Been here 4 times. Food is always amazing. The problem lies with the horrible workers. You can't hire anybody off the street for Portillo's. You don't get the same service as you do in Chicago. Everything from store cleanliness to accurate order fulfillment is botched on a personal 100 percent basis. Called and complained, didn't want or expect anything of it, just wanted better service on future visits. Was promised a gift card, didn't want it, but was promised it anyways. Never got it. Now I'm pissed on a moral basis. Nobody cares at this location. Will I be back? Yes, Out of necessity for my favorite food. I recommend avoiding the drive thru at all costs and checking your order once handed over. Statistically speaking, it will be wrong. Double check your takeout order before you leave!!! We've been there maybe 5-7 times (inside and drive-thru) and every time we are missing something. The management is always good about rectifying the situation, but it's annoying. This last experience prompted me to write this review. I was the only person in the drive up so I didn't think to check my order before I left the parking lot. Get all the way home and we are missing my meal and my child's meal. Called first and then drove back to get the missing items. Get home and my child's nudie hotdog turned out to be a polish hotdog. Everything was so wrong about my experience I just had to laugh. Just awesome. Looks like there are some chain or Chicago haters on the reviews. You know, cause its a big city and chains suck or something yada yada. Burgers are great, dogs and beef also. It is a bit more expensive but it's worth it to me, been to both up here and great, I've noticed longer lines the more people that find it so the wait sucks now, especially the drive through! They still seem a little disorganized, like trying to rush orders, compared to the Chicago chains so hopefully that will get better with time and training. read more

Absolutely terrible experience. Called for a to go order. Was put on hold, then no one answered so I drove to the place, as I planned to do. They picked up the phone 27 minutes later as I was walking in. We ordered 1 burger, 1 pasta and 2 cake shakes. The lady said she'd bring it out to me, and we sat at the closest table to the to go counter. At the table next to me, one of the six young people had no food. The same lady came out and delivered him free food and apologized for the mess up. Another guy was standing around yelling he'd been waiting for an hour. At 45 minutes, I finally went to the lady at the counter who proceeded to tell me they called my name (they didn't) and it wasn't her fault. I asked where the 2 cake shakes were when she handed me a bag, and she said, oh. I asked for the manager, she called on the wall radio for one, we waited 5 more minutes, and then left. In the entire time we saw no one who looked like they were in charge. There were plenty of employees, but no direction. Eight employees were hanging around the garbage in a circle. We got home and there was no cake in the shake. I sent a feedback directly to the company, with the chosen request of a follow up within 24-48 hours and three days later I received an email suggesting I should use their app. I responded to the email, and have heard nothing more. I grew up 10 Minutes from a Portillos and I was very excited for this location to open up. I understand training staff and growing pains but WOW - they need to get their act together. We waited 30 minutes for our food, they forget an item in our order, my husband waited 20 Minutes for a beer. While I can completely understand when a place is super busy, I cannot understand when your employees look disinterested and do not even acknowledge the fact that no one is being served. It was completely ridiculous. I have never seen a group of workers work at a more slower pace. I gave you guys a couple months to get your act together and you are still failing. read more

We placed an order online to pick up in the drive-thru to make the process move faster, and showed 13 minutes after we placed the order as it had recommended online... We ended up waiting 20 min in the drive-thru lane, plus over 20 min at the window! 40 minutes waiting for a prepared online order is pretty bad. Worst experience ever. We went there on March 22nd. The line was long, but we expected that. We sat down at our table (had to clear it ourselves) and realized our order was not correct. We went back to the line and was given another sandwich. We sat down and realized our order was still not correct. Went back and received our 2nd attempt at a correct order. After sitting down we realized that it was still not correct. Unbelievable, we just gave up. Excellent! The drive thru was long, but the service was quick and the cashiers were so friendly! The food was delicious and although it was my first time, my boyfriend is a local and says it's always good and consistent. The only reason I'm docking a star is because our order was incorrect. My boyfriend ordered a chocolate cake shake and I ordered a chocolate malt, but we received 2 cake shakes instead. Small mistake, not a big deal, and it was still delicious but really just wanted a malt. Love this place though, will return. read more

Disappointing first visit to Portillos in Maple Grove. My order sat on the counter for 5 min waiting on just a single fruit cup. By the time we sat down, half the bread on my big beef sandwich was completely soggy and my tamale was dripping with moisture and a soggy sticky mess. I needed several napkins to dry my hands off just from unwrapping it. The flavors were good, but the execution was bad. If this is the norm, I won't be back. read more

