Why couldn't I get the senior discount at this location? I get it at others. My brother got it here last week. What's going on?

Orders are ALWAYS WRONG, items are ALWAYS MISSING. Plus, they ADD FRAUDULENT TIPS to orders, claiming "the computer did it" - the last three times this happened, but the last time, it was way overboard- They gave me my total but tagged on 7 or 8 bucks without telling me. That's nothing but fraud. I dismissed it the first couple times but I'm done with this place now- not worth it. read more

Excellent service. I did an online order and went through the drive thru. It didn't take long to wait, however they offered me a free piece of cake to make up for the wait. I kindly declined as I don't like sweets, but it was really generous of them! The burger was well done, just the way I like it. Cheese fries always good. The Maxwell Street Polish was huge, no complaints here. However, the grilled onions felt a little overcooked to my taste. Overall, very good food as always. read more

We dined in on a Saturday night, didn't want to do the drive-thru line. Busy, but it made for great peoplewatching. Italian beef ($5.10, sweet or hot peppers $0.50) - 4.5 stars. Had more meat than the wimpy beef at the St. Charles location. The sweet peppers added a salty taste that the meat lacked. Less greasy beef than the Northlake Portillo's. We've been coming here since they opened and we loved this place!! Idk what happened but the food quality has been horrendous. We do fast food Friday and we would always choose Portillos but we just stopped going here because it has been that bad. Decided to give them another try cuz we missed it and was that a bad idea. Sheesh. We figured that the fries they served had to be sitting there for at least 3 hours that's how terrible they were. And the beef was old and the meat had a weird smell to it and it was super dry. It was so bad I had to write this review cuz they outta be ashamed to serve what they gave me. Portillo's has been a "go-to" in my family for over 50 years. Today, I pulled up to the Elgin location and for the first time ever in history, there were no cars in the drive-through. The grilled chicken Caesar salad was awful. Instead of a grilled piece of REAL chicken, the slab on the salad seemed like chicken meat that was chopped, pressed, overly seasoned and smashed into a form resembling a chicken breast. Very mushy and definitely not real, fresh chicken. Threw it away. The hot dog was also inedible. Rubbery, tasteless and definitely not up to the standards Dick Portillo worked his life to achieve. I absolutely love Portillos, and this location is no exception. This is of course one of the newer locations, and the place is always incredibly busy at lunch and peak dinner hours. That being said the driver through and counter service is very efficient. You will not have to wait that long to order or get your food, so even if the line looks long, don't give up. I pretty much love everything at Portillo's to eat, but some of my favorites are the jumbo hot dog (Chicago style of course), Italian Beef dipped, burgers, chopped salad, fries, onion rings, etc. I absolutely love their chocolate cake shakes and strawberry short cake- so if you want dessert definitely give those a try. Several people have commented on here about incorrect orders- I've never had that happen to me- and I've even gone in large groups. So, while that might be accurate for some, it is not accurate for me. I'd definitely give this place a try- especially since it has now been open long enough to get some of the kinks out. read more

This is a somewhat newer Portillo's, due to the pandemic we have not been inside for about a year. They are doing a stellar job with cleaning and distancing, we felt completely comfortable inside. From the greeter to the order taker everyone thanked us for coming in and stated but much they appreciated seeing us. It was really nice. The food ...well its Portillo's, nothing has changed, it was very good, and even better eating there. We both got burgers, they really have one of the more underrated burgers around. While the Beefs are some of the best and the dogs and polishes are great, I love their burgers. The char flavor with the perfect blend of condiments all mixed together forms a perfect sauce. The large pickles give some acid and crunch, and the lettuce has some substance not just limp soft green stuff. The double is double the fun, but these days I stick to the single. The new fish sandwich did cause me to give it a thought, it looked awful good, but I came to get a burger and wasn't going to let some fancy looking fish sandwich to change my mind. My wife is not a normal Portillo'sburger orderer and she enjoyed it as well. Glad to know something stayed the same. read more

Portillos used to be a place you can brag about. But lately, my orders have really fallen short. Tonight I ordered an Italian Beef with Mozzarella cheese and usually it's overflowing with beef. Finally went to the new location closest to our house. We've always been Portillo's fans, and were excited to get one so close by. However, we waited to let some of the novelty wear off first because it can tend to get a little crazy with the amounts of people. We got our order quickly, everything was correct (and we had 6 people, so it was a big order) and everything was fresh & tasty. During our dine-in, I felt bad for the girl calling the order numbers. She said #10 and #15 at least twenty times each. I think they should consider a "wall of shame" to go alongside their celebrity photos. But on this wall would be the people that don't pick up their order after the number is called 3 times. The first ones on the wall would be those with orders #10 and #15 because seriously --- the poor girl probably lost her voice by the end of her shift. read more

