If I could give this place zero stars, I absolutely would. This was one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had, and what happened could have had serious consequences. I ordered an Original Pizza Melt for my son and made it very clear that I wanted only sauce, cheese, and bread. I specifically told the employee that I did not want any meat or other toppings because my son has food allergies. This wasn't just a preference--it was for his safety. Despite giving clear instructions, they completely ignored my order and loaded the sandwich with ingredients I specifically asked them not to include. When I got home and opened the sandwich, I couldn't believe what I saw. It was completely wrong. At that point, the food was unusable because my son is allergic to several of the ingredients they put on it. A mistake involving food allergies is not something to take lightly. Restaurants have a responsibility to pay attention when customers make allergy-related requests, and this location completely failed to do so. I called the store expecting them to make things right. I wasn't asking for anything unreasonable--I simply wanted a refund because the mistake was entirely theirs. Instead, I spoke with an employee named Mai, and she was unbelievably rude from the beginning of the conversation. She immediately refused to refund my money, didn't apologize, didn't seem concerned that the order involved a child with food allergies, and offered no solution whatsoever. I even explained multiple times that my son could not eat the sandwich because of the ingredients they added, but she showed absolutely no empathy or concern. Instead of taking responsibility, she told me I would have to contact corporate if I wanted to file a complaint. When I expressed how ridiculous that was for something that was clearly the restaurant's mistake, she basically told me, "Tough luck." I have never been treated with such disrespect by a business. Good customer service means owning up to mistakes and fixing them--not dismissing customers and acting like their concerns don't matter. What makes this experience even worse is that the issue involved food allergies. If a restaurant can't follow simple instructions that are clearly given, it puts customers at risk. That's unacceptable. A simple apology, a refund, or even a replacement would have gone a long way, but instead I was met with indifference and hostility. I will never be returning to this location, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone--especially if you or a family member has food allergies or dietary restrictions. If they can't be trusted to prepare an order correctly or handle a legitimate complaint professionally, they don't deserve your business. I usually don't write reviews but I hope this one will get attention. I came here 10/18 around 4 this afternoon and I ordered three sandwiches which were all very good, i however had an issue with one of their employees, I didn't get his name but he had long hair with braids and glasses. I don't know if he was having a bad day which I can understand having a bad day but he was very rude and aggressive towards me. I don't come to potbelly often so I will admit I sometimes struggle ordering since I customize my own sandwiches but he raised his voice at me when asking me what kinda sandwich I wanted. I work In customer service myself so I can understand being flustered with customers especially when they are rude but I was the opposite. and I personally think this man shouldnt be working with customers if he can't control his attitude. If a manager or owner sees this will I hope they'll talk to him. I personally don't feel comfortable coming to this location alone after what happened, I will have to go with my father or my boyfriend whenever we want potbelly since as a person, I felt like I was disrespected for no reason and I always have positive experiences coming here. This has been my go to place for lunch for several years. Food is always decent but the last two times I've noticed the restaurant is not very clean. I mentioned today that the grease/dust on the large oven hood was heavy in dust. Food is prepped under the hood. I looked around and noticed a heavy layer of dust/grease on the Pot Belly sign near the side door. My sun shade actually had several long strands of human hair embedded in it. I brought it up to a staff member and he shrugged his shoulder and said it was ok. Lastly, the soda machine tubes need cleaning. I poured some water in a cup and out popped black debris. Our team-building lunch order today was over $115 including tip. We got 13 sandwiches and soup for a group. On the faxed order form I specifically wrote "All sandwiches PLAIN with everything on the side please." When I called to give the store the credit card information, I repeated that we needed ALL sandwiches plain as we have people in the office who have allergies to some of the standard condiments. Apparently, they chose to completely ignore that specific request because ALL sandwiches came with lettuce and tomato on them. The order also arrived without oyster crackers for the soup and over 25 minutes late. So, like a good consumer, I called and spoke with the manager (Maddie). I explained the situation and she put me on hold. When she came back she said, "I apologize for that." I said, "No problem" thinking that she was apologizing for placing me on hold...so I was shocked when she replied, "Ok then, have a nice day" and hung up on me. Guess which local business will NEVER get our $115+ lunch order business again. With ridiculously RUDE managers like Maddie, I am surprised that this Potbelly chain is still in business. I have always been an avid supporter of Potbelly's, and would always chose them over other sandwich shops. That being said, this location should be avoided (South Elgin, IL). The last 3 online orders, prefaced by an in store order, were all incorrect. Delivery lacking a drink, sandwich missing ingredients, wrong bread, wrong size, missing chips, etc. After the second time I called to have the sandwich remade, and had to go pick it up. I gave a time for pick-up and the sandwich was not ready, and after getting an attitude regarding the remake from the woman who did it, it was still wrong when I got back to the office. When delivery is wrong and you need to go pick it up anyway, there is no point in using it. And as there is an order minimum, our office won't be ordering anymore as I refuse to waste the money. read more

Manger is very argumentative and defensive when asking about a refund for what you order when simply ringing in sandwich then voiding it. When we have a dept meeting in our office, I always rely on Potbelly for great lunch catering. I always call to thank them after the lunch delivery because all the food is delivered on time and everything is as ordered. We have some people in our dept who are always picky, but never any complaints when we order from Potbelly.
