I met an out of town friend there for lunch a few weeks back and I can say that will be the last time I go there. Our service was not great - and felt we needed to keep flagging her down for a refill of pop or for our check. For food - we each got the brussel sprouts salad. Came here with friends to hang out and get dinner before our architecture river cruise! We were excited due to seeing some videos on instagram recommending this spot and showing off its food and drinks. Check in was easy and the restaurant was very clean, friendly and had a nice ambiance. We were seated fairly quickly and our server came and greeted us. He was exceptionally delightful and helpful. We appreciated the quality of his service greatly. For food, we ordered a variety of dishes among the 6 of us. For appetizers we got the Grilled Pita & Hummus, Crispy Shrimp & Sweet Potato wedges. For Entree's we got the Spicy Rigatoni, Lobster Roll, 2 Crispy Brick Chickens, Mushroom Risotto and Seared Scallops. Also ordered sides of bacon and truffle mac & cheese. All 3 of the appetizers were amazingly well done. They tasted delicious and were great in presentation and taste. The entrees we had multiple hits and misses. Our hits per the group were Mushroom Risotto and Seared Scallop. The Crispy Brick Chicken was definitely good but nothing exceptional, would have liked other flavors besides just salt. The Spicy Rigatoni and Lobster Rolls fell flat for our group and we didn't find it that great. We also got some drinks - 2 Strawberry Basil Smashes, Loose Goose and Diablo. We enjoyed the drinks and thought they tasted great. Overall, would say the restaurant itself is quite nice with great ambiance and service. We're used to stronger flavors for our food so could be a reason the food somewhat fell flat for us. We visited at 830p on a Saturday night and the place was virtually empty. We almost decided to forego the whole dinner due to the parking nightmare. $13 + 2 processing fee that you have to download and app to book. And it wasn't explained that there is no valet after 7pm so you have to get out of your car to push the intercom for access. Nonetheless, we were seated by the windows since it was a chilly night. Although many people were outdoors. Either way, excellent views. Our server Gavin was phenomenal, truly the highlight of the evening with his energy, comedy and kindness. We ordered the pomegranate margaritas which were tasty but hardly any alcohol. The cauliflower was ok, not enough of it on the platter compared to the bed of couscous and cashews. Also the sauce was a bit overpowering. The shrimp were very small but flavorful, yet again, too much going on with the sauce after a few bites. We skipped ordering entrees because of the less than impressive apps, but did opt for fries after sitting so long and enjoying each others company. My date had truffle fries which looked good but I didn't taste. I ordered sweet potato fries which were surprisingly loaded with kale and sunflower seeds. Not bad but also not something I could eat a lot of thanks to all the flavors combined. Glad for the experience when intentionally trying something new, but we won't be back. Had a work dinner here Tuesday night with about 40 people. We had the private room off the entrance which was quite nice. Our waiter was attentive, funny and charming. Food was great. Pita (!!!) and hummus was the best I ever had. Ravioli and cheesecake were amazing. The only complaint I had is that it took quite awhile for the food to come out in between courses. The ambience of this place is what makes the 4 star review. I love the Riverside view, and I'm sure in the summers, the Riverside patio is amazing. The food however, was mediocre for the price. The star of the show, aside from the riverside view would be the "pull apart bread" and it's side kick honey butter. The bread was so warm and soothing along with the honey butter they just melt in your mouth. I would eat 2 pounds of this! The bread is lightly salted, which adds a unique taste. For our entrees, we shared the steak frites (medium rare) and the Porter cheeseburger (medium). The steak frites was alright, nothing special for the price. I did not taste any seasoning, which was a tad disappointing and made the steak bland overall. The fries were good, but you must be really terrible for me to give you a 1 star on your fries making skills ;) The Porter Cheeseburger was an average burger, but for the price, I wouldn't order it again. There are a lot of other burgers out there with this price that will knock your socks off. This one did not make the list. I think this place would be a great place for drinks after work, but definitely not the best place for dinner. read more

The fries were good but when you use pecorino as it's not a very good melting cheese it just clumped on-top of the fries in the hot window and dried out and was not good. The interior is pretty swanky and cool and I loved the mix of booths and tables so it felt pretty intimate in there. We opted not to sit outside since it was supposed to rain, but the views of the river would have been great! I ordered their burger with fries and my fiancée ordered a caesar salad and mac & cheese. The portion sizes were larger than expected and the food was fantastic! No complaints from us! I will say it was a little confusing finding it - you have to walk into a big glass building and you'll see signs for Small Cheval outside. We came here for their Restaurant Week lunch menu for $25. It includes three courses and is an excellent deal. I loved their Burrata appetizer and Tomato soup. Their Porter Cheeseburger (cooked perfectly) and Spicy Chicken Sandwich were delicious. We also enjoyed Salmon with broccoli. Service was excellent. Their view of the Chicago river is a fantastic bonus. We will return in summer to sit on their outdoor patio. Please note the restaurant is in the lower level of the lovely grey 150 N. First time patron last week. Mark, the bartender, was great. The man know how to pour a drink. You will be hard pressed to