I am from Chicago and have always liked Portillo's, but the Maple Grove location does not come close to any of those I have been to in Chicago. The staff spends more time talking to each other rather than take your order. Service is slow, and when I was there last, we couldn't find a clean table. I finally had to take out a Clorox wipe from my purse and clean a table. The food was lukewarm, but tasted ok. I agree with a reviewer's comment that this will go the way of Krispy Kreme if the don't get their act together. read more

Friday night about 8:30 pm. Not too busy and they had more than enough employees on hand. Mind you I have been here twice already and enjoyed my Italian Beef. I also learned that you really want to eat it right away or the bread is so soggy you can't stand to eat it. Because I wanted to not have sandwiches assembled I went inside to ensure order would be correct. Had 3 girls wait on me at same time as they try to figure out how to do a simple order - all friendly but only 1 understood that they should all be on the side. 2 Italian beef with everything, 1 jumbo hotdog with everything and an éclair. Simple right!! I explained that because I had to travel I did not want the meat, or toppings on the buns as it would be a pile of mush by the time I got to my destination. I specifically asked multiple times for the meat and toping to all be on the side so I could assemble when I got home -wanted to ensure that they did not assemble them. Mind you I specified this 3+ times. Note - specified everything on it, and put cheese, peppers, etc. on the side. Confirmed they understood, completed and paid for the order and went to pickup line. Once order was ready, apparently they didn't understand. Both Italian Beefs were assembled as normal, not in separate containers. I pointed this out and with some protest women on blue apron who appeared to be a manager stated that next time to order a cup of beef and a bun, then she agreed to remake them in separate containers. After about 10 min she returned with only 1 Italian beef so she had to go and get another one. when she returned the 2nd time, I noticed there were not enough containers so I asked if all the toppings were there. She then stated that they were only beef and a bun for 2 sandwiches, that I didn't pay for the toppings. Their menu clearly shows the Italian Beef with all the toppings, and I specified that I wanted everything on it, all the toppings in separate containers. All she would say is that I only paid for the beef and bread, not the toppings. After expressing again that I specified everything on them when I orders, she again only said I only paid for the beef an buns. Clearly their menu is misleading at best, there employees are not properly trained, and their customer service is severely lacking in that the attitude of the woman in the blue apron was not of customer service, but rather, this is your order, you can leave. The error was clearly on the part of the order taker, those who trained the order takers and the management. Although I enjoyed the food, it is not likely that I will go back anytime soon, if ever as her attitude made me feel that she was calling me a lier. And if they don't improve their customer service, or change their prices on their menu to include the toppings shown in the picture I believe a lot of people will be dissatisfy with the all-a-cart pricing. How is it the hot dog came with everything, but the other sandwiches do not? That is nuts. Any other fast food or sit down restaurant would have resolved this issue to the satisfaction of the customer. We've had delivery from this new Portillo's twice in the last month. The first was a party for over 20 people with a sampling of Italian beef & sausage, ribs and some sides. It was delivered on time and the food was roundly praised by the guests at the party. Last Friday I ordered a meal to be delivered for my mother and me. This store's current delivery partner (Door Dash) completely dropped the ball. Their driver lied about having delivered it and Door Dash pretty much told me it was not their problem because their system showed the food had been delivered. I called Portillo's after several fruitless attempts to get Door Dash to resolve the problem. The lovely young lady who answered the phone found the allegedly delivered order in their warming area over an hour after Door Dash claimed it had been delivered. She wanted to consult with her manager and took my number. Less than 5 minutes later on what I would assume was a busy Friday night I got a call back from her. The meal would be remade & comped with one of their chocolate cakes thrown in as an extra apology (excellent cake by the way). They ordered a new driver, called when he picked it up AND doubled my mom's rib order from one to two racks (one of which is now sitting in the freezer for a later meal), My Italian sausage and pasta was more than enough for one meal and very good as well. Ok this was my second visit since they opened. I'll start with the parking lot. This is the worst layout ever. I swear people go to Costco first to practice fighting over spots. During my first visit there was a huge line, I ordered 2 hot beef sandwiches with gravy and a small spaghetti with a meatball. I waited approximately 30 minutes for my food. Get home and there's no meatball. Roll forward one month and I decide to go back in. This time it's not crowded at all. I order the same thing with gravy on the side. I wait 20 minutes for the food. Outside I go and halfway to Costco, I wonder if everything is in the order. Get to Costco and I check and there is no gravy. So I go back fight for parking again, get inside and get my gravy. There's no "sorry for the inconvenience" nothing. While their food is great, I'm going to have to think twice about going again. Just standing there waiting on the food you start to realize just how inefficient this place is. Likely I'll wait a few weeks and give it one more try but right now not impressed with the people and the attitudes read more