Ordering a sandwich is similar to ordering a pizza. They charge per topping. The sign said Maxwell St. Polish with mustard and grilled onions. I ordered one with ketchup and grilled onions. Had to pay 50 cents more. I should have ordered without mustard and added my own ketchup. I guess they will do anything to nichol and dime you. read more

Gotta love Portillos! This location is the typical Portillo's on one side with The Salad Bowl on the other. I would say this location is right on par with many others, the food quality is great, the customer service is good, and it takes a long time to get your food. I suppose that's because it's pretty busy most of the time, but still, I wish they could speed it up a little. Interesting idea...Monday night is buy a full slab rib dinner, get a half slab for free. I do not eat ribs, but my husband swears by Portillo's ribs. We just recently found out about this special; he had three meals at a half slab each, so we liked this promo. My local Portillo's is always slammed with customers, but never fails to disappoint on flavor or expectations, food is always fresh, fast and delicious. My only reservation here is on the price of some items, my go to meal is the double bacon cheeseburger ($9.35!!!) That doesn't include a drink ($2.50-4.50) or any side ($3-5) so when it's all said and done, my fast food lunch or dinner ends up costing somewhere between $13-15.50. High prices aside, there's nothing quite like their burgers in the area. read more

I've had bad experiences at this Portillo's in the past, but the ratio of good service outnumbered the bad ... until this evening... Pretty insulting being accused of not paying for my food at the drive thru. I pay for my order at the first window. Pull up to the second window and was denied my food because he was told I had not paid. Mind you not one minute had passed from window one to window two... The cashier walked to window two and I had to remind him I paid with a $10 dollar bill and he gave me $2 dollars and change. His follow up question was, 'Did you pay with a card?'. Really dude?! Disappointed in Management! My husband and I decided to eat at Portillo's in South Elgin before I started a diet. We've always enjoyed eating here and taking family from out of town to eat here too! (This is gross so prepare yourself) As my husband bit into his burger, a large, long, thick, black hair came out with his bite. We were mortified, he spit it out immediately and we both stopped eating. We packed up our deserts to take home; to maybe eat later. I went up and asked to have a manager meet us at our table to let them know what we just experienced. Five minutes later, no Manager. So I took up the burger with the disgusting hair and asked again for a manager. Apparently there was a problem at the drive through that took up two Manager's time, so I waited. Finally a Manager arrived and I explained what had happened. He said, and I quote "I'm sorry, it happens occasionally, you can see they have their hair pulled back. Can I offer you free desert?" Oh My-Lanta! ‍ I was not impressed with that customer service! I told him no thank you, we already purchased deserts, and if hair in food happens "occasionally" shouldn't the staff preparing food be required to wear hair nets. He only apologized again. A very busy fast-food joint like this should take PRIDE and prepare food in a safe and healthy way for all it's patrons. People should NEVER have to experience this "occasionally." I can honestly say I wont be back, this Manager was not looking for a solution to this concern, only to acknowledge it and move on. read more

There food is great for fast food. I just got a beef and thought they gave me hotdog because the wrapped item was so small. Nope, it was a beef sandwich. Portillo said in a news clip he would never change the size of his sandwich. Expect that to change now that he has sold it. 2 stars for the portion size. Sorry I took a bite out of the sandwich so I put a ketchup container next to it to help show the size. At least they have not changed the size of their burgers......yet! read more

Dont know if the same type of sausage or beef is being substituted for a lesser type food product. Called the manager to inform them of this and the response was "I will check into this" and hung up, never taking any type of information as to resolve. Dont call that any type of customer service, but anyway, it is what it is. Guess my choice of places to eat in South Elgin are diminished by one. If I have a choice for lunch, Italian beef and sausage combo is always my first choice. And how can you wrong with Portillo's a Chicago iconic sandwich place....well apparently you can. Simply put, I've had better, in fact i can name a bunch of places that would be better. This location in particular was not good. The beef wasn't tender or thin cut, the sausage was over cooked, and I've seen more meat on a quarter pounder than I saw in that sandwich. Then you put some undercooked fries with it and whalaa, I'll go someplace else next time. Any least the chocolate malt was good it would have been a 2 rating.
