Fantastic cake doughnuts. Their cake doughnuts are very heavy, have a nutty flavor with a light sugar glaze. I saw the pastry sign out of the corner of my eye, and there was Linne's. They serve donuts and pastries in the morning and sandwiches for lunch. The shop is in an eclectic old building in downtown Shelbyville. The sign on the outside says "Linne's Pastries". Inside, there are cases filled with fresh donuts and pastries. The clerk said that the cake donuts were their specialty, so I grabbed one. There are quite a few tables to sit and enjoy your treat, but most people take them home (so no one sees them eat a whole box). I ate my donut, which was smaller than I'm used to, but none the less, delicious. There is free street parking out front. read more

Visited Linne's this morning after not having their delicious donuts in at least 12 years. They did not disappoint. We ordered two glazed, a cereal bar, a bacon maple bar, an Apple fritter and a butterscotch square. All were tasty however, the bacon maple bar was by far the best item. Everything we have had from here is so delicious from the pastries to their coffee. Wish we had discovered this treasure of a bakery sooner, as we moved here about 18 months ago but just recently went there. What a treat to have such a great bakery in this small town! We have had several of the fruit danishes, a filled chocolate bar, and the cronut type pastries. Their coffee is really good as well, as we prefer a stronger, more flavorful blend than most restaurants serve. We will be back again and again. read more

I am so in trouble with Linne's bakery! I have never had anything I didn't like! This week we had some pecan rolls, cake and yeast donuts. The cinnamon crisp is a perfect compliment with hot tea. So delish! The Bavarian creme coffee cake is one of our favorites. They make specialty cookies and cakes, and have a variety of pies. The deli has soups and sandwiches, eat in or take out. Everyone wore masks, so no issues there. Get there early for the best selections, they are a busy place. Closed on Sunday and Monday. They open at 5 am and close at 3 pm. You can enter in the front or the alley. When our out-of-state kids come home they always have to get Linne's baked goods - it's a part of their childhood when they were growing up. read more

