It was good! Not great. But good! I was expecting juicy brisket, with a really good bark. It was a bit dry and the bark left me wanting more bark. Felt like the pulled pork was overcooked a bit, which made it fairly mushy. Loved the sausage and the snap from the skin. I guess part of this as well is the people taking our order could've cared less if we were there or not... Which always just changes the experience. It's a solid three star for sure! read more

If you're in the mood for BBQ in Richland, Porter's offers something for everyone here. My partner and I visited Porter's for dinner on a Saturday night and the place wasn't busy, but steady with patrons dining in and getting takeout. They offer outdoor seating outside the entrance, which is nice as it's dog-friendly, and they even allowed us to bring our dog with us while we ordered, so we wouldn't have to leave her outside alone. Friendly staff here, too. We ordered a half pound of the brisket and a half pound of the smoked turkey with mac and cheese, coleslaw, baked potato with toppings and some pickles on the side. On the tables were three different BBQ sauces to try: original, spicy and mustard. The spicy sauce wasn't spicy at all, but had some zest to it, which was nice. The mustard one was my favorite. Brisket and turkey were slightly dry, but tasted much better after having it with some BBQ sauce. Of the sides, the coleslaw was best as it wasn't overly sauced with mayo and cabbage was crunchy. I would not recommend coming here. I came . I walked in the door, 4 hours before they closed, all their food was sold out. Except for the brisket and pulled pork. Shortly after that, the pulled pork sold out as well. Not only was most of the food sold out, but the food served was dried out and very bland. Walked in on a Sunday night and the place is dark. There's people eating but the lighting feels like I shouldn't be in here. The two girls working at the counter were super cheerful and ready to take and prepare my order. Everything was served quickly because it was all pre-prepared and sitting in a warmer... except none of my meat was even slightly warm. And the brisket was totally dried out, I'm assuming from sitting in the warmer for too long. The Mac and cheese was flavorful and the jalapeño popper was good. The only item I loved was their sweet tea. I really wanted to like this place because it appears to be a local, non-chain restaurant. Great food, Great service! My little one is a picky eater and the lady behind the counter offered us samples. The brisket is outstanding! My son gobbled it up and he usually doesn't like meat. It's super tender and flavorful. I will be craving the fatty brisket for weeks to come. I had the coleslaw; a perfect balance of tart and sweet, and the cabbage was super fresh. My little had the Gouda Mac and cheese and ate it all. We also tried the smoked turkey and it was tender, juicy and delicious. Yummy yummy barbecue! So I typically don't care to eat American barbecue too much... But since I had seen this place, I figured I'd give it a try! It is walking distance to the hotel if you are staying in Richland. When I came in it was actually quite empty, a few takeout orders. They sell the meat by the weight, so I was kind of limited to how much different meats to try. I'd skip on the sausage I thought that was nothing special. But the brisket was delicious! They even ask if you prefer more fatty or lean brisket. I did also get the mac & cheese, I thought that was pretty good... Very creamy if that's what you enjoy. Service was very nice gentleman was very friendly. They have different barbecue sauces, so you can ask them for a which one you would like and put as much on as you want. I have eaten at Porters at the other Tri City locations and though not the mesquite flavors like the Texas smoked offerings I have enjoyed over my lifetime, pretty good meat for the NW! I ordered a 1/3 pound brisket sandwich and soft drink (Pepsi house) with no sides. That was all I needed to take care of the empty spot. The meat was tender and flavorful however, the bun should have been slathered with meat juices and grilled on the flat top as it was very blah as served. As I was staying at the Homewood Suites next door, I had to try the BBQ. First off, there was almost no patrons inside or out. After sampling the very tasty choices I ordered, I don't understand this as everything tasted amazing! The Johnny Sandwich was awesome! Very tender Brisket, moist Pulled Pork and perfectly cooked Bacon. Y-U-M! The Gouda Mac was very tasty as well. The Cole Slaw was also to my liking. Not too wet and not too sweet, so very good. The only thing that I have to say not really negative, just not to my liking were all 3 of the BBQ sauces. I prefer sauces which are not sweet and all 3 of the offerings were just too sweet for me. All 3 tasted very good, but I like vinegar-based and not sweet mustard-based sauces. My fav of the 3 was the spicy. While not spicy to me, it was the spicy hottest of the 3. Again not a show stopper, just my preference. Last the service was excellent! Very friendly and attentive to the customer. Even offered a taste of a few items as well. Just finished eating a rib for breakfast - tasty even cold. Off doing field work and this was perfect -bbq joint ambiance / order at the counter to select meat and quantity- counter person hands you your tray and you move down to select sides - lots of options, we went with slaw and chili- both excellent. Sorry to have passed on bean options - they also looked good but slaw was a faint hand wave at veg. Beer, ice tea and various sugared beverages. Hard surface floor, chairs and tables. Paper roller towels, squeeze bottles of sauces tagged by heat level. Kind of perfect, kids very welcome. Tried not to order too much but did and enjoying the extra. The only reason I gave this a two star is because Porters BBQ is generally good. My only hope is that this review doesn't crypt away from ownership and that if customers are actually taken seriously, this advice will be heard: A short asian (maybe islander) employee at Porters Real Barbecue in Richland, WA gave me the worse experience. I could complain that the company NO LONGER SERVES THE BANANA PUDDING TO GO OR CHARGES $1 for 3 pickles but I won't. It's your company