte and it was amazing. I'll be back for their lunch menu once it launches as well. Can't get better coffee in a 20 mile radius.

Gabagool! Only complaint, they gave us too much love on the chips! We ate them, that me!

I also got a plain roti to give to my toddler, but I didn't want to share. It came with the best curry sauce to dip it in and was delicious. Their drink menu is large and unique, so I asked for a recommendation and went with an iced creamy dark delight (condensed and evaporated milk) and loved it! The menu explains what is in each drink and has a visual of the ingredients so it is really easy to order even if you don't know what the drinks are. There is lots of parking available and lots of tables to stay and dine in. We got one of the tables in a nook area which was really nice. There were multiple high chairs too so it was a great stop with my toddler. I recommend this one completely just for food, just for drinks, but ideally for both!

This gives coffee shop vibes that happens to have sushi available. If I went for coffee and to work remotely or vibe , I think it's a decent spot. But for sushi, nah. The apple juice and the peach tea were 10/10!! They make the juice fresh. Must try! The sushi tacos were challenging to eat. The tempura "shell" is crunchy and just falls apart as you try to eat it. I asked for a fork and they said they didn't have any. The portions are decent you can get 3 for $25. I've had better sushi but the idea is cool...just not for me.

I ordered a grilled cheese along with a sugar pie slice and a London fog. They have other baked good options which looked good too. The grilled cheese was very small and I think cheese got into the pan because it was also cooked onto the bottom side of the sandwich. It was a very small grilled cheese. The London fog tasted quite strong and the sugar pie didn't really stand out. There were other items on the menu though that I'd love to try if I ever go back. What I think took this down to 3 stars was the service. When I went to order, I was just stared at and I thought maybe they weren't ready for me yet but they were. There was just no greeting of "Hi, welcome in" or even a "What can I get for you?" It was just a stare and silence. Now the staff were not unkind...they certainly seemed friendly but that lack of greeting didn't feel great. Additionally, they were very quiet or mumbled when calling out orders and so it seemed like many people listening never heard their order including me. I also had to ask again for the pie after having paid. I bought a bandana as well and didn't see the price tag. When I asked how much it was the staff member said it was either 12 or 15 dollars. She rang it up as 15 when later I saw the price tag and it clearly said $12. I showed the staff member and she said it was $15 and it was a handwriting issue for the price tag. I rarely write reviews less than five stars but I do think if there could be a bit more initiative from the staff and orders called out more clearly and louder for drinks so they don't spoil that would really help.

We were welcomed the minute we walked in and offered to sit wherever we wanted. The dining area is long and narrow with a handful of tables and a snack bar with stools. We sat where we had a nice view of the counter. The menus are posted at the tables. Breakfast items are a la carte and inexpensive. The coffee is locally roasted - I ordered a latte which came out fairly quickly. The coffee was strong and good. I ordered a couple eggs, bacon and a bagel. The eggs were cooked well done, like I like. The bacon was sweet and delicious. The bagel came with cream cheese and was fine. The staff is friendly and efficient. The lunch menu is interesting, as well. They carry a few gift items, including the coffee beans, and gift cards in the shop. The cafe is connected to a bookstore and salon on the sides. There was a small group of people having a loud work discussion which detracted a bit from the experience. There is plenty of free public parking and even bike parking.