Food is amazing as always!! however I was disappointed with how an employee responded to a new person in training. This new employee in training was so so sweet and was doing her best. I asked for 4 donuts. 2 of which had icing on top. She reached in and grabbed one of them with her thumb on top. I am not one to get bent out of shape over something like that! Shes learning. She was trying her best. At one point the seasoned employee helping her after the new employee asked "how to make the donuts pretty" in the bag, looked at her and said "on no this is all wrong". The new employee is still trying to work out the small details which is so understandable. The seasoned employee did not seem as patient with the new employee. Rude tone, bad facial expressions. I was highly disappointed with the exchange I witnessed and felt so bad for the new employee. I would've been embarrassed if I was her, which doesn't make you feel good when you're new and trying your best. She's learning, shes going to make mistakes. Your job as a seasoned employee is to teach but you can teach without being rude with a tone, making faces and embarrassing the new employee. Review based upon pastry shop only: I stopped in after hiking around Shelbyville and even as late as 11 a.m., there was a nice selection of pasties available. I picked out a couple large muffins, a cranberry-walnut and a blueberry muffin. Baked even and still moist on the inside, the flavors were great! I also picked up a large flat crisp cinnamon pastry (I can't remember the name and they don't put labels in the display cases) that I knew my wife would love. Good thing it was large because she only got to eat half of it! The pastry was crackle crisp and had a nice balance of sugar and cinnamon. She loved what she got! Linne's Bakery & Moore has the most amazing & delicious doughnuts, brownies, and cookies! (I'm sure their cakes are just as good.) My husband and I had never heard of cronuts prior to moving here six years ago from Southern Indiana. Cronuts (a cross between a croissant & glazed doughnut) are the best things ever! The store also serves some deli items, coffee, milk, and fountain drinks that you can enjoy in their café area or take it to go. Their items sell out quickly in the morning, so plan on getting there early (they open at 5am), but they do take orders on doughnuts and other items. Quite some time back I saw this place on Fox 59. Sherman was here and he was eating all types of delicious looking cakes, cookies, muffins, donuts, sandwiches and whatever else they gave him. I knew it was my destiny to one day get to this place of sweet dreams. Today my sweet dreams became a reality! We didn't arrive until afternoon so many things were sold out, but two diabetics many things still remained. I was ecstatic to see pecan crisps! I bought two. I also bought myself a cinnamon roll sort of thing, but it also has crushed peanuts on it. My aunt loves surprises so I got her a fancy looking cranberry muffin which is pretty big. Tony chose two chocolate chip cookies. The young lady who waited on us was very pleasant and patient. I believe our bill was $11.00. What we got is big though. If you are ever in the Shelbyville area and are looking for the best place to buy some fresh pastries, breads, doughnuts, cupcakes and the like, you will want to check in at Linne's. I stopped in this morning to grab a few treats for my co-workers, who love their doughnuts as much as I do. It's always difficult to decide which doughnuts are my favorite, but the one that has definitely been one of my top picks is their Butterscotch Squares. These beauties measure about 3-4 inch square and are a mouthful of gooey, sticky goodness! The pastry is flaky, topped with a sticky coating and frosted with just the right amount of caramel frosting. This is yumminess (is that a word?) at its best! Unfortunately, they did not have any this morning. They rotate what they make on pretty much a daily basis, but if you call a day or two ahead, they will take special orders. We are a fan of their coffee cakes and sometimes I will call in an place an order during the week for a Saturday pick up. Upon my mid morning visit today, I was greeted by Dee, who waited on me and knows me by name. She is friendly and helpful to all their customers. Diane, one of the owners, was busy frosting a cake in the background. After snapping a few pictures for my review, I proceeded to give Dee my selections. She asked me about how many pastries I would be purchasing so she could determine the right size box...a few minutes later she said "I think we're gonna need a bigger box". Not wanting to mush all those delightful picks together, she grabbed a bigger box and I finished my selections. I also purchased small cup of coffee to go...they have thermos pumps made up and you can serve yourself. I enjoyed the Strudel flavored one, but they had a regular and decaf available also. Linne's also has a nice selection of fresh breads, deli meats and salads and is a great place to stop for a delicious lunch. It is with heavy heart that I write this review... My parents got their cake from Linne's 50 yrs ago this year. I wanted to support and be happy with this place. We ordered a 3-tiered, square, white cake with ivory butter-cream frosting and a sheet cake for enough to serve 175 people. Each tier was supposed to be simply decorated - one with polka dots, one with squiggles, and the third with swirls. My mom and I provided the flowers and topper for color. Diane assured us that if we brought an ivory napkin from the venue they could match it to the cake. We brought one to them two weeks before the wedding. The morning of my wedding day we get a call and they can't figure out how to get into the venue to deliver the cake. My mom is upset and stressed and I spend quite a bit of time on the phone with the planner, venue owner, and Linne's trying to corral everyone and figure out which doors are open. Ends up they all were, they just weren't at the right place. I get to the venue to get ready and am asked, "Susan, what color of cake did you order?" Huh?? "Ivory." "Well, it's pink." WTF??? Pink? I am not a pink kind of person. I honestly thought she was yanking my chain. Well, sadly, she was not. The cake was light pink. Seriously? How do you bring a pink cake over and not think I'll notice? I called and she gave me some lame excuse about how hard it is to match ivory and you have to make it darker because it fades while you are driving, etc. Okay, if you can't match ivory, just tell me - I would have stuck with white! Then, the decorations - we paid over $400 for this cake and my sisters and I could have done a better job of decorating. I was SO disappointed. Not sure if I can post pictures, but if I can, I will. The actual cake underneath all the icing was chunked together and uneven. My mom called and met with Diane. She did finally agree to give her the $50 tinting fee back - since it was tinted pink. But, as far as the extremely poor quality of the cake and the decorating, she gave her nothing. I called a few days later and tried to talk to her. Honestly, I feel like a 50% refund would have been reasonable. I asked her to have Bill (her husband and owner) call me to discuss it. He has never bothered to call. I think 3 months is a reasonable amount of time to wait for restitution. She stated that they did the cake to the best of their ability and that was pretty much it. The pictures in the book that they showed me do not reflect the quality (or lack thereof) of cake decorating skills that I received. Grew up in Shelbyville and the favorite place from when I was small was Linne's Bakery. All my birthday cakes came from there and the cake donuts are my favorite. We came here after we were ignored at Grandma's Pancake House down the street. Although they didn't have a vast selection of donuts, what they did have looked really good. We ended up having the cinnamon roll with frosting and crushed peanuts on top. Can definitely tell it was homemade and fresh. Since we didn't have cash with us, $5 minimum on credit/debit cards, we also bought coffee. We decided to eat the donuts there and the place had a nice homey small town fell to. Very clean and well kept business. Its larger on the inside than it looks. Lots of tables to sit and eat, although it seems most orders are to go. The glass counters are full with all types of pastries and baked goods. The staff is friendly and helpful. I request the pretzel bread when I get a deli sandwich, as it adds a nice texture and flavor. Prices seem pretty spot on for this type business. Parking can be a bit uneasy depending on the time of day. Get there early at about 5am if you want the largest selection right out of the oven. Shelbyville is truly lucky to have an authentic traditional bakery such as this. EVERYTHING is made fresh on site! Most people don't know that the owner is a Certified Master Baker (not many in the Country). Too many good products to list here but once you find your favorites, if you are not there Very early in the morning most likely you will miss out. So...either call in early (5:30-6:30) to reserve or better yet call in earlier in the week to order and reserve and you won't be disappointed. We typically call in Tuesday or Wednesday for a Saturday a.m. pickup. Secret tip...my wife loves the Butterscotch Squares and one of my favorites is the pecan roll so...order the "Pecan Tea Ring" and you will have one of the best coffeecakes you have ever tasted! I am new to the area but I'm happy to say that I've found my bakery! I've been here several times. I've purchased donuts for my family, Valentine treats for my coworkers and an anniversary cake for myself and husband. I've consistently had a wonderful experience each time! The baked goods are fabulous, both taste and appearance. The staff is very friendly and have made me feel very welcome. I've taken several photos and will add those to this review.