and if you think that humanly makes sense ; it's your ant hill. No the issue was when I asked the young lady to cut the marble piece and when I commented that it was too fatty (the lip) she commented that, "We don't usually cut the other side" that I was wrong for asking her to cut the side that was already dried out and under temp because the warmers been left open or it's just the end of the shift. With not an ounce of empathy then proceeds to keep barking "" WHAT ELSE CAN I GET FOR YAH?" like I was in an episode of twilight zone. I've been in the industry for years, owned my own shop, consulted for multimillion dollar companies and I can promise you this: It is that attitude, that inch of humanity that will always be the recipe for a companies longevity. Nevermind how crazy the no dessert to go policy is. It's the people and the way she made me feel was powerful enough to make sure I never return to that location. If this gets to you - you'll do the usual and cop it up to the fact that I'm just one customer. Your employees that worked with her will swear she's a saint and life will go on. But that fact. That very simple fact will always, always be true. I left the richland location and went to kennewick location to verify these changes. What happened to this place? Went to the Porter's in Pasco about 3-4 years ago and it was great! We were at the Richland location today and it was not great. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We should have taken the hint when the place was empty during lunch hours and walked away.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We stayed and paid $38 for 1/3 lb each of pork and brisket (the smallest they offer), 2 small sides and 2 pops. The meat was meh. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant itself has seen better days. As many folks in the surrounding area did, I discovered this place after it was seen on Diners, drive-ins and dives. I guess this would count as a dive, but overall that is not the vibe it gives off- I would say it gives off a rather low-key, relaxed and meat centric vibe! By the end of the evening, this place had darn near achieved Proclaimers status - remember them, the relatively short-lived late 80s Scottish band with the hit single "500 miles"? They may have had time traveling abilities, tasted the brisket here and produced the familiar upbeat love ballad as a result. What's up McFly! Back to the meat! It's located just down the street from Kadlec hospital in what appears to be a really cool couple blocks of shops and eateries. They are open until 7 PM or when they run out of food, which I imagine is relative often. As stated, the place is very meat centric and they have a lot of good options. We ended up trying just about one of everything, and nothing left us wanting! The dinosaur rib, a gigantic beef rib, was one of the best I've ever tasted. Aptly named, the thing was huge. One rib with the accompanying meat weighed almost 2 pounds, and fed a lot of us! It was tender enough that if you spoke sternly to it, I bet it would fall off the bone! The St. Louis style pork ribs were also quite tasty. Really good flavor and very tender. The beef brisket here came in lean or marbled... Like there's really a choice! Would you like this Porsche or a Kia? Seriously though, get the marbled - it was the best brisket we've ever tasted! Super tender, moist, just plain wonderful! The smoked turkey was crazy good as well- get extra butter/drippings - it's amazing! We also had some of their house made Dillpickle chips as well as the Gouda mac & cheese. Both were Incredible, and were also probably the low point of the entire meal. By the end of the night, most of us have eaten at three times as much as we wanted to and were trying to figure out how we could stuff more of this into our faces. The only ones that have come close were in a small town in Iowa (Tanks in Rudd) and it's unfortunately a bit of a jaunt from Washington state. The brisket and the dinosaur rib were Proclaimer dishes that I will absolutely drive back to the tri cities just to get and bring home. There is zero reason you wouldn't try this place. You may think- "Guy Fieri is all hype and that's why you went there." To which I say, "It's okay that you're wrong, but I'm gonna need you to stop thinking and go try the brisket here!" I think there may be quality differences between locations. I've had Porter's in Kennewick and Richland. When I travel for work I usually stay at a hotel close to where there are a variety of dining options until I find an establishment is consistent and I plan on eating there when I'm in town. I've stayed at the hotel next door to Porter's in Richland the last couple of times I was in town, and honestly I was a little disappointed. There was something off with the flavor of everything I ordered. I may try the Kennewick location to see if it's like what I remember since it's been a few years since I've eaten in Kennewick. read more

After seeing the high reviews I decided to try it, when I walked in I immediately saw a list of items that they were out of. It was just before 6pm on a Wednesday. They only had brisket and pulled pork and several sides were also out. I decided to stay and get the 2 only meats they had and the Mac and cheese. The brisket was a little over cooked and dry, the pulled pork was ok, I had to drown both in sauce. The Mac and cheese was really soupy and didn't have the gouda flavor I had hoped. The food here is absolutely fantastic! My daughter and I stopped here specifically because they were featured on Diners, Drive In's and Dives. The food looked amazing. We drove over 300 miles one way on other business and felt it was the perfect opportunity. The food was every bit as delicious as we had hoped. The price of this food is ridiculously expensive. I thought I was being punked! No kidding. We ordered two ribs first. She said that came to 64 dollars. Wait what?! Yup, 64 dollars for two ribs. Not two racks but two ribs. We decided to share a rib. A rib. 34 dollars. With the sides our lunch came to 63 dollars and we had to share. I was totally disgusted at the nerve of this place to charge this INSANE amount for one meal to share. The food was incredible. However unless you have deep pockets I cannot suggest eating here.