Stopped in to the new Maple Grove location. I went through the drive-thru and they had two lanes, which ends up merging to one lane. There were roughly five employees outside taking your order and payment. They put a sticker on your car so the employees know what order number you have. I went at 8pm and was only in line for about 8 minutes. We ordered a variety of things to try. The ribs were very delicious and we will buy them again. They are decently priced at $17.50 which is right about where it should be. Beware that once this initial few weeks end, there will be a 10-15 minute wait for them to cook them fresh, but they are worth the wait. The chili dog and hot dog were very tasty as well. The Greek salad was delicious but just a little too pricey for us to buy again for $7.79. The onion rings were good as well, but you don't get many for the $2.39 price you pay. Same as the fries. tasty but a little overpriced for the amount you get in our opinion. The vanilla shake we had was very good as well. My wife and I were pleasantly surprised at how smoothly things went, especially just opening. We will definitely go back. read more

This is not the FIRST time portillos has messed my orders up. I should have learned my lesson and never went back. The last straw for me was in April I went through the drive thru before heading 45 minutes north. We ordered, was asked if we wanted cheese on sandwich, and had a couple of special requests...such as dressing on the side of salad instead of on because of the drive we had. So into our drive it was discovered that there was no cheese on sandwich and they asked us if we wanted it. No straws for our drinks, black things floating in our drinks, and no dressing at all for our salad and our one slice of cake dumped upside down. After waiting for 30 minutes in the drive through line no way was I going to go back. I thought I would call instead and just let them know I was unhappy. That it makes it hard to have a drink with no straw and then to take lid off and things were floating in drinks was plain nasty. So after EIGHT attempts to get through, I finally get through and get hung up on before speaking to a manager. TWO more attempts I get Paula. she apologizes and says she is sending a gift card out. a couple seeks go by and I call again. this time speaking with James (also a manager). He literally is like oh I get it...I am so sorry. I am going to send you out a gift card for $65. I was like ok. I would give them a shot again and I'll just make sure it is ALL correct before I pull away. Again, weeks go by and nothing. I call again. He tells me AGAIN he will check on that and get it right out. Finally in June, I am so mad I call corporate. Because at this point it is just ridiculous. They told me they sent something out for months and it never came. Anyway, corporate tells me no way will they send out a card for $65 when it was one slice of missing cheese, no dressing, and drinks had stuff in them. I said, plus the other TWO times besides this they have messed up order. Nice try corporate lady your manager already told me he would do it. So she calls store...GUESS WHAT! The store has no record of it. Oh funny. funny how that works. well I would call james. I have talked with him TWICE. She says it doesn't matter there is no record. So i call the store to talk to james and conveniently he isn't in. So I tell corporate I will take her boss. She tells me no one is there. I said oh, do you own Portillos? she laughs and says no. I say good...then there is someone above you. I'll have that person call me. I finally get someone above her a day or two later. I am then told that no way would they send that card out. I say great...I am done. Go ahead and refund my card or send the $65 card that was promised. She says she can't do either. She can only give me a $50 card. I absolutely think this display of customer service is disgusting. CHECK YOUR ORDERS....cause they won't help you later. read more

I took my family to the newly opened Portillo's in Maple Grove, and all I can say is I hope they improve with time. The Order/Sit/Wait/Pickup format is nothing bu chaos, and the kitchen wasn't doing much better. We were there at 4:30 pm, with no line to order, and it was still chaos. Lots of pairs sitting at the few 4 person tables so hard to find a place for 3 to sit without rearranging their dining room. My daughter ordered their Portobello sandwich with no idea what was in it, and was pleased with her selection. My son and I ordered Pasta. That was a mistake. Apparently pasta is too far from their core operation to be good. It was precooked noodles reconstituted and served. I would never do that again. The chaos extended to the pickup area where we were shorted bread to go with the pasta, but got a meatball sandwich we didn't order. When I took it back to the counter the guy looked sheepish and said "Oh, yeah, I know where that was supposed to go." I will return after they have had a chance to work out some of the operational kinks, but I will stick to sandwiches on my next visit. read more