find a more attentive and experienced bartender. Disappointing to hear Four Corners hosted a private event the evening prior for Nancy Pelosi and Lori "Larry" Lightfoot. Lightfoot single-handedly and unilaterally practically destroyed the hospitality and fitness industries in this town during the Wuhan virus. So the group turns around and accommodates her? TLDR; this place is a tourist trap. Only recommend for drinks with the view I'm honestly surprised this place has as good reviews as it does. Our experience here reminded us of an episode of Kitchen Nightmare. The drinks and views were good. We came here to celebrate a birthday. The host who sat us was quite curt and rude. We ordered our appetizers and entrees at the same time, but the entrees arrived before we had even had a chance to start with the appetizers. There was almost no room on the table so the servers started removing our plates that we were using. The food itself had no flavor. There seemed to be a change to the gnocchi dish we ordered, which we ordered because it was vegetarian and didn't list any of the foods that one of our members was allergic to. He ended up having a reaction and couldn't eat his dish. We weren't asked about any dietary restrictions and after our earlier experiences with the service, we didn't want to make a big deal out of it and decided we'd make up for it by going to Small Cheval upstairs. The ambiance of the place feels as though it should be higher end, but we've had better service at Denny's. The drinking water was warm and the way the servers poured the water was inelegant. We paid almost $100 a person when we could have had a better experience elsewhere for less than half the price. I was originally excited to bring my in-laws here or to come here for a date night, but now I can definitely say this is one of those places you should avoid. Porter's was built upon its five forces - its beautiful Riverfront view, modern American essence, intimate dining space, classic svedka mules, and much needed happy hours. I've been here a number of times, and the patio makes a great time for drinks with coworkers. The food is in my opinion very mediocre after eating here a few times. Here are my honest reviews of everything I've tried on the menu: - Porter cheeseburger: 3/5 very filling but pretty average - Fried chicken sandwich: 2/5 this thing is HUGE but super dry - Grilled pita & hummus: 5/5 they give you a lot of hummus, the pita is served fresh and would come for this again - Mac & cheese: 3/5 really underwhelming, it basically tastes like Kraft - Fettuccine: 3/5 one of the few things here that comes in a pretty small portion - Crab roll: 3/5 they are very generous with the meat at least but it's just okay - Filet sliders: 1/5 strong dislike for these - Fish Tacos: 2/5 really plain and not a fan of the tortilla wrap - Steak frites: 2/5 was disappointed - Lemon cheesecake: 4/5 I liked this, pretty solid - Chocolate mousse cake: 1/5 definitely not worth the calories, huge but was sick of it after two bites On the bright side, I give their drinks and atmosphere a 5/5. I came here last night with some buddies to grab dinner/drinks before we headed over to Goose Island Fulton to try their Epic Flight. It's a little hard to find as you need to enter through the main entrance of the office building next to Small Cheval and take the elevator/stairs to the LL. I made the mistake of walking around to Lake St. thinking I could enter there, but that wasn't the case and I had to walk all of the way back. I have actually been to Porter Kitchen & Deck before for a business meeting a years ago and I had a seminar in the LL of the building last year so I am somewhat familiar of Porter. I remembered they had solid food and that was definitely the case last night! Porter Kitchen & Deck is a restaurant with American fare, think upscale bar food. I didn't realize it's owned by the 4C group. I'm not a huge fan of Federales or Benchmark, but I like Highline and Porter. I made a reservation for 5:45pm on a Saturday night. It wasn't crowded when we arrived, but it filled up around 6:30-7pm. The place was very cool as it's sleek, modern, and has somewhat of a business vibe. They have a fantastic deck along the Chicago River! They have a nice long bar with a few TVs and it looked like they had a lounge area with some comfy seats near the entrance. We were seated right in the middle of the room against the window so we had a great view of the river. Our waitress was great last night! She was very attentive and circled back to us constantly seeing if we needed anything. Food came out fairly quick too. So weird thing, but I wanted to give them a shout-out. I love their menu style! I ordered a straight gin martini last night and I don't drink martinis as I highly dislike Vermouth. But their menu describes all of the different types of martinis (straight, dry, extra dry, 007, classic, dirty, & filthy). I actually didn't know there were that many types and it was very educational. My straight gin martini with Aviation Gin was very good! Porter also has a sneaky good whiskey list at some very good prices (Especially for the West Loop Gate/Loop neighborhood)! I was able to get a 2oz pour of Stagg Jr. for $13, which I think is a very good price as that bottle is pretty hard to find in Chicago and it's a 130+ proof bourbon. Other solid prices I found were EHT Single Barrel ($15), Blanton's ($15), Eagle Rare 10 ($13), Weller 107 ($12), and Weller Special Reserve ($11). Those prices are incredible for Chicago! I ordered the Porter Cheeseburger, which was solid! The burger was juicy and the toppings were good. Fries were solid too and came with some garlic aioli. The steak frites looked pretty good too and my buddy enjoyed it! Overall, Porter Kitchen & Tap is more than just a lunch place/happy hour for co-workers and business meeting dinners. They have a very good whiskey list, great cocktails, and solid food! Service was great last night! Plus you can't beat the views of the Chicago River and Porter has a nice atmosphere.
